Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

Good morning ladies. It's the official last day of the challenge. I think I did really good this week, but we'll see what the scale says tomorrow!

Jeanne: Good gracious. Disney, 2 cruises, Disney and then, a race! I would be dead for that race. First off, I'd be a sunburned mess and chafing like crazy, but then, yes, the drink of the day would do me in on the hydration front!
More power to you!

Beth: Uh oh! Please, please, please tell me you aren't running anymore until you've healed from your surgery? I'm sorry you are hurting so bad. I would lecture you, but I probably would have done it too! Just take it easy for the next month, okay? :)

AFM: Harrison told me in the car on the way to school that he thinks he could do a half! :lovestruc Gotta love this kid! He did, afterall, do almost half of one already. I thought you had to be 13 to run one, but now, I'm finding that the rules are different for each. I'll see how serious he really is, and who knows? There is a kind of local one happening the day before his bday in November, so????

I can't believe it's already May. It's been so chilly that it hasn't seemed like spring at all around here. But, it's good running weather. I went out for 4 miles today and felt great. I'm going to zumba tonight, and, I think, leading my first dance routine. I have a really easy one, and, if the instructor likes it, she'll let me show it to the class and lead it the first time! I'm scared!!!! She also is going back to college, and, over the summer will be going to night school. So, I may take over one night of her classes. I'm just looking at it as free zumba! She really wants me to get certified, so I can officially do it, but I don't have the time or want.

Well, ladies, have a great Monday. Hope to hear from you all tomorrow!

Tandy: I actually haven't trained beyond 5 miles in well over 18 months so my performance in Williamsburg should be.....interesting, to say the least. There is a 4-hr time limit and I am definitely not seeking a PR, so Hakuna Matata! :thumbsup2 It's all about getting out there and feeling the distance again.

Beth: I know you are bummed out right now about your impending surgery, but I am sure you will feel better once it's all over and done with. Surgery should never be rushed into or taken lightly, but I was sooooo miserable (and making everybody else miserable) before my own back surgery over 20 years ago. Once it was over, the relief from pain was just amazing. I'm hoping your results will be similar. Besides, we've got a wedding in our future that you and I are gonna tear up the dance floor, right?

Hi ladies!

Jeanne - Good luck with your race! I've done a couple before where the longest runs I did were 6 & 8 milers. No worries though! Just take your camera along and have a fun time :) Enjoy your WDW vacation and cruises! I'm jealous of the back to back cruises. Let me know if you have room for one more ;) And what would a vacation be like without a few indulgences here and there... Enjoy for all of us!!

Tandy - Mmmm... pancakes! That's my favourite post race food! That's awesome that Harrison is looking forward to running a half! One more year and he could run the WDW Half. I think the age limit for that is 14? Good luck with your Zumba class tonight! I hope everyone loves your routine and I think it would be awesome if you get to teach your own class. For the certification, would the studio/gym be willing to help out with the costs?

Beth - Ouch! Sorry to hear about the surgery but hopefully it will bring you some much needed relief. I second Tandy's idea of no running until after the procedure. Don't feel too badly about the relay run, I know what it's like to want to get out there and run or just to do something. Sending you lots of  and pixiedust:

Jackie - Way to knock that PR out of the park and then some! How did you end up celebrating afterward? Does the race make you feel more confident about MCM in October? Speaking of which... I don't know what the gas prices are like in your neck of the woods but they've gotten crazy here! I'm debating flying down on points even though I'd rather save them for something else. Have you decided on races for January? The Galloway talk sounded cool! He seems like a very approachable person.

Maria - WTG on making a workout schedule all the way through summer! I am impressed! I should take your lead and do the same thing. I'm really sad about the cancellation of AMC and OLT. I watched those soaps in high school and through most of university. Are they replacing them with anything? What else are they going to show in the middle of the afternoon. My vote would be for marathon weekend in January over Princess weekend.

Debra - :wave2:

AFM - Sorry to have been MIA for most of the challenge. I guess I had a harder time of it than I originally thought. I couldn't seem to ditch the sugar for most of April, I think it was just stress, keeping junk around the house and not getting enough sleep. But I made it through last week without any sugar (except on the weekend before my runs) so I think I have a better shot of fixing things in May.

I was looking at some of my old FB albums (trying to find new avatar) and found the one from my trip to Boston/DC last May. I was a lot lighter then and seeing the picture of myself from the wedding makes me want to get back into shape.

I'm back to running again! Just really short distances for now because I don't have to start training for my 30K for a couple of weeks. I noticed that my splits are getting a bit faster now. I can run between 9:30-10:30 m/m whereas last year I was between 10:30-11:30 m/m. I still haven't gotten to the point where I can run a 5K continuously yet but I'm hoping that will change by June. I'm still getting in my training sessions twice a week. The trainer I'm working out with on Thursday is a real butt kicker - I told him that I wanted to PR a couple of races this year and that I'm doing the Goofy in January. He said he's going to get me in shape to do them and work on getting my ankle stronger.

Oh and I signed up for a baking class - it's on Friday nights which I wasn't too enthusiastic about at first but I think a lot of other people had the same idea so the class is actually really small. So far I have no real desire to eat much of what we're making. Not because it tastes bad but just seeing exactly what goes into making pastries and working with some of the ingredients like shortening (yeech!) ... and all the sugar! :faint: But I am having fun shopping for kitchen gadgets. I picked up a really nice chef's knife that I've been wanting for a while. It's amazing what a difference a good knife makes!!

Have a great night ladies! :wave2: I promise to check in more this month!

Here it is, the last weigh in day!

For those that have kind of fallen off the wagon, you may want to go ahead and see where you are today vs. where you were when we started (although you may not I guess, depending on the news). :lmao:

I am down 1.2 pounds from last week and weighing in at 134.0. I'm just glad for the loss. I wish I'd made it back down to 133, but oh well.

Here's the biggie though. Looking back to week 1, I started at 142.0, so I've lost 8 pounds and am so close to my goal it's ridiculous! I am very happy with my results. :thumbsup2

For points this week, I managed 6.

1pt. exercise
1pt. weekly exercise
1pt water
1pt. dairy
1pt. veggies
1pt. weight loss

Vicky: I'm so glad you're enjoying the class. I know how you are feeling about the weight. It's good to have a goal, so maybe those wedding pics can give you that incentive that you need. Plus, it's warming up. Plus, you're starting to run again and train for a race. :thumbsup2 I think that 30k is a really good distance. We don't have any of those here, it's just a half or a full. Something in between would be good. I'm so excited for you for Goofy. And, I've been keeping up with your group. It sounds like so many of you are going that it could be nothing but fun! :thumbsup2

Jeanne: You'll do great even without huge training amounts. As long as you're fine walking and not setting a pr, all you have to do is finish, right? (Easier said than done, for sure!) :lmao:

AFM: Harrison and I have agreed. There is a half in our area on November 12th. He's in! Now, we just have to talk his dad into agreeing. My fall schedule at school is INSANE, so Frank will be worried that Harrison's training will interfere with studying. But, running is my happy place, and I need a break in order to regroup and focus, right? ;) Plus, having a half in November should fit nicely into my training for my 44 miler in April. I'm so excited for my first ultra. I am asking for the registration for my Christmas present, since I never need anything anyway. I guess I'll also be asking for Frank to be my relief vehicle all day for the race! :lmao: In case you haven't figured it out, Frank isn't really into this paying to run thing. He gets very annoyed at spending money on something I can do for free on a trail. He just doesn't understand.

Zumba went really well. I didn't end up showing the teacher my new routine until after class. But, she wants me to send her the song, so she can get it in her list. And, she's going to tweak it a little to make it harder. I stood in the front row next to her last night, and she left a few times to let me take over. I handled it pretty well. It's tough having such horrible stage fright, but I'm working on it! :)

I am off to run errands and then, get a 6 mile run in, I hope.
Have a wonderful day ladies.

OK, I have a problem.....I can't check my weight today until much later tonight. The carpet cleaner came to do my downstairs and totally spur of the moment, I decided I should just go ahead and get the whole house done. So I had to quickly run upstairs and disconnect all the Wii stuff. He says that I shouldn't put any of the furniture back until late tonight, or better yet, tomorrow. So I am going to have to use yesterday's weight, which puts me with a slight gain of 0.2 (204.2) I am a little bummed out that I didn't make it back into One-derland, but on the bright side, I did lose almost 7 whole pounds. Slow going I know, but I suppose any loss is a good one.
I was bad with points this week as I only got 4 :confused3 I missed the exercise challenge, weight loss, both new food/recipe points, and only got .5 each for the veggies and dairy. I did get a full point for my water this week, which is a first for me!

Tandy: Thanks so much for organizing the challenge. I know it took a ton of time and effort on your part and I want you to know how much I appreciate it. I'm one of those people who really needs some form of being held accountable in order to get results, so a challenge such as this gets me motivated. Congrats on your own weight loss. I haven't been following the results very closely, but methinks you just may be our biggest loser! :cool1:

Water: 0
Fruits/veggies: 0
Dairy: 0 pt
Exercise: 0 pt
Weekly exercise: 0
New recipe: 1
New food: 1 pt
Weight loss: 1 pt
Total points for the week: 3

Weight: 140.9 (down .6 from last week, 2.6 for the challenge)

While I'd love to have seen more, this is the first time I've been in the 140-something range in months, so maybe 130-land is within sight now.

Tandy - Echoing what Jeanne said, thank you for doing all this! Even though we lost a few along the way, I've certainly become much more focused on what I'm eating (not that you can tell it this week!) and working on the whole body. Now the real challenge is to keep it up!

Vicky - Gas prices aren't great here, although I don't think we're as ridiculous as the rest of the country yet. It's still cheaper for us to drive to all of the races we're doing, even if we choose to do WDW. I do feel better about MCM, although 26.2 is still a heck of a lot longer than 3.1! We're still up in the air about January - the couple that we were thinking about going with freaked out when they found out that the last bus left the hotel at 4:00am. It's just never been that big a deal to us!

Beth - PLEASE take it easy. (This coming from someone who ran 2 miles without walk breaks when I'd only trained for 3 minute run segments. Can't tell you how sore I was on Sunday, or how much DH has yelled at me for doing it!) I completely understand why you did it and why it was important to get that last run in before surgery.

Jeanne - Have a fabulous time on vacation! Are you staying at one of the host hotels in Williamsburg? Annie and I arrive sometime on Friday and will go to the expo, then just hang out, I guess. This race is all about fun, not time!

Went to the track last night with DH and two of my running mates. Had a small meltdown over not being able to keep up with them, so DH has spent all day today texting me and trying to encourage me. I know I shouldn't expect to be able to run at the same pace they can, but it's still really hard to watch them while I lag behind. I called myself the "poky little puppy." And there are still almost 6 months until MCM, so there's plenty of time to build back up, I hope.

Had planned to make Tandy's vegetable medley tonight, but came home with a nasty migraine, and I think it's going to have to wait one more night. Hope the veggies don't mind hanging out in the fridge!

Jackie

Super far behind again, sorry about that -- and I have to go look at a property in a few minutes -- posting my final weigh in at 188.0. I don't know if that's even a loss, but if not I think at least it's fairly stable...really hoping to see another loss at WW this week -- last week I was down 3.6! -- so probably not so much.

What I have learned -- I've had 3 different weigh ins every week (Leanies, BL and WW), and I weigh something different for each one, every week! My weight really does fluctuate, and I should probably tone it back to one weigh in overall, just to stop messing with my mind!

Maria :upsidedow

Hi ladies. I hope everyone's been having a good week. It's raining here, which is nice, but I want to go run!!!!!

Maria: It sounds like you have been super busy. Hope things even out here pretty soon. I think it's a good idea to only have the one weigh in every week. Otherwise, you have no idea what's really going on. And, yes, you were down 2 pounds for the challenge, so at least it's a loss overall. With all the traveling you've had going on, that's awesome!

