Woe is me!

Yeah we bought 100 points at BWV in 2012 for $73pp. Could have gotten 200 points instead for $60s at that time. Really kicking myself for that one.

I clicked on the link to the 2013 ROFR thread! Someone needs to put a warning on that...

Akv in the 60's?
BCV for for 70pp?
BLT in the 80's!!!!

FYI - Don't look at the late 2010/early 2011 thread then. 8-)

The resales prices in the last ten years have essentially just gone up with the increases in DVD's new sale prices, and DVD, despite the Great Recession, stagnant wages over the 10 years, and a total inflation rate of 17% over that entire ten year period, has aggressively raised new sale prices over 80%, and, of course, blames any slowing sales on the resale market.

We took a long pause before jumping on a BCV contract in 2014. I mean, if we went into another recession and prices dumped again, we could be left holding the bag on a very overpriced contract.

Who would want to own an $84/point BCV contract if current contracts on the market could be had for $70?

At every point in the process, there's a chance that prices could go up, or a risk that prices could go down after you buy. Even with DVC. The 2010-2014 pricing was the result of a recession and another one could (will at some point) happen.

In retrospect, however, that BCV contract turned out to be a phenomenal deal. Especially since it avoided all but the first set of restrictions, and those were poor uses of points, anyway.

But that retrospect is just that. It's not like we bought thinking prices would skyrocket after we bought. We bought with some very clear doubts about how prices would go, and pulled the trigger anyway.

In 2014 we bought OKW instead of AKV because we didn't want to pay $78/point (our loaded 150 pt OKW was $68/pt). Guess who just bought a 50 point AKV for $123/pt.

I bought Grand Cal from Disney for $72 a point with matching developer points and no closing costs. I remember when we were considering buying my conscience saying.. "buyers always regret not buying enough points" so, we bought 220 instead of the 110 we were originally going to buy. Of course we ended up selling them before they skyrocketed in price, but still made a tidy profit and had some great stays.
