Wonder drydock

We too got off the wonder on the 8th and I have to say I think she was in much better shape than the Magic was back on our Feb cruise. I noticed a few things here and there but nothing major or to the point where it bothered me

Thanks so much t1 for sharing your expertise. So could a ducktail be added to the Fantasy in 2026 when they add the AquaDive? :p

TIA

Your welcome.
Could they sure. Would they if they add something else or an Aquadive depends. Depends on what IMO decides in the meantime and what the marine engineer decides at that moment what's been added or changed in between etc. If the cog isn't severely affected prob not.

I must have missed it but what is an aquadive?

Something that hasn't been thought of yet. Its a theoretical ride/slide used as an example.

Oh ok! Sorry it's been awhile since I've been on the cruise board so I've not seen this until this thread. Thanks!!!!

Wonder working two cruises out of Mimia and then 10 days in dry dock. Part is going to be the 3 year hull inspection and service. It was reported i think in Aug that their was aledged generator fier and failure. This was the reason for the earlier that normal dry dock. No remodel has been mentioned. The plan to over haul Wonder has not been set and can not until third set of locks on Panama Canal are finished. The ship cannot make though locks 1 and 2 if remodeled like Magic will be to long.
I am sure there is a list of repairs to be worked on. Its a ship in salt water.

Most likely not.

The Wonder is due for her mandatory inspections by Sept 2014. I think what threw a monkey wrench into the plans, was drydock availability. The only dock big enough to take her and had time might have been Freeport, which is were she is going, Im guesing based on the limited time that she will be out of service. Realistically, she could go as late as Sept with the bad generator, or what ever is alleged to be bad, but if there is no drydock on the west coast to take her that puts DCL in a bind. The Magic did the same thing with her props in 2010, and if Im not mistaken, has had bad main engine that didnt run and she sailed with it for close to a year, until her scheduled drydock.

Another issue is that DCL likes to use foreign labor for drydocks, and the US has given DCL issues in the past getting work visas for contractors.

As far as making it throught the locks, there is a provision that would allow her to request a 1 time exception, but if the new locks are delayed again, then that puts DCL into another bind.

Does anyone know where the 2014 dry dock is going to be?

Jan 19th-29th 2014, if I had to guess, Id say Freeport due to the limited amount of time shell be out of service.

I'm not sure where people are getting that from all I can see on the panama canal site is they will make exceptions for cargo ships but not passenger ships.

The site that is up now, is not the same site from last year. Its been changed. The one previous version, had more details on the locks, sizes expansion links etc.

Oh my, t1. :rotfl: Didn't know it would create such a discussion. lol. :)

It proves the Disboard lurker theory, IMO. :scratchin

The Aquadive is a theoretical ride that doesn't exist. Well except in my mind. The ride was created for explanatory purposes only. It's all non-fiction,
Oh my.:rotfl2:

This thread is about info concerning the Wonder, perhaps now unfortunately it's, about propulsion and ducktails, even encompassing Dream Class vessels that have involved themselves into the discussion, unfortunately on my behalf.

This thread is not about Aqua Duck/Dunk/Dive. ;)

Thanks t1... Sorry to create a noise. It seemed obvious to me, but ....

:p

So no one else has heard about the AquaDive planned for the Dream Class vessels in 2026 ? :confused3

I read about this modification to the Dream Class that may occur during the heavy drydocks in future years. Not sure when this may occur, but .....

It's a modification of the AquaDuck, but you end up in the the ocean. It's cool, because they have a net of sorts that catches you, prior to prop grind. The ultimate rush. :thumbsup2 Odds are you may be brought back aboard, if you can hang onto the harness. You are launched from the AquaDuck, into the ocean aft, but directed aft with a harness into the ocean while underway. You have a few moments to collect fish if possible, then you are on your own to regain grip, and pull yourself back aboard. The ultimate ride and rush. I understand the non refundable fee/cost per person will be $35 - 40. Photos available for purchase of course @ $19.99/each.

;)

:faint: :scared1: Like I could hang onto anything

I thought it was where you were slingshotted from the bow to the midships pool that was elevated above the original.

Hmm, DH said we can't afford a cruise. Wait until 2026. Then he increases my life insurance policy. Then he gets me drunk on board and says - "Go, it's easy! You'll love it. It's not scarey at all." Kiss - plunk. :rotfl2:

I obviously watch too much Snapped.
