Hi,

This is my first "official" post. I am curious and wanted to get opinions. We are going down for our honeymoon in November, and we booked a standard room at WL for 7 days. We were also looking at YC as well. Did we make the right choice? I never stayed at YC, so this is why I am asking! Thanks!

I have never stayed at the WL but I have visited two of the restaurants so I know the place looks gorgeous!

I have stayed at the YC on an adults only trip. What I liked about it was that we were in walking distance from Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the Boardwalk. So there were a lot of dining and entertainment options very close by. Plus the pool complex is awesome with the sand bottom pool. The Yachtsman Steakhouse is a great restaurant and I enjoyed the Captains Grille as well. Getting an ice cream cone at Beaches and Cream was a daily event during pool time!

The rooms were nice and tastefully decorated. It had a slightly quieter ambiance than its sister, the Beach Club (have stayed there as well and loved it).

Welcome! :welcome:

You've asked one of the toughest questions I've ever heard, because I love BOTH resorts.

I tend to prefer WL during Christmas season, for the piney setting in the cool weather, and the fabulous decor.

The rest of the year, though, I prefer YC -- walk to DHS and Epcot, great food options both in the resort and nearby (Boardwalk, Epcot, Swan&Dolphin), and large, well-appointed rooms with a calming color scheme and relaxing atmosphere...

However, the cost difference means I need a healthy discount PIN or military discount to be able to justify staying there.

I'd say YC for a honeymoon. Unless it's Christmas time.

They are both wonderful resorts. The WL is very secluded and quiet. Your restaurant choice is rather limited though. The YC is much more quiet than the BC-seems like a lot more kids and noise at the BC. But it is not really quiet or secluded like the WL. The YC pool-Stormalong Bay water park- is fab and the restaurant choices are vast. I think it depends on whether you want secluded and woodsy or lights, action, restaurants and water park. The weather in November is usually ok for swimming, at least in the first 2 weeks.
WL has good access to the MK and YC has good access to the DS and EP. So that may be a factor too. I don't think you will go wrong at either place. YC tends to be a lot more expensive than WL.

You're golden either way. I've never stayed at YC, just BC, but I've been in and out of there often enough. Just so you know, there's no real counter service there. There's a coffee thing, but it's pretty limited, so getting a quick meal while in your room isn't possible. You'd have to get something from the other surrounding resorts, or eat at Captain's Grille (which is my favorite breakfast spot in WDW btw) which can be slightly time consuming. Maybe it doesn't matter to you, but I'm not a fan of not having a place to grab a quick meal that I can bring back to my room.

Hi!

I think I could shed some light here for you..
We honeymooned in december and stayed at Wilderness lodge first, then the YC.

We LOVED the WL!!
The theming, the "wintery" feeling you get, the total atmosphere of the hotel, the smell

We LOVED WL!

YC- We wanted to love it, really we did...BUT, we just didn't :sad2

We found the YC to be a little impersonal, and in DESPERATE need of a refurbishment.
The plumbing was awful , we did not have hot water at all.
When you opened the bathroom door, you practically fell INTO the toilet :headache:

NOT a good stay!!!
I think we were unlucky with our room..
WL ALL THE WAY!!!!!

Personally I like the theme more at the Wilderness Lodge compared to the Yacht Club. Now if you plan to spend more time at the Magic Kingdom then go with the Wilderness Lodge. However if you plan to spend more time at Epcot and Hollywood Studios then go with the Yacht Club.

Haven't done YC yet (maybe this year's trip actually!) but have done WL 3 times now. It is an amazing resort and we love it! For dining, we were not overly impressed with Artist Pointe BUT.......Whispering Canyon was very good for a fun lunch or casual dinner and you have all of the restaurants of Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian resorts right there, just a short boat ride (and I love the boating!) away. We just love the convenience. And oh please.....boat me to MK back and forth and ummm...yes do the Pirates ride during the fireworks if it is available!!!! :-)

If you do end up at WL I would suggest a room on the lowest level facing towards the quiet pool by the villas. We simply love the convenience of walking out to the pool from the patio and the patio feels a bit bigger than the other ones. We stayed concierge level one year and yes, the staff was just amazing but you feel very isolated and almost like you're being watched because they are so sweet and attentive....KWIM?? We just really like the lower level.

Wherever you end up, I hope you have a wonderful wonderful Disneymoon and wish you blessings galore in your married life!:goodvibes

 I'm just the opposite, I prefer a room higher up! 4th fl is good! But the views from either facing the quiet pool, or a woods view is the quietest. Facing the main courtyard and main pool can be a little loud. Although I didn't find it so. We were higher up, and couldn't hear anything when we closed the balcony door.

We love WL, it is a beautiful resort, And along with the boat to MK, there is a resort boat that loops around WL, CR & FW.

We haven't stayed in the Epcot area yet. But have a BC stay planned in Aug.

Being that you are on your honeymoon and going to WDW in November, I would say the WL. Hopefully, the Christmas decorations will be up for you. Also, if you have a standard room, request that you get a room on the MK side of the lobby with the rooms above the WC restaurant....the higher the better. Nice view of the fireworks from your balcony.....also, nothing nicer than leaving your hotel room to be greeted by that beautiful lobby.

I absolutely love the YC! It is completely refurbished and yes, it is 20 years old. But I love the elegance, how gracious all of the CMs are. You can sit out on the porch and look out over the water (enjoy a glass of wine) at night.

For an adult vacation, I say YC. There are many restaurants right there. You can walk to Epcot for dinner or just to wander around the world. Don't get me wrong, it is a very family-friendly resort. SAB is great.

Enjoy your planning and your trip!

Have stayed at both and had pleasant stays at both (both regular rooms and CL) but U prefer the YC for location, dining and room size. The rooms at WL tend to be a little bit smaller, YC rooms have daybeds so that gives you a little extra "spread out room" for luggage, a place to sit ,etc. You have access to tons of restaurants in the EPCOT resort area, along with all of the dining in EPCOT in World Showcase. Plus, the convenience of walking or taking a boat to two parks is hard to beat.

This! We've stayed at WL and BC several times each, and we wander over to YC during our BC stays.

I love both resorts and have lots of great things to say about WL, especially that beautiful lobby. The rooms are getting a bit worn, and that's no problem for a family vacation but it might bother me on a honeymoon.

But I would definitely choose YC for an adult vacation. The recently renovated YC rooms (see photos on allears.net) are very nice and I think it's more quiet than WL. The proximity to World Showcase and Epcot resorts for dining is a huge benefit. You could easily spend a day in MK, AK or DHS, take a break at YC and then walk to dinner. (That's what we do - even with three kids!) You would have so many dining options within walking distance - and it's so relaxing to just walk back to your room from Epcot, Boardwalk, Swan or Dolphin instead of driving, taking a cab or catching a bus back to the resort.

Good luck with your decision and happy planning! :wizard:
