Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Sour dough bread! No sugar!! It uses natural yeasts to rise. If it has sugar, it's not real sour dough.

This is the best news I've heard in a long time. I LOVE sour dough bread. If I can satisfy my bread craving and not be bad, then that's a win for me!

Vicky
- I think more fuel/sugar is a good idea. I do gels every 5 miles on my LR's, but then I'm a lot slower so that usually works out to about once an hour. When I'm racing, I actually try for every 4 miles. Apparently last weekend was hill weekend. Time for a flat course for all of us. That's why I'm running at the beach this weekend!

Cindy
- Yeah, I'm not so good at giving up the cookies if they're in the house. I have absolutely no will power. As long as I can avoid something, I'm fine, but put it front of me, and it's history.

We're debating right now about going to a local running store who's sponsoring a Mardi Gras run tonight. Homemade pralines, cheese grits, and beer afterwards. (Okay, I'm pretty sure those are NOT on our healthy foods list, but they're FREE!) Only problem is it's raining right now, and DH is having a hard time justifying driving across town to run in the rain. I'm voting in favor of going just so we'll have to run.

Jackie

Vicky: Sorry to hear about the upset stomach.....I hate that! Your run sounds like mine last week. So many hills.....who is crazy enough to get a LR and a hilly workout in at the same time? Us! My course last week was very hilly.....we ended up short .9, but the hills made up for it! I am to do 14 miles this week.....I am not sure how that is going to work. It's snowing again, and we are supposed to get another 10 to 12 inches. We don't have any more room for snow around here! I will not be able to run outside this week. 14 miles is an awful long way on the TM, but I will probably won't have another choice! Ugh!

Jackie: I would run in the rain for free food! That's saying something......I hate rain! I guess those feeling are because I still need to make supper, and don't feel like it!

AFM: I made it to work today, but still feeling crummy. The cough and sore throat is annoying, but now my head hurts really bad from the cough. I didn't work out yesterday or today (yet) but I think I need the days off.....I hate to go there though. I really wish I could get it done tonight, but I don't think I have it in me. I am getting wheezey just getting up and around!

Eating has been really bad......of course I haven't lost my appetite with the cold! Can't wait to feel better!

Beth

Just checking to say "hi"! I had the bride and groom here all weekend and we were super busy planning things. Thank goodness everyone is watching their weight so there was very little temptation. We even passed up the obligatory visit to BoJangles! Of course last night was another story....we had the food tasting for the wedding so that meant we had to try a little bit of everything. It was so good ...and something that needed to be done.....but now I am paying the price: my little Wii gained almost 2 pounds today! Hopefully I got rid of some of it at this morning's spin class. What can I say...every day is another opportunity for a fresh start.

Beth, Vicky, Connie: feel better soon!

Hey Ladies!

I'm recovered from my own little viral stomach bug -- I got on the TM Monday AM, did 1M, and then started sweating profusely and was nauseous...and it got worse from there. I am happy to say I feel 100% better now, and with a 1M workout yesterday, I consider the streak intact -- since I plan to do weights while I watch BL tonight! DH also had symptoms, but not as bad as mine. Luckily it seems to have passed over ds.

Jeanne -- You are making me want to Wii! :goodvibes I have got to get that added into my rotation. Well, I will have time tomorrow afternoon...we just got a call ds's school is closing at 12:30 with no afterschool, so Momma is going to be at home! I was hoping for the entire day off, but I'll take a half day. I didn't go in Monday and I worked a half day today, so I guess I'm kind of easing back into work.

Beth -- I know how hard it is on you not to work out -- but it sounds like your body just said "No!". Once you are rested and better, you are going to feel like tackling the world! pirate:

Jackie -- Take pity on me -- what exactly is a praline? It sounds like it's worth a 5K in the rain! popcorn::

Vicky -- If you figure out what's going on with "Lost", will you let me in on it? I found it very confusing. I'm ready for more answers, 'cause all I really have are more questions! :rotfl:

Connie -- I do enjoy sourdough bread...we've been buying those Arnold sandwich thins, which I'm sure are not good for us, but low in points...why does it have to be so hard to eat?! :confused3

Cindy -- I am ready for the snow! I have chili and cornbread (I know, sugar...) ready to go. I have a priority list of items to do at work before I leave at noon.

