We just spent 4 nights in a one bedroom villa on points from our DD. Oh, My!

Now, you have to know my husband is a skier, and he has been moaning and groaning about going to WDW when there's snow coming. (I think he only goes to humor me!)

At dinner on Tuesday, after less than 30 hours in the villa, he looked across the table at me and said "I think we should sell the boat and buy into the DVC."

Probably the first time in my life I have ever been speechless.

OH NO !!! Don't sell the boat !, Does one have to exclude the other ? We have a 1999 37 foot Cruisers and we spend every weekend on it during the summer. I wouldn't give up our boat for DVC. Don't get me wrong, I love our DVC interest, but we spend more family time on the boat then we do at WDW. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons we look forward to heading to WDW during the kids spring break in MArch, is that when we get back home....its time to get the boat ready for boating season !

LindaBabe....

There must have been an awful lot of pixie dust floating around the VWL while you were there!

Now that you have returned to the sobering reality of the real world, how does your DH feel about joining DVC? If you plan to go at least every couple of years (okay, at least every 3 years with banking and borrowing), then DVC could be a great vacation investment for you.

Now that you've stayed in the 1BR, it'll be hard to stay in a hotel or even a DVC studio.

Glad you had a great trip.

Sell the boat!!!! :D

It'll be the best purchase you ever make.

DVCDAVE and DVCajun.....

I just got this mental image of a miniature version of you two sitting on LindaBabe's shoulders, each whispering in her ear....

"Sell the boat"

"Don't listen to him, keep the boat!"

LOL :D

You KNOW who you should listen to...!! ;)

By the way, Granny, I'm a girl. :D

Go for it!!

At dinner on Tuesday, after less than 30 hours in the villa, he looked across the table at me and said "I think we should sell the boat and buy into the DVC."

That's just what we did. I had a 25' Sea Ray on the upper Hudson River. As our kids got older, it was harder to get away. They would rather be home in the pool or off to one of their sports activities than on the boat. Plus dealing with other boaters was not as fun anymore. So we sold the boat. 4 months later, we were down to WDW and bought into DVC at VWL. We thought, heck, we go to WDW a couple of times a year. In addition, the cost of the monthly payments and dues was 1/3 of what we had budgeted for boating.

It has been a year and we have not missed the boat at all.

This is a decision only you can make for yourselves.

Good luck!

ralphd:) :) :)

Well I don't invision myself as the one on the shoulder, in a devil's outfit, whispering keep the boat.... LOL ! But, I can conclude that everyones family situation is a bit different, yes our boys are 10 and 8. We enjoy both, WDW and boating alot. Being a numbers guy, I put a more weight on the hours spent with family and friends on our boat over the fewer hours spent at WDW. Again, don't get me wrong I love WDW and our DVC interest, its just that if I had to choose, I'll take the boat.

OH, by the way, it is my wife that wanted the boat, and me DVC. You see, my wife is from Sweden and grew up boating, as most Swedes do. I was nagged for years that she wanted either a boat or a house on Long Island sound. The last thing I wanted was another house to maintain and finally caved in to the boat idea. After a week vacationing on the first boat I was hooked. I consider wonderful Essex, CT our second home. (far all you who don't know, Essex was voted best small town in America in 1998 !).

All I can conclude here, is that I am glad I don't have to make a decision of a boat or DVC.

I love the thought of the two little angels whispering in my ears! Too CUTE!

My dbs has not wavered. They're sending up the papers, and we've got our financing in order.

The thing with the boat is - it was HIS dream - he grew up on the Ohio, boating and camping. I went along to make him happy. We've had one now for about 10 years. At first we boated and camped and used it every other weekend all summer. We even moved closer to the Mohawk, so we could use it after work. But the last couple years, we've used it less than half a dozen times a year, and it's gotten to be a burden - gee - we shouldn't think about going to whereever - we should go out in the boat. Or, if it's nice tomorrow, we'll go boating, and then we get up late and don't feel like it and feel guilty because we don't feel like it . . . those of you who USED to have a boat will recognize the drill.

But, we had so much invested in the dratted thing that it was hard to make the decision to sell it. The DVC appears to have provided the necessary incentive for him to make the call, and I'm not arguing. ;)

My pop aleays took us to WDW as we were growing up. When I told we bought DVC he kinda...well thought I wasted my money. I took him about a year ago to BW and after about a couple of days around the resort said "where can I learn more about this DVC". He did not buy into it but keeps asking me if we can go again on my points (shrewd business man that he is)

Well....when the boating urge hits, you can always use your points to go on a Disney cruise.;) ;) ;)

Those VWL one bedrooms are so cozy, I can see why your DH wanted to buy in.

Best of luck, and let us know when it's time to say "Welcome Home!":bounce: :bounce:

While the Mohawk is nice, it's sure not Bay Lake! Sounds like a wonderful trade off to me!

Welcome Home....soon! :D

You know, I knew that but I messed up the roles of each angel on the shoulder. After everyone messing up my gender so much you'd think I'd be more sensitive to these things...sorry DVCajun!

LindaBabe....they rent boats at WDW if you get the urge. And you don't have to worry about maintaining them!

And DVCDAVE...there aren't any devils on these boards (although a few "devil's advocates"). ;)

GRANNY; Not to worry, I took no offense, in fact I thought it was very funny. I always liked that scene from the Animal House movie....LOL !

and LINDABABE; I am sure you made the right decision for your family, and a warm Welcome Home to you and your family !! Now, you'll have to get up early and do some commando style park assulting....HA !! ;) , OR feel guilty ;)
