Wonder to the Land of the Midnight Sun~~~August 20th 2012~~~

Count us in for the Fish Extenders - the list of people doesn't seem to be too long at this point! (i read one post where there were 127 people participating - yikes!)

In Skagway, we're doing the White Pass Railway and Trail Camp
In Juneau, we're doing the "Best of Juneau" tour
In Ketchikan, hubby is going on the Deadliest Catch tour, while my son and i are seeing the Lumberjack Show
In Victoria, we're doing the Afternoon Tea at the Empress.

I'll be on this cruise with my wife and parents. We are first timers.

Welcome! I added you to the cruisers list. Please post and let us know if you'd like to join in on the Fish Extender exchange as well. There is lots of info about this on the main cruise forum as well as a quick summary about it on the previous page of this thread.

Apparent- my son is 4 also. Maybe we will run into each other. :)

I'm getting super excited! One month out for our trip!! We are spending 3 days in Seattle before the cruise.

I would love suggestions for fun things to do in Seattle and good restaurants. We are staying on pike place. Should be fun!

I don't think we will have room for fes although it sounds fun. Packing for 10 days for 4 people is a lot. Not to mention we are flying since we live in Texas.

Super excited!! I hope the ship is pretty empty will make for a relaxing time.

My family will be joining this cruise : DD age 11 and DS age 7 and myself. My Husband doesn't have the stomach for cruises so he will meet us when we disembark in Seattle(we are traveling from NY). pixiedust:

Jenny, there is a big thread in the main forum with stuff to do in Seattle. I can give you my suggestions, but you might want to dig up the big thread--it is way more comprehensive than anything I can post!

My kids LOVE the Aquarium. It is right on the waterfront. The new ferris wheel (Seattle's Great Wheel) is next door and also on the waterfront. These both are within walking distance of Pike Place Market--there is a staircase out the backside of the Market that makes the walk a lot shorter. Your four year old also might like seeing the (nasty!) gum wall that is underneath the Market. It is quite a draw for tourists!

If you walk farther along the waterfront, there is an indoor carousel that my kiddos love and then a bit farther along there is Ivars--which is a Seattle institution. It is a seafood restaurant (fish n chips) and it has covered and uncovered seating outside or there is a fancier restaurant inside. The street front restaurant is classic Ivars though.

The whole sidewalk between Ivars and the Aquarium is really wide and perfect for kids and families to wander along. Lots of shops to duck into. Ye Olde Curiousity Shop is crowded but fun--the back wall of the shop has display cases with artifacts like shrunken heads and stuff like that.

In the Pioneer Square area you could do the Underground Tour. I love it, but I haven't taken my kids (ages 8 and 6) because the air is a bit stale and I know my 6 year old would complain about some of the smells.

There is the "Ride the Ducks" tour that a lot of tourists do. Personally I can't stand it, but I know a lot of people like it. The Space Needle and the Pacific Science Center (with the King Tut exhibit) are at the Seattle Center.

If you are staying at Pike Place, you are right in the heart of things--walking distance to lots of stuff!

Welcome, magluk! I'll add you to the list. Any interest in doing the fish extender exchange?

Great, I'll add you to that list, too.

FE folks: we are getting close to the one month point. When do we want to close the fish extender signups?

I was just going to ask the same question about closing FE list. i would like to close by the end of July. How does July 31 sound? I just finished gifts for our Aug 5 Magic cruise to Canada (23 rooms) and can certainly manage this small group if we close it soon. Also, can you direct me to where on the boards I can find Seattle ideas as we are spending 3 nights before in town.

July 31 sounds good to me!! I'll need a little educating on the whole FE process. by the way, my fish extender came in the mail yesterday (thanks Etsy.com!) i'm getting so excited!!:yay:

We will need to start adding room # for FE. We are in stateroom 6626, my sister Helen (turning the big 50) , her 15 year old daugter, Mary and myself (Mary). names really help in case a stateroom gets changed or even better UPGRADED! That way you can be sure to match names with stateroom, and names on FE or door magnets.

Yes, we do need to do room numbers and names. Let's set the cutoff date at July 31st unless someone really feels strongly that it needs to be earlier.

And, by the way, if anyone wants to take on doing the FE organizing or whatever, please feel free! I've just been trying to keep our thread alive--but I'm a cruise novice and haven't done any of this before. I just wanted to make sure that we didn't get lost in the crowd because things are/were so quiet in our thread! :)

I think i mentioned this a few weeks ago, but on the site for Aug 5 Magic NYC to Canada, somebody started a google doc chart and posted the link. All FE participants entered their data and we simply printed it out at closing date. i work with Google Documents but dont know how to set up chart and link. Maybe somebody in our group can. Check it out on last page of that 8/5 Magic to Canada.

Our FE came earlier in the week. Etsy is a great place to get them if you don't have one. We haven't received our room number yet. I'll post it as soon as we receive it. Our family is getting so excited. Does everyone have their pirate costumes for pirate night?
