Working on Weight Loss and getting Lean!

OMG...I just posted a long message and lost it all....grrrrrr!

Thanks for the compliments. I am a little wary about posting a link to the story on such a public forum, but anyone who wants to read it can friend me on facebook. It's funny, WRAL wanted to come over for Thanksgiving provided the whole family was there, but we were all out of town. They have it on the books for Christmas (when everyone will be home, but by then it will probably be old news.

Anyway, here are some photos from wedding #3: (I will post the W&D ones when I get back from WDW as nothing is loaded onto photbucket yet.)

A little explanation about the mittens (which I had written about previously on the "lost" post): My new DIL is an avid knitter. A week before the wedding, her knitting group threw her a small shower. One of the gifts was a huge basket of hand-knitted mittens made by all the members for each and every one of the wedding guests, including the judge who married them! Everybody wore them during the ceremony. It was a hoot.

Happy Friday ladies!

Jeanne: Beautiful pics. I love the gloves and mittens! I also love your son's tie and your dress and all the colors. The brighter the better for me! :)The article sounds very cool. You have had a banner year, so it should be noticed!
Thanks for the blister/chafing advice. I ended up using my Eucerin cream and putting nursing pads over them. They are completely healed. Although, I may have scars. But, if I ever get the surgery you were lucky enough to have, I'll end up with scars in that same area anyway. ;)

Jackie: Congrats on the new TV! I couldn't live without our flat panel anymore. We now have 4 of them. I even have one mounted on a swivel on the wall in the kitchen. I don't realy even watch TV, but when I cook, I enjoy it.
I had a funny feeling that you would be debating that race again. :rolleyes1 The thought of being able to do it healthy and really give it all you have is probably quite tempting. I hope you are able to get everything fixed, and healed, and removed and get well. Do you have a surgery date yet?

Maria: I'm happy to hear that fruit can make you so happy. You sound very chipper even in writing. I am with Jackie though, I'm doing more of a chocolate thing than a fruit thing. For some reason, I'm not losing weight. Hmmm? :rotfl:

Vicky: You are so motivated that I know you can lean out. How lean are we talking? You're already pretty lean. In 2.5 weeks, you can't lose too much. But, cutting out sugars and maybe all refined things should help. You won't have any problem with workouts. :thumbsup2

AFM: Well, I ran 7 miles yesterday and the glute flared up as if I had done a long run. I'm trying to get outside for a 14 miler, and it's hard to get motivated when you are hurting. But, if I don't go today, I won't go all weekend. The weather is turning tonight.

I told my zumba instructor that we need to stop doing arms. She was shocked, because I'm always begging for arms. I showed her the "guns" and said she had given me guy muscles. She really has. I don't like how big my shoulders and biceps have gotten. I guess I can live with it, but I don't want to get any bigger. However, my triceps are still saggy. I think it's the unfortunate side effect of my 40s, but I work them out all the time.

I got all the presents wrapped today. I still have some coming in the mail, but I had a pile so big that I lost my guest room. Plus, I didn't want Harrison to accidentally stumble upon something that he shouldn't. ;) I put other people's names on his stuff so I could put it under the tree. One of his presents is a big Lego set, and if he were to shake it, he would know instantly. But, if it's his 2 year old cousin's present, who knows what it is.

I have a party tomorrow night that I am dreading. My husbands first girlfriend from high school is having a wedding reception. She and hubby have stayed friends this whole time, but I don't like her. She's kind of a b****. Her new hubby is very nice, but they are the only 2 people we know at the party. What's the minimum we can stay without being rude? :)We are going to use Harrison as our excuse to leave, but I still don't want to be rude.

Well, I guess that's it for me. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Hi leanies! Happy Friday!

Jeanne - I love the mittens and the story behind them. So cool that the local news has picked up on your story too! You guys are local celebs :worship: And you look fabulous in the pictures! I love your dress! :thumbsup2

Jackie - I'm with you on the getting all the running related repairs out of the way at the same time. That way, you just have to do one recovery instead of several ones throughout the year. And I hear ya on the chocolate - 'tis the season where everyone has a box out on the desk and out at parties. Stay strong!

Maria - I'm so glad you're allowed fruit for "free" on WW. Think of all the extra vitamins, fibre and other nutrients you're getting now! Are the 100 cal packs the ones made by Mr. Christie? And WTG on the 3 miler - I'd say it's just as good as 4! :thumbsup2

Tandy - Good luck on your 14 miler today!

Debra - :rolleyes1 I'm only bugging you because you said you'd post :upsidedow (I don't mean anything by it)

AFM - The no sugar is going well so far. I'm also trying to stick to lower sugar fruits like apples, grapefruit and raspberries. And then this morning I get an email from one of those group buy sites for a dozen cupcakes. :headache: The voucher is good for a year but I'm thinking that I really don't need 12 cupcakes.

I did my boxing workout on Wednesday and actually reached a point where I felt like I was fatigued. I could feel it in my shoulders and especially my calves because I'm working on standing on the balls of my feet. Phew! I guess that means it was a good workout :thumbsup2

Did a bit of training last night which was mostly leg and core exercises and also ran 2 miles on the TM. Saturday I'm going to go for yoga in the morning and go shopping with a friend on Sunday. I've got the sports doc appointment this afternoon so as long as he says I'm good, I'm also going to try for a 3 miler and 6 miler as well. I'll be sure to post what the doc says.

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Ooops we're probably posting around the same time Tandy. Is it a reception with dinner?I'd say that you don't really have to stay more than 2 hours. She's going to be busy so she probably won't miss you guys if you left. That was kind of like the wedding that I went to in Boston back in June. We stayed for the ceremony and a few drinks afterward, said congrats to the bride and groom and then left. We didn't know anyone there either and it was a little awkward because the guests weren't particularly friendly.

Vicky: Well? What did the doctor say? I'm hoping everything is okay.

AFM: My 14 went great yesterday. My husband called me at about mile 12 and told him I am officially a marathon runner. I had no problem with 14. It amazes me because just 13 weeks ago, when I started this process, I thought 14 was impossible. But, now that I've run 22, 14 is almost easy! :cool1:

I am really nervous right now. I don't know what to wear or what to do about tonight for this reception thing. On the way to work today, Frank told me I needed to look amazing because this is his ex girlfriend and she's inviting all their old high school friends. No pressure or anything! It's a very casual couple, so I think I'm going with really nice blouse and trouser jeans with heels. I can barely fit into any of my pants because my legs have become so muscular. At least I have trouser jeans in 2 sizes. I figure I can wear the bigger size and wear a belt to make the waist fit. I've always struggled with jeans, but now it's even worse! Ugh! I think I need a Xanax or a glass of wine or something. Sorry ladies, I'm just venting!

Hi ladies! So I went to the sports doc on Friday afternoon. He examined my knee and said he thinks I have patella tendinitis or fat pad impingement - more likely the former. He also said I was knock kneed and said not many knock kneed people were long distance runners. :confused3

He said the cause of the knee pain was likely because my knees bent in toward each other which forces the joints and tendons to bend in at a funny angle rather than staying straight in other people. He said it was something that wasn't easy to correct. If you were to hear him describe my "condition" without ever having met me, you'd think both my knees were completely bent inwards but that's not the case. I stand normally but I think my knees do bent inward a little.

He said the patella area takes a long time to heal because it's hard to get blood into the area. He said for really bad cases, he sends patients to get some kind of shock therapy treatment which basically forces blood into the area in the hopes that the area heals quickly. I'm not there yet but that sounds painful (and expensive). I have a suspicion that's what the acupuncture did but I really didn't like the experience of needles. I still found them to be painful - both putting them in and taking them out.

He didn't look thrilled that the race was in January but I don't think he wanted to tell me that I couldn't run it either. I asked what would happen if I ran the marathon hard. He said the worst case would be that I'd have to take a 6 month break from running to recover. But that's the worst case and since he didn't flat out say no running, I'm still going ahead with January. I'll take a break after the Princess 1/2  :rolleyes1

Tandy - How did the party go? I'm dying to hear the details :) I have the same problem with jeans too - anything that fits my thighs and calves is too big around my waist and hips. I usually have to get things taken in so that it fits properly. It's a major pain!

AFM- I bought a dress today, no intentions to really but I tried it on and think it will be great for a few of the holiday parties I'm going to ... and as long I don't see anyone from the parties at New Year's, I can wear it then too  Here's a link to the dress:

http://theboaroom.com/satin-tube-with-budding-leaf-p-884.html

I have to get it taken in - I was in between the small and the extra-small. Actually it's because I'm so flat that it's a little loose on top  The extra-small is a little bit too tight everywhere else except the top. The store generally has a final sale policy but the girls working there said I can bring it back for the XS if I change my mind next week. So I'm going to take it to a seamstress this week and see how much it costs to take in. Because I'm not confident that I'm going to lean out *that* much in two weeks.

And because I really am lazy with eye makeup - I'm going to get lash extensions done. The place my chiro had her lashes has a special on for December (she does fitness competitions so she has to get a bunch of things done before she gets on stage). I really liked her lashes so I'm getting mine done as well! The only thing is that the appointment is l-o-n-g, like 2-3 hours long :faint:

Vicky: Well, it's not good news, but it could be worse. I googled fat pad impingement and it sounds painful. If you think you are up for the marathon, then go for it. I hope it doesn't lead to 6 months of recovery, but if it does, it does, right?

Love the dress. It's really cute. Too dressy for any of the parties around here, unfortunately. You are lucky to get people out of jeans or Dockers in the midwest.

AFM: Well, the party was much better than I expected. Frank's ex was kind of wacky looking when we showed up. She had her veil on and then, this black outfit with knee high boots and torn stockings that I just didn't understand. It was crazy looking. Her new hubby cornered my hubby and told Frank that it looks like he won (got the girl). :scared1: I tried to explain to Frank that he was just kidding around (he does seem to have a good sense of humor), but it kind of threw Frank off considering he and his ex haven't dated for 30 years. We ended up knowing 2 people after all, so we all congregated in the kitchen and talked for 2 hours. Then,we left and went to another party. So, not as painful as I was afraid it was going to be. And, Frank was really wonderful to me the whole time. I did have a glass of wine, which seemed to help!

Hi leanies! We've finally got that first dusting of snow that's actually sticking to the ground. So I think any mileage I do from this point forward is going to be slow anyway. I definitely don't want to slip and twist or break anything else

Tandy - What a party! What an outfit! I'm glad you knew some people there so that it wasn't so awkward. What was up with the "I got the girl" comment? I can see how it was meant to be a joke but sometimes people are sensitive about that stuff.

Toronto isn't that dressy either. People only dress up to go to clubs or to shows. Otherwise it's just jeans and tees. I found that people in Montreal, QC and Washington, DC tend to be a bit dressier overall. Can't imagine wearing heels all the time though - ouch!

How's the food journaling going? Any progress?

AFM - I had a couple of good runs on the weekend - small distances 5K and 10K and both went well. Both were slower than I would have liked but the streets were beginning to freeze and there were a few icy patches.

The eating is going well, I'm sticking to the no white, rice, breads and pasta and low/no sugar pretty well. I feel like my clothes are a bit looser this week which is good. My chiro told me to make sure I'm eating a lean protein source at every meal because the body will burn calories trying to process the protein.

I also told my chiro about my new dress so she made sure I did a bunch of upper body exercises and tricep dips to make sure my arms were looking good

I have an office Christmas lunch to go to tomorrow. I'm not really looking forward to it. It's at a restaurant that has pool tables and I don't play pool. I'll end up watching everyone but think I'll be really bored. Plus I don't drink either - did I mention that some people here can really (REALLY) drink. It's kind of nuts!

I'm going to try and get in a quick 2 miler before work and then tomorrow evening I've boxing and will also try to head over to see the seamstress.

Have a great day ladies! :wave2:

Vicky: I'm glad to hear you got some runs in. That's great! And, good job on the eating. You'll be fitting into those tights in no time! Did you end up ordering the capris?

AFM: Well, I've officially injured myself. I was running yesterday on the TM because it was cold and I was being a wuss. I was supposed to do 8, but quit at 6 because around mile 3 or 4, my achilles started hurting. I thought it was just tight and I could run it out, but it started killing me! I am in so much pain now. I am quitting my training for about 1 & 1/2 weeks and going to do everything I can to fix it so I can still run Goofy. I am so disappointed that this is happening now. I know that I've gotten a 20 and a 22 miler in, but they were way early. I don't want to lose all of my training. If I were to have to do the races today, there's no way I could even walk them because of the pain. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!

Hi leanies! Where is everyone?

