Wonder Returns to Galveston - November 6, 2015

Hi...has anyone been tracking weather? I keep checking weather at each port and doesn't look good. Has anyone traveled these ports during this type of weather before? Not to mention we have excursions planned at each port. I could use as much information or advice as possible. Thankyou in advance.

Hi.....now that you mention it, yes! We are driving in from California and have never been to Galveston. What should we be aware of, can anyone help me out? I'd like to be as prepared as possible. Thank you for bringing this up.

Nobody is saying anything about Galveston being flooded so we should be ok on that front. I am more worried about all the bikers that will be on the island and the road closures due to the rally.

Hard to say what the weather will do thanks to this being an El Niño year. I always take ponchos and this time I may pack an umbrella also. Spare shoes are always on my list as wet shoes are no fun. I am waiting until Friday to really look at the weather since it will be only a couple days out and "should" be more accurate. A little rain won't kill me as I have been told I am not sweet enough to melt

No, but I am all about printing out maps this time thanks to the rally!

Lol! Seems I've heard the same. We are driving in from California and I need to know as much as I can, since we're heading out Tuesday/Wednesday. But bringing an umbrella was a great suggestion. Do you bring simple throw-away ponchos or do you bring good quality? Do you think it matters?

I always have spare throw away ones sitting around, so I pack them. If you have good ones, then by all means pack them, but $1 ones work just as well and are easy to pack and carry.

I'm less worried about Galveston and port weather. We leave tomorrow, and reading about closed roads, flash flooding and even tornadoes in Texas has me concerned. Although I think that was closer to Austin, so not near our route... Safe travels everyone!

I am jealous! I am flying in Thursday, so 3 days of work this week Have a safe drive and I will see you at our haunted hotel. Don't pick up any hitchhiking ghosts along the way

What a difference a day makes. It looks like the FE's are CLOSED on this thread and we are now pixie dust only. Feel free to post your info and room # here and maybe someone will gift you Lisa, I see you have already joined the other FE group so I don't have to worry about you. That is what I thought! Keep it informal, you don't even have to get ice cream. We can pick a time, like 2 or 2:30 as everyone can go to their rooms at 1:30 and the muster drill will be sometime after 3:30(?) I think. Do it on day 1 so if we all don't like each other we know who to avoid the rest of the cruise

You can't tell me you are not just a little scared to be on the haunted floor? I don't know if I am buying into the old hotel and creaking theory. Hotels shouldn't creak unless they really are haunted! I am hoping to not be on the 5th floor I am not sure if I really need to be before the cruise!
As for the flight, I think I am going to try going to the airport early and jumping on an earlier flight. Why I thought I could wait until noon to fly is beyond me

Actually, we've stayed in a number of haunted hotels. I like old historic hotels like The Place d'Armes in the french quarters of New Orleans, The Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, etc. My son likes to investigate as well as research the stories for film projects, I like the history, and my daughter has always ignored it. Also the haunted attraction my son works at is in an old haunted hospital that does ghost tours and has been featured in a ghost adventure show, so we're not new to haunted. But I think my DD is finally old enough to get in the 'spirit' of things and is jumping at every noise. Our closet hinge creaks and she jumped a mile when I opened it, and came running out of the bathroom when the drain gurgled. But I will say, we went to the lobby floor haunted women's bathroom, and I didn't want to linger.
