Do you mean Whispering Canyon Cafe? It's not a buffet, but they have an all u can eat skillet option for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on their menu. We've eaten there many times and always order the skillet. They keep replenishing the items you want as long as u want. It is a lively place- there is alot of joking, straw throwing, kids having stick pony races, etc. We like it and find it fun- others may say it's a little loud and annoying It's a popular place so definitely make an ADR.
Tis true - there is no buffet at Wilderness Lodge. You're probably referring to either Whispering Canyon which is not a buffet, or Trail's End which is a buffet but is located at Fort Wilderness, not Wilderness Lodge.
I'm also no buffet aficionado but I can't recall ever seeing Trails End referred to as the best.
Trail's End Buffet could be referred to as a "best value." It's very basic food...chicken, ribs, mashed potatoes, hot veggies, salad bar, etc. It's a must-do when our "steak and potatoes" relatives travel with us. But it's nothing really special, other than a somewhat more reasonable price.
Did this one for dinner in November. Put me in the "annoyed" corner due to the noise level and the "fun" antics of encouraging kids to run ketchup bottles all around the restaurant (SOOO relaxing to watch kids run in and out of servers carrying food and drinks NOT!!)
Thought the food was just OK. And yes, you can make and ADR for WCC.

I guess I was thinking about the Ft. Wilderness buffet but now I am thinking about the Whispering Canyon that sounds fun. I appreciate the warnings about the volume, but with a 5 and 4-yo, anywhere they can be noisy is ok.
We are planning on breakfast before our "pool day." The questions remain.
Is the FW buffet better than others for breakfast? Why is it so special? Do I need a ADR for a buffet?
Any more thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for the past and future help.
Kids really enjoy the WCC breakfast. They don't like the dinner menu as well. We usually eat breakfast there on our off day. We usually don't make reservations until around 9:00 or 10:00 and it is never busy.
They have requested to go back a third year in a row.

The FW buffet breakfast is standard foods...Small selection...We actually love the WCC breakfast, more than dinner...Make ADR for anything you really want to do...Any place can get crowded and you do not want to travel over for no reason.
