WL & Magical Express - help!

No big deal, everyone has the right to their own opinions. I am going to call Disney and see what I can do with my reservation. I'm going to be HONEST.

Thank you all for your input. If I can't add my mother or ask for my daughter to stay in a pack and play. I'll stay off property. No big deal and you will all be able to sleep well!

You may be a good person you may be able to live with yourself and it may not be a BIG deal BUT

AN HONEST PERSON DOESN'T LIE ABOUT AN AGE in order to qualify for age based discounts/rates.

I wasn't aware I was getting a discount? Simply that I would be using a room that would have been 100% legal only 1 month before my reservation and I would be using it with the same people at the same sizes, in the same way!

Thank you all. I AM an honest person. I will call and tell the truth and see what I can come up with.

Fire codes are based on several things, from room size to the size of any exits - windows, doors, etc..... What I mean is that there are reasons that one room will hold 4+1 and a similar-sized room will hold 5+1. I don't always know what the rules are for each room, but I assume the fire department and whoever saw to it that the hotel was up to code do. :)

I am *so* not going to try to tell you what to do and am just not interested in worrying about it, but you do realize how hilarious it is to see someone detail how they're comfortable lying and then being adamant about how honest they are, right? ;) I'm sure you're a decent person, but that's just funny.

One thing that may not have ocurred to you is that, if you wanted to buy your 3 year old daughter a ticket at the park, since you wouldn't be able to do it via your resort ressie, I think that means she would not be able to take advantage of EMH. The only alternative would be to not take advantage of EMH or say that she is under 3 at the park gate, at which point that really would be dishonest.

Anyway, if money isn't an issue, have you considered staying at the Poly or CR? You can have 5 people in a room there since the rooms are much bigger and feature a large day bed.

shelliesv, welcome to the Dis!!!! No need to be so huffy, my dear. The rules are just the rules. My daughter was every bit as good a driver the month before she turned sixteen as she was the month after. It was just the rule that on one side of the number she could drive legally and on the other side she couldn't. Nothing will happen to your daughter the month before she's three and the month after, but she's hit a magic number, and no amount of justification and "I can live with myself" speeches can change that. And the argument that you are trying to spend a lot of money if only Disney would let you break a rule doesn't fly very well here on the Dis, since most people are well aware of the room limits and book accordingly.

Sorry you're not getting what you wanted from Disney or from the board - but we're (mostly) a law-abiding bunch and when you sneak in an additoinal guest and flaunt it on the boards you'll usually hear about it.

I guess you missed my later post where I said I WAS going to call and be honest and see what I can come up with? HONESTLY! I just didn't understand why it's okay for a child that is MUCH bigger than mine to stay legally in the same room with the same number of people because she has a birthday that is a few weeks later than my daughters? I understand rules and they are usually in place for a reason - just like how rides have height restrictions. The little girl who is able to stay legally in the WL room IS able to go on rides that my daughter CAN NOT because she is too small.

One of the reasons I chose to book through Disney because I can change without penalty. Since my grandmother has just been hospitalized my mother may be taking her in to live with her for while, if that happens, my mother won't be coming on the trip. At least I have the WL reservations which I can keep if it ends up being just our family of 4. Otherwise, we will book at the Swan where I simply need to pay for the extra adult (in the same sized room as we would have had at the WL). I guess the Fire codes are different there!

Great news!

I got the Swan at the allears rate of $184.50 per night plus $25 for the extra adult. With that, my mom will get a "heavenly cot". So it's even cheaper than the WL courtyard fall sale rate. And even though the room is the same size, we are "legal". I guess because it's not Disney owned! Whohoo!

I'm keeping the WL reservation just in case my mom doesn't come but honestly, after thinking about it, I'm not sure that it's worth the extra $60 a night. We won't be doing dining or Magical Express and I'm not interested in Extra Magic Hours (but we could do those at the Swan anyway). In any case, I have a few weeks to decide.

shelliesv, that's great and more importantly you haven't commited your soul to hell :rotfl: :lmao:

Honestly, you will probably be better off at the Swan. I love the Wilderness Lodge, I really really do, but I think you guys would have been really cramped there. The Swan rooms are larger.

Thanks, we did the Dolphin last year and I didn't think it was a very big room, but the location and beds were great. We were thinking of "trying" something new with the WL this year, but if the rooms are that small, maybe it just doesn't make sense. I also like the idea of the "heavenly cot" option so we're not crammed into the 2 beds if we need more room.

Anyway, if my mom doesn't come, we may keep the WL. Honestly with Disney being so ridiculous on their "room policies" at this point I'm not sure if I WANT to stay on a Disney owned property. I mean I don't get allowing 5 people and an infant in POR (and I saw that room it was SMALL) but having such a strict policy on the WL. I think it's only because they want you to pay so much more $$$ for a bigger room - which isn't even available. I guess they don't have to worry about turning people away since they're always full anyway.

A person doesn't magically change on their 21st birthday but they can't drink the day before. A person doesn't magically change on their 18th birthday but they can't vote the day before. Age limits are arbitrary. Some people chose to cheat, forget their kids age so they can exceed room limits, pay a reduced price for admission or for dining.

Room occupancy limits are partly for safety. In the case of fire the halls and staircases are only large enough to evacuate a certain number of people. The resort facilities such as the pool are built to accommodate a certain number of people. One family putting an extra kid in the room may not be a big deal but if every room had an extra kid the common resort facilities including pool and even restaurants wouldn't be big enough.

WL and AKL are less expensive than the other deluxe hotels. One reason is the standard rooms are smaller and only sleep 4.
