You could be right, the large groups of people we saw coming from the boat with backpacks and heading into the poolside washrooms could just be people who have already checked out. There were a couple large groups of young adults. Funny, I never saw them anywhere else around the resort.
As I said, you can't see "where" they are coming from from the pool area. Just because they walk back from the dock area doesn't mean they got off a boat. And I still say I cannot understand how anyone could or would spend enough time watching other people to even notice where they come from or what they're carrying, let alone to make of point of seeing if they could find them anywhere else at the resort at another time.
Even if it happened, how many large groups? Two, three? How many in the group, 4 or 5? If you saw three groups of 5 people, that's 15 people during your vacation. Not enough to cause a significant problem. That is, if the only reason for the complaint is that it causes significant overcrowding at the pools.
"It took Disney years to figure out how to beat ticket re-selling"
Yes, but preventing pool hopping is a much easier problem to fix. If WDW thought it was a significant problem, they would correct it.
"Did you know that resort IDs, even though they all look the same, have numbers indicating which resort you are staying at?"
Yes, I knew that. I never thought about it until our last trip when my sister lost the contents of her wallet...resort ID, Driver's license and AP. By the time we realized it, they had already been turned in by a wonderful CM and they had already notified our resort.
"Why doesn't WDW fix it? Because they are so terribly worried about offending or inconveniencing people. They cut off their nose to spite their face. The problem is that they don't have the foresight to realize that eventually they'll have no nose left. It's not just with the pools, it's an overwhelming and pervasive systematic problem with the company who is so worried about upsetting any guest for any reason. They have become unable to look at the big picture. "
In order to agree with your reasoning, I'd have to believe Disney is an incredibly stupid company that for some unknown reason wants to hurt themselves. I don't believe that. I think they're pretty bright and up until recent events beyond their control, have done quite well. I agree, the last thing Disney wants to do is offend guests and they do their best to offend the least number possible. If it were the case that there were more people upset by pool hopping than there were pool hoppers, they'd fix it. They have apparently decided there are fewer complainers than hoppers or that the steps they take now are sufficient. Besides, they don't mind throwing people out of the pool when they catch them, why would they mind offending them by stopping them from going in the first place? It doesn't make sense.
Not directed at anyone in particular.....
EVERYONE spends thousands of dollars vacationing at WDW. It's not a valid argument for either side. There also seems to be a hint of " If you don't agree with us, quit posting on this thread" going on here. It doesn't work that way folks.
I think the pool hopper problem is being vastly overstated. I for one don't want to have to wear a wristband for 2 weeks or keep track of one. I also don't want a huge fence erected around the pool to keep intruders out. I've been at SAB when it was wall to wall people and I believe it would have been horribly crowded at that time pool hoppers or not. They could have thrown 100 people out and you wouldn't have noticed a difference.