Corinna -- Just wanted to say thanks for making the Mixer happen. I love this week's question about songs, I always find something I don't even know I'm missing, but I really want! :music: I'm sure all this snow isn't helping with getting the Princess training going, but you have such a good base, I know you will be ready to go! princess:

Debra -- Please tell us your not buried in a snow drift! :cold: I think there should be a "snowmaggedon" smilie!

Manda -- Are you enjoying that new bedroom? :cloud9:

Ok, I'm going to finish getting ready for tomorrow. I am totally psyched to do weights during BL tonight!

Maria :upsidedow

Maria - A praline is caramelized sugar with some sort of nut in it - usually pecans. No calories at all! And we won't even mention the sugar content...

We did go to the run. The rain stopped, mercifully, for a couple of hours so we were able to stay dry. Ran the 3 mile option (complete with Mardi Gras beads) and came back to the store and indulged with a cup (probably 4 oz) of beer (Abita Purple Haze), 2 pralines, and a bowl of homemade cheese grits. (I didn't add the sausage and extra cheese.) :thumbsup2 Yum! Worth every mile that we had to drive to get there! This is the first run we've done from this store, and they do a great job of hosting. I'm pretty sure we'll go back for more. The Mizuno truck was there and allowing people to test run their shoes, but since I'm already wearing Mizunos I didn't take advantage of that offer.

Then we went next door to Whole Foods and ate dinner from their hot food bar. I'm pretty sure this was my healthiest meal of the week!

Jackie

Hello, my gorgeous Lean Ones! :goodvibes I'm sorry I've been mostly offline. It's been a whirlwind of a time here--or should I say blizzard? :rotfl2:

I've not caught up on all the posts, or read them carefully, but just a couple of things:

  • Congrats on making progress on the weight loss to those that have! Yay, Vicky! And double-yay Corinna for reclaiming the hotness of college.
  • Whoo hoo for the great workouts, everyone! Good running, as usual, and I'm jealous of everyone who's running regularly at this point! WTG, Jackie with your 5K time. You rock! :yay:
  • I'm looking forward to hearing more about PX90, Beth, and have tentative plans to find an eBay copy (thanks for the suggestion) and start it in the spring. (Build up to the upper-body demands--as I have not strength--by shoveling snow. :rolleyes1) Someday I'll try Corinna's Body Pump (our class at the gym is waaaaaay early, though.)
  • Beth, I'm counting the snow shovel as part of my daily cardio, esp. on days when it's too dangerous to go to the gym.
  • I'm hoping everyone who's sick is feeling better: Beth, Connie, Maria, and esp. Cindy. Cindy, I'm glad to learn you're feeling even a little better, that the dr. listened to you & the medicine helps (along with your WO).
  • I need to learn more about making tea & REALLY concentrate on cutting back on the sugar. Connie's post scared me. :scared1: But....birdseed? :confused3:rotfl2: I'll be switching to sourdough bread for most meals. Thanks for all the info, truly!
  • I wanna Wii, Jeanne and Jackie, but it's just another thing that would distract me while I try to work at home. :upsidedow It might be worth the laughs it would give DOOD, though.
  • Steel-cut oatmeal, anyone? It's the best!
  • Manda & Rubato, I hope you're doing okay!

I'll try to keep up better in the following days, but the rest of the post is about me, I'm afraid. :upsidedow We're doing okay, no worries. Like the rest of the area, we got hit with about 2 feet of snow. We're lucky that we have power & heat, as many do not. Internet connections are intermittent right now, so I've been focusing mostly on keeping up with work things & my brother who's stuck in MD. Things are improving, though, with only another 4 inches expected after last night's 4.

DOOD and I have spent 2-3 hours every day (each of us) shoveling out our apartment building and those of our elderly neighbors. We've also shoveled out neighbors' cars and helped push out those that got stuck. Today I'll be doing a grocery run for neighbors who can't get out (well, shuffle to the store that's in walkable distance). A real coming-together of most of the Pittsburgh community. (Well, except for two neighbors who have yelled at me, but I'm not going to dwell on their negativity.)

I haven't managed to run since Thursday and most of my workouts have been snow shoveling & WO DVDs. We have been to the gym--walked the three miles there (took an hour)--but then didn't have the energy/motivation to run on the TM. :rotfl2: so did weights briefly, etc.--before walking back. Turns out walking uphill in the uncleared snow and slush is a little like running on sand. :rolleyes1

To Vicky and Cindy and all who experience this weather on a regular basis (or those who have been getting the same blizzards, like Beth, Maria and Cindy), :worship:

So, I've done some kind of physical activity every day, but am antsy to get to the gym for a real workout. Maybe even run on a TM. Right now, though, it's kind of treacherous to be out on the roads, esp. with the Pgh. hills & ice. (And the city is not able to keep up with the demands for non-emergencies, understandably enough.) So snow shoveling and local errands will have to do.

Weight-wise, I've lost only another 1/2 pound, so 4/5 lbs (80%) of the first 5. I would have thought I'd burned more calories with the daily snow shoveling, but I've also been inside more and eating more winter comfort foods. (Grilled cheese and tomato soup, for example.) Plus, the university is closed for an entire week because of power & water issues, so DOOD is underfoot. :lmao:

But I'm truly happy to have everything in my area as stable as it is and to still be able to walk to the grocery--outlying regions are bad. So no complaints. I just miss you! :yay:

Vicky: Sorry for the headache on Saturday. Never fun.

Jeanne: Glad you got the Wii set up. I don’t get on mine as often as I should, but it is fun.

Beth: Sorry you are feeling sick! No fun at all, especially on the weekend.

Maria: You can totally count yoga! Way to go on the streak. Very impressed. Funny about what not to wear. I was this close to being on that show. They even came and taped me in an ambush one day. My sister set it up (I don’t know whether to thank her or be upset) but I must have either been too good or too bad, because they never heard back (that is why they could tell me).

Connie: Sorry you are sick. It must be going around everywhere! - those are some scary numbers! I guess I won’t be getting a twix bar now 

Corinna: congrats on the graduation dress. See me, I was out of shape when I graduated from college (not that long ago) but I have some cute clothes from 3 years ago when I was in shape that I keep around to torture myself with.

Jackie: congrats on the 10 miles. I haven’t doen our taxes yet, waiting until after this weekend, when I will have more time (haha). J

Everyone I missed (and I know there are some, but I am out of time to play on WISH): Keep it up and thanks for the encouragement.

AFM: I have been trying to take it easy this week to make sure I don’t hurt myself before my half marathon on Sunday. So I have put a couple miles a day in on the treadmill to keep in my legs going, but I am trying hard to not hurt my knees. I will pack Thursday night and then we will head out right after work on Friday. 6 hours of driving Friday, another 4 on Saturday, the race on Sunday and then 11 hours home on Monday (with hopefully some stops to stretch my legs or I will be so sore on Tuesday!)

Hi Lean ladies! Just a quick drive by for me today...

Manda - Good luck on your half this weekend! Make sure you keep yourself hydrated the next few days. The stretching during breaks on your road trip sounds like a good idea. I usually try and get some in at an outlet mall  We don't have them in Canada so I love going shopping when I get a chance.

Debra - Congrats on reaching your 80% mark! That's fantastic that you and DOOD are helping neighbours out with the snow shovelling. That stuff can be tough when you're older or have back problems. But hooray for snow day or week? I haven't had one of those since high school but maybe now that just means more work piling up? Here's hoping all the white stuff leaves as quickly as it arrived.

Jackie - Sounds like a fun 5K, especially with all that tasty food afterward! Whenever I go to Whole Foods, I always end up with sweets and cheese. Maybe I somehow convince myself that it's healthy :upsidedow Which beach are you going to this weekend? I want to come! I'm tired of the snow :)

Maria - Glad to hear you're feeling better! I watched the first half of BL last night then switched over to Lost. I haven't been able to figure much out either. I'm just as "Lost" as you are - ok bad joke :cutie: But seriously, don't the writers know they only have a limited number of episodes left and we want answers!!

Jeanne - Was there anything interesting at the tasting? Forgot to ask, when is the wedding?

Beth - I think my DF said the same thing to me "Why would you do hills and a LR together?" It didn't seem like a bad idea at the time... And most of the hills weren't that steep. How's your throat doing today? When I have a sore throat, I make a drink of hot water, honey and lemon wedges. The honey is good for soothing your throat and the lemon gives you a little bit extra vitamin C.

AFM - Well, I didn't make it out for a run this morning. We had a little bit of snow and I feel like a wimp considering how much snow everyone else got. But I didn't want to slip. The next two days are suppose to be sunny so hopefully most of the white stuff will melt by Saturday. Fingers crossed!

I weighed myself yesterday and I'm down another 0.7 lbs! Hooray! That puts me up there with Debra at the 80% mark. So just another 0.6 lbs and I'll be back to my October weight.

Anyone have exciting plans for Valentine's Day?

Blizzard anyone? I have plenty of snow to share, if anyone wants any. No kidding....we are well over 2 feet of the stuff. I don't think we'll get out tomorrow even. Snow week instead of snow day!

I have spent the day cleaning and re-doing the boys room. A task I have put off for a long time. I have done a quick cleaning several times, but not a
'move the furniture' kind of clean for a long time. I have about 10 bags of garbage to throw away! Crap accumulates, I'll tell you. Their book shelf still had their 'little kids' books on it. I have two big tubs of used books to get rid off. The stuffed animals have been weeded through, and there is 4 bags of them to donate somewhere. Wow, they had a lot of crap!

Manda: Good luck with the 1/2!

Debra: Nice job getting any workout in! I had the last two days off with my cold. I will get on the TM today though.....I need to burn some of these calories I have stuffed in my face! (my dh was nice enough to bring home chocolate covered pretzels for our snow day!)

I hope you get dug out soon! I wish you could run to the store for me!

Shout out to the remaining Lean Ladies!

Beth

Connie: Most breads need some sugar for the yeast to work.....I think the yeast 'burns' the sugar out.....at least the homemade breads I make don't take that much sugar, but I am sure the processed breads have much more!

Debra: I had to hold up on the P90X for the week. Not happily, but I was too sick to get it done. I am slowly getting better, but my throat continues to be sore. I do have to say that the the chin up bar I got for over my door frame is working out well. It's solid, and my door frame seems to be hanging in there...
I do think the P90X is worth it...especially if you can find it on eBay.

AFM: So, I got my LR in yesterday........yes, I did 13 miles on the TM. It took me 2:25, and it was boring! I did watch a Netflix movie for the first part.....I think it was called Quarantine.....it was a pretty horror flick, but it wasn't winning any Academy awards! It did have the sister from Dexter, who I love, so it wasn't to bad to watch!

I need to get the eating under control. This snow storm has caused complete havoc with my diet. What about Snow Day that leads to crappy eating? I don't know, but I have been living it for a week!

Beth

Good Morning, Leanies!

I have kept my streak going by the skin of my teeth -- with BL workouts and weights. I need to get back on the TM, so that's my priority this weekend. We have a week of school vacation starting Monday, so I've got a couple of days home with ds (dh and I split them). This means there are no excuses for not doing all the working out I intend to do. I'm looking at this week this way -- I didn't do my TM stuff, and I started out the week not well. But, I did get the weights and Wii core workouts going, so now I'm going to add back in the TM, and then I will be at my goal of 1.5 hrs a day. I just have to do it ;) Did I mention my stomach is so sore?!

