Worried about my laptop

Hey there

I'm off to Florida very shortly (5 days! Eek!) and I want to take my laptop in my hand luggage. I'm just worried about things being wiped from it if it goes through the airport scanners Will they ask me to take it out of my hand luggage?

nothing will be erased from your laptop, don't worry..

when you get to security, you will have to take your laptop our of your carry on bag and put it into a bin to go through the scanner separate from the bag..
don't worry....nothing will happen to it...nothing will be erased...

after the scan, you put it back into your carry on.. no big deal....

DH always takes his, always been fine.

Takes it out of hand luggage and puts it in a tray to go through scanner.

I take my works laptop on planes all the time with no problems. You will have to remove it from your bag and put it through the x-ray machine on it's own, but the x-rays will not harm it.

Phew! Thanks guys! My mind is at ease now!

The plan is to transfer pictures onto my laptop everyday - in case something should happen to the cameras/ cards... I just needed to check the x-rays wouldn't affect my computer!!

That's a good tip. I think I have some server space that comes free with my ISP at home (Virgin Media) so I can use that as a back up.

Another for the good tip. I just saved my photos every day on my laptop and then transferred them to a USB flash drive. London75's idea is even better.

Also, try to make sure your laptop battery has some power - I got asked to switch on my laptop going through security whilst on a business trip to Germany, but had run out of power so spent ages gettinig the leads set up etc.
