WOC Viewing Chart

our dinner res is for 5 pm...Even if we finish dinner by 6 I really don't like the idea of having to wait over 2 hours for a show with a 6yo and a 4yo. I was hoping since we had the dinner res that we would be able to head in about 45mins early, 1 hour tops...wishful thinking i guess.
It depends on much you want to have a good view for your young children. If I were you I would line up early. Again, not sure for the 8:15 but I would go as soon as AG was over. They will let you into the viewing area early - for the 9PM show they let you in at 7:15-7:30. Then you can sit down in your spot. If you have another adult with you then you can have one of you save your spots and your kids can leave for awhile then come back closer to show time.

I am starting to think that Disney may have dropped the ball with how they are handling crowd control. Having to wait over 90 mins for a show during the off season is a little ridiculous imo...
Yep. The show is so fantastic it is worth it in the end. IMO. But it is a hassle and in hindsight Disney could have done a better job.

:wizard:

Thank you, Hydro Guy. I think I'm confused because I've seen the "map" you linked and a different one. The "best" area on this one was considered blue, not PD on the other one. That's why I've had trouble. Wish I could find it to link to it, but it's aerial rather than overhead photos if that helps.

I guess I was hoping to not have to line up that early (that's why we're paying for the dining). There are lots of other things we'd rather do than stand around for a few hours to get a standing spot to watch the show. Hope it's worth it...:confused3

FWIW I saw WOC this weekend from the preferred dining section (marked "best" on the map) and from the front yellow splash zone, right next to the water. Here are my observations:

1) The view from behind is nice, I enjoyed the show, could see the screens well, and was quite pleased with the view

2) However, after watching from the front next to the water....THERE IS NO COMPARISON! The front rail was so much better, so much more grand, so much more to see, it was a fully immersive experience.

3) I didn't get wet, hardly even a mist

4) Personally, it seems to me worthwhile to get a spot where you can see THE SURFACE OF THE WATER. Not seeing the surface I think takes away from the entire experience and the wonder of what they have put together.

5) I didn't watch it from there, but I'm guessing if you had a blue fast-pass the Bridge would a GREAT (and guaranteed dry) location to see the show - as long as you were next to the rail.

Well there are my two cents.

I have a few questions since there is only 1 showing at 8:15 Monday - Thursday:

1. What time should we line up outside of DCA to try and get in the "Blue" section?

2. When we get in line for WoC, is there a line/area for those with disabilities to go to?

3. Can I send in my DH to get my FP or do I need to get it?

Thanks

I have a few questions since there is only 1 showing at 8:15 Monday - Thursday:

1. What time should we line up outside of DCA to try and get in the "Blue" section?

They will let you in 30 min prior to opening, so if DCA opens at 10 am, you can get in at 9:30. Our experience from two weeks ago is that most people will head to straight to the WOC FP machine at that time. We actually went and rode Soarin first, which you pass on the way to the FP machines, then went to get the FPs after the crowd. We got there close to 10 am and still got Blue. We saw - and I asked each of the3 days we were there - and the CMs said pretty much FPs are gone by 11 - noon on days with only one showing.

When you first walk into DCA in the a.m., there is a CM right there to direct people and a sign that say to speak to him/her if you need special assistance.

2. When we get in line for WoC, is there a line/area for those with disabilities to go to?

I think the CM I referenced above would be of great help to you. My understanding, from what I have read on these boards, is that while there is not a special line for those with disabilities (you line up for your color section with everyone else), they will let those with disabilities into each section first, and there is a certain spot for you and your family in each section so that you have the room necessary and will not have your view blocked.

3. Can I send in my DH to get my FP or do I need to get it?

You can send your DH; however, your park ticket must be activated by you (scanned at the entrance turnstyle) that day at either DCA or DL before he can use it to get the FPs. So you would not be able to, for instance, stay at the hotel that morning while he went to get the FPs. You could, though, both enter the park and then talk to that special CM while he goes to the actual machine. Or, if you had gone to DL earlier that morning (since it will probably open 1 - 2 hours prior to DCA), you could stay at DL while he goes to DCA for the FPs.[/

Thanks

Hope that helps!

Edited to add:

On another thread, it was recently reported that the FPs are running out sooner than the 11 - noon we experienced, so go first thing.

I'm glad that "Silence" was smarter than I was. :goodvibes

FWIW, the following info might be helpful to someone.

