Wk Of Nov 25 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Wow! is all I can say about the long ones this weekend.

Mel - great on the 18, I know you know how to treat pain and injury, so take care of that ankle.

Cam - your 16.25 outclassed my effort today!

Duane - your 18 beats me too, it's gotta be because you're 1 year younger than me.

Laurie - another 18 is most impressive.

Vic - way to go on the 16. I'll share one of my secrets with another manly man. To save those nips I apply white athletic tape, 2 small strips, in the shape of a cross. The shirt rubs the tape, no chafing, no blood!

Amy - a 14 + 7 double, you're further along than I was 2 years ago for Goofy.

Helen - 9 + 18 is really something. You are ready today.

Christa Phipps - your 16+, slowly, was what, 8 minutes per mile? You're a jet.

Keeping up with the gang, I was able to produce 16.1 miles today. It's funny, but yet again the most difficult miles for me were 11 and 12. I'm built for runs of 10 or less, and when I go past that number the mind and the body begin to complain relentlessly. Once I get through 12 something happens and the miles get a bit easier. 16 however, was pretty ugly.

Still, I looked back at my Goofy training, and on this weekend 2 years ago I did 13, and never went any longer after that, a few 10's and 12's, but nothing more. So, IN THEORY, I'm fitter than I was when I ran 2:05/4:47. We'll see if fitness in theory produces actual results.

Best to all. Tomorrow I lift and bike easy. I bet getting out of bed will be loads of fun.

I was able to get 18 in yesterday with a pace of 12:12 if I remember right. Besides being early again, it was really nice temperature and humidity wise. It got hot later but when I was out, it was cool. Sorry honey...:rolleyes1 I never did cramp even though my legs felt tight every now and then. I think that is a first this year for the long runs.

Today's funny anecdote. I was wearing a t-shirt from the Goofy last year that looks like it has a race bib on the front of it. Billy asks why I have a number on me and if I am about to go out for a race. It took a while to get him to figure out that it was actually the design for the shirt. :) I guess you have done a few races when your 4 year old knows what a race bib is and what is about to happen when you are wearing one. :lmao:

Mel - Great job on the 18 miles. You will be ready before you know it. I had just better look out or you are going to pass me on the course. By the way, I think we (me) are going to do the half marathon in Gainesville this spring. I think Lynnda will do the 5k but is going just to cause havoc on the Gator campus. :rotfl2: I think they have a gator medal for the finishers...:rolleyes1

Vic - Sorry about the pain, I hate it when I forget those band-aids. Unfortunately it has happened more than once. :scared1:

Christa - Enjoy your taper and I hope your hip feels better before the race.

Craig - Great job on the 16 miles. You are definately in great shape and looking back over the past year, you have done a great job keeping in shape.

Cam - 4 hours on a treadmill...:scared1: I can't fathom that long on one. I think I will take my hot weather to keep from being on one that long. ;)

I'll apologize to all I missed and hopefully I can keep up a little better this week.

Bill

Craig, WTG on the 16!!! The dynamic duo put up 36 miles this weekend! You two are doing so awesome :).

I'm built for runs of 10 or less, and when I go past that number the mind and the body begin to complain relentlessly. Once I get through 12 something happens and the miles get a bit easier. 16 however, was pretty ugly.

As for what you said...I hear ya' brother! I'm the same way...built for the shorter runs for sure. My body HATES the long mileage...so it's tough trying to respect the Goofy deal. I'm doing my Saturday half-mileage as walk/run and running just a bit shy of marathon pace for the Sunday LRs. I plan to really push during the marathon but enjoy and slow pace the half. So hopefully my plan works ;). But i have to be honest...I have no plans to run over 18 miles pre-marathon. My 9/18 weekend will be my max before taper. I'm far too worried about injury (my tendons get cranky) and I feel confident about completing the distance once I'm out there as long as I show up healthy.

Bill: NICE JOB this weekend. Wow!

Christa: Take care of that hip. If you have time to ice...definitely do it...seems to help me with my aching post-run hip!

Helen: Great job on the goofy training weekend. My hat is off to you...that's some serious running mileage there!!!!! WTG!!!

Everyone is doing quite well! I am excited to hear the LRs are getting done.

Mel, sorry about the ankle pain. I do WISH that you can get it resolved in a quick/good way.

Cam, 4 hours TM, egad! Glad you got it done and a great pace!

