I'll preface this by saying, feel free to do whatever you want with your body; it is your body afterall. But I have a question.

Why do some women place these huge masculiine tatoos on their bodies? I'm not talking about something small and discreet ( and sometimes very nice ). I'm talking something, say 6" x 6" or larger.

I have nothing against tatoos. In fact, I once got real drunk so that I could get a tattoo, and the tattoo artist wouldn't give me one. But even then, it was only gonna be a 3" version of Foghorn Leghorn, on my upper arm.

I see huge tatoos on women's legs, right above their butts, and even on the backs of their hands.

I think more women than men get tatoos now. But why choose such big, manly tatoos? Kind of creeps me out, I must say.

I have one bigger then 6x6 on my left shoulder, but it is an Angel with a baby girl(my daughter). and I have a skull on my right shoulder........all soon to be just part of a "bigger picture" I am in the process of having my whole back done from left to right...neck down to my butt!
as for WHAT is done, there are different reasons...different tastes. It is a personal thing!
and NO if your drunk they will NOT tatt you, due to bleeding etc when having it done!

I have a small one that I would dearly love to be rid of. I got it 13 years ago, and it has my ex hubby's name in it  . I know I know dont ever get someones name permanantly tatooed on your body.

I dont know why some people are really drawn to them. I think they just like to express themselves in different ways.

I have 2. One of a rose on the outter part of my right wrist and one of a butterfly on my left arm. There cute and colorful and small. Tattoos can be addicting. I just love them. That being said, I wouldn't allow my dd's to get one.....Not until there older and realize that tattoos can be permanent...

Your kids are still sleeping?

I don't know why women choose to get tattoos Papa Deuce. I don't know why men choose it either. Looks terribly painful to get one applied. The best answer is "to each his own". I guess all our differences is what makes us interesting.

Thank GOD you didn't get that tattoo! It's the kind of tattoo one might regret later.
I'm planning on one for my two sons that will take up my entire upper back from shoulderblade to shoulderblade.

For me, it expresses who I am as an individual, I spent a good portion of my life trying to "fit in" and miserable beacuse I didn't. I wondered why I wasn't one of the crowd till I realized it was the wrong crowd I was trying to fit into.
My tattoos make me feel strong and powerful almost like a talisman.
They express who I am without my even opening my mouth.

Does that make sense?

I'd love to see pictures of your work. Who does it for you? What is the entire backpiece going to be of?
I can't wait till October so I can go and get inked again!

Pap,a you know whats going to happen! You'll tell your daughters not to get a tattoo, and then they'll run out and get one just to make you mad! :earseek:

My parents were against women getting tattoos, and now I have a small one! LOL! :cool1:

I grew up in military towns with tattoo parlors on every corner! LOL!!!!! :D

I have a sun on the inside of my left leg, about 1/2 way between my ankle and my knee. I love it! I just measured it, it is 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 - not too large. I plan on getting another on Mother's Day, something to honor my two sons. I'm not sure what it will be yet, but it will be on my shoulder.

If I wasn't such a big chicken, I'd go get one. I don't know what it would be of though..probably a set of teenyweeny footprints with DS's birthdate.

Diana,
A friend of mine is a tattooist, he owens several shops in Mass and NH. I am in the middle of drawing up some work. then I will run it by him. let him play with it. I love Fanasty I also have Tink on my arm, I was going to work up a half sleeve to run into my back...1/2 of Disney...with the castle at the top of my shoulder....still a WIP.....It will take awile....

My sister is a tattoo artist in St. Louis. Before she learned her trade, she had a full back tattoo of a sword through a skull. The skull is in the middle of her back and the handle of the sword stretches full shoulder blade on each side. The tip of the sword is at her pants line. She also has thorns around her neck. Since she began tattooing, she has added a demon-like thing on her chest--much to the dismay of our VERY Catholic mother. My other sister and I do not have tattoos. For Cat I think it was her way of "breaking out" of the norm and what was "expected" at our home growing up. It's also a form of personal expression.

She will not work on anyone under the influence of anything, she won't work on minors, and she warns people NOT to get other people's names tattooed on them unless it's their kids or something. But, if they want it done, she does it--but she teases them when they come back for a cover-up!!!!

Because when the page opened and I saw this thread I thought it said "Women with Tacos" :rotfl: And my first thought was "Oh no, what has Papa Deuce done now!?!"

:earboy2:

I have a med. size tattoo in the small of my back. I got it when I was in the Navy, right of passage I think. I love and mostly because no one knows it's there. I got it for me and no one else.

I have never seen a tatoo on anyone, male or female that I even remotely like. I would never, ever consider getting a tatoo. I cannot think of any design or color, or shape that I would want to look at for the rest of my life. Jimmy Buffet's song, "A permanent reminder of a tempory feeling" sums it up!

I have nothing against tatoos. I personally wouldn't want one, but I have no problem with them on others. My only concern when I see people (both sexes) with large tatoos is what they will look like when these folks get older. They look great on young, wrinkle-free bodies. What will they look like when these folks are 80?

I'm 45, Well o/k 46. Had a birthday last month and this past summer got my first Tatoo. I love it. It's on my ankle and it's a hidden Mickey. Nothing fancy just three black circles. I am so happy I did this and don't know what took me so long. My sister has gotten so many large tatoos over the years. Yes they are pretty but that's not for me. But if it makes her happy then I'm happy too. To each his own! :earsboy:

I just wonder about the people who get their arms covered since so many businesses do not allow them to be shown. You wouldn't think they would want to work in long sleeve shirts all the time.

They are not at all for me and it's not something I like but that is probably mostly because there are needles involved. I just don't see how people can sit there and willfully let someone poke them with a needle when it isn't medically necessary. :faint:
