Another thread inspired this question.

I am always rubbin Humphreys nose each and every time we pass in outside the Mercantile.

How many others do the same?

Who's Humphrey? I will be at the WL in Jan, but haven't heard of this.

Humphrey is the WL mascot. He is a bear from old Disney cartoons and also the character (bear) at the bottom of the totem pole that sits just outside the WL mercantile.

we love humphrey! And were very unhappy when WL tried to "phase" him out to the winnie the pooh gang. :earboy2: All the merchandise turned from humphrey to winnie and friends now seems the humphrey is being brought back  :flower: :D . I do like winnie and friends but humphrey started out there and fits in so well. I glad he has a lot of friends. :cool1:

So that's Humphrey! I didn't know who he was until now. No, I didn't rub his nose from the totem. What does it signify when your rub his nose?

It probably means different things to different people. We just try to rub some pixiedust from him. ;)

We were at WL in October for our honeymoon and my husband rubbed his nose every time we walked by :) I had never heard of it beofre but he said it would bring us good luck...

Yes, every time we pass him. My DD and I do, :jumping4:

LOL, too funny... I remember when my son was 15 months old trying so hard to reach his nose:

We always rub his nose. Rubbing Humphrey's nose is the WL tradition for bringing good luck. It's similar to the Polynesian's tradition of tossing a penny in the ponds by the Great Ceremonial House's doors as you depart to ensure a future return.

Wishing on a star, rubbing a bear's nose, tossing pennies, Disney is full of ways to wish and hope. Just by being there and being able to rub Humprey's nose proves to me that one of my wishes from a previous trip has been granted. :earsboy:

As DW (kpm76) mentioned...

I didn't know that each resort have different tradition. That's cool. I thought it's just the DIS tradition, our own DIS thing we do. Anyways.. I love CSR, what kind of tradition do they do there? What do you do to bring luck from there? I'm wondering about the Disney Cruise, I'm wondering if there's something there you do to bring luck or to ensure a future return cause I sure would love to go back on the Wonder!! :boat:

You know, I actually learned about both from the FAQ boards when planning stays at the Polynesian and the WL...could be a DIS thing. If it is and with all the fun folks on these boards, I wouldn't doubt that there are some sort of traditions for CSR and the DCL.

When last on the Wonder I was told by a CM, Lisa I think, that rubbing Ariel's tail would bring good luck and the next day at CC we spotted a ray swimming in the lagoon as we docked. Seemed lucky to me. :D

Yup, I rub da bear's nose! It brought me a magical vacation. And, when I left, I rubbed the bear's nose and wished to return. Lucky me, my DH and I will be returning at the end of January for an adult's only trip. Definitely, rub the bear's nose!

We do we do! It's a must and reminds me of our good friend who passed away this year...Floridacat.

I'll be there 1/10 to 1/16 and plan to rub again. :)

I'll be there from the 9th-11...save some nose for me!!

That sounds odd... :scratchin

But I think we all need all the good luck we can get!!!
LOL

Wow! I have never heard of this! We will be there at the end of January and you can be sure I will be rubbing his nose!

Hey, we're all gonna rub that nose, if it brings such good luck! I'm looking forward to our first trip to the WL in 22 days as well (Jan 8-12). Nice to hear so many fun people will be there when we will! :grouphug:

We took a group photo last time a few of us WL Lovers visited in May.