Jackie: Yes, there is plenty of time to get the speed up. Just remember, you are running! You couldn't say that a couple months ago. You had surgery, remember? ;) I am glad you were able to get something out of the challenge. :thumbsup2

Jeanne: You know, you really did a great job. You too, are on the go all the time, and to be able to lose a steady pound +/- each week is really good. I hope you have a wonderful vacation and do a great job on the race. :)

Beth, Vicky, Cindy, Debra (and Manda and Kim if they're still around): Hope to hear from all of you. :)

AFM: Things have been going very well here. I lost that last pound to put me back at the low I reached a few weeks ago. Now, on to the 120s! I'm taking a day to eat whatever I feel like today, and then, back to clean eating for awhile. I'm really going to focus on that body fat % for the summer. Swimsuit season is only 3 weeks away! We had a pool cleaning party for my neighborhood pool, and it just brought it into focus.

We are now rethinking Harrison's half marathon. He got offered a position on a fall soccer team, which he wants to do. He hasn't played on a team in 3 years, because we didn't want soccer to interfere with baseball or football. So, we may let him play soccer and put him on an easier fall baseball team. If that's the case, he probably won't have time to train for a race. We'll just have to wait and see.

My running has been going great. Since I have no race on the horizon, I'm just running for fun. Each run is a joy! I'm not looking at the watch until the end, and sometimes, I have no set mileage when I start. I just run until I feel like turning around. It's such a change for me. And, somehow, my speed is still staying up there. I actually managed a 30 minute 4 mile run the other day (still don't know how that happened). I would say that it's because I was running downhill, but it was 2 out and 2 back, so not possible!

Have a great day ladies!

Hi ladies! Sorry it's been a bit busy and I'm trying to keep up with my team thread as well (bit of drama there).

Tandy - WTG on the loss! And thanks for the reminder on swimsuit season  Yikes! And a big thanks for organizing the challenge!

Are you still planning on doing the Warrior Dash? I've had a lot of people say the 30K is an interesting distance. Funny thing is that, locally there are two 30K races every year. But I guess not so much anywhere else. And I hear ya on the rain! I've gotten so use to not running for the past few months that anytime there's a bit of rain here, I use that as an excuse not to go out. I've got to stop doing that because I use to go out no matter what! Do you have any relay races near you? What about having Harrison run a relay half. But I have to say that the soccer team sounds exciting!

Jackie - You should tell them when the races start at 5:30AM, they'll have the rest of the day to unwind, tour the parks etc. DC is a bit of a toss up for me, it's just far enough that it's almost worth it to fly in. I have points so I'm going to decide in a couple of weeks. I have heard that the gas prices are suppose to go back down for the summer. Who knows :) Someone at work suggested the Mega bus ... that seemed neat but sitting for 10+ hours on the return trip (after a marathon wasn't appealing).

Jeanne - Congrats on losing the 7lbs! You're not too far from Wonderland so you'll be there in no time at all I think. Just keep up with the exercise, clean eating and water intake!

Maria - I'm always amazed at how much weight can fluctuate within a couple of days. Sometimes I think if you eat a little too much or have meat, it can really push your weight higher. Are you buying a new house or is the property just something work related?

AFM - I have been getting out more recently to run. I'm still working on a continuous 5K but I'm happy to be back out there for now. The ankle seems good enough to run on although going around a corner isn't always comfortable. I have a podiatrist appointment coming up at the end of the month so I may ask him if he has any thoughts on it.

The eating has been going well the past couple of weeks. I'm leaving one day aside for sugar so I can sample some of the stuff that we bake in class. But other than that, I haven't really been eating sugar. Speaking of ... I figured last night, I'd get a head start and practice making one of the recipes for Friday. Turns out whoever wrote the recipe left out two of the ingredients from the directions. I kind of wondered why my dough wasn't sticking together and then I realized that I hadn't added the water! It's partially my fault for not reading through the recipe before starting but its not confidence inspiring when the recipe comes from a baking class. :upsidedow

I've got a training session tonight and then I'm going to try and watch 'Fast Five'.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky: No, I'm not doing the Warrior Dash after all. It filled up faster than I could decide!:lmao:
Yes, I read your drama on the team board. I responded to her other post, but only after I deleted my initial post. I really, really, really wanted to write some other words (I'm sure you know what I mean). ;) It's really all for the best. She was a very negative person on these boards about so many things, and not just the running. I've seen posts on all the different boards, and almost every one was a very negative, down post. The rest of your team seems fantastic! Don't worry, you responded beautifully! :thumbsup2
I'm happy to hear you're getting a handle on the eating. It's, without a doubt, the hardest part of all of this!

