Is the wonder getting room upgrades during drydock. When looking at pictures of rooms on the dcl website today I noticed pictures show beds like the dream. Anyone know?

I thought I had read they were doing maintenance that arose from the engine fire in Aug and an out of water inspection. Since they will have it dry docked for 10 days perhaps they will do an overhaul to the rooms. That would be nice.

I had not heard of an upcoming dry dock for the Wonder.

On the Panama Canal cruise, we asked Capt Thord about the Wonder's next dry dock. He said the new coating on the underside of the Wonder has reduced the need for routine dry docks because the hull can be cleaned with robots while in port.

He said the next dry dock will be like the one the Magic is undergoing right now (cabins, duck tail, etc), and that it is likely to be about 15 months after the Magic's. That puts it close to Feb 2015, which there have been rumors about. Given the size of the task to refit the cabins, I wouldn't expect the bed change-out to occur any sooner than that.

January 2014 is a 10 day that was just announced recently. 2 cruises were cancelled for it.

It has also been suggested that a major overhaul and dry dock on the Wonder would be delayed until after the Panama Canal expansion has been completed. It is anticipated that the Wonder will again go to Alaska in 2015.

The Wonder has updated bedding but not new beds/mattresses.

There are two different dry docks being discussed here:

There's the 10 day short dry dock in Jan 2014. Not much can/will be done during that one, as it's a short one.

The second is a 'reimagined' longer dry dock like the Magic is getting right now. It's speculated that will happen in 2015.

Yes, Aloft is the old teen club. The website has been full of glitches lately.

While the upcoming dry dock for the Wonder is a short one, I'm sure they can handle a couple of small projects. (They did some fairly big ones in 2 week dry docks.) So they might tackle something smaller while the ship is out of service anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if the beds are changed out (on the other hand, pictures and info on the website doesn't mean much -- they have some of the worst website support and information is often inaccurate, out-dated or referencing the wrong ship!)

But the focus of the drydock is on the mechanical aspects. There hasn't been any talk about anything non-mechanical happening. So I guess the answer to the original question is No, no one knows what is planned for drydock, we just know it won't be the extensive one like the Magic is getting now.

After being on her last month I can say I hope some painting is on the list- the bathrooms, especially by parrot cay, are in hideous repair- bare wood exposed under the door handles, big chips out of the door frames, icky. Also the chairs pretty much everywhere need replaced or reupholstered. The ap chairs are cracked with stuffing coming out, the chairs in diversions look like something you'd find at a bad garage sale. I really hope they clean her up- I didn't go looking for signs of age, they were apparent.

If the rumored Feb 2015 "reimagined" dry dock is true, I wonder when they would announce it? There are currently 4 sailings scheduled during that time... I love Disney but DCL is a little too "last minute" for me, LOL. I *need* (ok, strongly prefer) to plan several years out and knowing about a Wonder dry dock matters to my plans. Even just waiting for the rest of the 2015 schedule is killing me! Can't. Wait. Much. Longer. ...

My guess would be they are waiting on getting confirmation on when the Panma Canal expansion is done before committing any dates for dry dock

True- I am planning an Alaskan cruise and am heavily considering other lines. If a newly imagined wonder were sailing Alaska in 2015 however, that might affect my decision.

Well, current speculation (due to the construction problems they're having) is that it won't be done before June 2015. So I'd guess that the Wonder probably won't be re-imagined any earlier than the end of the Alaska season.

After seeing this post it sure does make my blood boil once again over the change of the ships for our December 2014 New Years sailing.
Originally booked because it would be a year old renewed Magic, just to find out 3 months after booking that The Wonder would be the one doing the sailing.
But now to find out that The Wonder is in bad need of repairs cosmetically, it really angers me that this switch was done. Very upsetting and disappointing.

(Sorry for the vent)

We were on Wonder in October. We did not find the condition was bad at all. There was some rust visible and worn out carpet in spots. We had a great vacation and we are booked on Wonder again for Alaska this summer. The Magic still has worn out spots despite her drydock. These are both older ships and will show some age. Enjoy your cruise.

This. I was on her last month and agree. FWIW my head waiter Nick (Sweden) said the big dry dock was scheduled for 2015.

Hmm. I'm as big a Disney fan as anybody, but I'm not an apologetic. There's no excuse for the condition of the chairs and woodwork in the public areas of that ship. My house was built in 1982- the doors aren't chipped to expose raw wood, my carpet is in fine condition, and there aren't crayon drawings all over the wall despite several children having grown up in it, and one living here now. My tubs don't smell like mildew, and in general it looks as nice as any house built last year- except maybe it's a little dated. If I can maintain my house, they can maintain their boat.