TOM just showed up, and I think I'm going to skip the scale because I literally saw the bloating appear. Now you don't see it, now you do!

DS is going to spend the weekend with his auntie and uncle, so dh and I can actually have a real Valentine's date. He already told me he wasn't planning anything big, so I'm expecting a night in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine. Actually, that works just fine for me.

Beth -- Snow storms definitely make me eat more. I think it's probably biological -- our ancestors wouldn't have made it if they didn't eat what they could when it started snowing, so now we have to fight our basic instincts since food is always readily available. I'm glad you got your LR in, but sorry it wasn't fun! One of our activities for Feb. vacation week is to go through ds's closet and drawers and get rid of everything that's too small. We should have a nice haul for the Salvation Army. :thumbsup2 I'm also going to take him to see The Lightning Thief, and dh is taking him and buddies snowtubing. We haven't figured out what else may go on, but he definitely won't just be sitting at home bored.

Vicky -- I finally watched Lost last night. I just can't see William Mapother as a good guy, no matter what. And I find the "others" confusing...Actually, I find the entire thing confusing. I felt bad for Sawyer, though. I'm ready for more answers and no more new questions! :goodvibes

Manda -- A brush with celebrity! Did this make you want to change your wardrobe? I think I would be paranoid every time I got dressed after that...I mentioned to my husband that I had made a special effort to look "put together" this week going to work, and he hadn't even noticed. He told me I, "always look put together, was there a difference?" I meant I had layers, and jewelry, and really thought about my outfits, and extra time on my makeup -- but I guess I must not be too scary on a normal week, since he didn't even notice...:confused3

Debra -- 80% of your first goal is awesome! At your weight, it is really hard to lose, you should be very proud of yourself! :dance3: And you are doing a great service for your neighbors -- very Ohana! :thumbsup2

Jackie -- Oh yes, pralines definitely sound worth a 5K! ::yes::

Cindy -- How are you feeling?

Jeanne -- I did the Wii BL and Wii Plus, and I got one heck of a core workout! I didn't realize I have approximately zero core strength. Definitely something I'm going to work on!

Corinna -- How are you feeling about your Princess training? I should note to the other Leanies -- Corinna is one of 2 people in the BL challenge who is in maintenance mode! :woohoo: I am in awe!

Ok, gotta get to my actual work.

Everyone have an awesome weekend! :cheer2:

Maria :upsidedow

Hi everyone. I just spent the last 30 minutes, or so it seems, trying to catch up on everyone. I haven't been able to get on much lately. Sorry! It sounds like sickness and snow are hitting everyone,us included.

I have been having a rough time with motivation. I don't know if it's the winter blahs or what, but I just want to curl up with a book, a box of cookies, and a blanket and lay around in my "fat" clothes. Seriously, it's bad. My half is 8 weeks away. I'm supposed to run 5 miles tomorrow, and really don't want to. I've gained back the few pounds I managed to lose, so I'm back up to needing to lose 10. Not a big deal, but it feels like I've been carrying this 10 around my whole life! I wanted to go into my first race at my ideal weight, and getting an amazing time. I ran 3 today and that hurt. I think I need to just get off my butt and do it! It would certainly help if it was warmer. And, if these silly neighbors of mine would clear their sidewalks. You
know who you are people!;)

Anyway, enough of that. I just wanted to say hi to everybody. I'm sure you have all gone through this before, and, hopefully, will have some advice or encouragement!:)

Beth - 13 miles on the TM is no joke. I did 10 on the TM yesterday as well, and it was all I could stand. I tried to watch PoC Dead Man's Chest, as I had never seen it before, but it was not something I could really tolerate on the TM. It did not seem as good as the first one, somehow. Great job getting those miles in, though - it is NOT easy this time of year or with all the snow to contend with.

