Ok so if you have a yeast infection and you use Monistat, how long does it take to clear up/stop itching/etc? Sorry it doesnt say on the package and I'm in misery over here.

You warned us, but with a title like that, no way we can't help but look...

Usually about 2-3 days; however, I will say that the stuff sometimes doesn't work that great. You may need two treatments. Also, the 1-day treatments don't work as well as the 3-day treatments.

And then there's the issue of whether you really have a yeast infection or not....

Ok so if I'm not good in 2 days, get another one?

What else can it be? I had all the right symptons.

I have no idea, but maybe a doctor's visit might be in order.

no insurance means no dr. my moms a nurse, she told me its a yeast infection. she told me to get the monistat thing. so i used that llast night.

I'm sorry. Our health system is nuts.

Do you eat yogurt? It's supposed to help. :)

Unfortunately, I recently had a bout of these after taking antibiotics.

You should have some relief from your symptoms within a day or two, but it takes 7 days before the entire infection clears up. (This is the same whether it's the one-day, three-day or seven-day treatments). If you still have symptoms after 7 days, then either try another treatment or see your doctor. He/she can either prescribe a stronger medicine or determine if there is another cause. (My pharmacist also believes the 3-day or 7-day treatments are more consistent in their results than the 1-day.)

Are you really prone to yeast infections? Well I guess not if you are asking about it. Anyways, if you start becoming prone to them the over counter stuff will take forever to take effect. I now have a never ending prescription for the yeast infection bill, fluconase. For right now eat LOTS of yogurt. If you don't like it fix it up with some fruit and gronola cereal. If you don't have any relief in by Monday I would say it's time to see the doctor. Hope you feel better.

O No. I wonder if I should get the 3 day too. Ive already used the one day but maybe I could use the three day right now too? I just want this all cleared up in the next 8 days before I leave for WDW!!!

I'm thinking no intercourse during the infection correct?

Also I just finished taking amoxicillan and I was starting to wear thongs so I think I've found the cause of infection lol.

You are correct, no intercourse while having the infection or you would have one unhappy partner that scratched like mad ;) I don't know that thongs set up infections. You said that you just finished up some amoxicilan so that is more than likely what caused the yeast infection. Very common to get that infection after antibiotics. (Side note: I don't know if you are on the BC pill but it has less effectiveness while on antibiotics)

If you took the one day treatment yesterday, wait until tomorrow to see if you are feeling better. If not, then try another treatment.

I don't like yogurt so I take a ACIDOPHILUS (found in the vitimin section) pill during these times.

It will also help if you make a solution of vinegar and water. Just use a soaked cotton ball and wipe the area. The vinegar changes the Ph of the area and the yeast cannot grow as well. The combination of doing that, letting it dry and then applying the monistat should give you relief within a day or so.

You can also put a little of the monistat cream on the external areas that are itchy- that should give you some quick relief.
I've found that switching to all-cotton undies and going 'commando' at night were the best things to prevent recurring infections. Also, some women are sensitive to soaps and/or shower gels, so keep them away from your girly parts especially while you are healing.

Since you used the 1-day treatment, just wait another day or 2. If the symptoms do not go away, then go buy the 3-day treatment and use that. Also remember that the cream itself can be irritating and may cause secondary symptoms.

Yea the cream is crap. Sorry I"m a little testy. I itch like out of control itching. And I think I"m going to be getting my period soon. At least I hope its not late or otherwise I'll ahve it in WDW. I had to call out of work sick and I'm out of sick days so I dont get paid for today b/c I am itchy!

Yeah, the 1-day stuff is pretty harsh. It is designed to be kind of "clingy" so even though it is a 1-day treatment it is working "up there" for a few days. I think that the inert ingredients they use in the stuff to get it to linger around are harsh.

I always do the 7 day stuff and usually get it when I take antibiotics.

No thongs, no sex, no baths, watch the soap, commmando is good at night and only cotton underware.
Eat yogurt...

There is a pill you can take to prevent yeast infections. My sister gets it prescribed to her when she gets antibiotics. I don't know what it is though.

We use to have midwives on our OB/GYN office and she always recommended the ACIDOPHILUS pills, but yogurt will work much quicker. DO NOT TAKE HOT BATHS!! That will make a very nice toasty place for the yeast to grow! Also..my DD got one once and the pedi told me to put about a 1/4c of vinagar in the water of a tub and do a "sitz" bath...she said "She'll smell like a salad, but it will work"
If your mom is a nurse, can she get some Mycolog? That is the best perscription and very cheap since it has generic
