Wk of Sep 10--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

HI everyone. I haven't caught up on the posts since last week, but I will try. After I posted on Friday, my mom stopped breathing. I was not at the hospital, but my dad was. They did resesatate (sp) her and into stable condition with a breathing tube. They suspect that she had a reaction to the morophine that they gave her, and possibly too high of a dose. Oh my gosh, I was a wreck. I just couldn't imagine losing my mom. I left work and was in the ICU with her Friday afternoon for a bit. She was so out of it, but knew I was there. She did come back with flying colors and was moved out of ICU yesterday. THANK YOU, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers. My mom is 61 and just a wisp of a lady at 100 pounds soaking wet. She has battled cancer twice and other health issues. I am so glad she is a fighter.

SOOO, I did not train Friday, but I did go for a run on Saturday. It was only in the 40's and windy. I managed 25 minutes and then gave up. BUT it was 25 minutes!!! This morning I was up super early thanks to DH kicking me out of bed. I did 35 minutes on the treadmill. So I haven't given up, even tho it has been in my thoughts. My 1/2 marathon run at WDW will be in honor of my mom. She is so proud of where I have gotten. Who would have ever thunked I would be a runner!!!

OK, I have to catch up, so I apologize for no personals!

Sunny - so sorry about your frustrating dr.s visits!!!!

Lynn-can't wait to hear from you! I've been working on my mt. bike lately (the bronc) I'm still trying to reduce the weight. I have some carbon fiber handlebars, but they are flat and after building up the PUSS w/ the xc riser bars, i realize that they are much more comfortable!! I've ordered the EC70/ xc bars. Hopefully, i'll get them on b/4 we do the big 36hr. race. I also put a different tire on w/ a simmilar tread, but less weight. I think that is all of the weight i'm going to be able to loose w/ out spending mega bucks!! I was thinking about taking a pt job while the boy is in preschool just to fund the bike obsession and to get pts. at cost!! I wish i had the endurance to race w/ the SS. I really like riding it much better.

Not much training here today. It rained during preschool time, so i did 3 miles on the TM w/ avg pace of 8:52, which is fast for me! I think we are just going to paddle tomorrow b/c phil was on call last weekend and we decided to spend some relaxing time together. Sweet time, not sweat time (insert goober smile)

Sunny - I am so sorry to hear of everything you have been going through. :grouphug:

Well, I had my heart broken today. After some long and drawn out discussions it seems that I will NOT be running the Disney Marathon this year. Unfortunately, it just isn't financially a smart thing to do at this time. I am trying really hard to be grown up and mature about the whole thing, which is really hard to do when all I really want is to throw a temper tantrum and get my way. I need to find out Disney's position on cancelling, maybe I can run it next year. In the meantime I feel so defeated. I don't know what to do, I don't want to go out and run at all. The only thing that kept me motivated was knowing I was gonna run Disney, what do I do now? Anyone? I could really use some advice and/or suggestions. Ok , I'm done throwing my pity party now. I am gonna go curl up in the tub and try not to cry. :sad2:

Here it is...the Celtic maiden is finally finished! This was an experience...reminds me of why I don't sew much anymore

Good SR tonight! I did 2.75 miles in 40:05 for a pace of 14:34. My best TM pace ever! LR this weekend is only 3 miles so hoping I can increase the pace a bit...especially since I'll be running at WDW :teeth:

Sunny... :grouphug: Wow! So sorry to hear of what you're going through. I don't know of any limit on epidurals, but that's way out of my ballpark. I'll defer to Lynne on that one.

Dana... :grouphug: Wow! Sorry to hear you may not be able to come for the marathon. Is this definite? Maybe a shorter trip would work? I don't think the registration is refundable but they'll guarantee you a spot for next year.

Dave...fabulous pace! How are the legs doing?

Jen... :wizard: for your mom!

CJ...congrats on your 8 miler!

Krista...a Monday night football double-header?!?! :woohoo: This may be the best season ever!

Rhonda...where are you staying this weekend? We'll be at OKW, in-laws at POR, BIL and family at ASM (staying in the family suites).

Lynne...how did it go?

Did y'all hear we had an earthquake? When DH told me about it, I thought he was joking. We didn't feel a thing, but apparently, they felt it at WDW. Tiff, Heather, Rhonda...did you guys get anything?

Yeah, here is where it was located, and quite a few people seem to have felt it.

Dana - Sorry your plans are looking busted. :sad2:

Mel - Great job on the Celtic maiden! :thumbsup2

Sunny - So sorry you're still having trouble. I'm glad you're getting some relief. Hopefully it won't be too long before they can do the left side. It really stinks how some doctors have no compassion for those in pain.
I'll keep you in my prayers! :grouphug: :wizard: :wizard:

Jen - So glad your mom is doing better! :goodvibes

Dave - Way to go on your hilly run! :thumbsup2

Not much to report for me. I've been taking it real easy letting my shin splints heal. I think I'm pretty much back to normal now. Planning on doing the elliptical tomorrow and Wednesday. Rest Thursday and off the DL on Friday.

