Women's College Softball 2024

Whew...juggling all this NCAA softball along with a high school graduation and conditioning for summer ball. It was a great weekend! I was sad to see TN knocked out, but pretty pleased with the rest. While I know it's due mainly to the in-state rivalry, DD15 found something discussing the price of supers tickets and how the UT/A&M tickets were starting at over $250 each for game 3. Not that I want to pay those prices, but it's great to see demand increasing.
Women's College Softball is just going to continue to get bigger and bigger IMO.

Such a FUN Sport-the smaller field provides a much better spectator experience than the huge Baseball fields IMO.

The women that play are so talented.

Just sitting here waiting on Thursday!

Some softball rule changes coming.

A double first base.

All walls to be padded by 2027.
Balls to be standardized in compression.
Outfield wall dimensions for all new stadiums to be standardized. I'm rather against this one. The reason is a field where the prevailing winds blow in should be made smaller in the outfield than a field where the prevailing wind blows out.
Knob requirement on bats eliminated.
Time clocks to be installed.
One way electronic communication allowed.

Agreed! It’s a much faster game, which makes it more interesting to watch. You don’t realize how slow baseball is until you get into watching Fastpitch softball. At least the AUX season for Athletes Unlimited gets underway in June, so we won’t be without for too long after WCWS ends.

The love is for the safety bag at first and the padding. I know a lot of people have been begging for that change at 1B.

Odds from FanDuel.

  • Oklahoma (-170)
  • Texas (+400)
  • Oklahoma State (+1200)
  • Florida (+1200)
  • UCLA (+1200)
  • Stanford (+1600)
  • Duke (+3000)
  • Alabama (+4000)

Not a great way to start the WCWS!

Weather is one negative to having the WCWS in Oklahoma this time of year.

Could be a LONG day.

Looks like we are inevitably headed for a Sooners/Longhorns Final.

Likely a preview of next season's SEC Championship as well.

Well Stanford pulls a Stanford. Terrible first game and then they come back with a shut out.
Duke Eliminated. Oklahoma St. Eliminated.

Next up for Stanford. The Loser of Oklahoma vs UCLA.
Next up for Alabama. The loser of Texas vs Florida

Looks like Texas is giving Florida a preview of what Texas and Oklahoma will be bringing to the SEC next Season!lol

Florida was run ruled. You don't see that everyday. Texas 10 Florida O

Two good "Conference" games today.

An SEC showdown between Alabama and Florida and the LAST PAC 12 GAME EVER between Stanford and UCLA.

I always have trouble watching a Florida Softball game because one of the many reasons I prefer Women's Softball over Men's Baseball is that Women's Softball players and coaches don't constantly SPIT-except for Florida Head Coach Tim Walton!

And he has taken the "art" of spitting up a notch and spits through his teeth-GAROSS!

I know he spits because of his College Baseball background, but someone needs to tell him,to paraphrase a line from A League of Their Own:

THERE IS NO SPITTING IN SOFTBALL!lol

Oklahoma in big trouble.

Looks to be headed to a second game with Florida tomorrow.

They didn't pitch Maxwell today and instead went with May. I really don't agree with that. Maxwell's rested. Trot out your ace.
Absolutely!

And Alabama Coach Patrick Murphy brought out a Pitcher against Florida in the 6th inning who was seldom used all year and hadn't pitched IN A MONTH,and she was promptly greeted with a 3 run Home Run which was the difference in the game.

It seems like Alabama and Oklahoma are doing all they can to put Florida in the Finals!

I am calling the pitching decisions MURPHY'S MUSTAKE and GASSO'S GAFFE!lol

I was saving that Tide choke for a special occasion too. HAHAHA. 4 of the 6 runs given up by Alabama were given up by pitchers other than the starter. That's just bad. One thing about softball is that they just don't manage their pitchers very well. That's probably because they don't have to very much.

Stanford lost with their ace on the mound. But she only gave up 1 run. And that was in that run down which wasn't her pitching.

Never risk throwing it home too late. If they make it back to third, it's bad, but not as bad as if they make it home.