I got my 8 miler yesterday on TM 2 hours so I was ok with that. NO way was I wanting to do the 16 miler inside today so I waited for it to warm up a smidge and off I went in 35-40-35 degrees. Loving this weather! I did something new for me. I started from home and went out 8 miles then back. Involved downhill on the way there, butt got kicked on the massive hills on the way back (last 4 miles). I managed 15 min/miles for 12 miles then the hills caused me to walk in the last 4. My overall pace was 17 min/miles so I really crawled those last 4. I still am not certain I'm trained up enough to finish Goofy, but I am now able to get a good try going until the Big weekend.

Happy week everyone.

Just wanted to post that we made it back home safe and sound. But, man, I"m tired of the cold rain--rather have some of the white fluffy stuff over 40s and raining! Do we count 8 1/2 hours in the car watching kids movies as cross-training?? I hang my head in shame that it's been almost a week since my last run, and that was only 3 miles. Who is going to drag me across the finish line in Jan????? Oh, well, starting fresh tomorrow. WILL get in the gym and get some steps in. Time to get in bed for an early morning tomorrow!

I guess you have done a few races when your 4 year old knows what a race bib is and what is about to happen when you are wearing one. :lmao:

Bill- Yes & what a great story! Be sure to write it down some where. I am amazed at all the cute and funny conversations with my toddlers that I have now forgotten. The ones I wrote down are treasures.

Cecilia - GIRL! You got the Goofy in the bag!:thumbsup2 I totally respected the distance when I did it so I have to say it was the easiest half/full marathon I have ever done. YOU GO GIRL! Is that the race you are a TNT coach for?

Christa - Thank you for the encouragement. I still have moments when I think "what am I doing?"

As for the TNT, I am a mentor NOT a coach. I just helped the coaches out at the Atlanta Half. The coaches go through alot of training and most have done double digits in marathons. Every coach I have met is so completely dedicated to TNT that it is a honor to know them. In respect for them I need to make it ultra clear that I, in no way, am qualified.

I am however, a mentor for TNT. Mentors run the race just like the participants. Our job is to assist the coaches during training and to provide moral support for the training and fundraising.

Cecilia

Good morning Team. Just a quick stop for me here to wish everyone a great run/walk/bike/swim today.

My princess and I are going to do 9 miles today. It's raining right now but we are going to try and get it done as soon as it stops.

Remember a smile is more aerodynamic than a frown, so you encounter less resistance when you smile at everyone you meet.

Have a great day y'all.

Back on the road again Panda:hippie:

Hi guys!!!!

 :cheer2: For all of you!!! WOW! You guys are really logging some LRs!

Mel--Hope your ankle pain is getting better!

Lisa--How are you feeling? Any trip to the ER is NO FUN!!!

My update... We went to MD to visit the cousins. On Thursday we hiked 4.5 miles and on Friday I completed Day 3 / Week 6 of the C25K!!! I jogged for 25 minutes!!! It was SLOW!!! My 2nd mile took 17 minutes! :scared1: In one way, I find it kinda funny how slow I am!

Overall we had a good weekend. Matt had his 2nd sezuire though. We were standing in TJ Maxx just getting ready to check out. :sad2: I'm pretty confident it's one of his medications. He's fine now. He was a bit tired that evening, but was fine yesterday. His first one happned at work and I did not witness it, I met them at the hospital. This time, I was there and I stayed pretty calm, but now... It's scarey to think (what if he was driving, on his motorcycle, what if it had a happened when we were hiking and he was standing on the rocks taking pictures...) Not cool, not cool! It terrible seeing something like that happen knowing you can't do anything about it, you just have to wait for it to run it's course...

Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Stacie

Well hopefully I can get more running done this week that I have since TOT. I have been totally lazy (the shoulder and vacation hasn't helped) I can totally tell a difference in my breathing and that I am not able to stay running for as long due to being out of breath. I am thinking the next couple of runs are going to be on the TM so I can get my breathing condition back up. I went out for a 2 miler yesterday and my legs felt fine and my shoulder felt fine (then again I did just get a cortisone shot in the shoulder so it should feel fine!! LOL) Like others have been saying I need to sign up for a distance race so that I have something to work for - right now its too easy to NOT go running.

All who have logged LR - you guys are amazing. I am so in awe of all the miles this team is logging. As I have said I am getting lazy and need some motivation and seeing your milage is helping. I am embarassed at the few miles I have done in the past month compared to everyone here. :scared:

Laurie - Hope you got your scrapbooking done. I put up Christmas decorations (inside trees and lights outside) this weekend because of no NASCAR. Hopefully I will be able to keep my Sunday's busy until February!! Have fun at Disney - Lucky you!!

Lynnda - Congrats on the 8 mile walk. I hear you on getting some of that frigid air sent our way. The 80's and sleeveless shirts after Thanksgiving is for the birds!!! :lmao:

Sorry Vic but I am :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: at Christa's post and imagine that if you wore a jog bra it might help - but then again other's might question it!! LOL :rotfl:

Stacie - Sorry to hear about Matt. That can be a real scary thing. Hopefully the seziures can be brought under control.

