Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Good Morning!

I have my house back! I am sad my dad and his wife have left, but glad to get back to my little family. Last night was so hectic, I missed my bike workout for the first time. Today is supposed to be a rest day, so I'm trading. I'm still getting my five workouts in this week.

I'm also going to make sure I keep the points to a dull roar today. I could easily overeat out of relief, but I'm just not going to. Unfortunately, the six, yes six, boxes of GS cookies dh ordered came in yesterday. And, ds's latest fundraiser is selling cookie dough. I'll be giving most of the cookie dough away. I'm going to point the GS cookies and have them as desserts while they last. DH and ds will hopefully tear through them. Anyway, here's my eating plan:

B: cream of wheat and blueberries (3)
L: LC bowtie pasta & roasted chicken, sugar snap peas, carrots, Jello pudding(5)
S: cheese stick, clementines (3)
D: homemade pizza or LC, green beans (up to 8)
S: GS cookies (4)

That's a total of 23 points, and it includes 5 fruits/veggies, protein, and dairy, so that's probably about as well as I can do.

Dave -- What a happy soul you are! Continue to spread the joy! :wizard:

dkp -- Like you, I actually find myself looking forward to the activity. That is huge for me! I have come a long way in 6 weeks. You are totally right about dh, he is amazingly supportive. He's even going to run the Half at the same time (I doubt we'll stay together since he runs alot faster than I do). He abhors Disney, but he's willing to do it to help us both get healthier. I am a very lucky woman.

Kristi -- I am in no position to give advice, but have you thought about speaking with someone you admire, who knows you and your industry, who might have some thoughts about how you can better your situation? Did you have a favorite professor, any of your peers, or someone who was a few years ahead of you in school? I have a friend like that who I get together with monthly, and I find that sometimes helps me. :upsidedow

Cam and Jen -- I hope you are rebounding nicely with great food choices and rockin' exercise! :cool1:

Have a great one!
Maria

Thanks for all the positive thoughts & encouragement, guys! I am feeling much better today. And my supervisor Joe took care of some of my issues with what happened yesterday.

dkp - I do 'chyron' for the morning news. Your Dad would know what that is. I basically do anything that has to do with words on the screen. My job is actually pretty boring until there is crazy breaking news. Then I pay dearly for all my web surfing time! :rotfl: And I do know how lucky I am to have a M-F television job! I work the 3:30am shift, but it's M-F and most of the time, pesky management is arriving when I am leaving - HUGE plus! ;)

I really just wanted to win that mega millions and do whatever I want. But alas, that was not meant to be! :rotfl:

Back on topic:
I did well with the eating today. But since I wasn't so good yesterday, I am afraid of weigh in tonight. I am going to drink as much water as I can stand between now and about an hour beforehand. Oh, and I am going to go wog 5 miles too. Hopefully, that will offset a bit of the damage I've done.

Jen - how are you doing hanging in there?

Good afternoon, everyone! Sorry I haven't gotten here earlier. I had an hour drive to work in the snow (usually 12 minutes), then a 2.75 hour meeting, and have been playing catch-up ever since.
I am pleased to report that my food fest Saturday night through Sunday did not do as much damage as I feared. I was down another .8 at weigh in last night, and I will definitely take it! That puts my total to 68.4. I am determined to get that 70 pound star next Tuesday! I can't believe I am the weight I am. Still really, really obese on all the health charts, but totally as-yet unseen numbers for me.

I did get to the gym last night, though poorly fueled, and did my 30 minutes on the TM and covered 2.27 miles (the night before was 2.22, so I picked up the speed a bit and got just a bit further ahead of the Minnie sweepers).

Then I went home, scarfed down some dinner (grilled chicken, broccoli, barley) and forced myself to rise to the 100 crunch challenge. Geez, it was only the second day and I was already considering bailing out on it. Anyway, 100 crunches and 40 push-ups on the ball. Glad I did it but my midriff hurts so much today that the very thought of doing that again tonight is killing me. Then I think of those marathon photos and decide the effort will be worthwhile.

Tonight will be a non-gym night. The snow is just enough to persuade me to go home.

Food today:
B: weight watchers oatmeal
L: black bean, corn, chicken & salsa mix; apple
S: banana
D: ?????

Dave -- Thank you for your positive spirit!