Tandy - Yes, I ordered the capris yesterday. Turns out my friend will be in town on December 23rd so he's just going to bring everything with him. We figured with the possible delays in shipping, I might as well just wait. I'm okay with that because I don't think I'm going to be able to get in a really long run until then anyway.

This weekend I'm going to try for an 8 miler, 10 next weekend and 13 on Christmas. I think that's the best I'll be able to to do in terms of running. My plan is to take it easy for the first 13 miles which I figure works out since that part goes through MK. If I'm feeling good, I'll pick it up outside of AK which is the really boring 4 miles until Hollywood Studios. I'll send you an email later tonight. Oh and I only plan to stop if I see three characters - Scrooge McDuck, Figment and the White Rabbit (Alice in Wonderland).

pixiedust: for your achilles! The rest is the best thing you can do for yourself right now. The extra miles aren't going to do anything and better to go in undertrained and uninjured and injured with all the miles you need... Or that's what someone told me  I don't know of any stretches but ice it.

AFM - I've got a Christmas lunch today so hopefully I can keep my eating on track. Other than that... not too much else going on. The weather today was absolutely frigid so I'm going to run on the TM at the gym. No boxing tonight because my trainer is out of town. So I'm just going to run a few errands - Christmas shopping, groceries and going to the seamstress.

have a great day everyone :wave2:

Good Afternoon, Leanies!

Time is just flying -- I have 2 major projects and a couple of minor ones at work --at a time when I really don't want to do anything but get ready for Christmas. But, gotta earn the money to pay for all the holiday cheer! :goodvibes

Vicky -- Snow! I am so jealous. I want some! It seems like it's hitting everywhere but New England, and that's just not fair! ;) I hope the Christmas lunch went well today. I know you were not looking forward to it, I hope it was much better than you expected. I also hope you don't end up with 6 months not running -- I have to believe it will turn out ok and you will be running at Princess! princess: The 100 cal packs I have are Nabisco. I should say "had", I don't intend to buy more. I'm perfectly happy snacking on the fruit, I'm pleased to say. I'm just about to have a banana right now

Tandy -- So sorry about the injury! Yep, you need to just rest. I know the timing isn't the best, but you honestly are ready, you know you can do it! :thumbsup2 Ok, that was just a bizarre encounter at the party -- I know you are both glad it's over. I don't know what else to say :confused3 Oh, and just to clarify -- my love of chocolate is not diminished, just my consumption ::yes::

Jeanne -- The photos are amazing! What an incredibly happy day! I can tell you and everyone else was just having a wonderful time! :dance3:

Jackie -- I bet your surgery is coming up -- I'm wishing you a speedy recovery, and immediate relief!

I just realized -- we haven't heard from Beth in awhile -- hope everything is ok, we miss your enthusiasm!

I ran 10M Friday, 3M Sunday, 4M Monday, and did yoga yesterday. I meant to get up and run this morning, but my body said more sleep was in order. I hope to get in a quick 3M tomorrow, and then do my long 10M on Friday again early. My eating has really improved since I'm eating a ton of fruite. I'm just not as hungry, and so I eat less junk. Plus, dh has been making extra at dinner, so I've been having leftovers at lunch. Yesterday was scallops, brown rice and grilled veggies. Yum!

I just have a couple more things to order online, and a few things to pick up in the stores. I will be done soon, and then I can get back to those Christmas cards I bought but haven't started yet :rolleyes1

I have to get the things for my co-workers this weekend, and also stuff 4 stockings for needy kids. DH and ds are shopping for me, so I will be at home Saturday and I can do some wrapping. :santa:

Maria :upsidedow

LTO, LTO, LTO.

Now that we've gotten that out the way.... I just went back over the past couple of pages, so forgive me.

Maria: Soo cool that you registered for the Princess. How do you feel about it falling a week earlier this year & before Flower & Garden? I can't believe you're almost finished with holiday shopping and moving on to cards. I might need to make a list soon. Not facing the post office, though. Love the fruit - don't know if I could give it up. Then again, I'm thinking that about chocolate, too. :lmao:

Jackie: I'm sorry! I didn't realize you were headed for a hip procedure. Part of being MIA, I'm afraid. I'll have to backtrack through the posts - but what does that mean for your near running future?

Jeanne: Life back to normal? Woo hoo! You've had a banner, busy year - lots of fun and good memories - but I'm sure you're ready for some downtime. Those are great pictures, and the Bob Fosse hands are precious!