Happy Friday Leanies! Anyone have plans for the weekend? I'm going to get a cut & colour tomorrow. I'm long overdue for a cut! My hair is generally thick and it's now taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r to dry out in the morning. So I'm looking forward to that :) I'd love to change the style but I'm not sure what I want it changed to. I don't want to go short because I like the length.

Yesterday I had a quick training session. Did some hip and glute work and some balancing and speed work. I think my balance is improving somewhat but not enough to balance in heels taller than 2.5". I haven't worn a pair of heels since January because of my ankle. Now it feels like I'm learning to walk all over again  (not that I was very good to begin with).

I'm hoping to squeeze in a run tomorrow morning before my cut but it depends on when I get back tonight from class.

I wanted to ask everyone - what's a good number of calories for breakfast? I calculated my breakfast smoothie at being 376.5 calories, 18.11 g fat, 10.23 g fibre, 9.35 g sugar, 17.22 g protein. It keeps me full from about 9-1PM but it feels like it's heavy in calories (and fat). I could use unsweetened soy milk and I think that would cut the calories by about 25 calories and the sugars by 6 g (I still have several cartons on regular soy milk I need to finish before I can restock). What do you think?

Tandy - Thanks! I have no idea what happened on the team thread. I think our team was a little bit excited about arranging meets but I always assumed that everyone knew they were optional. I think I was most worried that other people on the team would feel badly. Oh well, what can you do. It's hard to make everyone happy.

And yes, the eating is definitely better! Phew! I was reading up on pro-inflammatory foods and it seems like sugar was one of them (beef, pork and nightshade veggies were also culprits). Can I blame that on my knee and ankle problems

Too bad you couldn't get in on the Warrior Dash :( Maybe they'll open up some additional spots or you could buy someone's entry/bib?

Have a great day and weekend everyone! :wave2:

Vicky: I usually eat about 300 calories for breakfast, but, it's all about total calories for the day. If you are full until 1, then that's a good amount for you. Everything I have read says that you should eat more of your calories early, because it creates less calorie deficit at the end of the day, and you won't be as inclined to binge after dinner. I, of course, struggle severely with this because I hate to eat breakfast. But, I force myself to eat at least 300 calories, or I'm starving by lunch.
Ooh, I love getting hair cuts. I can't color my hair anymore because I'm allergic to one of the chemicals in all hair dye, but I still love to be pampered. I am trying to grow mine out, so I just get quick trims now. Your hair is beautiful, by the way. Long, and really thick.

AFM: I just got my longest run in since Goofy. I did 12 miles. I also had to take my first ice bath. That pulled or strained or whatever glute muscle was killing around 10 miles, and I knew it would be worse later.
Going out for a very belated birthday dinner with some friends tonight. We're going to a mexican restaurant, so I'll be having a few frozen margaritas. party:I'm trying to really watch the calories today, so I have some extra.

I hope all of you moms have a terrific Mother's Day! Let them pamper you!

Hi Ladies,

Sorry I've been missing for the past 2 weeks. I've been far too busy eating to post a message. I haven't stopped eating for the past 2 weeks. Not feeling very proud of myself. My final weigh in was 145.3. I think it means I've lost during this challenge, but went up in the final 2 weeks. 2 pts for last week and 3 pts for this past week. Not a stellar finish.

I'll try to post more soon.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms.
Cindy

Cindy: We all have those times, believe me! You'll get it back together. My post race 2 weeks after marathon weekend, I had a gain of 10 pounds. In 2 weeks!!!!!! I think it's all that eating to train, then, no training. I was just starving for those 2 weeks. So, it's okay. :thumbsup2

AFM: Okay guys, I need some advice. I've been tossing around the idea of doing this Brew to Brew 44 mile race. I think I really want to do it. Harrison is not going to do his half marathon in the fall, because he really does want to do soccer and baseball. I was going to run a marathon possibly in October to try to get under 4 hours, but this ultra has really piqued my interest. I love to run fast, but I think Goofy showed me how much fun slowing down a little and going for really long distances can be. So, what do you ladies think I should do? Should I do the marathon in October and try to get under 4 hours, or should I do the Brew to Brew 44 mile ultra in April? If I do the ultra, I may do the marathon anyway, but I'd slow it down and use it for training. Just trying to figure things out, and need all the help I can get. ;)

Hi Leanies! Hope everyone had a great weekend and Mother's Day!

