We leave for WDW in two days

We've got the DXDP and were thinking of trying Wolfgang Puck Cafe. When I tried to make an ADR there months ago (through Disney) I was told they were only doing walk ups, so we planned to just do that.
Then last week I was reading that some of the restaurants which don't do ADRs through Disney (I think Big River Grill was the one in question) do take reservations through their own system. So I called WPC and indeed they do take reservations, except they are all booked on the night we were planning to go there. They did say they'll still do walk-ups though.
Anyone done a walk up at WPC for dinner (particularly during free dining)--how long did you wait? We do have a backup ADR at Spoodles for that night, but we've been there numerous times and I don't really want to go there again. But I also don't want to wait hours for dinner at WPC. I called to try to change the back up to something less like a second choice/something new thinking we could just skip WPC, but the few restaurants I had in mind didn't have availability until 8:30 or later. We're planning to do Pleasure Island that night and I don't want it to be 10:30pm or later when we get there.
What would you do?
