Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Great pictures Dave, thanks for posting them. Glad you had a good meal. Hope you got out for your walk.

Cindy

Good Morning!

I didn't do my biking yesterday. DS didn't go to gymnastics and it threw off everybody's schedule. It's supposed to be my rest day today, but I may make it yesterday so I get 5 workouts in this week. I'm not thrilled with 4 days in a row, but since two of them are biking I think it will be ok.

I did eat well -- I didn't eat anything after dinner, not even dessert. I'm trying to retrain myself to believe dessert is a once a day event -- if I eat it during the day, then nothing at night.

Cindy -- That is an awesome quote! And so appropriate for those of us on the long journey to good health. Congratulations on the 2 lbs. That is awesome!

Cam -- I'm thinking the shuffle is the way to go. I really just want this for running, and it seems like the perfect size. DH agreed, so now we just have to go buy them. Hopefully I can drag him to Target later this week. I love Heroes! But I watch it on Friday nights, as part of my sci fi block. I'm watching 24 and taping Dancing with the Stars when it's on.

Dave -- Keep going, you are doing great!

My fruits and veggies today are blueberries, kiwi and carrots. We need to get to the grocery store because I'm running out of good stuff.

Everyone have a fantastic day!
Maria

Ok 5 weeks till the Senior Olympics. Part of a competition like that is physical talent the other is mental toughness. I'm going into that pumped and ready.

My mantra has been "rise above it", for the next 5 weeks when the workout is tough and I need to dig deep my mantra will be "bring it on".

Yesterday Erica and I ate a lot, but it was good healthy food so screw it. We had fun. New outlook on this whole eat exercise rat race. Eat healthy workout hard and kick the scales butt.

Yea I'm in a giddy rebel mood this morning. I had a strong workout on the treadmill. Speed intervals and even a walk sprint at a 8:35 min per mile pace. That was only for about a 100m but it's somnething to build on.

I had planned a 4 miler on the hills but it's pouring rain here today.

All my WISH friends, you guys rock! Thanks for letting me get loud a little bit here this morning.:flower3:

Dave:hippie:

Maria – I think you will love the Shuffle. BTW, I know someone on the weekly training thread said you can only shuffle songs and not play them in order, but that isn’t true. There is a setting showing a continuous loop or a criss-crossing loop, across from the “off” slide. The continuous loop means to play the songs in the order in which you have them organinzed; the criss-crossing loop means to shuffle the songs. I use the continuous/organized setting because I have my songs in a particular order with slower, warm-up songs at the beginning of the lineup.

Dave – :woohoo: for your positive attitude! I cannot believe how quickly your event is coming up! :cool1: That 100m walk sprint blows me away! Man, you were smokin’!!!!

Okay, I am pleased with how yesterday went, especially since it represented 8 days of me being on track – my longest streak in a long time. I am aspiring to Cindy’s record! :goodvibes

Food yesterday:
B: coffee w/skim milk; shredded wheat w/skim milk
L: salad w/olive oil, tomatoes, cucumbers & grilled chicken
S: WW cheddar twists
D: broccoli; 2 boca burgers w/ff cheese; mixed veggies (steamed)
S: WW dark chocolate raspberry twist

Sparkpeople & Weight Watchers Core Requirements:

Water: 90 oz by 11:30
Healthy Oils (2 tsp): 2/2
Non-fat dairy (2 svgs): 2/2
Fruits & Veggies (5 svgs): 6/5

Today’s plan:

L: green salad w/olive oil; boca burger; steamed broccoli
(not sure about snacks or dinner yet)

How is everyone else doing?

Good morning guys.:flower3:

Keeping the fires burning, job one now is to keep the heat on but not cross the line and injure something.

I did my 4 mile route on the hills in a new PR. Old PR was 49:22, new PR is 48:04. I knocked 1 min and 18 sec off the old best time. The last hill was a little sporty going up but I used my new mantra to get me up it without slowing to much. "Bring It On".

I came home and rolled out my leg muscles with my rubber rolling pin, took two advils and an electrolyte tablet. The Electrolyte tablet keeps me from cramping after a good effort.

Ok off to work, have a great day y'all. Remember the smile, if nothing else it makes people wonder what you are thinking about.

Dave:hippie:

Hi guys!