This YMCA Fit Club doesn't seem to be helping my brainspace either, though I LOVE some of the other ladies in the class. Yesterday the instructor was talking about eating out. She tells us, in the same lecture that she tells her clients they can have "two bad meals a week" and then she goes on to say how when we eat out, we should skip the baked potato. Man, I love baked potatoes. Not slathered with butter or sour cream either. We aren't talking about fries or au gratin or even mashed here!!!

Good Morning, Leanies!
Corinna -- How are you feeling about your Princess training? I should note to the other Leanies -- Corinna is one of 2 people in the BL challenge who is in maintenance mode! :woohoo: I am in awe!

Way to go on continuing your streak! Now...go put some clothes on, young lady!

I'm not sure you should be bragging on me so much - I'm just struggling along with the maintenance. Holding on by the skin of my teeth, this week, and I don't actually know why! Food: good. Activity: less running, more shoveling, but still good. Rest: DH has been out of town this week and so it's been early to bed, early to rise (or at least earlier, since he's not being a night-owl-bad-influence, wanting me to stay up to watch Big Love, for instance! Just gotta keep on keeping on. I have set my points back down to losing instead of maintaining, but that doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. :sad2:

I have been having a rough time with motivation. I don't know if it's the winter blahs or what, but I just want to curl up with a book, a box of cookies, and a blanket and lay around in my "fat" clothes. Seriously, it's bad. I think most of us have been there. This is a gloomy, depressing time of year and our urge is to snuggle up and hunker down and save our energy. When the inertia seems like too much for me, I like to make a short checklist of things I need to do each day or most days - track food, work out, drink water, health-reading.

It can also be hard to get pumped about working out when conditions are less than ideal. Imagine how awesome it is going to be at your first race, though. Every mile you run now, it's doing yourself a favor on race day.

manda and Debra - My weight fluctuated madly in college. I arrived pretty small, gained some, lost some, gained a LOT, then senior year, lost 60 pounds (yes, pretty much the same ones I just lost again :rolleyes1) and I still have a couple of things from that time. Graduation dress, groom's dinner dress (it's a short, red dress with a chinese collar - cute but I'm not sure why I picked that for the groom's dinner! Might have been by request of the groom, I suppose...) and wedding dress, of course. I actually got under 130 in the spring of 1996, but even then I considered the low 130's to be my "normal, maintainable" weight. Not that I stayed in them long. I think I moved up to the low 140's pretty quickly and stayed in that neighborhood until I was PG with my first ginormous son. :)

AFM - I've had a rib slightly out of joint all week. I finally got that fixed today and am feeling MUCH better. I did the BL Yoga DVD yesterday - and once again, I'm feeling it here and there in my core today. I also got to try a pilates reformer machine yesterday. I am thinking of signing up for a few sessions on that thing. It's pretty cool. Princess training is being phoned in, for the most part. We have not had new snow in 2 days!

I am doing a Valentine's Day 5K tomorrow - it's supposed to be 17º with possible light flurries, so that doesn't sound too bad!

I am ready for winter to be over! I am again looking at my TM.....sort of hoping to do 8 miles.....but after the 13 on Thursday, I am not so sure!

The boys are going to baseball tryouts, so the time is approaching to get my game face on! Sometimes it's just hard to get started. I didn't run yesterday. I just did my P90X (chest/back). It was difficult to get done, since my arms were very sore from shoveling snow all week. I am still battling this cold, so I am trying not to overdo. I am sticking to one workout a day for now. Hopefully by Monday, I can get back to 2 workouts a day.

My friend Heidi got to run outside today.....I am envious. I can't around where I live.....to many cars to battle. I am alot safer staying inside since there is still too much snow!

I hope all the Lean Ladies are having a nice weekend!

Beth

Just so you all know what you've done to me...

I had a much larger dinner Thursday night than I knew I should have, but I felt like I needed some protein before our half marathon on Saturday. Friday, DH wanted to have lunch at McDonald's on the way down. NOTHING healthy there. I won't even admit what I ate. And I ate ALL of it. Then when we got to Myrtle Beach I had 2 beers at the Expo. They were free. I had to. We went to dinner at the wrong restaurant - nothing on the menu seemed to work for the night before a race, and I ended up eating very little but still feeling really, really bloated.

