Wk of May 27--WISH Running/Walking Club

Hi everybody,

Just dropping in to say hi:wave2: I've been MIA for a few weeks. A case of L&WTO (Life and work took over).
Hope everyone is doing well. I'm gonna try to catch up on the thread tomorrow (a day off! ).

Still no training for me. My surgically repaired foot is healing nicely :) , unfortunately last Sunday I was going down some steps and missed a step and rolled my other ankle. Saw the doc today, when he checked out the "bad" ankle and gave me the good report, then I told him to check the other one and now I have to get it x-rayed. He thinks I may have fractured it. :sad2: I'm not a happy camper. I'm hoping it's just a sprain. I can walk on it fine. It only hurts when he presses on it or if I move it a certain way.
I haven't done any training since late Feb. I'm going bonkers :crazy2:

TiffJ - Just saw the post about DH. How scary. I'm glad he's doing
better!

I'll catch up with everybody soon. Happy training!

Terri

Oh my goodness, what a day! Yesterday afternoon one of the transformers at work blew, we had to evacuate the building and ended up being sent home at 3:45 because the Fire Marshall said that us being there is a fire hazard. Later in the evening, I got a call from one of the supervisors saying that we WOULD work tomorrow (today), BUT the air conditioning would be out and we were allowed to wear shorts. We ended up not only not having air conditioning, but we didn't even have any electric for a couple of hours. Of course, we couldn't go home. They are saying tomorrow we have a 50/50 shot of having air conditioning, so we are all wearing shorts just in case. Of course it was 90 degrees today and it will be the same tomorrow. Joy.

On the training front, I ran 2.5 miles on the treadmill when my knee started hurting. I stopped when it became too much to grit out and ended up taking Hines on a mile walk, so I ended up with 3.5 miles overall. I haven't decided what I'm doing tonight, I may end up calling sweating in my cubicle for 9 hours xt!

Megan--The key word there is BIG!! Your boyfriend sounds like a keeper!!

Karen--Great pictures!!!

Terri--Maybe you should live in a padded room!!! Good luck with your ankles! :wizard:

Dave--We haven't signed up for the marathon yet either. I'm waiting until it's 90% full, I don't know what Stephen's excuse is!

Colleen--HI!!!!! I'll be thinking about you this weekend.

Christa--Good luck with your show tomorrow!! Are you in a bunch of different companies or do you guys just work yourselves to death???

Susie--Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!

Carrie--Have a WICKED weekend! (I mean than in the best way possible ;) )

Mike and Kathy--Glad you had such a great time! Sorry your daughter was so sad to leave. I cry everytime we leave too!

I know I missed people and I apologize, but Stephen is out of town tonight, so I think I'm going to curl up on the couch with Christian Bale.   "Batman Begins" that is. :cloud9:

Terri - Ouch! Sorry about the luck. Pixie dust for your "other" ankle so it is not fractured, and double the order of pixie dust for your "bad" ankle and it heals really fast!
Krista - I would count 9 hrs sweating in a cubicle reason for time and a half....but then again the boss may say they are instituting a company wellness program and that your cubicle is the sauna. Good luck w/o AC at work. I'm glad to hear about the prognosis for your sister. Docs really don't (never say never) ever stent a blockage less that 75% because they are not considered "flow limiting", meaning the heart will get the oxygen-rich blood flow from those arteries that are partially blocked. As for the chances of the blockages going away or getting better...very unlikely (as for the actual chances - ?!?!?). Through diet and lifestyle modification, she can prevent them from getting much worse. They may eventually get worse some day due to genetics, but she can make the right changes today and stave it off for awhile. But she has to be the one that makes those changes, she has to find her catalyst, what workes for her. Getting a membership to Curves as a BDay present is a very generous offer, hopefully she will respond positively to it and finds that small inner voice that says "Yes you can" and turns it into a thunderous roar to spurn her to make those needed changes. Best of luck to her, you, and your family!
Kristi - Good job on the TM 3 miler!
Colleen - Good luck with your Half Marathon this weekend. Hope your able to find child care so you DH can run it too. How was his trip to China?
Karen - Great pics! Great job on the 5 miler!
Christa - WICKED post your higness. Good luck with your run AND your show opener tomorrow!
Susie - Sounds like you had a great trip. Have a great time in Austria!
PatsFanBill - Welcome to the Team! You have a great list of reasons to keep motivated on your journey. Team WISH is with you every step of the way.
Carrie - Have fun this weekend at Wicked...is this the production with Ana Gasteyer from Saturday Night Live (she has an awesome singing voice)?
Jen - Have fun camping this weekend! We were out a couple of weekends ago in our new camper, and we're going out again over Father's Day Weekend! Have you ever camped at Ft. Wilderness?
Leana - Wow...Banff looks awesome...Have a great time!
Renee - What a scare, glad to hear it worked out in the end with your DD!
Stephanie -Oooohhh, he forgot your birthday? I remember, and more importantly my DW does too, when I messed up her B-Day (I thought it was three days ahead of what it was), but she ALSO remembers (and still gives me crud about it) when I mispelled her name.
Megan - Sounds like a great boyfriend to help remind you of your grit and determination with your running. And Doctors can be wimps too. Invite him onto the ice and check him into the boards.
Cam - :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Laurie - How exciting! Congratulations!
Vic - Thanks for the link...now DW wants a lab puppy...added to the border collie/chow mix (Casey) and the golden retriever (Belle, a.k.a. the furry cruise missle). They are sooo adorable though.
Stacey - Great job on the run. New music helps, I recently added a couple of songs by 30 Second to Mars (yah, wierd name, but great music) and put them in early to get me going.
Howard - What a fantastic job you've done and here's to many more races and runs!:thumbsup2 :cool1:
Mike - What a magical and wonderful Birthday your DD had! I am 36, and I still cry and sob when leaving WDW.
Dave - I'm not sure I belong in the YARC...most of my loose screws fell out a long time ago.
Cindy - Great job on your LR! Sounds like a beautiful route.
Dave - Wow, awesome job on getting in 8 miles before work!
Monte - I remember when I was the biggest cousin on my Mom's side. I am the oldest male and was always full time QB when we went out to play football. Now they are getting older, getting married, HAVING babies for crying out loud. That just makes me feel older. When do I put my order in for the walker? I want one with a horn....I plan on being the cranky old guy at the supermarket or mall walking around and muttering about the state of things as they have become.
DreamBeliever - Welcome to the Team! Being from the Chi-Town area, are we gonna see you in August for the Chicago Distance Classic?
Kevin - Strong Work on the run!
SilverSteve - Welcome back, glad to hear the recovery is coming along really well!