Wow, looks like everyone is doing well with their training...we should make an exercise cd, or something. "WISH Team Wonder Workout", or "Get Fit with WISH". lol:lmao:
I'm doing good with my training, I walked 10 miles yesterday w/my Leadville partner and we finished our walk in under 3 hours. I have been having pain in my left heal and I'm afraid that I will have to go to the doctors to see what's going on there. DH and I leave for Virginia on Monday, so it's going to have to wait til we get back.
I have a half marathon (Run the Rockies) on June 9th, so wish me luck!

Have a great weekend TEAM!:hippie:

Wow, I just noticed that I put this in the wrong thread...it was suppose to go under the weekly training thread. Oops....old age is a real drag sometimes. lol:rotfl2:

OK I am guilty. I am like Cam and am using Sparkpeople. I just don't have enough time to be everywhere and I feel bad about that. I try to check the training thread here, but sometimes I forget this one.

So here I am... 3 days until my 1/2 marathon. Do I feel trained for it... not one bit. The PF setback also setback my confidence. Will I finish, most likely, but probably not as fast as I would like.

Weight loss... What weight loss. I am still the same, which is not a bad thing since I am not GAINING! I am working on less full strength soda. Yesterday I had the rottenest of rotten days and DH asked if I wanted a soda... normally it would be a Coke to calm my nerves, but I asked for a diet one!!!

Woohoo, Jen on taking the diet soda instead of full-strength!!! :woohoo:

Just wanted to report in that I had another successful WW core day yesterday. I used 3 of my 35 weekly points allowance in order to have dessert, and it was wonderful. I have been on plan for 9 days and am still feeling strong.

Turns out that it was a good thing I was at the gym late last night. DH had been trying to reach me to persuade me to have chinese for dinner, but ended up eating dinner before I got home. WHEW!! Close call! Chinese food is my biggest weakness and I really didn't want to be tempted to eat off core or to use more WPAs, so I am glad I didn't have to forego the temptation on my own.

So, 9 days of :
---WW core plan
---being within sparkpeople's calorie recommendations (except for the day I went a bit over by having vitamin water at the gym, but I figure I sweated it out anyway ;)
---doing my 100 crunches and 100 push ups.

Cam - you are doing so awesome! And Chinese is my biggest weakness also - I can never say no to that.

Jen - not gaining is a victory! I am about 10 lbs. above where I was at the DL half marathon last Sept. (good God, did I just admit that?) I am NOT a happy camper. And I can certainly see those ten pounds in the pics I am scrapping - I like how I looked then. I am not thrilled with my recent Minnie pics at all. :sad2:

Dave - just wanted to thank you for keeping us all going, as usual!

I know I have been MIA lately. I am just a crazy-busy mess!
I have been doing better on Core, but not 100%. I have been getting my milk & 5+ servings of fruits & veggies in. I have also been getting much better with the water. My weakness, as it always is, is light ice cream. I am not beating myself up over it though - baby steps! I am heading in the right direction and that's all that really matters.

I also bought 2 new toning DVDs and some hand weights.
I have run out of time today, but I am going to break in a set of the weights & a DVD tomorrow.

I really need to find a race, any race. Without that "threat," I don't exercise!

Oh and I almost forgot (again)...
CONGRATS MINNIE!!!!

You guys keep me going to. As I write this and nibble a pint of Ben and Jerry's low fat frozen yogurt, Cherries Garcia.

I need a race to, I have nothing in may except for the Pig the first weekend. I might be able to find one somewhere.

Dave:hippie:

Since yesterday was a PR the rule is any PR is followed by a rest day. So I just went to the gym for a soak and good stretch in the hot tub. Nothing is sore this morning and that's a good sign but in exercising the day you feel the best is the easiest day to get injured because that's when you tend to over due it.

I have a rubber rolling pin ($10 at WalMart) that I use to massage out my legs. It works like the stick but I like it better.

Everyone have a good healthy day with a little fun sprinkled in to make it spicey.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning, Everyone!

I hope you are all off to a great start today. We're going to Target tonight to get the ipods! I am so excited! I can't wait, I really need a new training toy to get me going.

I was also loaned the Biggest Loser workout dvd, so I'm going to see if I like it. I don't do any strength training, so hopefully that will be a fun addition.

Dave -- Congrats on the PR! I love B&J Cherry Garcia. It is my all-time favorite flavor...

Kristi -- my bil and sil have been doing a ton of races in the seacoast area of NH. They live in Dover, and they seem to have something every weekend. They also get their ideas from nerunner.com.

