"It is not a new thing; it is not a mistake," he says. "It is a regular feature of English."
Sheidlower says you can trace "ax" back to the eighth century. The pronunciation derives from the Old English verb "acsian." Chaucer used "ax." It's in the first complete English translation of the Bible (the Coverdale Bible): " 'Axe and it shall be given.'
Here a hug you might need, RC.Yea I don’t care.
I’m not old, I’m not English,
I think the Bible is fiction
Just because people have been doing something wrong for 1200 years, doesn’t make it right! Just means Darwin has been too busy to “reach out” to them yet.
And if someone tries to AX me anything, my first reaction is to GLOCK them

Soggy? That one sounds just as bad!
Not all houses are being lived in when they're for sale. Mine wasn't, but they just (badly) photoshopped furniture into the listing photos instead of staging the house.Staging, as in house staging for a house sale. It's a house, it's lived in, it's not a stagnant museum.
I've seen that, that's just as nuts.they just (badly) photoshopped furniture into the listing photos
No worries. If I thank a person for something, it's not because I was worried. It's because I appreciate what they did. Do they think I was worried that I was imposing or putting them out in some way? It just seems like a ridiculous response to my saying "thank you."
Mmm, nope I don’t like to be touched…Here a hug you might need, RC.Actually two, here's another.
