I currently have a 2bd. booked at OKW for Dec. I have the chance to change it to a 1bd. at WLV. Would you do it? we have 2 kids but they sleep in the same bed anyway. Is WL that spectacular at x-mas?:confused3

I've never stayed there at Christmas, but it's always reported here that it's hard to get at the 7 month mark during Christmas - so, it must be something special! Also, the closeness to MK is great if you plan to spend much time there.

WL is spectacular at Christmas, but Disney in general is wonderful during the holidays. The most striking feature is the lobby of the main Lodge, but the whole resort and its decor fit more easily into traditional ideas of Christmas.

Having said that, you can still visit WL during your visit. And how much time will you spend around the lodge? If you spend almost all of your time in other places -- the parks, your room, the pools -- the difference may be marginal. We are partial to VWL overall, so I am trying to be unbiased. It is a great place for the holidays, but any place in WDW is great at that time of the year (or any other time for that matter!).

I'd take a 2BR over a 1BR at any place just for the added space and freeing up the "living room" for television watching or early morning coffee without disturbing others.

If you were talking about a 2BR at each, I'd be inclined to go the VWL route. Otherwise, I'd stick to the 2BR at OKW and just visit WL. :santa:

If your decision is based on location then VWL is probally the one...but that said the 2BR at OKW is wonderful and I personally love the festive decorations there at Christmas:santa:

Villa-wise, I'd pick the 2 bedroom at OKW. I don't know how young your kids are, but if you don't mind the "tighter" quarters, I would pick the WLV for the closeness to MK and FW.

I own at OKW and have stayed at all the resorts. With the one bedroom the kids will have to use the sleep sofa in the living room. Point requirement would be less but a 2 bed room at any of the resorts would be more comfortable with kids. :yay:

It really depends what your ideal Christmas is like.

If you want the down home country style of a mountaineer Christmas, then VWL is truly spectacular. It looks and feels like one giant log cabin in the woods.

If you like the festive, Caribbean/Southern style, then OKW is very charming.

All the resorts are done up for Christmas with their particular style. (I like Boardwalk's Americana motiff.) And aside from a Christmas tree in the lobby, wreaths and garland strewn about the resorts don't really do that much. (Well BCV and Grand Floridian do gingerbread creations too.) The parks are decked out though. I love Osborne Lights in MGM/DHS and Magic Kingdom looks so pretty. EPCOT just wows you with the countries and special shows. Where you stay may not matter that much.

The size room doesn't bother me as much as answering the first question of what you're looking for at Christmas.

I absolutely LOVE VWL at Christmastime. That said, I'd probably opt for the 2 bedroom also - particularly if you plan to do the tree swap, take presents and have your own Christmas celebration. You'll appreciate having the extra room.

WL is beautiful at Christmas, WLV not so much. There's a photo thread in my signature line if you want to see what it looked like last Christmas. Personally, I would stick with a 2BR at OKW because it's the holidays and you will love having all that room. Of course, I am very biased because OKW is home to us and we have been staying there almost every year since 1994. At OKW you can fit a full size tree in your room if you choose.

I would go on a waitlist for a 2 BR at VWL in a heartbeat. Extra points and all!;)

Unless the proximity to MK is really important to you, I'd go for the 2 bedroom. With kids, I would think the extra space would really be appreciated.

We've stayed at both (with 2 kids) and loved both, so either resort is a winner as far as I'm concerned!

I like having the separate bedroom, though.

Another vote for the 2 bedroom at OKW...afterall, the holiday decorations at WL are not in your room :) so, for me, I would definitely go with more space. Take a day and go visit the other resorts to check out the decorations but then go back and enjoy the incredible roominess of your 2 bedroom at OKW and have sweet dreams of how lovely the decorations are at ALL of the resorts.

Thanks everyone. I guess I should have said we're going 12-6 to 12-14, so no tree in room needed. We've always stayed at either BWV or BCV and I started to feel the trip was getting to be the same old thing, so in Jan. while we were in DW we decided to check out WLV, OKW, and SSR. We like all of them for different reasons. The only thing I felt about WLV was that everything was dark! I didn't know if staying in such a "darkly" decorated room would bother me after a week. My DH just thought that resort was spectacular!! He's the one willing to give up a 2 bed. for the 1 bd. just to stay there. We've never been to DW at x-mas time before and he thought it would just fit the mood better (we live in new england) We're not big on eating and visiting other resorts during our trips. We go to the parks and back to the room so I doubt we'll want to go visit WL if we weren't staying there. I'm still so undecided and I have to make up my mind by Mon.