I apologize to my Teammates for my absence. Life, Work, Yardwork has taken over this past few days. I have gotten in some training though. I did my very first LR on Saturday - 6 miles at a 3 min run/ 2 min walk pace and felt really good. Tuesday and Wednesday this week was 40 min and 35 min respectively at the same pace. Today is XT - 40 min on the recumbent "Rolling Hills" program.
Happy Training!

Hi, everyone! I just love all these awesome marathon posts, when I am not letting them make me feel like a slacker! ;)
Did 60 minutes on the TM tonight since I couldn't get away from my desk until almost 7:30. UGH! Did 4.0 mph because I wanted to read but I started the incline at 3.0 and worked it up to 5.0. The machine says I burned 499 calories. I only took in 1194 today, so hopefully, will soon start seeing significant progress on the scale again.
Hugs, all! Miss you bunches. So glad to know I'll see some at CDC, some at ToT and hopefully, most of the team at marathon weekend '08 (Dave -- this means you, buddy! )

Just a quick post, since it is getting late now. I will catch up on everyone later when I get a chance.

Not much has happened training wise because Lynnda and the kids felt that I needed to share in the experience of not feeling good since I left town for most of it. So from Tuesday on, I have been fighting some sort of stomach bug. Things finally are looking better and hopefully everything will get straightened out by this weekend.

Lynnda also has the added fun since my parents are coming in today. I figure they are here to see the grandkids and if we are around or not doesn't really matter. :lmao:

Bill

Bill - Hope eveyone's well soon! Maybe having the 'rents around iwll let you and lynnda get a little extra rest.:wizard:

Kristi - Way to go! You reminded me why I really need to get back on the pavemnet. I could use some of those endorphins too!

Dave - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: You HAVE to come!!

COlleen - Glad dh is home safe and sound! Good luck this weekend!!

Krista - Yikes! I hope you're takin gin lots of liquids when you're in that heat! Yes, I would definitely count that as XT!

Terri - :grouphug: :wizard: You deserve a brak (and not one of your bones)! I'm glad teh bad foot is doing well. Hopefully the good foot will heal quickly! We miss seeing you!!!!

Andrew - Still training with yard work happening? :worship: I am such a whimp.

We have a new receptionist. Hired her even if she does spend a lot of time in Orlando, but is not a Disney fan. (I think that goes huge for m ebeing non-discriminatory. ;) ) Anyway, I said something about being lazy and she said, "You run marathons. No way could you be lazy!" :lmao: WHIle I felt good inside, I doid have to inform her that I am teh world's laziest marathon runner. Proven by my lack of work outs this week. I did pack clothes fro CHicago, though, so hopefully, I will use them.

