Wk of May 27--WISH Running/Walking Club

Carrie- Thanks to that Michigan training, Brady is still fairly fresh (or is it refreshed-- no thats cam) as he wasn't even good enough to be a full time starter.

poppinspal-Wait a minute. What's wrong with wrestlers? I wrestled in high school and college.* That's why this distance event thing is going to be a challenge. I used to always tell my wrestling coach in college during pre-season conditioning practices that if someone could run 4 miles around that little mat in 7 minutes without getting thrown out for stalling, I'd give him the match. Even when I was impersonating an athlete, I hated distance running.

ETA: * OK maybe that is part of the reason I am a proud YARC member.

Obviously some peole need to re-think who's good enough to be a starter,a s he won teh super bowl when he wasn't. ;) rotfl on our own Fresh Cam.

Bill, I was at Michigan while Brady was there, and got to attend many games at Michigan Stadium where he was the starter. You're right though, he never was "The Man" there. Everyone was so enamored with "Super Drew" Henson from up the road at Carrie's alma mater Brighton High School. "Super Drew" was supposed to be the second coming, and no one appreciated Brady for what he could do. There's a lot of Michigan fans that claim him now though.

Believe me I've got nothing but love for wrestlers. I think I took two to dances in hs and dated another one. But being a 16 year old girl in the whirlpool for a pulled hamstring with a bunch of senior wrestlers for a half an hour. It was a little intimidating. But hey I think wrestlers would make great runners if only because I think they tend to be more devoted to sports then some athletes!

DAve & Pat'sBill - Duh, how did I miss teh refernce to Hensen?! Yeah, poor Tom took wquite the backseat to Drew. ANyone know if Henson is still on the practice squad for Dallas? Wonder if he's still got any of those bonus signing millions left from OSU grad whats'his'name of teh YAnkees? :rolleyes1

I also got my first one on one challange while I was walking early this AM as what I believe was a slug passed me. I tried drafting behind it for a little bit but soon realized that the size differential, given I am currently 400+ lbs and the slug was maybe a couple of grams, didn't help me much with him in front. I then remembered it wasn't NASCAR, so I thought back to some stuff I read about race strategies. I think it is Dave McGovern who spoke about sticking to a person ahead of you. Thus, I tried to keep the antenea in sight, while avoiding the slime trail (because I also read I'm suppose to look out for road hazards). I think the slug pulled off the road because I lost "contact" with it. Anyway, I have reminded myself not to get discouraged as I am working on building up distance at present, not speed. (Although I think I will start my loop in the opposite direction next time so I can catch the slug at the beginning of my walk, rather than at the end when I'm tiring.)
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :snail: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Thanks for the laugh!!

Today was an easy day; XT with the bike and weights. I love Fridays! Hope everyone has a great weekend; good luck to all those racing!

Happy training!

Just looked up Drew Henson, and he is on the Vikings roster now. Hmmm, I didn't remember that happening. Man, he's just raking in the money for doing nothing...

lol SkyDave - You get like $80K just fo rbeing a practice dummy for the Lions.

Quick training question. Assuming I feel OK, is it alright to walk for 20 to 25 minutes twice a day if I have time. I'm just starting out and do not want to overly push things, but at present my walks are closer to pedestrian pace rather than Boston Marathon qualifying (or even "beat the sweeper") pace. Thanks in advance for any (semi-constructive) input.

So long as you feel alright I say go for it!

That said, if you start to get stiff, feel any real pain or just feel tired all the time, you're probably overdoing it and should ramp it down a bit. For right now, do what feels right for your body and prepare it for when you start your training plan.
Just my .02!

:scared1: I can see I better get on this thread more often or I'll miss lots of conversation.

I got in an excellent 60 minute walk this afternoon. After the walk, my friend talked me into stopping over for a margarita to 'hydrate' ourselves. Well ... of course I had to graciously accept her offer, nummy!

Ooops ... just heard we are under a tornado watch ... ta ta for now!

Now there is a lady who knows how to kick back after a good walk. I prefer a Miller lite myself.:yay:

Bill, Dude, you are a natural for the "YARC"!!

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Waking up and fueling up for my Saturday LR. This is my favorite part of the week. Get up early, have a nice run, and don't have to worry about getting into work either. Doesn't get any better. I don't have a huge LR planned since I already did 8+ miles on Wednesday. I'm planning on another 7-8 miles today. I want to gradually build to that 30 miles/week.

Yesterday after work I did a little over 5 miles in 46:53 min/9:11 mpm pace. It was humid, but I guess I can't complain to all you living in the South.

Christa- are you up? Did you have a show last night, or is tonight the opening?

Colleen- Have a great race today. I'm thinking of you. I can't wait to hear how your half marathon goes!

Krista and NEBill- I heard a rumor the other day that Bill Cowher might go to coach the Patriots after taking a year off. Nooooooooo!!!!! Can't he just come back to the Steelers?!? He can't coach anywhere else.

NEBill- I say listen to your body about the walking 2x/day. As long as you are feeling OK, I would think that would be fine. If it starts to feel like your legs are always tired, or your feet are always tired, then you might want to give yourself a break. I just read what Kevin wrote, and I should say, "yeah, what he said..."

DreamBeliever- Great job on the 60 min walk! WTG! Mmmmmmm, margaritas... yummy!

Anyone else up and online? anyone, anyone... Bueller, Bueller...

Morning Dave/Skywalker, yep I'm up to. I'm headed out to do some intervals, sounds funny a walker doing intervals huh.

Our humidity is here with a vengence, southern Ky this time of year is as humid as a darn rain forest. We are like Florida without a beach.

Help!!! How do I reserve a room for January's fun. When I go to the resorts and try to reserve the little drop down only has 2007, how do I do a 2008. Also I wonder if there is an extra discount for "YARC" membership? Has anyone booked the Swan or Dolfin yet for January?

Luck, speed and strength to everyone racing this weekend.

Good Morning Team!!!

Went to see Pirates last night....have any of you seen it yet? Not sure what I thought....left me a little confused.

Off to DD's soccer tourney today and it is going to be HOT HOT HOT.

Pixie Dust to all my Florida friends. They say TS Barry will hit around Tampa some time today....Be safe!!!!!

Kim--we're headed to see a little Capt. Jack eye candy this evening--Date night woohoo!:cool1: I did hear that you need to stay through the credits to see something--did you stay that long?

DaveWW--DH and I are fans of the Miller Lite as well (must have something to do with living in WI for 4 years!) We'll get along great in Jan. Can't answer the question on room ressies--that reminds me that I need to get on the ball on call MS at DVC to get our room squared away. Good luck with the intervals!

Daveskywalker--you are a running machine! I'm actually jealous that you're getting out this am (guess that means I'm a perfect candidate for the YARC)--DH and I have to split up LR days, so he gets Sat. and I get Sunday. Not a bad deal, I just feel like a slug today!

WEll, like I just posted, no running for me today. But I have a fun day of shopping planned (god help DH!) and then some POTC tonight. HOpe everyone has a great weekend of training/racing!

Good morning everyone. Only got a 20 minute walk in so far today as I slept a little late and had to get DD#2 to horseback riding lessons. Thus, I am currently reporting from my CrackBerry. Today Mr. Bill (that's me) saw no signs of his pal "sluggo". He must read the WISH forums and was afraid of my challenge.

Today's observations lead me to officially nominate myself as a YARC Assistant Deputy Dog Stalker for Adjunct Natural Fertilizer Enforcement. Let me start by saying I love dogs and if I didn't have 4 kids, a job where I work a lot of hours and a wife who wants no part of cleaning up after a dog in addition to the kids and me, I would probably have one. I notice, however, that the early morning dog walkers in my neighborhood are less inclined to utilizer dog fertilizer collection devices than evening dog walkers. I guess they figure there is less chance of being sighted (or cited by me if I get the YARC post). No offense, but if I wanted to be cleaning droppings out of my yard regularly, I'd have my own dog. OK, enough rambling.

*Kevin and Dave Skywalker*-thanks for the advice. I couldn't try it yesterday as after my 4+ hour sauna, I mean happily and proudly attending DD#3's swim meet (I try to convince myself its therapeutic sitting in wooden stands in extra hot and humid conditions for long periods of time) and driving back home, I had partial kid patrol duty. Hopefully I can get another walk in today between DS's soccer game and the rest of my family's church festival.

*poppinpal*-I thought of you this morning while walking. (No, not (just) fantasizing of being back in high school sharing a whirlpool with a finely tuned 16 year old female athlete--I SHOCKED myself back to reality about this one when I recalled that my high school was all male at the time.) Rather, Charlie Daniels singing In America popped up on my Ipod. I have to rethink keeping that one on it.

Hope you all have a great day and let me know if I should post my rambling thoughts elsewhere and not bog down this serious training thread (or just keep them to myself).

Bummer......no we left during the credits as it was absolutley packed so we tried to get out ahead of the crowd.....PM me please and let me know what happened.. Have fun tonight..... I love Cap't Jack but Will looked great in this one!!!

Well the intervals were interesting since I'm not acclimated to the humidity yet. I had to tell myself each one was the last one, then after my cool down 400, I would forgive myself for lying.

Anyway 4 X 400m 220 224 222 234

The last one I was starting to really feel the heat. But I wasn't disapointed since 220 is my best time so not to bad a day. 3 miles total today. Total for the week since tomorrow is rest day, was 24.5 quality miles. Most around 12 to 12:30 mpm.

Bill, what the heck are you talking about serious? I'm on here remember.

Stephinie, after the ToT and the MGM party is over, I will have a cooler of cold ones for anyone who wants a beer before bed that morning. We are at the Swan and a beer by the pool will be for anyone interested.

I emailed my Dreamsunlimited agent Bob Varley and he said he could book my room at the Swan for January then when the discount pricing comes out we can change the rates. If any one is interested I can post his email.

We are staying at the Swan since it's in the Epcot area and way less pricey than the other resorts there. Never stayed there but we are in Oct and I have heard on here that it's real nice.

They have special padded rooms for "YARC" members to.