Tandy - Wow! An ultramarathon sounds awesome! I don't know much about them but I think as long as you have a great pit crew with you, you'll be fine. I think you also have to get use to eating whole food during the race - not just gels, shots, Gatorade. Do you think you could convince Frank to help out? If it were closer, I'd volunteer :) I think you'll also need a plan for doing your LR in the winter because of school and studying. Of course, school aside... I don't see why you can't do both the marathon and ultramarathon. The marathon would just be incorporated into the training plan?

How was the belated birthday bash?

Cindy - The training runs make such a huge difference. I often forget myself that I have to change things up after a race. I like being able to eat whatever I want and it gets tricky when I don't run. But congrats on losing during the challenge!!

AFM - I got in a couple of short runs on the weekend. I was going slowly because my knee was giving me problems. No idea what the issue was but anytime I ran faster than 11:30 m/m, it started hurting. I have a quick training session today so I'll ask my chiro about it.

So for Mother's Day, I decided I'd make my mom a brownie cheesecake. I just wanted to try making a cheesecake and it was really an excuse to make something with sugar and to be able to share it. I make mine, go to put it in the fridge and see there's another cheesecake there. :headache: I thought maybe it was my sister but it turns out my mom made herself a cheesecake for Mother's Day (where's the loser smiley?). I told her that's like making yourself a cake on your birthday. I told her she'd better not go around telling everyone that we didn't do anything for Mother's Day - she sometimes does that for attention. Anyway, I'm thinking of freezing mine (can cheesecake be frozen and still okay after it thaws?) so that I won't be tempted to eat any.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Lovely Lean Ones!

I have a webinar in a bit, but thought I'd try to get a post in first...

Vicky -- I hope things have calmed down on your team, you are one of the least pushy persons I know! Sorry about the cheesecake -- you can make one for me any time! My guys pampered me while we watched Sci Fi and gave me a Vera Bradley bag and towel I wanted. It was a pretty low-key Mother's Day. I don't know if this is good or not, but my breakfast consists of hot tea, some fruit, a WW yogurt, and a homemade banana muffin (regular size, not the giant ones you get in stores). Oh! and the property I was viewing was for work. As the economy has reduced circumstances, a lot of smaller non-profits are unable to continue to run their programs, and they want to rent their properties to us. My boss goes out and looks at all these treasures, and if it goes further I'm in the second wave of people looking at it. I am not looking at new property for us until we sell this house and move to our retirement condo...no more moving for me until then!

Tandy -- I am so impressed you are considering an Ultra! I wouldn't presume to give you advice -- just go with what sounds like the most rewarding to you :thumbsup2 And let me echo Jeanne -- Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into our Leanies Challenge! I know I have not been the best participant this year, but I really appreciate your hard work! ::yes:: I hope Harrison does eventually find his way to a Half -- he has plenty of time!

Cindy -- Happy Mother's Day to you, too! I hope you had a great one. Dennis just starting running again this week, he's been on an eating veangance as well. I made cherry angel squares for dessert this week (angel food cake and pie filling), so at least we are dialing back the calories in our dessert! :littleangel:

Jackie -- You are the kind of "pokey little puppy" I would like to be -- the kind that has an injury, comes back, and gives it her all. You've got , Missy! Oh, and a note for you and Vicky -- I read online that "The Revolution" the Tim Gunn lifestyle show that is replacing AMC & OLTL (along with "The Chew", another food show), did not test well at all, and affiliates are complaining and saying they don't want them. Supposedly, Sony is interested in buying them and airing them on NBC. I think that might be wishful thinking, though...be sure and catch OLTL this week if you're interested -- Roger Howarth's first air date back is May 13th.

Jeanne -- You know you will get to Onderland, just like I will get to the 170s. We are the turtles, but that's ok. Every once in awhile we just might catch a current, and then we can enjoy the ride! :cheer2:

Beth -- I am sorry to hear about the surgery, but it sounds like you really need it  I know you must be frustrated with everything, but I keep telling myself it all happens for a reason...

