Im going on Vacation with my sister and she is plus size. She fits on everything comfortably but never tried SDMT. I am concerned with her fitting because I heard some plus sized people having problems fitting. I dont want her to be embarrassed at all since there is no test seat. shes roughly 290 pounds and has a larger but and hip area. Im wondering if we should just bypass this experience?

Before people comment for her to lose weight she has been and struggled with Poly cystic ovarian syndrome and her weight her entire life and eats healthy. Please this isnt a debate about size and disney being plus sized friendly. I just want her to have a good time on our vacation it means alot to me so comments not helpful to the discussion is not appreciated

The seats are very small. And they are molded so it wouldn't be comfortable to have to sit outside of that area. I hate to say it, but I think you may want to give it a pass.

I rode it when I was up around 270ish. It was definitely uncomfortable, and I carry my weight all over, not necessarily top/bottom heavy. I agree with maxiesmom, I hate to say it, but I'd give it a pass.

Are you guys heading to universal at all? If so, please feel free to message me, I can give you more insight about issues over there. :)

We are not but thank you for the advice. its no big deal, I'd rather know now then the day of you know? Shes also very laid back so not riding wouldnt be the end of the world :)

I rode 7DMT when I was about 290lbs and I've always had big thighs and hips. I fit, but it was a painful ride and I had bruises on the sides of my thighs from the lap bar after.

I am a big guy with a very wide build. I have a wide build from shoulders straight down. This ride is NOT comfortable for me but I suffered through it 5 or 6 times. It was both fun and painful :-) I fit but those molded seats and the narrow safety bar made it a challenge.

I don't know, SDMT is a pretty tight fit for anyone who is not limber, and IMO pretty small. I like the ride but it hurts to get out of those seats, and is tight for me. I am 5'5 and a size 14, to give you an idea of the size.

Personally, if your sister is over a size 16, I would just walk by the attraction. My son in law went on and was sorry, and my daughter avoided it. DSIL told her he was glad she did nto put herself through it.

I am going to take this opportunity to complain. Whoever was responsible for designing cars like this should be fired. Any sort of physical challenge is magnified on this attraction, with getting in difficult and getting out almost impossible. I have arthritis in my knees, but never gave that a thought until I had to uncramp myself and haul me out.

Have you been on Flight of Passage? Similar issues (albeit slightly different) there. :(

I concur. I'm 5' 4" 160 lbs and a size 14. I rode with my 6 year old at the time who is very thin. I wouldn't call it tight but my first thought was wow, they built this thing really small.

If she fit it would not be comfortable at all. Emotionally for her I don't think it would be worth it.

omg Im so sorry that happened to you :(

Yeah I'm a size 14 and I felt ok, but I cant understand why the individual restraints are molded the way they are. but thanks for the feedback!

The ride really is such a snug fit, I had to sit next to a stranger and I felt like we got so up close and personal we should've exchanged numbers.
OMG XD

thank you everyone for all the replies and responses. I think we will pick another FP and pass this experience. Its more important to me that we have a fun chill time then worry. I will worry no more! She can fit on all the other rides so we will have tons of fun.

as for FOP I expect issues there as well but I'm not putting her through that ride either if the test seat is an issue.

I agree. It is a nice attraction, but it is not worth the cost if someone is embarrassed. I have been on it twice, and I doubt I am going again.

When are you going? I'm hoping we keep having more feedback on FOP size issues. Our friend is meeting us down there and am concerned for him.

we are going 8/11 - 8/23 our first official park day will be 8/13. I'm hoping something is added to help bigger sized guest ride but if not we will still have fun. I may ride without her but shes ok for waiting at Pongu pongu :D

Is there a sample seat outside of the attraction to try?
For SDMT no, for FOP yes

My DH and I have ridden everything at WDW. I am 5'4" and 222# and DH is 5'8" at 290#. Yes, we are both uncomfortable on SDMT. But it isn't a long ride. Yes, we skip it depending on who is with us. DH isn't wild about rollercoasters. And at 48 I realized last trip that I can't ride EE twice back to back :crazy2:

Last time I was there I saw someone leaving because they didn't fit. I felt really bad for him. I looked away to not embarrass him further, but he didn't look that big. Maybe he had big thighs. He wasn't tall.

The seats are molded and small.
The lap bar is a pretty tight fit as well.
I think whether she would fit or not would also depend on how tall she is with being that weight.
If she carries weight more in her hips/butt/thighs and its only 5ft then I think she may have a problem fitting in vs being like 5'9".
All I can say is that its been plus size friendly for my family.
My mom can fit in it at about 235lbs and she has the shape of a pregnant woman.
My BIL can fit in it at 300lbs+ but he is over 6ft and just a big boned guy.
I'd tell her that if she cannot fit in the seat not to be worried at all.
No one is paying attention to if she ends up standing up and walking out the exit.
