Wk of May 6--WISH Walking/Running Club

Krista- I'm very excited for you and Steve to be going back to WDW. I want to go for a whole week when it's just vacation, no marathons, no meetings, or anything. That would be great!

So AI watchers, what did you think last night? I thought the Barry Gibb night was sooooooo boring. Man, those songs sounded like elevator music. I told DW that I didn't think any of them should stick around - maybe Jordan.

And hopefully for the marathon I'll be standing with the spectators because I'm not allowed to run. ;) ;) ;)

I did see a couple of people that probably shouldn't have done the marathon so it would be possible. Since you are coming down to the area, we would be more than willing to let you practice at 2:00 AM. ;)

Well, got a really good run in this am. Did a tempo/speed workout. 4 miles in 35-ish--increasing the speed from 6.0-7.5 and then back down. Gotta make these speed workouts a little more consistent if I'm gonna stay with that sub-4hr. pace group!;)

Krista--Whatever could you be meaning????;) Make sure you get to do all those "big" rides this trip to WDW--cuz' come January you might have to sit those out as well!;)

Angie--Scott is already looking at airfare to Orlando for RFTT. He's gone completely crazy! We're supposed to be running a marathon the weekend before--so I'm not sure if we'll even be vertical in a week! And how do we explain 2 trips in back to back weekends--gotta love him though, he'll find a way!

Sunny--many hugs and PD coming your way! I hope they can find something to ease your pain. Good luck with your upcoming marathon

Shan--wow on your day! Amazing you kept going to get your workout in--you go girl!

Well, I should go and shower--DD says I'm stinky. Have agreat day all!

Hi, everyone! Well, I haven't trained at all since the Minnie but I did get my butt in gear last night enough to do 100 crunches and 100 pushups on the swiss ball. I am really going to focus on getting off more pounds before the CDC. I think doing the crunches and pushups and getting back into strength training should make a big difference.
Dave -- so excited for your DDs' race in 2 weeks! Any chance of buying some "medals" for them at the party goods store or those pins that say "Winner" or "Great Job"? Oh, heck, just take them out for ice cream afterwards! ;)

Glad to see nearly all our WISHers are back and posting. I know Judy gets back today and Rhonda next Monday, but by then Stephen and Krista will be missing. It's so nice to live vicariously through our WISHers who are at the World! :goodvibes
Hoping to have something significant to report, training-wise, tomorrow.

ETA: somehow the bottom of my post got chopped out! :confused3

Sunny: I am so sorry you are going through this. Please know you are in my prayers. Sending pixiedust: and :goodvibes your way, sweetie.

Oh, drat. I was hoping someone would have a magic solution for my gas drenched running clothes. :lmao:

I hate throwing them out, course it was my fav shorts and shirt. I even got the gas on my new running hat I just bought. (Yep, wore it only once!) Even my sports bra still smells. Each has been washed three times. Guess it's time to throw them out. Bugger!

Thanks everyone!

Shan - I just remebered tha tMurphy's Oil soap worked when my brother had a summer job in a factory. You may want to try that.

Thanks for the reminder Cam, I was going to look into getting medals or trophies for them. I'll do that now.

GIRLS!

Carrie mentioned skirtsports.com offering a discount if you exchange an old pair of shorts so I went over to check it out and they're having a Mother's Day sale! Sale ends May 14th.

I just got a GymGirl - 1 pocket for 50% off PLUS I used the WISH discount for another 15%! :woohoo:
Thanks Leana!

They were out of black for my size so I got the Blue Hawaii.

BTW, I googled and saw numerous threads that said to use a cup of white vinegar in the wash to get gasoline smell out of clothes. Maybe I'll try a couple more things before tossing them out. :confused3

I had these grand dreams that work would slow down by now, but it's been crazy this week, too. :sad2: Oh, well, guess that's job security, right?

Just wanted to drop in and say hi to everyone! Hope all is well and maybe I'll be able to catch up next week.

Carrie - did you wear a skirtsports skirt at the Minnie? If so, how did you like it? I checked out the Target ones last night, but didn't even try them on because of what Stephanie and Jackie said about them. I have a terrible time with cheap shorts riding up on me, even compression/spandex type. I need a miracle!!!

Dave - Medals are a great idea! Do they get t-shirts? I am running my half marathon on May 20 and now am debating signing my kids up for the kids race. Is that the same weekend as your 5K?? My girls will get a shirt for doing it, but my youngest has asthma and I worry that the run will be too long for her. She did the kids race in January at disney and pushed it so fast in the heat I thought she would break down in an asthma attack. Thankfully a glass of water got her breathing under control (She drank it, I didn't throw it at her).

Jen - I liked my skirt. It does sit rather low on the hips, but our WISH shirts are plenty long enough to mak eup for that. They are very comfy adn breathe well. The gym girl has built in compression shorts (instead of "spankies"), so there's not riding up. Now, as to whther or not the stripes make my butt look big, I'm not sure. Sadly, that's likely just my butt. ;) Need to post some of those pics all over my home and office to remind me that I need to get it in gear soon!

Carrie--meant to mention before, but not only were the sponges a big hit on race day--But DD thought it was for her when we got home. She thinks it's the best bath toy ever!:thumbsup2 She even took it to gymnastics today to show off. Oh, and the zebra stripes in no way make your butt look big!;)

Shan--you evil, evil woman--now I must go check out skirtsports!:rotfl:

Who else thought Barry Gibb sounded like Darrell Hammond doing Sean Connery on Saturday Night Live? I kept expecting to hear him make comments about Alex Trebek's mom! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OMG, that is soooo funny! I kept asking my husband "who does he sound like?" Then finally it occurred to me.......Sean Connery? No, the Jeopardy Sean Connery on SNL!!!!!!! I kept waiting for him to say "sw-ords!"

:
So I can't blame it on the stripes? :sad1: ;) So glad that your dd likes the sponge too. Talk about versatile! :p BTW, are you two doing Chicago?

Does NOBODY feel like working today? We've added 3 pages since this morning! (And thank goodness for that, since I needed something to do at work to keep me awake.)

I haven't slept well (or long enough) since Sunday, so the morning TM workouts have been a no go. Usually I can at least make it up in time for the weights, but not even the thought that we leave for WDW in 28 days has been able to motivate me!

Shan - Pickles and sweat - that one made me laugh! :rotfl:

Sunny - More pixiedust: Hope someone finds a solution SOON!

Cam - I'm lovin' your trip report!

HMHunters - Stay really busy on Mother's Day (and all weekend). I swear last year everyone made such a big deal of the day, and all I wanted was to forget about it. And absolutely stay out of Hallmark stores!

Guess the boss would like me to work?

Jackie

Okay I've decided to stop lurking and really post. I added a post this morning to the thread for those committed to running WDW 2008 marathon.

I need this forum because I desperately need somewhere to "talk running" -- okay in my case it's mostly "talk walking/running" but you get the idea. Here's my situation. I have been running/walking for several years now -- off and on. I started after my 4th child was born -- I was 41 at the time and wanted to get back into shape. Somehow in looking for a walking program on line I happened onto Hal Higdon's site and the rest was history. That first year I participated in a 5K -- meeting my goal of running the whole way no matter how slowly. The next year I did an 8K -- had the same goal and met it. For about the next 4 years I still ran/walked but not as regularly -- no races. I still read Runners World and dreamed.

Then something happened. I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I had emergency surgery (due to a perforation from the colonoscopy that diangosed me) in February 2006. Started chemo in April (every 2 weeks for the next year) -- I just finished about a month ago. The last 6 months of chemo were not bad -- it was a research drug with few side effects. However, the first 6 months were rough at times. At one point I was so tired and felt so bad that I told my husband (jokingly) "When this is all over I think I'm going to train for a marathon, because I don't think I could be any tireder after 26 miles than I am right now." He laughed and I laughed, but something in me really meant it. So, while I laid in bed recovering after each chemo treatment, while my family carried on all the regular things I was too tired to do --- I dreamed. Then I started to pray about it, and read Marathoning for Mortals, and my dream began to grow and grow and grow.

This is what I decided to do -- train for a marathon, and save for a trip to WDW without telling my family!!! I want it to be a Celebration Run. I feel I am not only a cancer survivor but a cancer victor (I just had an "all clear" colonoscopy this week) and I want to celebrate God's faithfulness by running in the WDW Marathon and giving the gift of joining me to my family as a Christmas present. :santa: I had just finished the "rough chemo" when we went to WDW in 2006 for my daughter's senior trip (we home school so her senior trip was also a family vacation) so WDW is sort of place of celebration for us anyway.

I have confided in only three girl friends, none of whom are runners. I can't talk much about running around the house or my family is going to wonder "what's up with her".

Sorry if this is way more info than anyone wanted, but it's a big part of why I'm running and why I need somewhere to vent.

I'm still figuring out all the smilies and great clippies everyone uses so bear with me. Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for giving me an outlet.
Dona
