Wood or tile?

I kind of agree with aahmom -- I guess if I saw someone post that they were in the process of installing brand new Pergo in their house, I wouldn't proceed to tell them that you don't know a single person who likes the stuff, but that's just me.

FWIW, I know a number of people who have installed Pergo and are very pleased with it.

How is it rude? For 1) the question wasn't "Do you like Pergo?", it was Wood or tile?" Saying " It certainly doesn't really look like wood," is insulting, to the person who is excited that she is geting Pergo installed all over her house today. 2) Saying "I have not heard of anyone who really likes their Pergo" is a bit of an overstatement, because there are a few people on this board who have and LIKE Pergo.

I've had pergo in my foyer, kitchen and family room since November.

I love it!!! My guests love the way it looks, even with the t-strips between rooms. (or maybe they're just lying to be kind)

It doesn't show mop marks mainly because I don't mop. lol. Truthfully, you are only supposed to use water or water/vinegar or water/ammonia on the floor. I use a swiffer head with damp dishrags, so I can rinse the dirt out better than with a mop. So, no, you don't see the mop marks.

But I've never claimed to have taste....

Hey it is ok if Diane does not care for Pergo.. hec.. at one time I was looking for opposing opinions re: Pergo.. just so I would have a better all around view.


I chose Pergo over hardwood for a variety of reasons.. the major one being the problems we had with upkeep of an older floor due to scratches and wear and tear.
I also chose Pergo flooring for these other reasons.. kids, dogs, my sanity.. lol... I am hoping that swiffering will be easier for me to do than vacuuming as I have trouble doing the latter due to leg and balance problems.

as far as rude.. hec.. so far everyone who has seen the new floor likes it... but then I really would be stunned if they walked in my house and roared.. ''OMG.. WHAT DID YOU DO JOAN? THIS NEW FLOOR IS HIDEOUS AND CHEAPLOOKING!"
LOL.. now that would be rude..

I saw a bamboo floor on some HGTV show a while ago & I really liked the look of it. I also liked that it's alot more environmentally friendly than wood. Because bamboo is a grass, it grows alot faster than any tree, a matter of months vs. decades for a tree. But, I'm still living in an apartment so I haven't researched its durability, etc.

Since I am in the same process as mommyto3 I can't advise her but am most interested reading the responses.We are doing our kitchen/dining room floors over and I can't decide what to put down either.The kitchen has to be heat resistant(tile of some sort,slate/ceramic...)because we have a woodstove between the two rooms.Other than the stove,it is open between them.I liked the idea of a Bruce type laminate in the dining room,but how about parquet?(no,not Parkay...parquet ).Anyone have this?It's a little less $$$ than laminate(since it's real wood,I don't get it,but..).They are the square tiles of wood that you glue down.We also have two kids,three if you count DH,and one old dog.

The difference between the Bruce planks and parquet is the amount of finished wood you have on top. Parquet, from what I've been told, as I had thought about parquet for our bar room, is that you can never refinish it like you can with the plank boards. Even with the Bruce, you have to watch the thickness of the finish. You pay more for some of it because you can refinish it twice, if necessary.

With the Bruce, too, we learned that there is a difference in the gap between the boards... also affecting the price. We installed a bunch of the microline Bruce to supplement what came with the house. I didn't want to go through the dust stage of sanding hardwood again if I didn't have to. Anyway, the microline has a tiny v-groove between the boards so less dirt and dust will get trapped between them. The planks that they sell at Lowes and Home Depot have a wider groove.
