Wonder's EBPC 9/12/14 Who's Going With Us!

Ok, ok, ok, ok, as ya'll might have guessed, I am the planner of our vacations for DW and I. (I have more time on my hands................so it makes sense. Plus and enjoy doing the planning.) So....................all or most of ya'll know DW and I are going to fly out to sunny California a few days before the cruise to visit Disneyland. And, our first visit to Disneyland. My question is, what are your suggestions for restaurants at Disneyland we should not miss? Both hotel and park restaurants? Thanks all for your help. As you can also tell, I like to get things all lined up early in the stage of our vacation. (This is a flaw in my personality I am working on!!!):lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Well, it's pretty pricey but the Blue Bayou is one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to. Napa Rose is a favorite amongst a lot of people too but I've never eaten there. Mostly dining at Disneyland is nothing like dining at WDW.

There's a yummy place across the street on Ball Road called "Marri's" they're pretty good for an Italian meal. Have a Dole Whip. The Fondue for 2 at Storyteller's is yummy. I like Whitewater Snacks for snacks. Some of the food at the park isn't great. But I notice sometimes (typically at work at like 2am) I'll start craving Pizza Port's pizza.

Blue Bayou... I like it. It's pretty. It's expensive for what you get. And for some reason EVERY TIME I'VE GONE they put us in the back near the bathrooms, which the lighting is different than near the ride. Near the ride/water you get pretty dark moody lighting with candles. Near the potties/kitchen it's super bright and loud. I've gone to Napa Rose. That's super pretty and comparatively not that badly priced. My friend and I went and it was amazing. If I remember right, they have a dessert tasting menu that's to die for and it changes pretty seasonally. I think they had pomegranate creme brulee last time I went (which was like 6 years ago).

I second the Blue Bayou, it is a little over priced but you pay ambiance , it is cool watching the boats from Pirates of the Caribbean go by. Also the Napa Rose was pretty good, there wine is a big thing and the really push it. I am not a wine drinker so it was not a big deal for me. There is also Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel, i am a meat guy so i really liked it. However, The one place I always eat is in Disneyland is the Plaza Inn. It is on the right hand side of Main St. when you are walking in on the corner of Main St. and The Hub. It just always bring back fawn memories, and also i'm and old school Disneynerd and this is one of Walt's favorite places to eat.

Yeah. I get placed in the back of blue bayou when I go too. If I go again ill request near the water. The wait will be longer but what's the sense if paying that price and having a lousy seat!

I forgot about plaza inn. Freakin' awesome fried chicken.

You can get the monte Cristo sandwich at the French Market now. They've been serving it for a while. The atmosphere there is kinda nice too. With the jazz playing in the background and the cool shade trees.

But if you're going to get fried chicken in that area, wouldn't the best place be right outside Knott's Berry Farm? That was my grandfather's favorite place to eat and I would go there with my roommates when I lived in the area for fried chicken and pie on like a Friday night.

Hey, Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions on places to eat at Disneyland. We have allot to look at and make up our minds. DW and I are going to have to start checking out these places and making our decisions. (I hate making decisions................gives me a headache most times!!!)

Thank you for the warm welcome Cayla, I'll pm you with my FB address.

As far as car rentals, one way car rentals are easy to find in SoCal. You can pick the car up at Long Beach airport, drive it to Disney, then to San Diego. Rentals are about the same price as in Orlando. I don't know which companies have port shuttles in San Diego, but perhaps you can google Port of San Diego for ground transportation options. You will need a car while you are at Disney unless you plan to never leave the resort. Like Orlando, things are far apart and public transportation is poor. It is only a little over an hour drive from Anaheim to San Diego, so driving is a good option.

If you only want transportation from airport to Disney and then from Disney to San Diego, the the train may be a good option. It's $28 from Anaheim to San Diego. Check amtrak.com for the schedule. I suggest that you fly into John Wayne airport which is closer to Disney and take a taxi to your hotel. You can then taxi to the train station. The train takes about the same time as driving, but then you will still need to taxi to the port. I google mapped it and it doesn't look like its too far from the station to port.

We're taking the train because we didn't want to drive and park our car for 2 weeks in San Diego and then have to fly back there to pick up the car, and then making the 2 hour drive home.
WOW - great info! We have friends who live near Long Beach, so they usually pick us up and take to to DLR. In the past I have never left the resort (unless my friends pick me up!) Since this will be my wife's (wow, that sounds SO nice to say!) first visit we will most likely not step foot off property unless it is to go to the liquor store!

The train sounds like a great option for us. We will have to figure out how to get from train to ship I think. I do have a nephew in San Diego that I speak to now and then, maybe I can beg a ride for us...what hotels are near the port? (lower price and clean are the real necessities for us!)

Blu Bayou, Club 33 (if you can find someone who is a member) I am not wow'd by the food, but the environment more than makes up for it!

Cathy and I are leaving for a trip - we will be gone for a while. Please - if anyone needs to be added to the FB page, have a little patience, we will return in June and I will add everyone then.

Cayla

When is everyone eating???? first seating or second seating?????

We are east coast, so we will be the early seating. We have done the late seating a couple of times, but first seating this cruise.:thumbsup2

Last night my friend/co-cruiser, Leannda, and I had "Disney Cruising Boot Camp." I think I may have overwhelmed and then got her really excited for this trip. The funniest part? I guess between the two of us (and our friend Em, who is debating if she's going) two other gals from work decided they wanted to go. So hopefully next September we are low census for 2+ weeks.

Check http://hotelguides.com/california/san-diego-ca-cruise-port-hotels.html. for hotels near the port. There are a lot of them within walking distance of the port. You will probably have to take a taxi to the hotel if your nephew can't pick you up. Just be aware that San Diego is a big place with a lot of traffic and he may have to drive up to an hour to pick you up:eek::eek:

If you want to stock up on alcohol, there is a Ralphs Grocery store at 101 G Street. Horton Plaza Westfield Mall is right there too in case you forgot to pack something. There are several hotels near there, among which is the Embassy Suites. You will have to taxi there from the train station and then again to the port.

Since the train station is about half a mile from the port, I think that we will get a ride in the morning to Union Station and take the train to San Diego and walk straight to the port on to the Wonder.

Have a great time on your EBTA.
