We just made reservations for November at the Wilderness Lodge under the Armed Forces Salute promotion. We were able to get 7 nights for $932 including tax. However, they only had a standard view room available. Can someone please tell me how I can request the best "standard" available? We're taking our daughter for her first WDW trip. She will be two by then. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

A standard view gives you 2 options. 1.) North side looking towards MK but the rooms sit over the loading docks and noise may be a problem. Plus they are not attractive to look down at. 2.) South side looking toward the WLV and bus stop. You may look down at the WL roof peaks and have no view of MK.

Ask for a room upgrade when you check in.

Standard view facing the MK gave us a wonderful fireworks view. DD goes to bed early (7:30ish) so we were still able to enjoy the fireworks while sitting on our bed.

We were on the South side overlooking the bus stop and roof tops which totally sucked. It sucked b/c we paid for a woodsland view and felt like we got a standard view. Can anyone tell me what the scoop is on the standard/wood difference? Would one floor be standard and not all of them? We were on floor 5.

If you don't want to pay for an upgrade - ask for a standard room on a high floor looking towards MK. We stayed in one recently on the 6th floor and we could have seen the MK fireworks if we had been in the room when they went off. Also we had a great view of the Contemporary which looked neat at night, we could see Space Mountain very clearly and we could see the monorail as it went to and from the Contemporary. We used one of the two balconies off the lobby when we wanted to enjoy the courtyard view. We took our breakfast out there one morning and we were the only people on the balcony. It was very pleasant and did not cost us a dime to use those balconies and watch Bay Lake and the geyser go off, etc. So don't spend a great deal of time worrying about the standard view. Just be sure to get it facing MK and try for 6th floor. Have a great time!
