Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Yesterday I did my bike ride to the new SeaWorld special that is running on the travel channel. I can't wait! They have two new shows since we were last there, and we always have a relaxing time. August, here we come!

Today is my rest day. Well, I do plan to do a strength training session, but no cardio. I can't believe my first race is coming up so quickly. Saturday morning I'm going to find out what it's all about. I'm a bit nervous, but worst case scenario, I know I can walk 5K.

Kristi & Cindy -- what has worked for me is finding a new way to keep track of what I'm doing. Not to push Sparkpeople, but if you want to count calories for awhile, or carbs, or servings of fruits or veggies, just giving yourself a new way to do what you're doing might be a catalyst. Or maybe set a mini-goal, like this week you'll drink alot of water? Whatever you think a small goal might be -- that helps me. I need a little success to keep me going!:goodvibes

Dave -- your walk sounds awesome! And you followed it up with a fantastic lunch. Sounds like you and Erica are really enjoying yourselves :)

Jen -- I am a run/walker outside. Right now I run for three songs, then walk for one. That seems to work well for me. I guess I will try to increase that ratio as there is less of me. :cool1: I do run straight through on the TM, although most people would call my pace a jog, I run a 12min/mi. I had to work hard to get up to being able to sustain that for 45 minutes. When I first started, I could only sustain 4.2 mph for a few minutes, so I've come a long way.

Minnie:wave:

Just for fun -- Who's your favorite Disney character? I'm a Belle girl.

Have an awesome movin' day!
Maria

Good morning WISH friends.

Cam, nope not a fluffy lime green frog, now you are the Pirate Princess of the Carribean.pirate: Your "YARC" title.

Today's walk was by myself, my princess slept in this morning. I did a nice early 4 miler on my hill course. I started slow and each mile was progressively faster. Total time was 50:58 and last mile, mostly up a long hill was 11:53.

Tomorrow I'll have a hard effort. I'm following a strange walking schedule but it's working for me.

Mon/Tue, LSD with Erica

Wed moderate hill effort usually 4 miles

Thur hard hill effort, also 4 miles

Fri moderate hill effort

Sat speed intervals usually 4 X 400m

Sun Rest

Have a great day everyone.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

Hello,

How is everyone doing? It's been a bit quiet on this thread. I hope that's because everyone is busy having fun and eating well.

I for one have NOT been eating very well. This summer is going to be so hard with all the parties and picnics I'll be going to. I was at a bday party this weekend, and I didn't even try to count points or make good choices. Ugh. I'm sure I'll pay for it tomorrow when I WI.

Maria: Thanks for the suggestion about finding a new way to measure successes. I like the sparkpeople site, I just have a hard time finding the time to get on the computer during the days I don't work. I think if I spent a little time setting up my daily menus it would go faster since I tend to eat the same things in general. It's a great idea about counting getting your water in as a success. In that same vein, I think I'm going to try to add stretching into my daily routine and use that as progress toward my goal.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Cindy, dear why have you not requested entry into the court of "YARC", I know you must have a quirk or two that would qualify you to join our ranks and become a Pretty Princess of "YARC"???????

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

I weighed in this morning and sported a 1 pound loss. Whooo Hooo. Normally I WI on Friday, but the DIS Sparkpeople group post on Monday's so that is what I did. I will be out of town tomorrow afternoon through Saturday with my mom... that means eating out every meal except breakfast (we pack PB and bread and fruit for breakfast).

Maria - I am keen on Tinkerbelle.

Dave - I wish I had a walking (running) buddy like you have with Erica. Maybe I would be more inspired to get my runs in!! You are a lucky man.

OK, gotta run (tee hee). Since I leave tomorrow I am SWAMPED!

Yes, I am blessed. We share our journey through life together, two parts of one whole. I was so worried about her this year with the heart concern then she caught the flu, it hasn't been a good year for her. But she is doing good again now.

Dave:hippie:

Hi, all! Remember me?

I'm back on the DIS after three, can you believe it, three months? Long story, but right around the time I left for spring break lots of life-changing things started to happen. I'll probably be writing about them in my WISH journal, so I won't bore you with the details here. I will say that I have a family wedding to go to this weekend, am in the middle of relocating to Pittsburgh in mid-July with DH, and am looking for a new job there, which might possibly include a career shift of an indeterminate nature.

Anyway, I'm back to trying to work out regularly, train for the Goofy, and lose weight. (Full disclosure: I've gained 4 pounds since I last posted.) And I'm going to try to post regularly through all this, even though I've done a pretty lousy job so far.

I'll catch up with all your recent news soon; I hope you're all doing well. I do see that Jen has reason to celebrate and that Dave's Erica is doing well.