:wave2: Kim, Manda, Debra

AFM: I've been doing a good job actually doing the workouts since I get to highlight them in the chart when I'm done  I'm also pleased with WW, this week I was down .6 after being down 3.6 last week. I've been tracking all my food and my activity points, and it does seem to make a difference for me.

Still don't know what's up with Disney races next year. I think I have some time before I have to figure out what I want to do next year, as nothing other than Goofy seems to be over 50%. We are replacing our brick front steps (2 levels) and it is killing our vacation budget (literally for summer 2011). Ben is going to his grandparents for a week, 2 weeks of sleep-away camp and another week with his church youth group, so I don't feel too bad for him. I already had 2 trips to Disney, Dennis had 1 trip there and a ton of races, so none of us can claim we didn't get to do anything fun. The last week of August we won't be away, but we will do day trips and there are plenty of things to enjoy -- plus my niece is coming for a week in July, and we will spend the entire time doing fun stuff with her. It's a staycation, but at least it's in a place near the beach, an hour from a water park, and with a lot to see and do.

Oops, webinar's starting...

Hello Leanies!

Just a quick check-in since it's a little quiet at work right now.

Maria - Congrats on your recent losses!! :thumbsup2 Sounds like you had a great Mother's Day! I was making banana muffins for breakfast for a while too. I talked to my chiro yesterday about nutrition and breakfast and she was telling me to add a scoop of whey protein to my breakfast smoothie. She also said to make sure I was eating about 1g of protein per 1lb of my weight (apparently it's not easy). I've never tracked my protein intake before so this will be interesting. And thanks for the heads up! Looks like I'll have to set the VCR! Roger Howarth is awesome!!

AFM - I did a quick training session last night - did some deadlifting, medicine ball pushups and some other arm/weight exercises. The weather seems warm and sunny today so I'm going to try and get out for a run after work.

I got an email from my cousin this morning. He's getting married and said he was sending me a personal invitation. I thought that was nice because for weddings involving family or family friends, the invitations usually go to my parents. So originally, I had thought about not going ... well ... because we're not really close and I wasn't sure how I'd react to going to a wedding. But I guess now I'll have to go... Well I guess maybe this will be the incentive I need to try and lose that weight :upsidedow

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Tandy - Not going to offer advice on the ultra. DH is toying with the same idea, though. After years of swearing he'd NEVER do anything like that, suddenly the idea is appealing to him. One of the local parks has a 100-miler every spring that a lot of our Galloway members do, and apparently he's been bitten by the bug. I will say, however, that 44 miles is just a teeny bit more than 39.3...

Cindy - I've had an eating binge too, but I can't blame it on running a marathon. I only ran a 5K. :lmao: But an overall loss is still good, so take that for a starting point and we can all move forward from here!

Vicky - I'm not sure exactly how many calories my breakfasts usually are, but I know I've been trying to make them bigger and more substantial. I probably need to add protein as well, since mine usually are much more concentrated with fruit and fiber (and dairy, since there's usually yogurt involved. And try as hard as I can, I can't use Greek yogurt in the AM.) And since I don't seem to care what I eat right now, feel free to send the cheesecake south!

Maria - Thanks for the :thumbsup2. It was just what I needed last night. We had our second track workout, and I went feeling all proud of myself after reading your post. We did a 2.5 mile warmup, and then I did the entire workout at a considerably faster pace than I thought I could. DH split the four of us into pairs, so I had a partner to run with this week. One of the guys was really pushing too hard last week, so he dropped back a little this week, and I upped my pace just a little so we could find a middle ground. As for today... let's just say I know that I worked really, really hard last night. :sad2: Have you read the new Kingdom Keepers yet? I have it on the table, and just can't get motivated to start it. DD just finished it, and wasn't impressed.

We're working on cleaning out DD's room now. The only way to describe it is to say she's a pack rat, doesn't EVER clean, and has been allowed to live in a pigsty as long as she keeps her door closed. I cleaned the room once during high school while she was at WDW for a week, but haven't been in there since. (Call me a bad mom if you want - I gave up that battle LONG ago.) Now she's ready to rearrange her room and start a new phase of her life, and she's tackling it with a vengeance. I've lost count of the bags of trash and donations that we've carted out so far. Fortunately, she leaves tomorrow morning for an overnight trip to Atlanta, so I'll get a short break!