Cam -- Excellent job on the Core! I am still getting the eating in order, but I have started selecting veggies and fruits for snacks without really thinking about it. I just have to train myself to go to the refrigerator before the pantry. It's slow, but I get a little better every week.

Jen -- It's great that you are doing a half in just a few days! You will do great. And it is huge to move from regular to diet soda. I did it, but it took a long time. Be proud of your progress!

Cindy -- Hope you're doing great!

Everyone have a fantastic day!
Maria

Come on guys UP UP UP, it's a new day out there, the past starts today. I officially pronounce today, "The first day of the rest of our lives". I know we have all said "If I had the chance to do it all over again", well you do, it starts today.

Ok Dave slinking off to walk. Love y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Dave -- I hope you had an awesome walk! It is SUCH a gorgeous day here, but alas, I am at my desk. :sad1: I did bring all my gym stuff, though, in the hopes of having the motivation to go tonight when I leave here.

Well, guys, I had a major splurge last night. I knew we were going to the best pizza place for DD, DS and DH to get pizza last night and I really didn't want to eat pizza, so I ate 2 veggie burgers w/FF cheese & some mixed veggies before we left the house. I also had DH make me 94% FF popcorn to take to the movies so that I didn't succumb to my BIGGEST weakness, movie theatre popcorn. So, I had all my strategies in place, right? Here's what happened.
We go to the farmer's market and I leave the gang at the pizza place and go shopping for 5 bags FULL of good, fresh produce. Then I wander around the market, looking at natural foods, etc. but then headed back to where they were and oh,no! an empty stool right next to DH! I sit down and forego the waitress's offer of pizza, etc. Then DS gives me his crust. Okay, I can do that. Then, he hands over 1/2 slice barbecue chicken pizza because he doesn't like it. DH is full after his 2 slices and is goign to throw it away. Well, Cam caved. UGH!! I ate the rest of his slice! My best guess is it was 200 calories, but who knows? When we went to the movies, I "tasted" about 4 hands full of movie popcorn, too. I just charged it all against my core plan weekly points allowance, but am still disappointed in myself for not having more willpower.
Then again, as our dear, sweet Dave has said, the past is gone and today is a new day! I have been so "good" since May 8 and I have to keep reminding myself that last night was a treat, not a splurge -- it fits in my plan and does not signify a failure.
Oh, I should mention, we saw "Shrek 3" -- so clever! DD surprised me by coming home from college for the weekend and it was so nice to have the four of us do something so fun together. :grouphug:

Today's food plan:
B: coffee w/skim milk; huge apple
L: garden salad w/olive oil & 2 hard-boiled eggs; green beans
S: pineapple chunks

I think I may steam a couple pounds of shrimp for dinner and to have in the fridge.

Maria -- Your comment about going to the fridge instead of the pantry slapped me right upside my head! ;) That is exactly right! When I eat fresh fruits & veggies and foods I've prepared and put in the fridge, I stay on track! When I start heading toward the pantry, it is very likely I am heading for not-so-good choices. Thank you so much for the reminder, sweetie!

I am so glad we can learn from each other!

Cam Darlin, one day at a time. Remember today gives us all a new chance.

How do you know when you have reached your ideal weight? When you feel comfortable in your body.

If looking at a movie star face and body in the mirror every morning is so wonderful, how come so many of the beautiful people are on rehab?

The anorexic model image sucks. Women are supposed to be soft and huggable, not hard and boney. Women are the softness that counters the hardness in the world.

Ok now that I've sucked up to y'all I can confess that I took another rest day. I just didn't feel it today. But don't count me out I'll be after it again tomorrow.

Dave:hippie:

Dave:hippie:

Okay, Dave, I'll make you a deal. By tomorrow night we will both have fulfilled the obligations we've made to ourselves to get our sessions in this weekend. DH and DS will be gone on a boy scout camping trip overnight and I'm not sure that will make me more or less likely to get out of bed early tomorrow to get outside, so rather than take a chance, I'll head to the gym tonight. I promise I'll have SOMETHING to report in. :goodvibes

Oh, and I love your philosophy on soft women. :cloud9: Fortunately, DH has the same opinion. Unfortunately, we won't have to worry about my "fluffiness" diminishing too much for about another 40 pounds or so. ;)

Your on pretty lady. No cheating. Tonight after work I'll do my upper body workout, Calistetics and trunk twists. Then tomorow morning interval walking.
And no vegiterian chilli with tuna tonight before bed. I know I shouldn't be allowed to cook.