Tandy: Blisters in SUCH uncomfortable places. And I thought those on my feet were bad. Ouch, ouch, ouch! You have my sympathies. It's never happened with my toddlers (as opposed to girls). Wow - good for you and DH for being friends with his HS GF. That's really cool, even if it's not 100% comfortable. And I'm glad you went and had a good time. New hubby "won," huh. That kind of talk always cracks me up. I've always thought of myself and other women as a carnival prize. :rotfl:

Oh, you injured yourself. Not great timing, but you've got a great base for Goofy and time to recover. I know it's anxiety-producing (been there) but I'm confident you'll be ready come January.

Vicky: If anyone can lean out in a short period of time, it would be you. You've got such good base, even when you've had to put aside running, weights, etc. for various reasons. That dress must look amazing on you!

And if I understand you right, you're going ahead with Jan. and Feb. races? With your patella tendinitis? Are you going to take the races easy?

I'm looking forward to hearing how your office party went. So glad I don't need to do those anymore. They DID drive me to drink. Well, more than I normally would.

As for me: I've been running, but sporadically and with niggly injuries. Hasn't helped the weight loss and getting fit plan. Neither has all the noshes. Been a year of backsliding, for me & DOOD both. We've both gained about 10 pounds. Unusual for him.

Anyway, not much I can do about the past. Just trying to move forward. Slowly, because that's the way I roll. Or run, as the case may be. :rotfl2: On the up side, I've pretty much stayed away from the treadmill all this running season - a first for me.

I'd confess to lots of back story stuff, but really I've been wallowing in so much stuff (although not pig slop, which is what you'd expect to wallow i) that I'd rather not dwell. So just ask me what interesting movies I've seen, books I've read, or wild turkeys I've shooed out of my way when I run.

Good Morning, Leanies!

Debra -- Great to see you posting! :yay: This is my first Princess, so other than being annoyed I have to pay ridiculous airfare since it falls at the end of February Vacation Week, I'm not sure. My Halfs are usually a year apart, so it's going to be interesting to have them with only 2 months in between! I'm going to have to get back to my training quicker, and not go crazy eating in Jan., which is probably just as well. ;) We only have one trip to the Post Office to mail to my SIL's family in Tampa, and I'll be having dh do that one -- we do have a local branch that isn't too bad, so hopefully it won't be painful. I hadn't given up all fruit -- just bananas as those seemed to high on the old WW plan. Now all fruit is 0 pts, so I'm having a bonanza! I'm feeling fuller, and eating better in general. I have noticed I do need to get some more fiber in, though. Turns out those vitamuffins were good in more ways than 1 :rolleyes1, I'm going to try adding them back in. I could use a better breakfast, anyway. Just a banana isn't really getting me to noon. I seem to have given up the morning snack, too. :confused3

I got up and ran 4M this morning, and it felt great! So good to have workouts that feel productive and are energizing :cool1: It's another day of projects, and then home to wrap my first present of the season. DH is having lunch with his former admin tomorrow, and I have a singing Tiana doll for her granddaughter. Those dolls are seriously cute! I really like Ariel and Belle, too...

I am looking forward to having my LR out of the way before I go to my first meeting tomorrow. I need to finish up some Christmas shopping later in the day, then ds and I have a date for "Syfy" Christmas -- the holiday episodes of "Eureka" and "Warehouse 13" I tivo'd. DH is doing his LR for the week Friday night, so he'll be at the gym. It's 15 miles this week, then 22 next week. I have definitively decided there are no full marathons in my future. I don't know how you guys train for them -- let alone Goofy! :worship:

Anyway, Saturday I have nowhere to be -- it is going to be fantastic! I'm hoping to finish up The Valley of Horses, and wait until next year before I order another Earth's People book from the library. I have Angelology, and I need to pick up The Emperor's Tomb, Last Call: the Rise and Fall of Prohibition, and Of Love and Evil: Songs of the Seraphim from the library. The first and last are the new Steve Berry and Anne Rice thrillers, so I'll be enjoying those most -- with some "Prohibition" thrown in to enhance my knowledge :teacher: I'll also have plenty of wrapping, cards and letter writing, and :laundy: to do. It's going to be great to just be able to finally stay in my house for an entire day and "be". :cloud9:

I'm also hoping for a good loss this week -- but after losing 7 last week, I'm thinking good is relative -- a pound or two would be pretty awesome. To that end, I postponed the chimichangas on our menu until tomorrow night, and I'm having light soup for dinner :littleangel: Let's hope that helps! :rotfl:

Everyone have a great day and a fantastic weekend, I may not make it back tomorrow...

Maria :upsidedow

Hi everyone!

Maria - I ended up sitting waaay on the other end of the table and chatting with our vendors and service providers. The lunch overall was okay, I didn't stay afterward to play pool - mostly because I don't know how and most of the group staying was older. They left around 3PM and caught a cab to go back to the office. The restaurant was quite far off the subway line.

Look at all the books you're reading!! Right now, I'm in the middle of a book called The White Tiger. I started it back in October and you'd think it was a really long book or something but I'm just lazy about finding the time to read. I think after work I just like zoning out and watching TV or surfing. And look at you go! I think you're the new queen of running and workouts! Am I even going to recognize you in January?

Debra - Yay! I'm so glad to see you posting again! We missed you :) Sorry to hear about the weight gain for both you and DOOD but once you get back into running, working out and clean eating - it will fall off in no time at all! I know - easier said that done. One thing that's worked for me is to buy an outfit that's just a little snug and use that as an incentive to lose weight.

And I'm definitely going to take it easy with the full and the 1/2 in February. My chiro seems determined to get me to the races :) I even braved a second round of acupuncture which wasn't as bad this time.

Btw, what does LTO stand for  And what movies have you seen? Did you watch Love and Other Drugs? I remember you said you saw some of the film crew in your neck of the woods.

Tandy - I see from the waivers thread that you're right up there with all the fast runners! How's your achilles feeling today?

AFM - The Christmas lunch was so-so. It's not how I would have chosen to spend my afternoon but whatever. I tried to make good food choices but there actually wasn't much on the menu that was low-cal or healthy. So what I did was I got a salad instead of fries and ate half the main (crab cakes - I think they were fried). I was also "forced" to get a dessert but just ate 1/3 of it. I ended up leaving early with the group that I sat with which was good.

Went to the gym last night to get in a few miles before my reassessment. I decided to do my 2 miles indoors on the TM seeing as how it was about -10C (or 14F) outside last night. Plus I figured the TM would be a bit softer and non slippery so just better all over. As I was running on the TM, my chiro happened to be out on the gym floor with another client. She said she was able to watch me run for a minute or two and noticed a few "funny" things. She said I have a stronger stride on my right side and so I'm able to pull my right leg and arm back farther as I'm running. She said she noticed an imbalance on my left side, as my shoulder was positioned higher than my right side (which I think is from me keeping my shoulders tense). And of course my stride was not as long. Finally, she said I have to stop running hard … meaning that I really stomp on the ground as I'm running. She wanted me to first of all slow down the pace and work on a lighter landing which would be better overall for my joints and body. Then we'd work on the other stuff… She also noted during my assessment that everything was really tight (no surprise there) so she was able to do a few adjustments for me as well and some acupuncture.

I also got in a little bit of Christmas shopping last night. And that's about it. Oh, I and I'm potentially meeting up with the ex next weekend. Not sure if this is a good idea (it probably isn't) but part of me just wants to get it over with and hear what he has to say. I think I'm just worried about getting sucked in again and then going through all the heartbreak again. *sigh* I think I'm just really looking forward to January and taking a break from everything and a fresh start in the new year.

:wave2:

Good evening ladies.

Debra: Welcome back! Sorry to hear about the weight and the running, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. You will have to explain the turkeys. And, yes, I love that he said he won. I almost felt like telling him that, actually, he lost, but decided that was just mean. I did say I didn't like the ex girlfriend, didn't I?