Maria - Thanks for remembering me :goodvibes

As I'm sure your all aware when I'm not posting I'm not doing well. I've gained back nearly everything I lost. I've been going through quite a bit of stress and that gets me every time. This week is another bad one :guilty:

I really want to get back with it but I do recognize the issues that are currently all to present. Hope to be back on track and posting soon :goodvibes

Hi, everyone!
I am sorry I havent' been here in a while, but life has been completely insane. I am on the organizing committee for Special Olympics summer games which I absolutely LOVE!!! The event was Friday and Saturday (and I am one of the co-chairs responsible for all meals except Saturday breakfast) and DS's 8th grade graduation was Sunday and his party was right afterwards. So, I'll have to share with you the email I sent to some friends explaining my "neglect":

Okay, here is how events unfolded last week:
DMIL arrived Wednesday. Weds evening Howard insisted I meet all at Costco for party stuff and then dinner. I got there from my office at 8 (having left my cell phone on my desk), did my party shopping list real quick, dinner at applebee's, on the road home at 9:20 from 20 minutes away. Highway closed; I'm in my car alone with no cell phone, in a strange area, can't read signs, etc. and finally get home close to 10:30 with Howard and DMIL very worried. Actually, I was proud I found my way home. Bed was at some normal time, probably 11:30. YAY!

Thursday -- up early and to the gym before work; worked until 10:30 pm; highway entrance closed; major backroad that I know was closed; can't figure out how to get from point A to point B. WHat should have been 7 mile drive in 12 mins turns into me arriving home 11:18 without having had anything since lunch. Up until 1:15 doing special olympics paperwork and 100 crunches & pushups.

Friday -- up at 5:45; arrive at campus (30 mins away) before 7 a.m. (that was the last time my bottom touched down until 10:05pm). Supervised all food prep, service, and clean up for lunches, dinner, and victory party. Missed opening ceremonies because we were too busy. :o( Finished serving lemonade and pretzels at 9:45 pm, clean-up done by 10:05, sat down next to DMIL in arena lobby to wait out storm. On the road home by 10:30. Home by 11. DSalmost14 tries on clothes for graduation and pants and sleeves on suit are at least 2 inches too short. !!!!!! After settling down from my panic, I did Special Olympics paperwork on the computer; checked work email and responded to some; 100 crunches & push ups; in bed by 1:30 am.

Saturday -- up at 5:30; shopping for additional lunch supplies and arrive at campus by 6:45. Supervise and execute all meal prep, service & clean-up. Spend some time at main medical facility nearly hyperventilating after DS fell down the stadium steps and concrete-burned entire outside of leg, with 3 large oozing, seriously "indented" abrasion wounds & 2 lacerations (thank God no injuries above his hips and nothing broken). I can't even imagine the scarring he is going to have. A lifetime of regret for a moment of stupidity -- some girl with a major crush was chasing him on the stadium steps. Left campus at 6:30 pm; Howard took DS with him and stopped to pick up some suits for him to try on at home. I went to Costco for an errand for a friend and dinner for Saturday night houseguests (oh, did I mention I had a houseful of people Saturday night for the graduation?), to the grocery store for Sunday breakfast items for all houseguests, to the pharmacy for the list of medical supplies recommended by doctor who took care of DS. Home to do wound care, dinner for all, dealing with suit issues. Straighten house; gather pictures and find frames and create displays for graduation party; gather all serving pieces, etc. & lay out all non-perishable food items for Sunday breakfast & party. Paperwork on computer for SO after-event notes. crunches & push-ups. In bed by 1:30. (I was so grateful my friend Marie hemmed DS's pants Saturday night and she and DD18 helped cut up stuff for the party. YAY!!)

Sunday -- up at 5:45. Wrap brother's bday presents; pick up cake, balloon bouquets, bday cards (to replace lost cards); home by 7:50. Leave at 8 for Mass. Attend Mass & Graduation & reception. Home by 11:45. Set up for party. Last guests leave at 7:40pm. Clean-up. Return several phone calls. Thank you calls to friends who helped with party. In bed by 11:30. Phone rings at 11:38 for Howard's mom. When I can't find her, I realize she's in DS's room because I never put the guestroom back together after other guests used it Saturday night. So, I made the bed & straightened the room and got back to bed by midnight.

Up yesterday morning at 6:30 (didn't make it to the gym). Howard took his Mom to Atlantic City last night. I had a project deadline of midnight, and ended up being done and out of the office around 8:10. Went home, had dinner, did crunches & sit-ups, some reading and in bed by midnight. Up this morning by 7.

Geez, I am so exhausted. I think I figured out I'd had less than 20 hours sleep in 4 nights, but my average is improving because I am up to almost 27 hours in 5 nights! LOL!