Then they canceled the race.

I learned this about 1:00am, and somewhere between then and 6:00am I dreamed that I got on the scale and had gained 20 pounds. Guilt, anyone? So when one of my friends called and asked me if I wanted to run I almost screamed into the phone "YES!" As it turned out, almost all the runners ran some or all of the course, so it was really cool to be out on the streets with everyone. But I felt much better about my dream! Tomorrow morning I'll actually venture onto the scale and see what the real damage is...

And I just want to say... I HATE SNOW! (That's for everyone, by the way. This is the most ridiculous winter. Don't they know we need to run?)

Jackie

Good morning Lean Ones! Another Monday morning.....with a forcast of SNOW today. Ugh......I don't think I can take any more. My kids have not been to school for a week! ((((they need to go to school, for my sake!)))))

Jackie: Sorry to hear about the race.....why did they cancel it? Weather? I hear ya with the junky eating. I have been in that trap for a week now....I am hoping today can turn it all around!

Debra: I hear the snow coming today is coming from your direction.....do ya think you can keep it all there for me? Please? I hope you are all dug out from last week!

AFM: I had to take a total of 3 days off of running last week......2 of those days saw no exercise at all! I still managed to get over 30 miles done though. ((((it helped having done 13 miles on Thursday!!)))))

I did get up today and ran 5.....they were not stellar miles, but got done. I am hoping to get my P90X done tonight. I am going to repeat week 3....since last week was pretty much a bust.

I am hoping to clean up my eating today......last week was bad! I didn't hop on the scale today.....I don't want to know the damage yet!

Beth

Beth - Canceled due to SNOW, what else? Myrtle Beach only had 3.5 inches, but the city wasn't taking any chances. We probably would have been fine, but I understand that they had to make the call on the cautious side, and apparently a good portion of the course is on a major highway where they only close one lane, and they were concerned about volunteers and runners being that close to cars and slushy conditions. For those of us who were just running it as a "fun" half, it's not so bad, but I know there were people looking to BQ with this one, and that's a tough break. And I talked to a man as we were leaving, and it would have been his wife's first half, and that would just hurt!

Good news! After all my bad choices over the weekend, I got on the scale this morning and was down .2 from before I left! (That finally puts me at over 50% of the first 5 pound chunk, Debra. I'm slow, but I'm getting there.)

Bad news - DH just called with some not-at-all-good news, so I now have to reconsider my race calendar for the rest of the year. Must go work on that now...

Jackie

Jackie- I'm glad to hear that your weekend eating didn't do you in. I'm sure you got some decent miles in in place of your race. I hope everything's okay with hubbys news. :confused:You've got me a little worries.

Beth- I'm sorry to hear you are snowed in again. I'm so sick of this! I'm very impressed with the 13 miles on the treadmill. Wow! I've done 8 before, but couldn't stand it after that! It sounds like you're doing good in spite of the weather and being sick. Good for you!

Corrina- I hope your race went well. Did you freeze? I love pilates and have always wanted to try a reformer. Lucky you! How did it compare to just floor pilates?
And, thanks for the encouragement! I think I'm getting over my funk!

AFM-I ran my slowest run in years, and I'm actually excited about it! Why? Because it was a wind chill of 5 and it was on ice with a dusting of snow. I was just impressed that I got out there! I'm still doing my 10 week training program (which I got off of marathonrookie, for whoever it was that asked), and want to make sure to stay on track, pun intended! The weather is obviously not going to get any better, so I need to adjust. If I have to run slower in order to not crash and burn, oh well. I get the added benefit of a core workout trying to keep my balance.

So, I ran 4 days last week, took 3 zumba classes (I am addicted), but ate poorly. At least I'll be healthy, even if I'm not at my goal weight! The best news of all is that my hubby gave up on my treadmill and called the repairman. He's coming next week to replace the walking belt and the motor belt. I am so happy! It's going to be like seeing a long, lost friend when I finally get to run on it!

