This sentiment has always bothered me, Do year round Floridians really feel that was about snowbirds? I know where my parents (snowbirds) live in Highland Beach about 80% of the town (granted its a small town) are Snowbirds, but within the town's city limits of 2 miles on A1A, the town has a library, police dept, fire dept. village hall and a post office. IMO Snowbirds are a blessing to any state/city, town, condo association that has them. Don't people realize that the Snowbirds are paying for a year full of taxes and only using them for 3-4 months a year. Without the Snowbirds, you would not be able to have the infrastructure or government services that you now with out having to pay double in taxes.

This is my opinion.

I guess I would have to say there are 2 ways to look at the Snowbird situation. First, the additional traffic is UNBELIEVABLE. It seems like tenfold sometimes. Some of the neighborhoods where it may be upwards of 80% snowbirds, have a high temporary renters turnover rate with people coming and going every couple weeks or so. (I do realize that not all snowbirds rent their houses out) then the ones that sit empty have to be watched closely so the houses don't get vandalized. This can be a problem in even the nicest areas.
Orange county started cracking down sveral years ago as there were a lot of houses that would rent out by the week or the month to mostly Europeans that would want to come to Disney and stay for three weeks or so. People that lived in the same neighborhoods year round didn't like the transient feel that was taking over. Plus there might be 2 families or more sharing the house for the vacation and would be coming and going day and night.
The Homeowners Associations would get all crazed as the people that were just there for vacation didn't care what went on with loud music, traffic, parking on the lawn, garbage cans hanging out in the driveway, the list goes on.

The only problem I personally have, is when you get an elderly (I mean too old to drive IMO) person that doesn't know their way around very well as they have not been here in several months and they stop in the middle of a busy road with heavy traffic and cause MANY accidents.

The above post only uses Europeans as an example of people that rent the houses for longer periods of time, like 3 weeks or so. Where people that are coming from other areas around the United States, may only stay for a week to 10 days.

I don't want to offend anyone that might misunderstand what I was saying! :flower:

congratulations! let the packing begin!

went to the open house today-just as i thought-it was a ghost town (and the realtor was clueless, strike him off my list for consideration). no upgrades done (and whoever was the original owner went the cheap route on several items). if this house gets asking price i will be amazed!

i will say it was in very clean condition (owners have already moved out), but i think they could have invested a few bucks and a few hours and repainted a few walls that had poorly done sponge painting on them. i think someone must have cheaped out on carpet at some point too-it was spotless, but had the kind of waves in it that you know someone will have to have it restretched and reinstalled.

Congratulation C.Ann, I am so happy for you.