Dana, I am so sorry to hear this. I can reallly relate to how you feel. I may not be going and I know exactly what you mean about trying to be all grown-up about it but wanting to throw a temper tantrum. As far as your registration goes, I am pretty sure if you contact them you are guarenteed entry in next years race but you have to pay the reg fee again. :grouphug: :grouphug:

Mel-- that celtic masterpiece is gorgeous! You are multi-talented!

Sara-- I didn't take any discouragement from your post. I am also trying to put my health and overall responsibilities before my obsession. Especially when I weigh the possibility of further injuring myself against years of being active with my kids. Its such a hard decision.

I made it through 9 hours of work and was able to do a 3 mile walk today :Pinkbounc I am definitely MUCH better. Oh I hope it lasts :wizard:

Sunny

I posted this in the DL thread, but I think it bears repeating. I have full on TAPER MADNESS  Yesterday I had so much pent up nervous energy I didnt know what to do with myself. I've had my first race nightmare, feeling like I havent trained nearly enough, also feelings of "what am I doing, what makes me think I can do this?" I had this in January, but I didnt think I would have it this time since I've done this before. No such luck. AHGHGHR!!

Sunny-I am glad you are getting some relief. I have been thinking about you & wish there was something I could do about those idiot healthcare people. :wizard:

Dana-I don't know what to say. I know its hard balancing real life with our need for Disney life :teeth: You are pretty close to Orlando, what about a quickie weekend trip & stay at POP just for a couple of nights. You dont have to go to the parks, just hang out at the resort, with us & the Expo. You could leave Sunday after the race. That would make it a pretty cheap trip. Whatever you decide, dont leave us, we still want you around.

Mel-Awesome costume. She looks beautiful! We didn't feel anything here on the earthquake. I remember we had one a few years back that I never felt either. You just dont think of those happening around here.

Jen-I am so glad your mom is doing better. And I totally understand about running the race for her. DS8 has gotten so into everything I'm doing now & it is so cool. I have inspired him to do races & triathlons. It's pretty cool.

Have a great day everyone!

Jen -- I am so glad your mom is doing better.

Dana -- So sad we'll miss you in January, but I admire your effort to be "adult" about it. I surely would be throwing a tantrum.

Mel -- That gown is absolutely exquisite! Your talents and unending energy never cease to amaze me! :thumbsup2

Tiff -- I am so with you sweetie. Taper madness on top of work chaos!

Sorry to everyone I missed. Will be back later. :grouphug:

Mel , AWESOME costume!! You whipped that up in how many days while working and training??!!! :worship:
Dana , :grouphug:
Sunny , Oh, I'm SO glad to hear that the shot worked...although I do have this picture of you listing to one side...I know computer screens around the country were being yelled at when we read what had happened. Just wish we could do this to the doctors instead of a computer screen... :badpc: :badpc::badpc::badpc:
Dave , wonderful, wonderful job you have done! How was DW's birthday? :cool1:
Lynne , where's your report? How'd you do? :Pinkbounc Kathy you can tell us as we know Lynne's just a little bit busy!
CJ , so glad that you are listening to your body!! Your LR times are GREAT!! :thumbsup2
AmyBeth , same for you. Like Tiger Lily says, just keep getting those steps in! :thumbsup2

Did my 5 miles at my MIL's house after only 3 hours of sleep. I finished it, but wanted to cut it short every step of the way. I learned my lesson of the value of enough sleep before an event! Glad to learn it now and not during an event! :sunny: Anne

We are bck from Madison. I will post later about my experiences as a spectator. I will let Lynne fill you in on her accomplishment. We didn't get home until 2 this morning and both of us were exhausted this morning.

Have a great training day.

Oh, Kathy, we are dying to know how Lynne's weekend went. Either way, she is awesome!!  She should be very proud of herself, and you should be a proud mommy too! (Which we all know you are, she is quite a girl!! :thumbsup2 )

Mel, great costume! Looks great!

Anne, good job getting those miles in. Yes, lack of sleep really zaps me too!

Tiff, awe, yes, taper madness. Can't wait to experience that again as I am going through a little training burnout myself right now.

Terri, :wizard:for those shin splints. Keep drawing those numbers and icing.

Sunny, glad you are feeling better today.

Sara, you are going on another cruise!! And you are leaving same day of the full marathon, did I read that right?? You certainly live the good life.

Jen, more prayers going out to you and your mother.

Colleen

I am back, yah. Work is nuts for me, but I try to take it one step at a time. At lunch I went to the Y and got in 30 minutes of cross training. I am following the MFM plan and so far I like it. BUT, I gained a couple of pounds and feel like I need more exercise to lose them. I guess I could drop my eating points, but then I am starving. Ughhh... it's a vicious circle.

Tonight the new sessions of swim classes start for my girls. My youngest will be in class without a parent now. Once she gets comfortable, then I hope to swim laps while they are in class. But for now I will be on the sidelines in case of a tantrum or crying fit!.