Kristi - so glad the work situation is less stressful today

Maria -- great food choices. They all sound yummy! So glad you successfully navigated the visit without stress eating.

dkp -- wow, a rest day sounds to be in order, for sure! Enjoy! Glad you were strong enough not to try to squeeze in dessert!

BTW, I have been thinking of this thread a lot today. I am trying to plan a surprise 4 day Disney Cruise for DD18 and DH and me this summer while DS13 is away at performing arts camp. The menus look amazing! I am thinking I will have to spend a lot of time on the running deck in the morning to keep myself from coming back 10 pounds heavier. Of course, in the next 4 1/2 months, I hope to lose enough that I won't beat myself up over the food choices for those 4 days. ;)

I'm here... hanging on the best I can. I have followed my running plan the last two days... BONUS. Eating was doing well until today's lunch... CHINESE. Need I say more. But I will be back on track tonight. Also, I may run the crappy track tonight during DD's gymnastics. The crappy track is the downtown Y and it is 16 laps to a mile. Oh it just sucks. And lots of social walkers. So if the track is crowded, I may look for a TM instead. The cool thing is that part of the track is over the gymnastics studio so I can look down watch DD. Today should be a rest day, but out of convenience I may just run for minutes instead of miles and use tomorrow as rest.

Kristi - I am glad things are better for you today. I am not so lucky. You see, I work with family. I know in my heart what I need to do, but I need to get to the point where I can do what I should without guilt. KWIM. It is just a really tough thing right now. And DH works here also, so we have to think about our future and family also.

Cam - WOW, you are doing fabulous. I hope those crunches do you well. They better eh!! I would love to come with you on your cruise, so let me know when you are going!!! :thumbsup2

Dave: Lemme tell ya... I wish I worked with people like the WISH people. Oh the attitudes would be 100% better. Yes, everyone has their quirks and bad days... but when it's family there is too much resentment and anger. I love the WISHers!!

Jen -- That would be so amazing! We are doing the 4 day Wonder sailing on 7/22. We are heading to Orlando Friday night (SWA $49 couldn't pass it up!) and will do some relaxing on Saturday and spend quality time with DD18 at the pool and whatever she wants to do. Off to the port Sunday! We have done the 7 day Magic 3 times and absolutely LOVED it. I am hoping Jenn will enjoy being 18 on the ship and being able to go to the nightclubs and to Palo's and to the adult beach at Castaway Cay. I am actually daydreaming of running the bike path at castaway cay! :cool1: Wanna join us?

Jen - it's got to be tought working with/for family. I know I could never do it! As much as I love my parents & Chad's parents, things would go downhill really fast! Hang in there, ok?

Ok, I weighed in tonight and was down 1 lb. (in 2 weeks though). Not terrible, but not great either. I have 1.6 lbs. more to be back within Lifetime and not pay weight watchers. I really, really want that 1.6 off by next Weds. night!

Oh, and another mini reward I am giving myself...when I am back within WW Lifetime graces, I am ordering another pair of running pants from Road Runner Sports. I really could use one more pair, but am making myself earn it first. Then watch out! Cute black Nike running skirt - here I come! :)

Dave: It's no accident we call ourselves WISHers, is it? ;)

Maria: Did you say GS cookies? I love GS cookies! Okay, I'm not sure I love GS cookies as much as I remember loving them, which is pretty much the same thing. Turns out DH and I both ordered boxes from our local connection, but will be leaving them in our work breakroom. It won't stop me from having some, but it will spread the love. And I looked at your eating plan--quite a nice variety of flavors and balanced. You're doing so well.

Kristi: Glad to hear Joe turned out to be a go-to guy in this situation--having support makes a big difference, doesn't it? Plus, you've always got us! (Speaking of which, have you thought about media archives/librarian?) And you lost another pound! That combination of water, wogging, and weigh-in worked. I can see you in that new running skirt now. :thumbsup2

Cam: Again, 100 crunches??? I'm duly impressed, though, and know you can do it on a regular basis. And another week of weight loss--you'll hit the 70 lb. mark in no time! :woohoo: And I envy you your cruise! I keep trying to convince DH to take one--he's coming around, but slowly.

Jen: Your Y sounds similar to ours here--small indoor track, social walkers, limited # of TMs. But I do love all the social programs they offer the community, and I bet your DD loves gymnastics. Way to multitask and be flexible with your schedule, plus the running will help balance the Chinese food.

