OK, I've read posts about people viewing an 'otter pond' at the Wilderness Lodge from balconies. Is this pond viewable from the ground? Meaning, can I take a walk to this pond?

I am leaving Friday :Pinkbounc for a weekend stay at the WL and would love to go exploring the grounds to find this pond. Anyone have directions to it or know how I could find it?

TIA,
Colette :)

The pond is on the MK side of the lodge, between the lodge and the waterway to MK. It is about midway of the wing farthest back. Our room was directly above the pond, and it was fun to watch the birds, ducks, etc. We also had a view of the castle at MK from that room. I don't know if there are any paths that will take you to the pond. Hope this helps.

Hi
We stayed at the WL last August and our room was over the otter pond. Sorry to say that there are no walkways to see the pond and I do recall posts at that time saying you couldn't view it unless you're in a room that overlooks the pond.

I can tell you that we were there for 5 days and didn't get one glimpse of an otter but we did hear them a night.

If you have a "woods view" room you could always request a room overlooking the pond (you can always try faxing a request before you go). Good luck and have a fun trip.

...post your question on the WL FAQ thread, and perhaps "askmickey" can give you a definitive answer....I don't believe, though, that there are any paths leading to the pond...:(

Hi...All...Who needs paths...just walk on the grass....With a ground floor room it is quite easy......

Have a Magical Day...

Hi SuzEm,
I was wondering if you could help by being a little more specific? Here is a link to a map of the WL. Could you tell me about what building you were in (by number) when you were overlooking the otter pond? That way, when we stay next month, we could always walk around the floors and look out the windows of their observation points if we are not located near it. I really appreciate it. My son is a HUGE otter fan and wants to study them when he grows up.

From your map link, if you look at the dock (16) and then follow the line of the dock straight back toward the lodge, it is about midway of that section/wing closest to the dock - the building where the #10 laundry is. It is nestled next to the lodge, between the building and the waterway - on the MK side. The MK is to the NNW. Does that help? I think our room was 5016.

I've tried to get around that side of the building to look for the pond. I may be wrong, but I don't think it's accessible. From the docks, you'd have to climb down off the walkway. Going around from the parking lot side, you run into the loading docks.

Some where by the laundry and the elevators there is a door to get out around this area. My wife and I where right by this corner and we would see people going out there all the time to feed the ducks. Maybe the stairs that are right there have a door to that area.