Good Afternoon, Lovely Leanies!

The streak ended yesterday, but I've already started a new one today! This time, I'll be wearing enough to keep going for the long haul ;) I'm not even sure why it ended, I just kept having things to do, and before I knew it it was 11:30 and I was up 2 hours past my bedtime, exercise was not happening...

Anyway, I did an hour of brisk walking this AM -- laps around my office. I was the only one here, so I figured why not? I still have plenty of time to get done what I needed to, and without any distractions, so I decided to go for it. ;)

Rubato -- I am so impressed you got out there, too! Way past my threshold for :cold: I'm glad you're getting the TM repaired. I feel lost when mine needs service, I understand your pain!

Jackie -- Great news on the scale! TOM is kicking me, and I had a gain I'm not discussing. I will be applying myself so I get back to where I should be by next weekend. pirate: I'm so sorry your race was cancelled. That just stinks.

Beth -- We're supposed to get snow tomorrow, but the kids are out of school anyway, so no one is very excited. I have the day off with ds, we'll stay in and work on his monster research report on Georgia. By "monster" I mean size, he has 30 pages of info to gather. We have no idea when this is due, it's just assigned as homework every night, along with the other homework. :confused3

Corinna -- How's the rib? I can't think of plain baked potatoes as a bad choice. Not something I'd have every day, but way better than fried or sauced! ::yes::

Debra -- Are you still covered in snow? It sounds like you should just refuse the next batch that appears. :rotfl:

Vicky -- Congratulations on Canada's first Olympic gold medal on home soil! DS and I cheered when we saw him win! :cheer2:

:wave2: to Manda, Jeanne, Cindy, Connie, Wendy!

How was everyone's Valentine's Day? We had a quiet Saturday with ds in NH, so we ran 6M Saturday morning and then did errands. We went to Harvard Square in Cambridge to hang out in the afternoon. I've never been there, so it was interesting to see all the shops and college students. We went to dinner at the Chart House restaurant on Long Wharf, which used to be a John Hancock's offices and dates back to the 1760's. Needless to say, my chief accomplishment was skipping dessert -- I had crab stuffed mushrooms followed by parmesan crusted shrimp with angel hair pasta topped with fresh crab. I'm considering that the last big blow out -- before Fat Tuesday's pancake dinner :rolleyes1 We ended our evening with relaxing by the fireplace. It was a very pleasant day.

I hope all the Americans are enjoying a great day without work (well, except for the few like me who chose to [or had to] work today). Since DH works for the govt., he has the day off. It's Feb vacation week, no school for the kidlets. I'll be off with ds tomorrow and Wednesday, he'll have him Thursday, and we split Friday. I'm making it a short day, I'll leave at 2, so not a heavy lift for me.

Hello all,

Just a few quick posts. I was running around interviewing florists all day and now have to do my "real" work.

Vicky: you asked about the wedding date.....it is 5/30....the Sunday of memorial day weekend.

Jackie: so sorry about the race. Quite a bummer considering you had to incur travel expenses. At least you got to savor McDonald's and 2 beers without any weight gain.....that alone may be worth it! Hope all is well with you guys and Bill's bad news was nothing serious.

Deb: what a kind and generous neighbor you are, working hard to shovel everyone else's snow.....you definitely deserve 2 beers and a (veggie) Big Mac!

Maria: what program do you use on the Wii for your core workout? I'm pretty much just into the fitness games! :rolleyes1

AFM, I have to stop beating myself up over weight variations on my Wii. Since my bathroom scale is about 40 years old (hence, nondigital) I have been using my daily fit test as an accurate scale. Sometimes I'm down, sometimes I'm up, but overall it hasn't changed much at all. Well today I took my weight and it was down a little so I was happy. I started my fitness test and the phone rang so I had to get off. Not more than 2 minutes later I got back on and it took my weight again. It was 1.9 lbs higher! That makes no sense whatsoever. Now I don't know what to believe!
