Woman Dies After Riding "Mission: Space"

You slime covered, putrid, pititful excuse...

Because This is a discussion board and I for one like to have meaningful discussion.

Oh, sorry, this is the abuse board - the discussion board is 2 doors down.

I wouldn't bet too much money on that.

It would be nice if they did, and made it more family oriented! :thumbsup2

For me, I'd just as soon leave this world on a ride in WDW than sitting in my recliner at home.

Some like MS, some don't. Disney will probably do nothing to change the ride

If Mission Space isn't already percieved as a serious problem, it's probably only going to take one more person in the near future who - heaven forbid - has an unknown medical condition and becomes the next fatality. It probably won't matter if they would have passed on that night during their sleep anyway - Epcot then becomes the theme park with the dangerous attraction that has to go.

There are many, MANY warning signs on MS saying DO NOT RIDE if you suffer from a long list of medical conditions. High BP is one of them. Wasn't it the woman's responsibilty to know she has high BP and to skip the ride? I wonder how many people KNOW they suffer from some of the high risk conditions, and yet, they still ride. I know I do.

I think this is the problem...people don't heed the warnings. Why?

1. Because it's Disney. People come to the parks and think, "what could go wrong...it's Disney?" They think that it's a family place and Disney would not make a ride that is dangerous for families. I used to work at Body Wars and I can't even count the number of pregnant women who used to ride, despite the warnings. Disney wanted us to stop those who "looked pregnant" from riding, but after stopping a couple of women who weren't, that went out the window. Guests would repeatedly ignore the warnings.

2. Because they have the same warnings for very different rides. For example, someone who has just ridden Star Tours or Test Track with a condition will think that they can ride M:S or ToT because they all have the same warnings. But the intensity of these rides are very different.

I think they should do something to let folks know which rides could cause problems, and which rides are EXTREME! Put on the guide maps a big red Intense or Extreme warning on rides such as ToT or M:S so folks know to stay away if they have a medical condition.

I also agree with the poster (sorry, can't find the post again) that said that M:S doesn't have the OMG factor that rides such as ToT or SM have. On those rides you can see beforehand what you are getting into, whereas I think many guests enter M:S thinking its a motion simulator like Star Tours. They need to be warned that it is a centrifuge and that it is INTENSE.