Maria: 7 pounds, WOW! That's fantastic. It sounds like you have a wonderful weekend planned. I will be doing a lot of those things as well while I sit not putting weight on my ankle. :sad1: I've been reading all of the Kathy Reichs books. I just finished 206 Bones, so I only have 1 left. I've been really enjoying them but wish I spoke French. They would go so much faster. I also got Maeve Binchy's first book. I'm going to give her a try now. And, for my son, we got the Kingdom Keepers series. I'm excited to read them myself. 4 weeks til Disneyworld, what better books than those? I like some of the kids series, so hopefully they won't be too juvenile. ;)

Vicky: Thanks for using my own words of wisdom against me! :thumbsup2 You are correct, I will be just fine. Your plan for the full sounds good. I wouldn't mind getting some pics with some of the lesser seen characters, but don't "have" to get any. I'm more concerned with how often I will have to stop for potty breaks. So, whenever we need to stop, we'll stop. It's good. I'm glad you did that lunch on your own terms and left when you wanted to. I'm not a pool player either, so I understand.
As far as meeting the ex again, I get why you want to. Just don't let him get to you. Remember, this is his deal, not yours!!!!!

AFM: I think someone is actually going to have to talk me out of running until I'm healed. I can't stand it. I want to get out there so bad and it's only been 2 days. I think I'm going to try for a short walk this weekend, but Frank told me that he is going to be POed if I try to run before I'm ready, and then screw up the races. I feel so much better already. It's still twingy, but I can put my heel all the way down with no pain and can actually walk without a limp (but some pain). That's huge improvement. I've been icing and massaging, as well as completely staying off of it. But, it hit 55 degrees today, and I just wanted to be out there!

So, it looks like we are still missing Beth, Cindy and Manda. I hope you're all doing okay. Hope to hear from you soon. :)

Hi ladies! Happy Friday! Looks like there's a storm brewing here - the clouds are dark, the winds are whipping up and there's a bit of snow coming down. Just in time for rush hour ;)

Tandy - Don't run for the next week!! Your body needs to rest to recover. I know it's hard (and I speak from experience) but hang in there and RICE your injury! Think of those three medals - what's going to happen if your injury doesn't heal properly? And remember you said you wanted a PB in half, can't do that injured right? :)

Are you able to get out to see a physio or chiro? They might be able to help with a stretching exercise or some kind of treatment like acupuncture or ART. You could also try starting a new thread and asking other WISH'ers how they've handled achilles injuries, you might get some good suggestions there :)

In the meantime, are you able to do other kinds of exercises? Could you use a stationary bike or do some exercises with kettle bells and medicine balls that keep your heart rate going? Medicine ball slams, woodchoppers and kettle bell swings are great for that. T-pushups, inchworms (not sure if this would aggravate your achilles though) and dynamic planks are all fantastic too.

Thanks for the advice on the ex ;)

AFM - Not much of import to report. I did a quick workout at the gym last night - rehab exercises mixed in with core and arm work. Then I ran 3 miles but ended up having to split it in half because my dentist appointment ran over - way over. I ended up doing a mile on each segment at 9:14 m/m - it was pretty easy but don't think I'd want to go that fast during the race.

I'm going to try and get out to yoga tomorrow morning but there is the temptation to sleep in. It's suppose to snow on Sunday so I'm going to try and get in an 8 miler when I get back home on Saturday afternoon.

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

I woke up at 3 am and am trying not to wake anyone up, so here I am! :)

The achilles feels soooo much better. There is only a small area of pain and only when I push directly on it. So, I went for a little half mile walk yesterday (poor dog, he's been so neglected). I'm going to lift upper body and abs today, since that shouldn't affect the area.

Eating has actually been pretty good lately. My poor son couldn't fit into his pants again and got so upset. So, we're trying to eat healthy again. Hubby isn't joining us this time. I think I'm going to just give up. I know that sounds horrible, but I've watched him sabotage every attempt at health for over 20 years now, and I just can't be invested anymore. He's a grown man and can take care of himself. I will still make healthy meals, but when he asks me to buy his junk food at the store, I may as well get it. He'll just go out and get it later anyway.:sad1:

Vicky: Good luck with your run and yoga. Yes, with the weather now it's best to just get those runs in anywhere you can. Thanks for the advice. I know I need to take it easy, it's just hard, as you know. ;)

Good Morning, Lovely Lean Ones!

