This is probably a very simple question. We are staying at WL and I've heard the buffet at Fort Wilderness is amazing (perhaps someone can correct me if it isn't all that great) Anyhow, can we walk there or am I asking a dumb question again much as my one about walking from WL to the monorail which would involve walking on water....... If we can walk there, how far? Thanks

When we stayed at the WL a couple of years ago, we went to FW to visit the petting zoo. We took a boat from WL straight to FW and then back to hotel when we were done. I believe they run often beacause I don't remember waiting long at either place. Hope this helps, if this has changed maybe someone will correct.

I would also like to know about the buffet. We have never tried it but are thinking about it for our next trip.:D

Thanks - I didn't know about the petting zoo and my daugter would love that! I will probably write a restaurant review when we get back (November 14) so I can let you know what we thought of the buffet!

My daughter enjoyed the petting zoo, it's small but fun. They also offer pony rides--this was her favorite! Hope you enjoy your trip and I'll look for your trip report. We'll be going in December.:D

lmk- Yes, you can walk to Fort Wilderness. Depending on the time of year, it can be a really nice walk. You don't feel like your in Florida. You can also rent bikes and ride over. My husband and I did this in November and really enjoyed it.

Have FUN!:bounce:

Could you tell me how long a walk it would be - we'll have our 16 month old with us who at times can be rather impatient...

The walk is about a mile and can be done on the jogging trail, which is paved, It is a very enjoyable walk and I do it every morning that I stay at the resort. Many times you can see wildlife in the woods...deer etc. It takes you right to the petting zoo.
You can also take the little boats over........perhaps take the boat over and walk some of that breakfast off on the way back:D

We were there in May and we experienced WL and FW for the first time. We LOVED Trails End Buffet. We went several times. It is Very good food and less exspensive than some places. We loved sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch and watching the peacocks walk by. There is a play ground close by also. I have a 9yr old dd and a 7yr old ds.

Have a great time.::MinnieMo :wave2: ::MickeyMo :wave2:

All the above information is great...we have visited Trails End on our last two trips...the walking trail doesn't have any lighting so I wouldn't recommend walking after dark, both the large Green Flag Boat and the smaller Blue Flag Resort Boats can take you to Ft. Wilderness Campground just besure to ask where they are traveling to before you board as the resort boats also go to the CR...and the large boats also go to MK...Located just down from Trails End is a bus stop where you may also ride a bus back to Wilderness Lodge takes about a minute...this is the Resort Bus that runs between Ft. Wilderness/Wilderness Lodge/TTC.

Have fun

Hi Imk!

We ate at the Trail's End Buffet for breakfast during our stay at Fort Wilderness in 2002. It was a Great value. They have the famous Mickey waffles. CM's were very pleasant as well. I heard good reports about lunch & dinner as well, though I can't vouch for it since we ate in the parks.

There are other things you may enjoy at Fort Wilderness. They have a nightly campfire program that is open to all Disney resort guests. You can toast marshmallows - make s'mores... Chip & Dale make an appearance. Everyone sings. Then they show a Disney film. Your daughter may be too young to sit through all that, but she would probably like the singing/ Chip & Dale (trying to remember my son - now 10 - at that age). I would advise bringing your own marshmallows though - they are rather pricey.

It is also possible to take a wagon/hayride through the grounds, or even a carriage ride. The wagon rides are 1st come 1st served but the carriage rides, I believe, need to be reserved in advance.

We are planning a Grand Gathering at WL Nov/Dec 2005 & plan on walking over to Fort Wilderness. It's lovely - quiet & peaceful.

ENJOY!

Thank you so much for all of your great suggestions! You have all reminded me of why I love disboards so much!!!::yes::

Aren't they just Great!!! I definitely agree.::yes:: So many nice people. Sounds corny maybe, but it does make you feel like one big family!:cloud9: Let us know how you make out...enjoy!

It took DW and I about 20 minutes to walk from WL to FW. As others have said the paved path doesn't have lights. We think walking over to FW and taking the boat back to the WL is a good way to go.