As for me, I'd planned on doing my C25K today, a day earlier than my schedule. But I ran behind schedule all day, including meals, and didn't get to the gym until the after-work crowd had arrived and no TMs were available. Long story short, I ended up substituting time on the elliptical for my workout and will do my C25K tomorrow, when I have a little more control over my schedule.

Speaking of control, have I told you part of my sneaky plan for several of my DL meals? We've made priority seating (ADRs) for several restaurants that specialize in meat/seafood. I'm a vegetarian, so the restaurant food won't be of importance to me--I'm not generally impressed by the vegetarian options in such places. (How much pasta can one vegetarian eat?) This strategy will hopefully make it easier for me to choose the healthy soup/salad option. It works here in town, so I'm hoping it will work at DL, too. And we'll be eating breakfast in-room most of the time, too, as I'm not much of a morning person. Of course, this is not to say that I'm not going to enjoy what I eat--I do have plans to sample the infamous Monte Cristo cheese sandwich! Moderation, moderation, moderation. If I say it often enough I just might live it.

B: Cereal, Banana, Apple Juice
L: Nutrigrain Yogurt Bar (okay, it wasn't really lunch, but it was lunchtime)
L: PB&J on wheat, carrots, yogurt (the real lunch)
D: Salad, Red Beans and Rice, orange
D: Meh. If I'm hungry, it'll be a rice cake and some frozen grapes

dkp -- Good plan, but may I tell you something? Not that you asked me or anything, but just don't get your heart set on the monte christo sandwich being the be-all-and-end-all. I very smartly persuaded DH and DS NOT to both order the famous MC sandwich, so that they could both try something different and they could share. They were very grateful for that advice. I will leave it at that. Maybe your family could order that as an appetizer for everyone to share? :lmao: Maybe someone else will chime in telling you it is the best food on planet earth! ;)

Oh, Cam, you're killing me!! Is this going to be a Dole Whip moment for me? :rotfl2:

People on the DL boards have been raving about this sandwich and I thought, "How good can it be?" :confused3 But I thought I'd give it a try. I really like your suggestion to split it as an appetizer--that way I can have the taste(y?) experience & still get something healthier for me.

And...if you have any other insider tips on DLR food, let me know!

Well since you asked (he he) not wise to get me started.

When you get your salad, get the dressing on the side. Then stick your fork in the dressing and then get some salad. You will use very little dressing but have the taste in every bite.

Get your salad made the way you want it. In my case extra tomatos and no crutons (Fried bread).

A plain baked potato makes a great snack, get it plain with a a little BBQ or hot sauce and some salt and pepper to taste.

Dave:)

Cam - I would LOVE to go. We may try to plan a quicky trip to WDW either this summer or in October during a 2 day school break. We can't wait to go on a cruise, but have been holding off until the kids get a little older. Kate turns 4 next month, so I guess now we can start considering it.

dkp - DL food does not appeal to me at all. The offerings are nothing like are WDW. I have been to DL twice and disappointed both times in the food. There just aren't as many places to choose from. We ended up eating at Dowtown Disney or off site more often. Just my opinion tho.

Kristi - That sounds like a great goal. I am waiting to until I get to my 20 pounds down since the marathon, then I get to go shopping. I really need new summer clothes, so I hope it happens before then. BUT, I gained 5 pounds last week at the retreat. I know some is water weight, but I always gain the week before TOM. So I am praying that next week the scale goes back down. It is so depressing.

Hey guys, how about a big high five to start the day!!!

This is going be your year, you are grace and beauty. You are gonna accomplish more than you ever dreamed. Spread your wings dear WISH team mates your time to soar is coming soon.

You had a bit of rest during the winter cold and spring will find you stronger and ready for a new level. All you have to do is believe.

Look in the mirror today and tell that good looking person looking back at you, "You are sooooooo worth the effort, I won't let you down".

Have an amazing day guys.:yay:

Hi!

I have meetings tomorrow so I won't be at work. That means this is my last post until Monday. On the bright side, dh just ordered our new computer. It should take about a week, then he has to get his work software loaded, and then, I can get back to being online the way I want to be!

Today I'll be on the TM. I decided to go up from 30 to 35 minutes for my two shorter run days. I have also slowed down quite a bit from my killer pace, so I can breathe and I'm not getting sore. It feels great to move, and I look forward to my runs.