Tandy --So glad to hear the achilles is feeling better! And here's a  for Harrison. It is heartbreaking when they get so upset, and I know you just want to make it right. Unfortunately as we all know, you can't lose that much weight overnight in a healthy way -- and this time of year is really hard! I know you will be able to help him. It is hard when the dh just isn't on board. My dh keeps going back to his doctor, who keeps telling him he has to eat better or go on cholesterol meds (he already exercises so much, that won't help), and he does it for a few weeks and stops. I'm hoping this week's visit was enough to convince him he has to stop going to the bakery and start eating more like I do, but he's a grown man and if he goes it's his choice. :sad1: And I agree with Vicky, please take it easy this week! My ds loves the Kingdom Keepers! He even did a book report on one of them. I haven't actually read them, but I do know he considered them excellent :thumbsup2

Vicky -- Did you meet up with the ex? How did it go? Remember, he is the one with the problem! :grouphug: The lunch sounds tolerable. Our agency-wide party is Wed., and I'm blowing it off. I have a meeting until noon, and it's 12-2. I'm going to take my time walking back from the meeting and do some shopping, and pick up some soup or a sandwich to eat when I get back -- which will be much healthier and probably taste better than the Cuban food they are serving. It's not the Cuban food, it's the preparation. We have a social enterprise which is a catering program. The food will be prepared by our culinary students -- and I have yet to eat anything they made that tasted right. If they can't get cookies and brownies right and won't even attempt a sheet cake, I think Cuban food is pushing it :rolleyes1 They are under the direction of a chef, but I honestly don't think he tries anything they make...my boss even said, "They're not exactly ready for prime time!"

Taking a break from my chore list to chat. Yesterday was fun, and actually somewhat productive. I got a lot a wrapping done, and finished The Valley of Horses. I started reading Angelology, which is not what I expected but very compelling in an Anne Rice kind of way (no vampires, I promise -- at least not yet...I'm only 1/3 of the way through it...)

My 10M went very well, and it was pretty exciting to have it done before my day got started. I won't be able to do that all the time, but when I can I'm going to take advantage of it. I went to my meeting in the morning, and shopping in the afternoon. I think I still have one shopping trip left. I still want new bedding for the guest area and we need a couple more rugs for the basement. I also need a few gift cards, and I want to pick up a couple of things for ds I was wavering about. At least this year my wavering items are under $25, sometimes it's not quite so pretty.

Today I'm going to wrap some more, read some more, and catch up on my Tivo. The Pats don't play until 4:15, so I can be completely ready for tomorrow before I start watching. I also need to book the car service for marathon weekend. I seem to be behind in getting ready for this trip, it's all kind of surreal to me. :confused3

In any case, I'd better get the :laundy: started!

Maria :upsidedow

Hi ladies! Hope everyone had a great weekend! We got a little more snow... so as they say "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..." And no, you don't want to hear me sing that

Maria - The meeting is this weekend. I'm just interested to see what he has to say so I'm going to try and take everyone's advice and keep a distance. WTG on the 10 miler! You're getting in a lot of decent mileage! You must be psyched for the 1/2 in January! How's Dennis doing with his training? And how can students mess up cookies and brownies?? Yeah, if they can't get that right then any kind of ethnic cuisine is going to be a major challenge.

I'm going to have to ask you for some reading recommendations. My goal for next year is to read more books - or listen to them. I don't do as well with shaky books and hands on the train.

Tandy - I'm usually up at 3AM every night so you can always text me! I have no idea why I wake up then but I figure for January it will come in handy! How's your achilles feeling? Did you do any running this weekend or just rest and weights? Aww... poor Harrison :( I know the feeling when you're pants are too tight. But at least you know how to get everyone back on course! And I agree that you can't make anyone eat healthy if they don't want to. It's a lot of effort and the payoff isn't always there.

AFM - I had a busy weekend! Shopping, errands and I'm trying that whole pre-making dinners for the week again! I've pre-marinated some butternut squash for roasting, made some veggie pasta sauce, and have some chicken breasts that I can make pretty quickly.

I also made some Toblerone shortbread cookies. I ate one  because I had to see if they're any good. I'm giving the rest out for other people to taste test. They're were actually pretty simple so if they get the :thumbsup2 I'm going to try and make another batch on Thursday - but I won't eat any from this batch. Other than that, the eating's been going pretty good :)

I got in an 8 mile run on Saturday. It was cool but still above freezing so I'm glad I got it done then. Sunday was rainy and cold and this morning we had snow. I'm going to try for a couple of short runs Wednesday and Thursday and then Saturday I'll try for a 10 miler. I was told to stay on asphault and to stay away from hills but that's not exactly easy unless I'm running a flat 1 mile stretch back and forth

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:
