So inspired about reading about the fort I jumped in and made reservations for 10 days in October for me, DH, and 2 dogs. It will be our 2nd trip to Disney. I rented a camper n golf cart from greenberg so hope that will work smoothly. Photo stew motivated me...plus being stuck at home due to weather helped too. My hubby has been talking about food n wine fest but I just hadnt had a chance to set anything up. Our first visit to Fort in 2010 was around Halloween and we had no idea about the golf carts....so this time we will be riding in style. Can't wait! We were surprised at how much fun we had in the campground without going to the parks. Any camping tips or planning must do's will be appreciated!

Congrats and :welcome: to the DIS Camping Board. :disrocks: :jumping1:

It is REALLY easy to stay at the Fort without doing the parks. Or at least leave plenty of Fort days because you don't have to be a theme park kamikaze! :hyper: :sad2:

I think Greenberg and other trailer rental companies do a great service by making the Fort a viable resort option for folks who don't want to choose a cabin. The only downside about it is that your falling in love with the Fort will make it harder for the rest of us to get a reservation in the future. :furious: :lmao:

We're not golf cart people and are happy walking, bringing our bikes, and/or using the busses. But if you are so inclined the carts are handy to get around. Have fun on your visits and PLEASE come back and tell us about it afterward.

Thanks for the welcome! I will do best to post trip report and be a good DISer! Maybe some food pics on other thread too! Now if I can chill out n not get stressed trying to plan details. Go with the flow. We have 3 days just at fort no parks.:cheer2:

Hello Merrymilklady -
Don't know if you'll be driving down to the Fort, but if you are..... think about including a few Halloween decorations for your campsite in your trunk. It could be a simple as a string of lights, a blow up, a plastic light up pumpkin, or your choice of funny / creepy decorations. Some people that fly down also put a few pieces of decor in their luggage. During the month of October, lots of sites are set up with the spooky holiday in mind and it's fun to ride that cart around the loops and check them all out. If you haven't done so yet, check out videos on tube of the fort at halloween. :goodvibes

Congrats on your ressies! Yes, bring a couple of decorations. I for one decorate my site year round. Off holiday season you'll at least find my Mickey Lamp post and a couple Disney gardening gnomes and my pink Disney Flamingo.

You can never have to many Mickey decorations. I believe it is a requirement at the Fort.

Great ideas guys. So where are the best places to find Mickey lamp posts and Halloween decor in february? Any suggestions?

Closer the Halloween Walgreens and Kmart usually have a few things. The Fort store and the parks of course. Ebay is always a possibility but watch the prices. Disney store on line.

:wave2: good info thank you articfox. I was perusing the web last night n my hubby asked what I was looking for..n I said Halloween decorations he looked upward and said "Lord help us get to the fort!" And then he looked at me and said ..."MODERATION"! :rotfl2: I have a new project ....get decor for our campsite!

Disney store has string lights for25% off. They're large Mickey heads. We bought them when on sale last time, thanks to another Fort DISer!

MML - Does the hubby like the haunted mansion ride? if so what part? He may just have a few items show up in the mail for him:rotfl2:

Craft stores are good places to get ideas... Battery operated lights for the golf cart.... What characters are the dogs going to be? Up, 101, Lady?

 LOL !!!
Actually my hubby told me this week he didn't care if we went to MK on our trip to food n wine in oct or not (no throwing bananas please)

Our kids are grown n we are more Epcot n animal kingdom kinda people

EXCELLENT idea about dressed up Halloween dogs! Am sure I will earn a 'disgusted' dog look cause I got one at Xmas when I tried to put reindeer ears on our 13 yr old dog! He thinks he is too distinguished for that
:rotfl:
