World Cup- Are Americans Excited?

6-1 now to England they are looking good, but the Iranian opponents are not great.
Good to see the Iranian players refusing to sing their National Anthem in solidarity of the people back home against the despots running that country.

NFL is a minnow compared to football.
Roughly the Super Bowl gets 18% of the viewers of the World Cup Final.
The world plays football (soccer) really only Americans play American football, which in itself has its roots in English Rugby Union.
English Premier League averages 70 million a week vs 17 for NFL.
Football is certainly not boring, I think the problem is the average American is not invested in a team. But it is 100% growing. I’ve been visiting the USA since 1991 and it’s definitely grown a lot in that time.
Its been rumoured a long time NFL will set up a London Franchise and Tottenham’s stadium has been built with this in mind (soccer pitch slides back to have NFL pitch underneath, NFL changing rooms are there, I went to look around).
If Messi and/or Ronaldo come to Inter Miami it will accelerate that growth tremendously.

Is anybody else getting up EARLY tomorrow for Messi and Argentina.(5:00 AM EST)

Every Argentina game will be part of history as Messi's World Cup career comes to an end.

We will beat Wales for you. We are both making it to the round of 16.

It is 5:00am and probably not though I'll be DVRing it and will FF through it when I wake up stopping for goals, cards, and stuff like that. If it was against Mexico or Poland probably but Argentina should be able to swat Saudi Arabia aside with little effort.

I’ll have the highlights on my thread.

Pregame is earlier.
IMO, if you're going to post the time of a sporting event, post the time of the SPORTING EVENT. Don't say it's on at 3AM when they won't kick off until 5AM. That would be like saying the Super Bowl starts at Noon on Super Bowl Sunday ( kickoff is usually around 6-7p, but "pre-game" is all day).

If you want to include pre-game (for those folks who don't understand pre-game coverage happens before the game), then say "Pregame at 3AM, Kickoff at 5".

ETA: FS1 coverage starts at 4A.

Fox wants to trick the public for higher ratings.

Of course they do. Broadcasters will generally say "coverage begins at X". However, no one on this board (that I know of) works for a broadcaster, so there's really nothing to gain by posting what time pre-game starts.

I watched the game today.. well I tried to like it. What’s with all the male drana queens rolling around dreaming every tiime the they get knocked down?

While there are some drama class work on display, ever get your foot stepped on by cleats? How about getting whacked in the shin (or back of the leg)? It does hurt. Why does no one call a (American) FB player who goes down hurt a "drama queen"?

Yes, you can find examples in soccer of players who acted like they've had their achilles cut when video shows they've basically been touched by a feather (or not touched at all). Unfortunately it's part of the "gamemenship". Refs are supposed to card those they feel are faking for "simulation". Rarely gets used.

I think a number of players in the US game yesterday were having issues with cramping. That's why they'd be running, then sort of just collapse.

And this is why I don't gamble.

That's exactly why I won't watch men's soccer. They are ridiculous.

The group stage? Who do you have getting out of groups C and H then, especially C? Anything is possible but I can't imagine 2 of Mexico, Poland, and Saudi Arabia (possibly the worst team ever to qualify for a World Cup) gets out.

My bracket is a Brazil Portugal final but I have Argentina making it to semi-final and losing to Brazil.
This didn't age well haha. You never know

Though it is still early, anything else can still happen