Time to get back to work. Is it Friday yet?

Jackie

Good morning ladies. I had a marathon laminating session at Harrison's school today, so I'm getting on here really quick before I go out and run in the 80 degee heat. Yuck!

Jackie: Glad to hear your back out running and doing great. The room cleanout sounds horrible. I no longer go in my son's room, if I can help it. But, every once in awhile, the smell eminating from the closed door forces me to go in and evaluate. It's so gross in there sometimes that I am shocked!

Vicky: So where and when is the wedding? It was nice of him to personally invite you. And, yes, that's just the motivation you need to get that weight off!:thumbsup2The mother's day thing stinks. Sorry. Hopefully, she was at least grateful for it. The bday bash was really fun. I drank and ate too much and then, continued the theme on Sunday, but oh well.
Yes, I have to start learning how to slow down in my runs and learn how to eat. I think that, as long as I understand that just finishing it is the goal, not some silly time, then I'll get through it fine. :thumbsup2

Maria: Your summer sounds like ours. With the Disney trip in January and possible Europe trip, we aren't going anywhere fun this summer. But, Harrison is super busy, so he won't care. I did rope Frank and 2 of our friends into a trip to Hot Springs, Ark. for the mineral baths and massages, but that's just 2 days. I have been looking at cruises for next year, and think we're going to do that, but just the 2 of us. Hopefully, Harrison isn't too mad. :rolleyes1

AFM: Well, my mom's day was a bit of a bust. We went out for our brunch/buffet and I ate 6 desserts! This buffet has the best dessert buffet I have ever seen. It's bigger than most buffets and is mostly dark chocolate. There are around 20-30 choices, all made by special chefs, and they are delicious. I knew going in that I had no interest in real food, and was going to just visit the dessert buffet. So, I don't feel too bad. I was instantly back on track Monday, and feeling good again.
The bust part was that we went furniture shopping, or so I thought, and ended up with a computer and video game. :confused3 We went to Nebraska Furniture Mart after brunch, and I thought the Harrison and Frank were surprising me with the family room chair I've been begging for. So, suprise to me, we went to buy my stepson a laptop. Then, Harrison wanted a new video game and talked us into it. We looked at chairs, but no one really wanted to, so we just came home. Then, my stepson showed up to claim his new gift :headache: and told me that we should do something for dinner, because it was my special day. We decided to order pizza. When the pizza came, I got another surprise, I had to pay for it. He just wanted us to feed him!!!!!! In case you can't tell, my 31 year old stepson is very immature and self absorbed. He is probably the biggest bone of contention in my marriage. I truly believed that at some point in his adult life, Frank would stop bailing him out and taking care of him. Okay, I'm done complaining now, I promise!

I hope everyone has a great day. Hope to hear from everyone soon.

Hello Leanies!

Tandy - For some reason when you said stepson and laptop, I was thinking of someone who was maybe 10-years-old or 15-years-old. I can't believe you had to pick up the pizza tab and on Mother's Day nevertheless... especially after he got a laptop out of it. I would have given him a swift kick in the butt. I can't imagine asking my parents for a laptop unless it was my birthday or something like that. Sorry you didn't get your chair... :(

My mom seemed to like the cheesecake but only ate a piece. She ate most of her's ... My therapist thinks she's subconsciously competing with me (Why? I don't know...)

Jackie - I was like your DD a couple of years ago, then I just ran out of room and realized that I'd have to start getting rid of stuff. Has she found anything "lost" or interesting while cleaning? How come no Greek yogurt in the morning? Too heavy? And I'm with ya on "Is it Friday yet?" thought!

AFM - I got out yesterday for an evening run. I love that it doesn't start getting dark until at least 8:30PM. It was nice and cool but I was still able to wear shorts and a t shirt. I did have to go a bit slower to try and keep the ankles and knees from getting irritated. Not sure what's up with the knees. I'm trying to transition into a lighter more neutral shoe so maybe that's the problem. I'm going to try running in my 769s tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Anyway, I gotta get back to work... Have a great day ladies! :wave2:
