We had a verandah for Alaska and it was well worth in our estimation. We loved being able to keep our drapes pulled open and see all that beautiful coastline while we were getting ready for dinner or just relaxing. For us, Alaska was more than just Tracy Arm or the different ports. It was just flat out beautiful to see little fishing villages and houses dotting the coastline as we moved from port to port. The verandah was a great place for us to linger with a glass of wine and enjoy the long days. We saw whales swimming along side the ship on two different evenings. The water was so calm and eerily like a lake and we would have missed this all without a verandah. That being said, we sailed DCL in 2011 with a kids sail free discount and the 5B room for the four of us was $4500. sigh.... no more deals like that anymore. Seeing the current prices would give me pause to sail DCL in Alaska as much as I love the Disney product. Quite honestly, we would pick another cruise line should we decide to cruise there again.