I know I am still not focusing properly on my eating. I just can't seem to get my head in the right place. I make great food plans, and then I get sidetracked. I need to come up with strategies to get around that.

Dave-- You always have such great words of encouragement. Thanks for my daily smile! :goodvibes

Jen-- I'm with you on the shopping. Clothes are a great motivator for me to do what I need to!:thumbsup2 I think you have a very difficult work situation. You can't exactly complain about your co-workers at home!

dkp -- I admire your restraint to share the GS cookies. The best I can do is put them in the freezer...:rotfl2: Thanks for the encouragement. It is hard when I look in the mirror and I don't see Heidi Klum's body looking back at me. :rotfl:

Cam-- You are going to have a wonderful time on your cruise! I highly recommend the "mud room"...

Kristi -- Especially when you consider all the stress you have been under at work and home, you are doing great! I know you have a doable goal, and you are going to reach it. You're going to look awesome in the new duds! :cool1:

Everybody have a wonderful weekend! I'm looking forward to catching up on Monday!

Maria

Hi, everyone! Food went pretty well last night. I stir fried 2 pounds of broccoli, a bag of sugar snap peas, half a bag of baby carrots, and a huge onion. When it was all done, I added shrimp to it. I also made whole wheat pasta and mixed that in with the stir fry. It was delicious. I was so hungry last night and actually ate some blackbean/corn/salsa/grilled chicken mix while I was cooking. Otherwise, I'd have raided the cabinet. I've noticed that since I moved the balance ball downstairs for my daily crunches and push-ups, I tend to snack later in the evening. So, the ball goes back upstairs tonight. I'll retire to my room with a bottle of water and a good book for when I am done my 100 crunches and (now) 50 push-ups.

Dave-- Thank you for your kind words. You sound so much like the dear wonderful sweet man I am married to. I appreciate that you take the time to post here.

dkp -- I am with Jen on this one. I didn't find a whole lot of meals that I was crazy about at DL. We really liked our dinner at Storytellers Cafe in the Grand Californian Hotel (you can enter from California Adventure or DTD, I believe) and the Taste Pilots Grill in California Adventure. I think we got fruit and bagels at the bakery in Disneyland. At the Blue Bayou I had the jambalaya which was my second favorite meal of the trip -- not a choice for a vegetarian or vegan, though. It was soooooo spicy. Delicious!

Food today:
B: fat free cheese on no-fat butter sprayed whole wheat light toast; coffee w/skim milk
L: garden salad w/fat free raspberry vinegarette dressing; leftover stir-fry
snacks: 2 bananas (no apple today -- :sad1: )
D: grilled chicken with barley & veggies in chicken broth, I think.

I havent been on this thread in a looooooong while. I have gotten back to eating healthy again. Also Curves will be weighing & measuring me each month. I am determined to look better in my Minnie race photos this year!!!

Dave-I love your posts you are so inpirational. And you must have a ton of energy!:thumbsup2

Cam-that is so cool doing a trip with Jen. We are going on the 7 day in Oct during fall break. It will be Seth's first cruise & he is so excited! Parker just cant wait to be able to get that "free" pizza by the pool whenever he wants. Mom just booked for them to come with us too:yay:

Have a great day everyone! Keep on, keepin on :cheer2:

Good morning WISH Team.

What a wonderful day it is today. The sun is already shining bright and the weather is headed to 60 degrees. Thank you weather possum. (weather possum replaced the darn groundhog who was just screwing up the weather).

Cam, wow, 100 crunches and 50 push-ups.

Today when you are working out, take a deep breath and feel that beast inside. There is a part of all of us that is not completely tame, let that spirit loose while you are working out.

Have a great day everyone.

Dave:hippie:

Tiff - Cam and I aren't cruising together... unfortunately. I just told her I would love to go with her. Welcome back to our tread.

Maybe we should plan a WISH cruise. That would be cool!

Yesterday was my rest day, so last night I went to Sparkpeople and found some Balance Ball exercises (thanks Cam). I printed them out and plan to do them tonight for cross training. I just know my abs will hurt after this!!! Oh and I am down 2 of the 5 that I gained from the retreat. I am sure after next week I will be down the rest. I hate setbacks like that.

Have a great day all!!

Erica and I wanna do a WISH cruise. We have never done a cruise and a WISH cruise sounds wonderful.
