WOC for the short little ones

We saw WOC years ago when DD was just one, and it was really difficult to wait with her that long as well as impossible for her to see once everybody stood up. Since then, we've never tried to watch it, except for me standing in the very back to catch the show while everyone else rode Ariel.

I want to see the new show this year, and I was planning for just me to get the FP and the rest of my fam can go do something else. But I was wondering if things might have changed, and it might be easier for my DDs to see the show. They love F!, so they might enjoy this one, too. My DH doesn't like sitting and waiting long, but if I thought the girls could actually see, he would.

Any thoughts?

We did WOC from the Carthay Circle viewing area, right along the rail area. DGD is 7 and she could see just fine. So I guess it depends on where you plan to view.

Not much has changed. Unless you get the $$$$ dining package, viewing is tough for a kid. My 5-year-old wants to see it, but has agreed he will wait until he is taller because we tried the original show once when he was 3 and he couldn't see anything.

Hmmm. I didn't want to do the CC package, but I might consider the WCT if i was certain they would be able to see.

You do still have to show up pretty early to snag your railing spot, as they fill up fast in all areas. We did the CC package and came late and stood behind lots of people...

They haven't markedly change the viewing areas recently, so the same recommendations still apply. You have to show up early if you want a rail spot, otherwise, it's the luck of the draw whether you get lucky and stand behind a bunch of short guests.

All right. Looks like it's a mommy night at WOC! :) How early do I have to show up for a decent I can see spot if it's just me?

No snark in this...but how tall are you? My sense is that if you're short, it doesn't matter if your solo or in a group. You still have to be there an hour plus if you want a good view. If you're tall, you can probably cut it closer because you stand a better chance of seeing over the head of whoever is in front of you.

Hahahah!! I'm medium-ish. 5'6". Technically, I'm 5'6 3/4", so I tend to round up to 5'7". But I don't think I'll need to hop much to see. :bounce:

When DS was little I put him on my hip so he could see. When he got a little bigger he was on my back like a piggyback. Both ways he was just about as tall as me and therefore I wasn't creating a giant like people do when they put kids on shoulders.

Waiting is hard for kids, but it's been one of the Life Lessons that DS has learned thanks to Disney trips. If it's worth waiting, you wait. If you can't wait, you don't do it. Then as the show starts, up the kid goes onto hip or back, and while it's not superawesomefuntime for the parent, everyone gets to see.

Thankfully DS is just about as tall as me and these aren't things I worry about now. :)

I am sure...absolutely positive...without a single doubt...that somehow kids get heavier as the show progresses. :rotfl: I was holding a little one (average sized 2.5 year old) on my hip watching WoC. It was fine for the first 5 minutes...then tougher for the next 5 minutes...then yikes! I swear, he must have tripled in weight by the end of the show! :rotfl:

On a serious note, I agree with bumbershoot, that on the back or the hip is the least intrusive way to hold the child unless you're in the back row, with no one but the walkway behind you, then I think shoulders is fine. Unfortunately WoC is one of those shows that if you can't see the water's surface, you're missing out. So you either have to commit the time to have a good view or I would skip it.

bumbershoot, we do that for parades and fireworks and stuff, but WOC was really hard- it was really not possible to see even doing that. Also, DD5 is super tall and that equals a bit heavy for us to hold for this kind of stuff. :)

If there is still walk up viewing from right in front of the entrance to Little Mermaid, it would probably be fine to have a child on the parent's shoulders in the last row. Last time we viewed from there, there were only about 2 of 3 rows of people, so being in the back wasn't like being miles from the front row. And since that area is for non-FP viewing, the OP could play by ear how early to show up and wait. It's not the best view, but for a small child it can still be magical. We heard plenty of giggles and oooohs and aaaahs.

We got a regular FP (no dining), showed up 30 min before and ended up on the bridge 2nd row of people. IDK how early the first row got there - wish I woud've asked. I stayed in the 2nd row but the girls in front of us were nice enough to ask my 6 y/o if she wanted to squeeze in front of them, so she got a pretty good view.

We lined up I want to say an hour early with our FP and was able to get in the very front on the rail...it was the wet zone....we got wet and it had even started raining a little so we got even more wet...won't sit in the wet zone again but we had great views
