Woman plans meals for the entire year - must be a DISer, right?

it kinds of irritiates me that during the entire interview she has her kid on her hip--- she is even chopping the tomato with the kid---put him down!!

I guess she could just do a two month or three month plan and then repeat it, right? She wouldn't actually have to plan 365 meals. I wish the report gave more details.
I agree with some of the other posters here. I think we are better off planning for a shorter time period, based on what is seasonal/on sale around that time. Plus having stuff in the freezer/pantry for some go-to meals when unexpected things come up!!

You really don't see a difference in planning EVERYTHING you will eat for the next 365 days in a row and planning in advance for a vacation? If you want the best price on airfare and hotels, you need to plan ahead. If you are craving a burger, you may have to wait a month until it shows up on the menu. Big difference.

It seems that it is mostly to be able to buy whats coming up on sale, and to be able to know that if chicken goes on sale and I have it planned 6 times in the next three months that 6 is how many I need to buy. I'm betting that there is some flexibility as to a dinner out or if the power goes out or if they splurge and have pizza.

Call me crazy, but I have a meal plan on my fridge for the next 3 months. Granted, about every 3rd day is leftovers. I do write in pencil and make changes when I need to--do not have the ingredients, not feeling like cooking, not in the mood for what I had on the menu. For me it is just a way to do the shopping for the week and keeps me accountable, for the most part, about not having a clue what to make for dinner. It has saved us numerous times from calling for a pizza or just picking up some fast food.

I also make two casseroles when making something that can be frozen. Then I can pull out the frozen one a month or so later. I have five kids and a husband, so i am thinking the second casserole will be served for dinner pretty soon--their appetites are ever increasing!!

I saw this on GMA and thought "she's nuts"! Good for her, but no way would I ever do it.

wow, someone has too much time on her hands :scared1:
I don't know what I'm going to have for dinner tomorrow, let alone in a year from now.

I second that! I'm not a planning person like that. Thank god I'm single with no kids, then I would have to plan out meals.

That is what I thought too! And that boy wasn't "little" to me...too big for mom to be holding while making dinner. Give him an electronic device for pete's sake and make dinner! :rolleyes1

I did scroll down to see if I could come up with a pattern but did not see one. I would have the entire summer blocked off with "DH IS BARBECUING TONIGHT" written in. Guess they don't barbecue at all.

I can manage three days in advance in a good week. But there are always pizza nights, Arby's nights, and "if you can find it you can eat it" nights. :)

So I'm not the only one that has a fend for themselves night!! :lmao::cool1:

Wow! I would love to be able to plan my meals for the year!

Don't get me wrong...I'm impressed with her organizational skills and planning.
However, I did notice that a lot of the meals weren't the healthiest, lots of boxed/processed items. Plus, lots of repeats. It reminds me of a school lunch menu...
As a pp said, some healthier cooking would/should incorporate some fresh seasonal items.
I'm wondering what the success rate of sticking to the menu is!

:laughing:We call it "Every man for himself..." Even DD7 loves finding something on her own!

(I do cook well for my family most of the time!)

I cook most of the time but sometimes (mostly weekends) I just don't feel like it..plus my kids are teens so they know how to cook and if they don;t they can find something and they LOVE these nights b/c I don't say anything about what they have...;)
