Worried about Sci-Fi....

she saw a mosquito in the restaurant.....oh the horror.

Now THAT's an authentic drive-in! :lmao:

Time for PIC

Edit: After thinking about it, that probably wasn't a real mosquito after all but the world's smallest audioanimatronic. :lmao:

:cool1:Just go and enjoy and don't sweat the small stuff. You will be on vacation at WDW...Wooo Hoooo. Enjoy!

We love Sc-Fi

Go and have a great time. Don't let someone else's negative opinion sway you.

Good:
DS likes it, makes him happy.
Feels like a drive-in movie, sit in cars.
Old SciFi movie clips, cartoons, and commercials.
Air Conditioned (very cool in there)
Never waited to be seated. Lots of seating.
Flavored sodas (milkshakes are better at 50s Prime Time)
Basic food is good - burger, fries, reuben, onion rings

Bad:
It's basic food... nothing fancy
Didn't like the ribs, yuck.
Might have other diners in your car if a small party
The table surface in the cars (the dashboard) is small and angled down; so if you spill something, it might end up in your lap!

Sci Fi Diner is one of the best places to eat in Hollywood Studios... it's a fun theme -- dine in cars and watch funny old movie clips. We also like 50s Prime Time -- it's home cookin kind of fill your belly food...and the milkshakes are VERY good. I don't expect fine dining at either place, but it's a lot better than counter service options. Hollywood Brown Derby is our place for great food.

I think many people complain because of the high prices. Some kind of discount always helps. That's why we like the dining plan... overall, averaging everything, the deluxe dining plan saves us 38%. So, in the end, if I'm really only paying 62% of those high prices.... I don't get upset if the food isn't perfect.

I wouldn't let one person's experience, bad or good, change my dining plans. They could have just gotten unlucky.

I've eaten at Sci-Fi twice. One time was very good and the other was decent. It was never bad. It really isn't my favorite place to eat and both times it was kind of a last minute decision. To be honest I rarely eat at any TS in DHS because the World Showcase is just a short walk away. I usually finish at DHS and head to Epcot before dinner.

Went last December and really liked it. We went for lunch I had the angus burger, the only burger I ate the entire trip BTW, and it was DELISH. My wife got the chicken sandwich she said it was good but tried my burger and said she wished she would have gotten that. I paired it up with a real cherry coke and a chocolate shake for dessert. YUM!
Sci-Fi was fun, maybe not the biggest bang for your buck on the DDP but we really enjoyed it.

The food definitely is not great!! Three times now and have not been impressed any time. But, it is a Disney staple and you HAVE to eat there at least once! The atmospher makes up for the food and it really isn't THAT bad!! I would say go and see for yourself if you like it or not.

GO! Enjoy! We went for the first time in January, and Loved it. We ordered basic stuff-Great burgers (better than your average Disney burger), some of the best onion rings I've ever had (don't remember thinking they were terribly greasy, but aren't onion rings supposed to be a little greasy? ;)) and yummy shakes. The kids (and us) loved the atmosphere and we will definitely go back.

It's the only restaurant we hit every trip. I'm willing to shell out almost $20 for a tofu lunch so it had better be good.

Try it. It's fun.

:)

This was probably the worst food I had on my last 10 day trip. However, I would still go back. lol The atmosphere is awesome and just too fun for words. We ordered dinner items, and from what I read that may be the problem. Next time we'll stick to burgers and fries and go at lunch instead of dinner.

If I had to choose between this and 50s though...hands down I'd pick 50s. Our server seriously had me LMBO, and my husband got put in the corner for making spitballs. You have to do something to get in trouble to make it fun! I put my veggies on my hubby's plate and he told on me. You get the idea.

I love the atmosphere and the food is good if you stick with the burgers and onion rings and of course the milkshakes. You won't be disappointed to at least try it once.It is the only place that I have went to when at DHS and is a must do each trip gotta love the dining cars and movie clips(makes me feel young again lol)Go and have a great time!

Sci Fi is Ok at best....the food is OK but you cant get soda there that is not flat and its everyime.....Hollywood is not the best place for food...its not MK..

We ate there last spring, and we LOVED it. Our cheeseburgers were perfectly adequate - and so were the onion rings. Good, decent food. We'll go back again - not because of the food (which wasn't bad) but because my DH and I were able to have a conversation in the "back seat" while the kiddos watched the silly movie clips in the front seat! Go and have a great time!

For me the atmosphere is cute, but not nearly cool enough to make up for the food.

Ok atmosphere + ehhhh food = not worth going back.

Just my opinion of course - YMMV

so we have an ADR there for our upcoming trip....went once a few years back and liked it. Just talked with my friend who came back and said my one back suggestion was Sci Fi...worst food ever...really greasy!!! Ugh...did I make a mistake?:confused3

One of the problems with Disney is that their consistency is the worst. I mean literally, you can go to the same restaurant twice in 1 week and the 1st time it will be good and the very next time it will be horrible.

Personally I no longer expect great meals at any disney park restaurant.

Scifi will be simply ok. we generally do lunch and get the burgers and shakes. we probably love the atmospher much more than the food.

We didn't find it any good with the age of our children, my wife and I had to sit separately in the 'car' to supervise the children and didn't get to really talk at all during the meal. Food was ok, love the concept. Will maybe go back when kids are older......my view -don't bother with young children.

Been twice, enjoyed it both times.. Ive had a chicken dish, and the ribs.. Both were excellent but ribs were so tender I could pick the meat off with a fork! Love the ambiance..Very cool and relaxing.. I say try it! DH just said the reuben was very good!

I will agree that the food can be hit or miss but we always go here anyway. The kids love sitting in the cars and watching the "movies". We have learned though to stick with burgers/sandwiches.
