So I left school after two years due to a lot of personal problems. I got a full time job right after I left and have been there for four years now. (give or take a few months) I've been taking night classes for about a year and a half now. This semester I seem to be struggling with it. Not that the class is hard, actually it's a fairly easy class for me. I like my professor and there are some people in my class in my position so it makes it nice.

But I'm having the worst time staying motivated for it and I'm starting to feel a little worn out. I know I need to keep going and I want to keep going but right now I'm just so sick of going. I took a little break during the summer so it's not like I've been taking classes year round. Has anyone else been in this position? How do you keep going even when you just don't want to?

I need advice.

Keep your eyes on the prize!! Finishing your college degree will be beneficial for your future in the long run. Maybe you should look up some statistics on lifetime salaries of those that have college degrees compared to those that don't. There will always be exceptions to that rule but in general you will be much better off with that degree.

I went to school for my masters while teaching full time and with newborn twins! It was pretty hard and for a while there I was only taking one class at a time. It took forever but in the end I did it. My motivation was my job...if I didn't get my masters I would have eventually lost my teaching certification, so I had to finish.

I know how you feel. I am presently working in a full time demanding ( who's isn't, right) job and also trying to finish my masters. I have my wife and two young kids, DD5 & DS2 who are along for the ride.

I stopped my masters program about half way through due to a job change and relocation. Now getting back into it I have had to spread things out due to course schedules. It is taking forever to finish, but I am determined to do it. My motivation is that degree. I also know I am doing this for myself. I don't need the degree, but I want it. I think it will enhance my career and even help me in my present position. Also, since I am paying for all of this myself, that motivates me to get my moneys worth.

I know it is difficult, I feel for you. And I wish I could say it gets better, but it doesn't. That doesn't mean it gets worse. I don't believe it does, but it still doesn't change the fact that it is difficult. However, the main thing to keep focus on is finishing and getting that degree. Like the previous poster mentioned. Even though you have a position now, that degree will be able to open up so many doors, it will make it all worth it. It really will.

Good luck and hang in there. :thumbsup2

Try to remember that it's not going to be this way forever. My husband has been taking classes in preparation to enter an MBA program all while he works an evening (4-midnight) job. He's burning the candle at both ends, but in the end, if all goes as he hopes, the work will pay off, and it's only temporary.
Keep thinking of what the end result will be.

Thanks all. I think I probably already knew in my head what you were all saying but it helps to hear it from other people. At times it's easier then others and I think I'm just really struggling right now.

I'm going to finish because I want to and I know that if I want to have the jobs I want I need that degree. But problems at work seem to be making me less motivated for school. But it's good to know others are out there who survived this position or are in this one.
