Wk of May 6--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning Team:

I don't have a lot of time to post because I have to get to work. Steve- posted a race report on the report thread. In sum, the Flying Pig Half was great, tons of fun. Steve and I ran together the whole way, and we met our time goal of a sub-2 hour half marathon. We finished in 1:58.37. I thought I would post some pictures of our weekend here.

Here are photos from the Flying Pig Expo

That's all I got because my batteries then ran out on the camera. That made the decision easy about whether I would run with it or not. OK, I have to get to work.

Hi all --- I have been off the boards for quite a while. It's been a rough year as my mom died unexpectedly after a tough week at the hospital in and out of ICU. It was a long time before I felt I was functioning normally again.

But I'm back and I've signed up for the WDW Full 2008! DH will be doing the half again. We're also considering the 13K in October, with our kids.

:cheer2: Congrats to all the WISH Minnie and Flying Pig racers -- looks like a good time was had by all!

I did my 50 minute run this morning, but I did it on the treadmill as it's just too windy for me outside today. It actually felt really great! Still, I'm wondering about my decision to do the full instead of the half...

HMHunters - very sorry to read about your mom passing. Welcome back.

During my race on Sunday I saw several women wearing the kinds of shorts I admired back in January at WDW. They've got several mesh pockets built in around the waistband to hold Gu, keys, etc. I asked and learned that they're available from a site called raceready.com. http://www.raceready.com/images/2302LD_michelle.jpg So, I ordered a pair. Looks like something I can use instead of a fanny pack, which I find uncomfortable. I'll let you know how they fit/move.

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!!! :yay: :woohoo: :yay:

I just went over to DisneyRunning a few minutes ago and looked at all the awesome pics! :thumbsup2

Yesterday I started week 5. I had to run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute for 40 minutes total. I ended up going 3.31 miles at an average pace of 12:06 - my best average pace yet.

Unfortunately, the Lands End running skort I was so excited about didn't work as well as I had hoped. The shorts underneath rode up so high I might as well have been just wearing my underwear. :sad2:

Yep, I seem to have a real problem with this. It is gonna be painful when the heat really kicks up! :scared1:

On a happier note, I finally budged on the scale. I have stayed the same weight since I started this program 4 weeks ago. I finally lost 2 pounds! Seems like a lot of work for 2 pounds, though! :rotfl:

HM-So sorry for your loss.

Dave- Love the pictures!

This is something I thought happened after eating Haggis :crazy2: . I didn't realize it was a sporting event ;) QUOTE]

That's what I thought when I signed up and I figured I'd win at THAT event because the just the idea of eating it makes me want to hurl!:scared:

Shan - Thanks for the update on the Land's End skirt. I have that riding up problem also and am having a difficult time find shorts that don't ride up.

Dave - AWESOME PICS. Loved the race report also. Great finish time for you and Steve!!! You two seem to make a great running pair!

HM: so sorry for your loss

Dave and Mel: great photos! Thank-you so much for posting.

I couldn't understand why there were so few posts regarding the weekend......and then I realized i was on last week's thread! Still not used to resubscribing every week!

Jackie:as I mentioned on last week's thread - and which you'll probably never see - I too just learned about the Raleigh marathon. I like the fact that they actually encourage walkers. I know it's the weekend right after the Tof T, but I plan to sign up for the half and use it as my LW that week. I wish I had learned about it sooner since we just missed the early registration discount by a few days. And since I want my very first marathon to be special, I am "saving myself" for the Mickey in '08!

Off to read all the reports!

I just love this group! Everyone is just so loving!

In response to your questions.... I am thinking about doing the Tower of Terror run... and I am definitely doing the 1/2 in 08.. and I would love to actually run some of it this time! LOL!!

And to those ladies looking for shorts that don't ride up... They don't exist!! LOL!! :rotfl: :rotfl: What I have resorted to is the double layer trick. I use the biker shorts ... the wick material.... and then put regular running shorts over that. Works for me. No chubb rub ;)

One more week till I can get back to training!!! Yipppppepeeeeeee!!

I can't wait to see the pics from the Minnie! I am sure all the gang had a blast! I am sooooo jealous! That was my first ever marathon last year.. and it holds a special place in my heart!

Have a great day everyone!

Kathy

Shan - Thanks for the update on the Land's End skirt. I have that riding up problem also and am having a difficult time find shorts that don't ride up.

Dave - AWESOME PICS. Loved the race report also. Great finish time for you and Steve!!! You two seem to make a great running pair!

Rats, I also am hoping for a better solution for shorts - thanks for the update - Thanks Valentine that's what I was afraid of, but that is a good solution..

HMhunters - Sorry for your loss -

It was me that was questioning the GPS mileage gatorphipps - in my beginning travels, I hope the miles add up faster than what they do (It always feels much longer than the reality!) Thanks for the information, I found it very helpful!!

I must've hit some kinda wall today - it was the first time I did a back to back train - and I just couldnt jog today... I was very discouraged... dh thinks its my shoes, and I'll do better when I get the right shoe...

Dave - GREAT pix! Thanks so much for posting them. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun.

HM - Sorry for your loss. Went through that last year just as I started running - I know how tough that can be. Welcome back!

Jeanne - A mini-WISH meet at the Raleigh marathon. Hooray! I'm doing the half too, though I haven't registered yet. Didn't know about the early registration discount either until the date had passed. Oh well, it's only more money spent to keep me running!

Kathy - Yeah! Another Half-er! So many people moved up from the half to the full; I was afraid early in the year I'd be out there all by myself. (Or at least Judy and I would be out there by ourselves!)

I tried the skort at Target yesterday - it was a definite NO! DD took one look at me and said "Mom, no!" So I took her advice and put it back on the rack. Guess I'll stick to shorts for now.

Jackie

Jackie - OMG, that is funny about the skirt!!! I was hoping to hit Target for some kind of shorts. I have running shorts that I wear in the privacy of my home or on a deserted trail... but I really need some for my 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks. I am starting to get desperate!!! I wore tights for the 1/2 in January because I did not want the ride up problem... but I was stinking hot with them on!!!!

All you WDW 1/2ers... don't forget about all the Goofy runners/walkers. They will be doing the 1/2 also and many do it at a slower pace to save themselves for the full. Don't worry about being alone. Our WISH delegation is getting so large that there is no way you will be alone. Tho I did run the 1/2 by myself, I saw so many WISHers cheering me on that I never felt alone!!!

There is that thread about the skirtsports.com... They seemed so expensive, but by now I could have bought a pair after buying all these other cheaper ones that don't work... :sad2:

Ya, the one at Target was scary on me. It was like - Hey everybody! Look at my stomach!
I'm really sad about the Lands End one. It actually looks very nice on, tummy practically hidden. Oh, well...

I have no time to post since I flew back home this afternoon and have to get ready for work tomorrow - I just wanted to pop in about a few things:

Congrats to our Flying Pigs!

Stephanie, Angie & Kathy - I am so sorry I didn't go to Jellyrolls at 8pm! I was so tired & could not remember anyone saying that they definately would be there at 8 or so. I texted Cam to see if she knew anyone & I called Anne. I didn't have anyone else's phone info. I felt really bad last night when I got there & you guys had been there all that time! If I knew, I would have shown up. I just had these thoughts of being there at 8 all by myself until the Cam group showed up at 10:30!

Judy - I will forgive you (and your sleepy cohorts) this time.... ;) I thought you looked really tired on Saturday and honestly, I didn't expect to see you at JRs...even though I was hoping you'd come.

As much as I love our WISH shirts....they emphasize the not-so-flat tummy area! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: That safety yellow draws your attention right there - esp. since the shirts are loooong. I don't even want to look at any more race pics from this weekend. :sad2:

Even though I said what I said above - I will try to get some pics into photobucket before I go to bed. I'll then post them here tomorrow morning at work.

HELLO HELLO HELLO

What an awesome weekend.

Kristy PLEASE !!! DO NOT WORRY ABOUT JELLYROLLS. We were not supposed to be there until 10:30, my crazy family decided to cancel our fantasmic res. at last minute, so DH and I decided to come early and Stephanie had just got there.

Speaking of family, mine was really anxious to go after race and I am VERY sorry we did not stick around to chear you guys on. You guys have been so supportive of me!! I am so sorry.

So I posted pics and reports of race and grad, but just a quick recap.

Graduation was INCREDIBLE!!
AND
MINNIE WAS AWESOME!! :yay:

Chip time for MINNIE was 1:22:54 for about an 8:55 pace!! :dance3:

I really have to unpack now but I will (hopefully) be able to keep up on thread now cause I have NO MORE HOMEWORK. :cheer2:

angie

Well, we just made it home--got the kids their goodies and then to bed. Oh, and for those at breakfast at Spoodles this am, my DD LOVED getting her Minnie gold medal--and much to our surprise, she figured out exactly where we had gone. At least she didn't get mad at us for visiting Mickey w/o her--she was just in awe of the medal.

Kristi--OMG--Please don't appologize for coming later. We had just arrived at Jellyrolls after Illuminations. And we were having a great time.

Angie--Scott is still talking about coming back for RFTT--he's become an addict. But he also wanted me to tell you and your DH how much fun he had last night--he said ya'll are so much fun to hang out with

Mike/Optimator--Just wanted to let you know the DH and I did you proud yesterday and got a beer in your honor in Germany--We each had an Optimator! definitley a great post-race food!

To everyone at EoS Saturday, thanks for being so welcoming, especially Anne!;) I was afraid DH would be stand-offish upon meeting everyone--but he had a great time. And he now wants his own WISH shirt for January!

The whole weekend was the best. My WISH friends are the greatest! Oh, I guess I should say DH and I finished in 1:23:50--couldn't quite catch up with Angie (she was the first WISH finisher) Must've had to do with that pesky potty break!

About the skirts! My sis has the same problem with things riding up on her... she got one of those skirts from the skirtsports.com and she loves it...she even got the WISH 15% discount. Someone posted the code a while back I think it is WISH, but cannot remember. They are expensive, but they work.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Wow, I love reading all the race reports. It's absolutely fantastic! I don't know where to post my replies, but I'll try.

First of all, HMHunters I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you had a very difficult time. Welcome back to the group.

Angie- Congratulations on your graduation! You are amazing balancing family, school, and training. Fantastic! I loved your Minnie report. Congrats on leading the WISH team.

Stephanie- Congratulations to you too on your great Minnie time. WTG! Maybe you and Angie can help pull Steve and I to a 4 hour full marathon in January (if I can get there).

Denny- Your pictures are great! I'm really impressed with your ability to take pictures while running. I hope you don't mind if I copy some (or all) of them. Your pictures really remind me just how crowded the race was. The first couple of miles it was really tough to move. Your pictures really remind me what a beautiful day it was to run.

Krista- Your post about the "heated" discussion with Steve at the start made me laugh. :rotfl: I think the discussion went something like this, "Are you OK? Do you need to slow down?" You guys were great. Thanks again for everything.