So, exercise (except for crunches & push-ups) hasn't happened since Thursday a.m. Tonight I have to spend time with DMIL who is leaving tomorrow. The gym won't happen in the morning either since we are taking her to the airport by 7:30 a.m. Maybe tomorrow night! Food has been so bad since Saturday night. Things are under control again today, but I fear the scale!

Okay, that was long and boring! ;) Sorry, dear WISH friends for exposing you to that. :rotfl2: I know, I know, one excuse after another!

Life HAS to calm down now and I can settle into a routine of training for my next long race that is 2 months from today. I have 3 5ks in the next 22 days so at least I know I have some work-outs on the calendar! Now I have to get back to properly fueling my body for them.

So Cam are you well rested now? Sounds like you need a clone, but is the world ready for another Cam.:)

Dave:hippie:

Hi Guys!

It's my rest day, and I couldn't be happier -- but I'd gladly give it to Cam, I think you need it more!

Yesterday I did my crunches and push-ups (I joined Cam's challenge on Sparkpeople), after 35 minutes on the stationary bike. I've been getting myself to and from work this week instead of catching my usual ride w/dh (he's leaving earlier and going farther away for a class, so I have to take ds to school), so that means I'm also walking 60 minutes every day. I think it's helping, I plan to see if I can find a way to keep it up as much as possible on the TM after this week is over. That's in addition to my scheduled workout of the day.

I was kind of discouraged because I seemed to have gained back everything I lost after the 5K -- is that normal? Probably not. Anyway, I don't think it was "real", because I've already lost 2.5 lbs. of it. I expect to end this week where I was before the 5K, which means I definitely won't lose 10 lbs. by the 15th. Still shooting for the 30th, though!

My eating has really improved since I started recording everything I eat. I'm still getting too many carbs, but at least I'm getting fruits and vegetables, too, and I'm making a conscious effort to eat more protein.

Cam -- you may not have technically had a workout, but you certainly burned plenty of calories. And you kept up with your crunches and push-ups! Please only be proud of yourself for your fantastic accomplishments. You weathered quite a weekend, and I for one am very proud of you!:cheer2: Congratulations on all the wonderful events -- the Special Olympics, your son's graduation, take a moment to catch your breath! And I hope for a speedy recovery for your son. I hope you have a good long night's sleep planned for tonight. :cloud9:

Minnie -- Hang in there! I was so bummed when I got on the scale Monday morning...but you can't give up, so the only choice is to go forward!:cool1:

DKP -- Welcome back! Glad to see your life is settling down a bit. :upsidedow

Jen -- 1 lb. is awesome! And I can see why you like Tink.:tinker: Hey, everyone else must have a favorite character, are you just being shy?!

Dave -- What a wonderful attitude you have! And you are so lucky to have a buddy. DH and I both run, but I am soooo much slower than he is.

Cindy -- Summer is hard with all the events, but on the bright side, hopefully there will always be some fruit and veggies available. I think winter is harder for me because of all the baked goods. I loooove carbs...:scared1:

Kristi & Jen --

Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday!
Maria

Hi Everyone,

Maria: Did you post your 5K race report somewhere? I've looked all over for it, but couldn't find one. I'm a bit behind reading the weekly training thread, so maybe I missed it there. How did the race go? I'm sorry you've gained a bit of weight, but just keep at it. You are right about the fruits and veggies being good this time of year. I just have to make better choices.

Cam:
I'm glad you survived your busy weekend. I'm really impressed you kept up with the crunches.

Dave: I don't really think I'm YARC material. I'm very quiet and reserved. I'm not comfortable bringing attention to myself. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just the way I'm wired.

Minnie: Post even when things aren't going well. That's when you need to rely on us even more.

dkp: Welcome back. Good luck with the Goofy training.

Jen: Congrats on your 1 lb loss.

I have happy news to report. I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight finally after 6 years. I still have another 20 to go, but it's a bit of a psychological milestone for me. (Darn, I can't blame the kids for my weight anymore!) Next up my pre-wedding weight.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Dave:hippie:

Thanks for the suggestion, Dave! A friend told me yesterday it takes a while to grow a clone so he wanted to put an order in for me before the craziness of the fall schedule. What a darling!

It's my rest day, and I couldn't be happier -- but I'd gladly give it to Cam, I think you need it more!

What a wonderful friend you are, Maria!

What an awesome workout! And thank you for your kind words. I LOVE to work with Special Olympics so it is always a nice kind of exhaustion! :confused3 DS seems to be perfectly fine after his fall, though he is singing the National Anthem at our minor league baseball team's game tomorrow night and his leg is going to look like heck in his school uniform shorts. I am inclined to wrap the whole leg, rather than have it looking the way it does on the jumbotron.