I am hopefully going some time this week for a new pair of shoes. Got money from my dad for my birthday tomorrow. Now I have enough to get my new running shoes and the TOT CD of pictures.

Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Monday.

Hi all -

Had a really good 8 miles on Saturday. :thumbsup2 We decided to try a new route around my dad's condo complex. It was off the road so we didn't have to worry about crazy Saturday morning shoppers on our usual backroads. Anyway, I have learned a couple of things from that run....

* If you think a road is flat because you have driven on it a hundred times and you don't remember any hills...you're wrong. There were several long insidious hills. My splits were not as fast as I would have liked to them to be at this point in my training but I got a heck of a workout! :woohoo: Charlie did 16 miles and said it was probably the toughest run he's ever done. He, of course, looked like a gazelle at mile 2 and also mile 15. You couldn't tell the difference. Grrr. Don't you just hate that? :headache:

* I think I am as ready fitness-wise as I will ever be, for this race anyway. I spent most of my L/R thinking "Am I ready for this?" and answering myself with a resounding YES! I also keep asking myself "Are you going as fast as you can possible go right this minute?" The answer is always no, so I push myself just a little more. It feels really great to have developed that fortitude. :thumbsup2 I know now I can reach down and pull it out some mojo and keep that "relentless forward motion" going. I feel really great about my ability, if not my speed. I'm not getting too arrogant, but feeling confident, which is right where I want to be about now.

* I'm really ready to go and would just like to get thru December without taking my MIL out. Holy cow she's a piece of work.:headache: But I digress.

I've read the posts about this being the last WDW for some people. I have to say, I have no Full or Goofy aspirations. I'm having so much fun preparing and doing the WDW Half that I don't want to ruin it. :yay: And that is what would happen right now if I tried to do the Full. I'm considering doing the Full for my 50th birthday, which would give me, ohhh, about 15 years. OK, alright. 4 years. But we'll have to see how these next couple of Halfs go. I'm not really a candidate for a Full. I don't have the time to train for that kind of mileage. I see how hard it is. How time consuming. Also, I'm way too heavy to put in those kinds of milage. I would have to lose a significant amount of weight before I trained for a Full. Also, quite frankly, having ev-er-y-thing hurt after L/Rs of 16-18 miles, well, quite frankly, doesn't appeal to me. I am afraid all those things combined would burn me out. So I think I'll stick with the Half and a bunch of local smaller races. This seems to work out just fine for me. :thumbsup2 I'm having a great time, getting healthier - if not thinner. I feel really great about what I have accomplished and can now do. And I want this to stay fun so I keep doing it. I don't need longer miles for that.

OK let me pretend like I'm doing work. But I'll really be catching up with everyone.

If I don't get back to regularly scheduled cross training I'm going to need a jog bra. If you know what I mean. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

So, I am relieved to know I'm not the only one starting to feel the high mileage! Last weekend, above my right knee started to hurt towards the end of my 18 miler (IT Band?) I took two days off and iced. Ran again on Wednesday and Thursday with no problems. Saturday my Goofy schedule called for 8 on Saturday and 13 on Sunday. I did the 8 Saturday, and felt great until the last 1/2 mile when the same little pain came back. I decided to be conservative and didn't do my Sunday run. Nothing hurts now, but I'm feeling apprehensive...

I don't have enough experience to know when something hurts because I've run a ridiculous amount of miles/time, or when it hurts because it's leading to an injury (I'm assuming when you just kind of ache all over, that's ok, but when something specific hurts, that's a borderline injury- very technical approach, I know. )

Is this some sort of pre-taper madness, when you look back at your calendar and are really proud of yourself, and then look at December and want to thunk your head on any available surface? :rolleyes1

Hey, on the bright side, I've managed to enter the BMZ and the "wallowing in self-pity" zone without even running one step today! Am I becoming an advanced runner or what!:rotfl: Oh, and I have a new appreciation for my sports bra after reading about all the bandaids and taping!:scared1:

Sorry for the whining.

I have to say I am surprised that I don't feel too, too sore today after my 25.5 mile weekend. Don't get me wrong though - stairs are a definite challenge! Upon closer inspection both of my blisters were just the regular kind and because they were so painful and would have prohibited running I opted to drain them. Yuck. Tonight is fit ball, then running Tuesday and Wednesday...

I never had the quiggly nippies untill the 2007 Disney Marathon. I wore a tech shirt with a stripe at nipple level. The seam went right across them. I know that was real flipping smart.

