Worried about CBR overflow at AKL

We're going to AKL November 9-15. I have read so much about the unique and peaceful feeling of the resort, but I'm worried that it's going to be packed with CBR relocatees.
I know that WDW is not the place to go if you're looking for quiet, but this is the first time
we're paying for a deluxe and I have high (maybe too high) expectations. Has anybody
seen a difference at the deluxe hotels and specifically AKL because of the CBR renovation?

I am assuming that you started to worry after you read this thread or one like it:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=278024

FWIW, I hope you can find a way to quit worrying about the things (like a full hotel) you cannot control. Please don't assume that those who would normally stay at a moderate will "ruin" the deluxe AKL experience for others. Room assignments are "luck of the draw" everywhere.

There are always children at all of the hotels. There are always a few that could use a little more parental supervison. .Pool accidents happen at every hotel and there is no way to know that it was a "CBR relocatee" that was responsible for the accident at AKL.

You'll have a good time - just remember that you are at Disney in a beautiful resort!

CarolMN,

thanks for your words of encouragement, I'll check out the thread and see if I've already read it (I think I have and that is why I became concerned). I'm not worried about the conduct of the CBR's-heck, last time we stayed at CBR(btw, there was a pool pooping incident while we were there)
I'm more thinking along
the lines that I didn't expect AKL to be too crowded at this time of year and now it may be more crowded than usual, but you're right-it's out of my control and I'm sure I'll enjoy myself no matter what.

Good for you! With an attitude like that, you're sure to have a good time!

I had a long talk with someone at CRO last night. He said that the resorts are almost all booked for the month of November. (especially AKL, Poly, and WL) So I'm guessing all the resorts will be crowded. It must be the good discount codes that are causing more people to travel during this time of year.

Also with CBR, SOG, and DI being closed that makes a big difference too. They should have opened Pop Century!

We were at AKL last week and although we were told the resort was completely full, the only time it felt at all crowded was Sunday evening after a HUGE thunderstorm, which I suspect brought LOTS of people back from the parks early---and also closed the pool area. Even then, it was still possible to wander around and see the animals (which were very active then). And we had no trouble getting a fast-food dinner at the Mara, which was crowded but serving people very quickly and efficiently.

On the nice-weather days, the pool, lobby, etc. never felt crowded. Only Boma seemed mobbed most evenings. For a peaceful, "deluxe" meal, try Jiko-- we did, and loved it!

just because Disney decided to rehab CBR, does that make us bad people? I saw a thread start just like this when we found out CBR was closing. PLEASE - Let's NOT do it again.

You'll be at Disney, you'll be on vacation! relax and enjoy it.

Good thing I took my CBR upgrade to the Polynesian so I won't inconvience the "real" AKL resort guests. FWIW, my "investment" in the Disney Vacation Club cost more than weeks and weeks and weeks at the AKL Concierge Level. Just because someone chooses to stay at a moderate resort does not make them inferior or even cheap.

I think you'll have a fine time, although the resort will be more crowded than you wished for. The resort is beautiful.

Turtle,
I am going to be at AKL for the first time in November also. November 8- 11th and I am expecting the place to be packed- we both are coming in the weekend of soap weekend, nj week and also the food and wine festival is going on in Epcot. I am still excited , cause no matter the crowd, all I think of is i am going to be in disneyworld- THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH!! Just relax and have a great time. Enjoy your vacation- you deserve it :D

Right...some people need to chill out.

Turtlegirl's post quite clearly says she is concerned about how crowded AKL may be at what would be an otherwise quiet time of year due to guests being channeled there from other resorts, nothing more - nothing less, and it is a legitimate question.

I don't see anywhere where she implied they were...

Bad people.
Inferior.
Cheap.

So let's not put antagnosing words into other peoples mouths, hmmmm? It's of no benefit to anyone.

POlY Nov 2-6th and AKL Nov7th-10th

We took a CBR upgrade to the Poly for 5 nights as that is all we could get and then decided on AKL for the last 4 nights. I'm hoping that the Poly will give us lot's of advantages being close to MK and that we will have a feeling of fun, excitement and relaxation.

I am going to try to keep the thought that AKL will be more of an educational trip for us but, still give us the feeling of fun, excitement and realation.

It may give us a feeling that we are having to vacations in one!

The reason I wanted us to go to CBR was the conveinces of a moderate resort but, we had no choice but to move! The cost is greater especially with the exchange on the dollar, but you never know what tomorrow holds. As far as how crowded they will be that is out of our hands.

I was at AKL Labor Day Weekend. We arrived Friday around 4:30 and there was no line for check in and we were able to get into Jiko with no problem at 5:30 -it was empty! We were told the hotel was full, but never felt crowded- except for Boma Sunday night.

When we checked out Monday morning, it seemed the whole place was checking out at once , but when I called bell servcies, they were at our door in less than two minutes and when we got downstairs, our car was waiting. The service is great and the lodge is beautiful!!!!!

I'll be at AKL from Nov 10 to 15th also. I expect the lodge to be crowded the first day or 2 with all the weekend/holiday/special events going on, but get better after that. Although, I really don't think the high occupancy rate will have much or an effect on the visit since most people spend little time at the resort.

I'm another CBR relocatee. With all the resorts closed, I think most of the remaining ones will be more full than normal for this time of year.

If people making noise in the hall is a concern, bring some type of white noise maker. I frequently just leave a bathroom fan on to cover any noise from other guests. They also have white noise machines that you can buy that are really nice. Even in a totally empty resort, one inconsiderate person can make a lot of noise, so come prepared.

Wow guys, I feel really bad for the original poster, who I do not believe was in any way being snobbish or mean. I think she was concerned about what her hotel will be like when it's booked much fuller than she had expected.

For what it's worth, I was at AKL due to the CBR rehab at the end of September, and it was lovely. They told me that it was 99% full for Friday and Saturday nights, but I never felt crowded.

Yeah I totally dont think TurtleGirl was trying to be snotty or anything...I can understand her being all worried that the hotel is going to be mega busy, but she totally wasnt taking a shot at any CBR people. But hey who cares, your in Disney World! :)

One of my first posts and I've created quite a ruckus...thanks to those who understood
my concern. I love the boards, but in a way I wish that I had never discovered them-
then I wouldn't worry-Did I get the best price, is the resort going to be too crowded, am I going to get a view of a People Pen, now that EE is back-should I go here, there or everywhere, should I make a PS for this restaurant? There may be something to going to WDW blissfully unaware...

Turtlegirl,

I hate it that you got flamed on one of your first post. I didn't read any intentinal animosity in your post and can't see why anyone else felt the need to do so either.

As for the crowded hotel...the real issue at question, we have stayed at the AKL during both Christmas Week and Easter Week within the last year. Both times, the AKL was booked at 100%. In honesty, the pool was crowded at Easter, but the lobby and other public spaces were really kind of sparse. You would have never know it was full.

This is our favorite resort, and I think you will enjoy you stay.

And please don't let the hypersensitivity of some of our other Disers dissuad you from being a regular on these boards. I've been flamed a time or two, but the commeradery of most Disers and the insites I have gained about Walt Disney World have far out weighed a few negative comments.

Minnie's Mate,

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement and the info. on your past experiences at AKL
Since you've been there before, do you have any room location recommendations?