According to a CM at the WOC entrance:

The line for the preferred dining (10:15pm show) is near the Water Wheel area:

And according to a CM at the Water Wheel area:

On the right side in the next photo, you can see a brown pole and a black lamp, which is apparently where the front of the line for the preferred dining (10:15 show) starts (opposite the San Francisco bathrooms):

At 7:15pm one of the Lead CMs was nice enough to let me wait near the front of the line for the preferred dining section. :wizard:

:earsboy:

Can someone confirm that this is still where we line up for the preferred dining section? (I can't quote with photos because I don't have enough posts - sorry!)

I just wanted to add a couple of things relating to the nights when there is a single show since I didn't find much information before we went.
To the person that asked about how early to line up to get Blue - one thing to note is that the Disneyland Resort guests (those staying in one of the on-property hotels) are able to enter the park at the GCH entrance and get their fast passes at 9am - we did have to show our room key to use this entrance. I would think that if you are using the main entrance you would want to do so at 9:30. The day we were there (Wed. 10/6), the fast passes were gone by 11am I am pretty sure.

Also, they don't seem to line people up by section when there is only one show. There are just massive groups of people that they herd around starting at about 6:20 I think. I had tickets for Blue and the group/herd I was in seemed to be Blue, Yellow, and Preferred Dining tickets. I felt that it was very unclear where to wait prior to 6:20 and then all of a sudden there was just a big group forming - different cast members tell you different things about where to wait. Apparently they bring in different cast members from Disneyland each night so not all of them are very familiar with the process. We had to wait until 7:15 before they let us in. By the way, I just hung around the blue/white tower watching to see where the line would be so I was there right when they allowed people to start grouping up.

Personally, I found the process to be very frustrating - I much prefer a line to a herd as in a herd, the pushiest people seem to "win". And there was so much unknown in the process that the waiting was a bit tense.
Oh well - it was a great show and my whole family loved it! Next time we might try to brave the wet zone!

So if there was a herd- is there at least a cast member controlling which sections people were allowed into?

So if there was a herd- is there at least a cast member controlling which sections people were allowed into?

Yes they let people assemble in a big group and then they open a little hole in the edge of it creating a line of people going into the color sections. They check your FPs then.

I totally agree that Fastpass is just the wrong term for them to use. It confuses people. Call it a Showpass, Entrance Pass, Show Ticket.....ANYTHING but a Fastpass!

Your grandson, because he doesn't need paid park admission, won't need a Fastpass, so you would only be required to purchase your own picnic meal
, if that's the route you decide to take.

Thanks! This is EXACTLY the answer to my question I've been looking for! :thumbsup2

The left side is the entrance for Blue where they take your Fastpass. Hand them your Fastpass take one step forward, duck under the rope (not always there) and two-three steps to the rail. The spot is just inside the area behind the yellow fire hydrant. It is very easy to get to, as it usually is not filled until most are already inside. You do not need to line up an hour early to get this spot. And, you are the first to leave saving another 5-10 minutes in a crowd.

Downsides: there is only space for 6-8 people to see well. Small children or people under 5' can have difficulity seeing if they are too far from the top.

However, this is the view with a normal lens (not wide angle).

This spot ROCKS! We ended up here rather randomly, as we got a late start. The early crowds had already packed the front, and I didn't want to be stuck in the middle of a large crowd, so we went back up the ramp and stood behind the railing. I had read this post, and told another family with kids it should be a good spot per your report. It was great! We actually moved the kids from a third family in front of us so they could see too. I'd love to see this from up front, but if not up front this was a good place :).
Thanks for sharing, your tip was great!

well, it isnt because Disney is dropping the ball on handling crowd control, its more of ppl wanting to wait in front of the queue area trying to get the best spot...

I think reading the whole thread has me more confused...

Okay so there is really no way to try to get a "fp" for a later show except just show up later and get some random color? :confused3 I mean what if we wanted 11:15 show- is there any way to know when to get the fp to get a section we want? If we wait too long we may get 11:15 red and if we go too early we'll get 10:15 red? I'm so confused.

It's not random at all. The ticket are distributed in order, blue, yellow red. First show then for the second and then third if there are mutliple shows.

You can find great data through the thread linked below on what times tickets were distributed. But, your will have to make some guess on if the data provided by Disneyland1951 will match the days you are going.