Ouch Panda:hippie:

OK...Back to the craziness of my life!

Hi, everyone! WOW!!! Look at all those miles! (Which reminds me I have to go add mine to Dave's WISH miles thread).

Lou --Aren't you supposed to be in a recovery period? I am thinking a black & tan WITHOUT a work project would fit the bill quite nicely!

MSDave -- same there for you! Don't beat yourself up because you shopped instead of running in the cold! I like your plan just fine! ;)

AmyBeth - I am glad you got both of your runs in. How was your 14 in the cold? I actually find that I don't mind if it is just chilly. But if the air is so cold that it hurts to bring it into my lungs, no way am I going outside! I give you (and all the others running outside in the cold) a LOT of credit! I can't even imagine how you find the energy to do everything you do! Pilates, ski machine, all that xt!!

Stephanie -- You deserve HUGE kudos for all that xt in the car. ACK!!!!! I'll bet there there many times you wanted to stop the car and jog a bit!

Leana -- OUCH on the blisters! I can't believe you ran with them!!

Mel -- I am so proud of you for doing those miles in such a great time, and especially how impressive your 1/2 marathon split was. But PLEASE be careful with that ankle -- you are too close now to blow a year's worth of training before the event! Sending you pixiedust: sweetie! As far as food, I have found the snickers marathon energy bars make a huge difference to my immediate energy level and to my endurance. I usually cut them in half and put them in a ziploc, to be taken 1/2 at a time.

Okay, Christa, I am worried about you, too! What are you doing to take care of your hip? Are you stretching enough? My doctor told me my hip problems were likely associated with a tight hamstring and told me all kinds of stretches to do. Good luck with the recording and all your show stuff this week!

Mike -- a bunch of us joked about having food during the full in front of the YC/BC, and our WISH teammates were a lifesaver. Quite frankly, the sportbeans and orange powerade and non-Dasani water offered there was so much better than a kitchen sink!

Hey, Renee -- I hope you enjoyed your rest day!

Duane -- sounds like a great run around the world! Oh, and I have modified the MfM plan the same way and it really did help mentally last year! This year I am doing the same just because I can't be sure of having training time during the holidays because of antipated job mega-deadlines. UGH!

Laurie -- Tell Mickey we all send our love! Have an awesome trip!

Oh, Vic -- The first time I ever saw a guy with bloody nipples was at mile 24 of the 2006 WDW while I was cheering. I almost passed out in sympathy. I am so sorry you suffered that. I have heard that those small round bandaids are a perfect fit for that. Though you should probably listen to Steve's advice, who actually has some relevant experience, apparently! :)

Lynnda--Great job on your 8 miler!!! Oh, and you will love "August Rush"! The music is so creative!

Helen and Cecilia-- I am so impressed that you are already so ready for Goofy!! :thumbsup2 Great job, ladies!

Craig -- Great job on your 16.1!!! :cheer2: Just think -- that is the longest you have ever run in a non-race setting, right? That is absolutely awesome!!! And to be this far ahead of where you were 2 years ago is just GREAT!!!!

Bill -- Fun story about Billy!! And congrats on your miles and your pace!

Lily -- awsome job on the Goofy training! THose are some serious miles, too, and especially with hills. I think that even if you can't increase your mileage between now and Goofy weekend, you will be fine. Just be very careful with that knee!

Stacie -- I am so sorry to hear about Matt. How scary that must have been for both of you.

Tricia -- I'll bet once you get those new shoes, you won't be able to resist getting some miles in! :cool1:

Judy -- I LOVE your positive attitude!! :lovestruc You go girl! You are definitely so much more fit than this time last year and you are well on your way to a new PR! Glad you are recognizing that!

Jen -- DH and I saw a lime green jogging stroller at our race on Thanksgiving Day and I was telling Howard about how you do all your long runs with your stroller and how you resorted to putting Harry in footie pjs but he needs to body glide his feet first and we were both giggling over the thought!! We are both glad you have company in your training but give you HUGE props for not using the young 'un as an excuse NOT to get out. And pushing that stroller has to add some multiplier to your miles, kiddo! :)

No training for me today, though I am not tired or sore at all. Just have no time with a 5:15 meeting and a strong sense of responsibility to get home and cook for DS14 (his last night of Thanksgiving break), Howard who is chest deep in research papers and heading into his next to last semester of finals, and my DMIL, who really is no trouble at all (though she frequently comments on how little time I have at home, etc., etc.) Geez, I'm not getting a complex or anything that she thinks my DH or DS or DD are neglected! Actually, yesterday I cooked brunch, made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and dinner before sending DD19 back to campus with leftovers and cookies. AND I packed up summer clothes, organized winter clothes, AND wrapped lots of Christmas presents. Okay, I am calling that cross-training! :lmao:

No training for me to report today, unfortunately. :sad2:

BUT....we spent all afternoon at the car dealership haggling.
And I am the proud owner of a new Toyota Matrix! :woohoo:
Well, it is on the truck & I will have it by Thursday at the latest.
So, I will just consider it xt - I hate dealing with car dealers!

And today was the last day on prednisone.
I am so looking forward to not eating everything in sight! :rotfl:

Back on track tomorrow!

(I copied and pasted this from another thread. Yes, I am feeling lazy right now...:surfweb: )

Cecilia, congrats on your half! :cheer2:
I thought about you that morning with all that heavy rain. I was sending you sympathy vibes. :goodvibes

Scott, congrats on your fast Gobble Jog 10K time! Wow! :woohoo:

Well, I'm just now getting back into the groove from being out of town. My Gobble Jog 10K went well. As I've mentioned before, I've kinda been in a funk lately - gained four pounds, total lack of motivation, feet problems... I had a goal to run it under 11:00, but as race day came I was just hoping to complete the race. Course, it was raining like crazy when we got down there. Where was the drought? We stayed in our car in the parking deck until right before the race started and like Scott mentioned - the rain literally stopped minutes before the start time. I think DH ran out once to get our T-shirts. Not alot of adrenaline going for me like at Race for the Taste...

I ended up making my goal by just a few seconds! :lmao: My time was 1:08:08.9 - pace of 10:59!!! :yay: I'm slowly getting faster. My Race for the Taste time last month was 1:13:15 - pace of 11:48, so I'm getting there. Course, I was surprised how many people blew past me. Race for the Taste I spent the first couple miles going around people - kinda a motivator. Here it seemed like everyone was passing me. It was an eye opener. Is it normally like this or was it only the more dedicated runners and those trying to qualify for the Peachtree came out in that rain? I guess slower people run races at WDW? :rotfl2: Regardless, I feel pretty darn slow now even if I did make my goal. :rotfl:

DH meet his goal, too. He even had time to run to the car and get the camera to take some action shots of me coming towards the finish. Yes, he is that much faster than me. :rolleyes1

Oh, new shoes worked well! It was only the second time I had worn them (So I was a tad worried.) but I had no problems at all. I'm so glad I went back and asked them to help me with another pair.

Looking ahead I'm so busy I want to scream! BUT, I did manage to finally get Hannah Montana tickets for this Wednesday. My daughters are so excited! :dance3: I really don't know how I'll train next year for the WDW half during the holidays. I really admire you guys! :santa:

Hey, I just wanted to say I've enjoyed my rest night. I'm a bit sore, not too bad, but I'm glad it is a rest night.

Yay! for new cars, boo for weight gain, boo for late meetings and guilt tripping b/c we are away from home for whatever that reason, boo on nip bleeds, yay! for jog bras, yay on sticking to halfs and smaller events just b/c they are fun! Boo on the siezures, Yay for mentors, yay for good weekends.

and yay! good night.

Hi Everyone,

I got my 19 mi LR in yesterday. It started out OK. Damp and in the lower 40s, then at mile 3 the rain started. Ugh. It rained non-stop for the next 16 miles. I considered moving inside to the treadmill, but the thought of 3 hours on the treadmill made me more miserable than running in the cold rain. I ran the first 10 miles on the roads then put on my MP3 player and ran the next 9 at the track. I don't like to run with music generally because I like to be aware of my surroundings mainly for safety reasons, but since there was no one else at the track, I blasted my Xmas music and actually enjoyed the run. I'm definately sore today, but no major complaints. Just 2 more LRs to get through. Still no race packet.

Mel: Hope your ankle is better. I always bring a small bag of pretzels with me on my LRs. I like having something solid to put into my stomach after the gels and all the water.

Duane: Glad you enjoyed your run in Vegas. Good job on completing 18.

Laurie: Hope you enjoy your trip.

Vic: Great job on your 16. Sorry about the shower.

Leana: Nice back to back runs. Hope the blisters are better.

Helen: Congrats on your LRs. Pretty cool to be running over the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Judy: Congrats on your LR. Sorry for the hills. What a great attitude you have. Glad your fitness is where you need it to be to feel confident.

Cam: Great job on your 4 hour treadmill effort. I'm jealous you've already begun wrapping gifts. I always put it off till the last minute then dread doing it.

Kristi: Congrats on your new car.

Shan: Congrats on beating your goal time.

Best WISHes to all I've missed.

Cindy