Sunny - I hope everything works out for you. I am just baffled by everything that has happened to you and I hope they can find a fix soon.

Dana - I would not be acting like an adult if my trip was taken away. But you have to do what is best and always remember there is next year.

Kathy and Lynne - I can't wait to hear how the Ironman went. Wow, it was cold here in Wisconsin this weekend. I don't know about Madison, but I was an hour north and the wind was chilly. I sure wouldn't have been swimming outside.

Mel (Chimera) - I love to sew and do it quite often. Great job on the dress. My girls are begging for real princess dresses this year, so I am looking for DisneyShopping Sales. My dresses always looked way better than the boughten ones. Emma is convinced that the $80 Deluxe dresses are authentic.

OK, my phone keeps ringing, so I better skidaddle.

logged in a short hilly ride today! OK LYNN - ENOUGH REST, WE ARE DYING TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR ADVENTURE

Hello WISH TEam!

Good luck to the DL team in their tapering maddness. It has begun!

Lynne, count me in on wanting to know!

Sunny, lots of them! :grouphug: :grouphug: PD for your strength to carry you through this.

Mel, wow! on that costme.

MelR, good luck on the bike thing. Yes, PT job to fund our "cheap" hobbies would be a good thing. Only thing about that is it cuts into the hobby time!

Dana, sorry that you are thinking it might not work out. Not even a little? Sorry, I couldn't help it. Don't leave us, train for the next one!

Cam and Howard, sounds like you are both so busy. I WISH you will be able to relax through the weekend.

Becka, that was a great trip report last week!

Matt, great race pics and great race too! (I know, I read about it, but I'm not going there--you did great!) DW too!

Jen, sorry about all you are going through with your Mom. Great about dedicating you January event to her.

Bill and Lynnda, Congratulations and Best WISHes for a smooth time ahead.

I've had life get in the way just a bit. Still managed most of my training, just had to give up some post time. It was kind of warmer than I would have liked Saturday for my LR and I suffered some b/c I got it going midday. Humid, I only took 3 8-oz waters with me and needed 4. Didn't have any extra in the car, so Saturday was a crash and burn kinda day. I did ok, 9 miles with a 15:12 pace...still w/in time just draining.

Thanks for the support for DH. He's in a medical trial and it seems that he's got the meds not placebo and the meds ARE helping. It's not life-threatening at least this part of his life...we've lived that part already. He had his colon removed back in '02 and is doing well. This is really the first time he's had any sort of additonal problems with the whole thing. Docs had him go for bone scan to check if the hip replacement ('04) was a direct result of the long-term steriod treatment and we will know if he needs additional supplements in a couple of weeks. He's also doing well since the bypass ('03) and has a new lease on life. '02, '03, '04 were rough times, all's much better now with my bionic man. Stress releasing was what got me started in this business of 5ks, halfs and fulls...works wonders for me too. (mostly)

Got sweaty on the dreaded TM tonight, but got the steps in cuz I didn't want to go out in the light rain. Sissy that I am today.

Hey, is anyone planning on Chat tomorrow? I'll try to make it if anyone wants to stop by for a bit. 8:30 room 2 right?

Total Drive-by post as I have so little time and GOBS of stuff to do before we leave on Friday morning.

Firstly, Mel - we are staying at Pop Friday night before heading to the port early Saturday. We'll be at MNSSHP around 5 depending on if DS takes a nap. I'll PM you my cell number in case you want to try for a quick get-together at the party or elsewhere - would LOVE to see you and the family and also that gorgeous Celtic gown :) BTW, no we did not feel any earthquakes that I noticed :)

Secondly, I finally got the contract from Disney catering for the Illuminations Dessert Party. I will need to sign it and send it back with a $500 deposit. So I will be posting the details in a new thread - if you are attending please read it for all the details.

Thirdly, training is definitely getting the short stick this week. Just too busy trying to tie up loose ends before being gone for a week. DD and I did 8 hours of schoolwork today trying to get everything done before we leave (teacher didn't send it home until yesterday :( ) and we still have another 4 hours or so worth of work to squeeze in tomorrow afternoon and Thursday morning. I am taking my exercise clothes with me on the cruise though and WILL DO SOME TRAINING NO MATTER WHAT!!

Jen - glad your mom is doing better. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers!

Sunny - wish I could do something for you. I feel just terrible about your situation and can only hope all of our continued prayers will work in your favor SOON!

Gotta run and finish yet another load of laundry.

Hey all!
Real short post today...may get back on later. Sorry wasn't around yesterday. There are some real bad issues at work I to deal with. Send extra :wizard: :wizard: .
Later!

Drive by post - Lynne was home last night trying to get stinky laundry done. You could pour water out of her bike and running shoes when they came out of the bags. SHe was working on a presentation she has to give today. After Sunday's experience, she is now sick with a cold.

If she doesn't get a chance to post by tonight, I'll releive the suspense.

Have a great trining day.