Well I understood it goes in "order" like that- but I meant it was really kinda random which you would get- particularly seems like it would be harder to try to get blue for the later showing, easier to try to get blue for first showing (just attempt to be first getting fp! LOL)

It seems like it's very possible you don't time it right and end up if you're a bit too early you could get red for first show... if you're a bit too late, yellow for later show. KWIM? Seems like it will be hard to time it "just right" to get blue for 2nd show. Does it tell you what you're gonna get before you do it? Probably not, so it's kinda random... it goes in order but the timing would probably depend on how many had already got their FP's before you. Right? And then once it's done, it's done. Not like you can wait a bit and try again to get blue for 2nd show if you happened to end up getting red for early show, right? :(

You are only allowed one FP per person for WOC so cant have another attempt if you get it wrong.
However there are CMs there by the machines and they will be able to tell you which showing they are distributing at the time and an estimated time they will be moving onto the next show. Although you may need to return a few times if the number of people geting them is slower than estimated
We did this in October as we wanted tickets for the 3rd showing that night. We returned a few times and towards the end they were able to tell us how many tickets were actually left in the machine

Oh okay.
So that's good I guess. I mean it may take more work but at least you CAN go to that extra effort to get what you want, if you're willing to do all that. At least that's an option open for ya. Thanks!

This WOC Viewing Chart is generally correct (based on reports from July 4 to July 11), with the exception of this post by tholczer.

Here are Disneyland_1951's comments for the above viewing chart:

The black line is the exact centerline for the show.

To get a good view at the rail, you need to arrive at the entrance queue before 7:00 for the 9:00pm show, and fight the crowd for the good spots.

Yellow Section: The yellow wet zone is in the center. The sides towards the center are very good, however the first and third tiers towards the center are reserved for Handicapped only. All yellow is good, the further back and towards the center the better.

Red Section: The only good view is the lower tier near the center in the red Wet Zone. The edge towards the center fills up very early and gives you an OK view.

Blue Section: Fills up very quickly and the best view is the top tier next to the VIP section. Or fight the early crowd and get the lower front row rail in the blue Wet Zone.

Preferred Dining Section (9:00 and 10:15pm shows only): (Buy a $40 dinner) fills out a little slower, but the front center is small and fills up early. The third tier below VIP is a great view (just below the VIP section). The stairs are OK, but many late-arriving Yellow section "Guests" after arguing with the cast members overrun the cast and invade the "Reserved" section.

Please note:

The "Blue Bridge" Section is accessed using the Blue FPs; there are no "Blue Bridge" FPs. (Some people with Blue FPs prefer to watch the show from the bridge instead of watching the show from inside Paradise Park in the Blue section.)

VIP Section: To stand at the back of the VIP section on the top tier you need to know a bigwig at DLR and have your name added to the "list." They are not sold. To sit on a bench you need to be a big enough Celebrity to have your own personal "Plaid" escort. It is well monitored by several Sr. Staff and is completely separate from the other sections.

HTH :earsboy:

Is this the MOST current chart of the viewing area?? I've seen a few floating around on here and I just wanted to make sure that I'm basing my decision on where to go, on a current chart. Has anyone been this month (Jan) and how were the crowds?

I'm going mid week at the end of Feb/beg March so they will only have 1 show at 8:15pm. Based on this chart, I'm hoping to get a wet zone, rail spot in Yellow. I haven't seen much info on where to line up (seems it always changes???) and when. Much of the info posted, or at least what I've seen, has been for summer time when they have 2 or more shows and for blue/red sections. So for one show next month, Yellow rail section...how would I do this? I have a small child and *hope* to get front and center. I will not be buying a picnic or dinner and can get to DCA as early as I need to. However, I see there's a another chart on when each color FP is distributed. Is that current too??

Any help would be much appreciated! For some reason I've had a difficult time understanding all of this...just seems like more trouble then it's worth and parts of me just want to "bag it". Maybe now that it's been 6+ months, things have settled down a bit and gotten more organized?:confused3

Thanks for the kind feedback.
Compare this shot from the "BEST" HD video in the VIP section.........

Again to get this spot... Show up at 9:15 at Cal Adventure, when it opens at 9:30 go the the WOC Fastpass machines and wait in line 10-15 minutes, you should receive a blue fastpass.
No need to show up and wait with the herd until after they let people in to the viewing section, as they are directed to the front... No waiting to be let in.

Cost: $0.00, Time saved: 30 minutes to 2 hours.