Great job, Cindy! You must be so proud of yourself! :woohoo:

Well, once again, I am back on track. I ate purely core foods yesterday and am doing the same today. The scale quickly goes back to my "plateau range" or "set point weight" as soon as I have a day of decent eating. It's interesting how my body is willing to tolerate the junk as long as I get back on track with food and water. Now, I just really need to get down another 5 pounds -- if my body decides that is within the next set point weight range, I won't mind so much because the second number in my weight will be at a number it hasn't been since between the ages of 10 and 12 (Did I mention I was HUGE from the time I was 10? :scared1: )

So, anyway, I am doing lots of proteins and whole grains. I seem to have recently gotten in the habit of eating a lot of fruits -- the summer fruits are just wonderful this year! but I have to keep reminding myself that the calories are important too.

Jen -- congrats on your loss, kiddo! :thumbsup2 Will I even recognize you at CDC?

deekaypee -- it is so nice to see you here again! Stick around, okay? We all need all the support we can get! :goodvibes

Minnie -- the same goes for you! You have been missed. :cutie: So glad you are here again. I have the same tendency to not post when I'm not doing well, but keep reminding myself that the best way to get on track and stay on track is to avail myself of the wonderful support and great ideas here.

I wanted us to try something somewhat new on this thread, if you are all willing. Let's post what our favorite/best on-plan meal of the day was for the day before. I figure this will give us all ideas for good, healthy meals and it might actually encourage me to vary my meals and come up with some creative ideas.

You guys game? :rotfl: Here goes:

My dinner last night was a delicious, fast weight watchers recipe called diet coke chicken with steamed broccoli and whole wheat couscous. All WW core, but my whole family enjoys this meal.

Next?

Here I am!

I am still struggling to get back on Core 100%.
Doing alot better now, esp. after I weighed in last week up yet again. :sad2:

I haven't been able to go back & read - but I will. Things are absolutely crazy with Chad working again - I am SO not used to this!

Cam
- please share this diet coke chicken recipe. I hardly ever cook & I think that's my main hurdle to overcome right now in losing these 11 pounds that have crept back on me.

Cam - please share this diet coke chicken recipe. I hardly ever cook & I think that's my main hurdle to overcome right now in losing these 11 pounds that have crept back on me.

With pleasure --
1 cup ketchup
1 can diet coke
1-2 pounds chicken pieces (I do 2 pounds of boneless, skinless breast cut into approx. 4 oz pieces)

Spray bottom of saucepan with non-stick cooking spray
Place chicken pieces in saucepan
Mix diet coke & ketchup together in bowl
Pour over chicken
cover & simmer for 40 minutes; remove lid and cook about 5 minutes longer for sauce to thicken. It will taste similar to barbecue sauce.

Be sure to make a side dish that you can put the sauce over. Brown rice, whole wheat couscous or baked potatoes all work well and are core. I also like the chicken and sauce served over steamed broccoli.

Enjoy!

Cam: Thanks for the recipe idea. Listing my healthy meal from yesterday: Lemon chicken with long grain and wild rice.

I Pammed the frying pan, put garlic and boneless chicken breasts in over med heat. After the chicken was done I removed it from the pan, tried to take most of the garlic out since it was starting to brown. I then added lemon juice, water and 2 buillion cubes and stirred. I let it boil down a bit then put the chicken back in the pan for a couple minutes. I served it over the Uncle Ben's microwave rice which I just love for the convenience. Note there are no vegetables in this meal. I just don't like veggies much. I did snack on mini carrots while this was cooking.

Kristi: Welcome back. I'm sure you'll find a routine soon with Chad's new job. We went through the same thing last year after DH was out of work for the summer. I liked having him home so much - I got spoiled with the extra help.

Have a great night everyone.
Cindy

Hi Everyone,

Dave: I don't really think I'm YARC material. I'm very quiet and reserved. I'm not comfortable bringing attention to myself. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just the way I'm wired.

Darlin, haven't you ever heard of guilt by association? You could be on the watch list in some states by just admitting you know us.

Oh and YEAH!!! For getting your weight down to pre kids weight.

Everyone, good morning, have a wonderful day filled with love and caring.

Dave:hippie:

Cindy -- What an awesome sounding recipe! I think I am going to make that tomorrow!

Okay, best meal choice of yesterday for this WISHer? First, a little background. We had DSalmost14's Boy Scout Court of Honor and end of year picnic last night. Picture it -- hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, about 10 different side dishes including all standard picnic-fare cold salads, PLUS about 15 different desserts.
My dinner: 2 boca burgers (soy); baby carrots; 1 piece grilled chicken thigh. When I got home, I was still hungry so I ate the last small pieces of diet coke chicken with one piece of melted fat free cheese and shared some 94% FF popcorn with my daughter.

Anyone else wanna share ideas?

Hi Guys!

Pretty much a drive-by this morning, I promise next week will be better, in so many ways!

My best meal yesterday was breakfast -- WW yogurt and a banana. I want to eat at Cindy's house!