I got new lifts from the DO again Wednesday, though. Seems as if the new x-ray shows a 3/4" leg diff. :scared1: Lifts can't go that high or keeping my shoes on will be an issue, but the new one is about 50% bigger than the first one and it's like starting over again. :( He thinks this should be enough, though. Good, because Scott putting little pieces of wood on the heels of my shoes does not seem like a great option. :p On the bright side, booty is no longer tender to the touch adn pain has been getting better. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I'll be diving back into CDC trainign soon!

Morning all! TGIF! Gonna go to the gym in a few and try to get 4 miles in. It will only be the 2nd time I've run this week. I'm getting restless!

Here's a cute story for ya'll. Last night after going to the pool with the kiddos, DD and I were laying on the couch watching TV. She starts poking at my belly, and asks "Mommy, is there a baby in your tummy?" I said, "Well, no, not that I know of." She says "Well, why is your tummy so big, then?":lmao: Out of the mouths babes.....guess I need to spend a little more time at the gym!:rotfl2:

On that note--it's off to find my wo clothes! Have a great day all!

Hey Dave, I am running our hometown half marathon. Here is the link.
http://www.charitychase.com/
Have an awesome race this weekend!! I am sure you're glad to have DH home again:hug:

Carrie - You're not lazy and I could probably give you a run for your money (no pun intended) for the world's laziest marathon runner award:confused3 Glad the booty is improving.

Cam - Great TM workout:woohoo: !!

Krista - Holy hotness!! That's just brutal and not right:surfweb: . Definitely counts as cross-training.

Terri - When it rains, it pours:sad1: . I hope the ankle is not fractured and you're good to go in no time.

Karen - Great pics:banana: .

Christa - Break a leg (in show speak of course)!! Have an awesome time at the opening and best of luck on the LR.

4 miles TM and yoga this morning. 10 mile taper LR in the a.m. tomorrow.

Best of luck to all training and racing this weekend:cheer2:

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I couldn't log in from home this morning - so now I need to be quick before starting work. No training last night, I volunteered at the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge 3.5 mile race. Kind of odd to have a race on a Thursday evening, but it had 10,400 runners at it. I got to be a finish line spotter which was a lot of fun. My job was to watch for the 3rd place woman finisher, write down her time and bib number, and escort her to the press tent. It was the first time I got to see the finish of a race, and it was a blast. Get this, holding the finish line tape was Grete Waitz! That was way cool.

Let me say, you guys are all too kind sending me good WISHes that I can make it to Disney for the full in January. I really hope I can, and I want to take part in more of the team activities (such as the team dinner) this time around. I hope it works out. We'll just have to see.

NEpatsfan/Bill- Welcome to the team! Always good to have another member.

Susie- Happy Birthday!!! Happy 50th!!! :cheer2:

Karen- Great photos!

Colleen- Good luck with the half marathon tomorrow. Have fun!!! Cool pic of DH - He's #54, right? You go girl, and I'll be rooting for you for your sub 2:10 half! Glad your hubby's back from China.

Kristi- Oh I'm so glad you had a good run. You were due. Good for you!

Christa- I saw you went running with your DDs on the track yesterday. How'd they like it? Did you ever do that butterfly run with them? Good luck on the show this weekend.

Terri- Glad to hear your foot is healing up nicely. WISHing you the best in your healing.

Hello Krista :wave2:- So you have to go into work, AND you can't wear shorts? What kind of crazy rule is that? You'll have to wear a skirt or something to stay cool. Sorry to hear your knee started hurting again on your TM run yesterday. Here's sending some cool breezes over your way to your cubicle. So I'm following your plan too about the full marathon. I'm going to wait until it gets about 90% full, and then make a decision about what I'm going to do. Did Steve end up signing up for the fall marathon he was thinking about? Was it the Akron marathon? Or was it the Air Force marathon? As far as sweating in your cubicle goes, don't forget to drink - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate... ;) How's your sister doing?

Andrew- Nice job getting your training in - nice job on the 6 mile LR.

Cam- no way are you a slacker. Don't even think it, no way, no how. I'm so impressed that you still get in 60 min of training after working 'till 7:30p. You're awesome!!! Yes, I hope to see you in January again too!

Bill- Sorry to hear you caught the bug. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Carrie- Thanks, I really hope I'll be there in January. If not, I don't think I can even read the posts of the team's activities. Have a great/Wicked trip to Chicago, and good luck getting back into the training.

Stephanie- Hope you had a good 4 miler at the gym. Too funny about your DD's tummy comment.

Sara- It's great to see you posting again. Are you in taper mode for Grandma's now? I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Have a good day all! I'm sure I'll be back!

Last night I opted to run up and down McHugh Bluff a few times for hill training. Here are a couple of pictures I found:
McHugh+Bluff.jpg
200px-Downtown_Calgary_2.jpg

I didn't download my Garmin data last night but I think you gain about 100 ft in about 0.3 miles or so. The picture on the left shows the pathway you run up, the picture on the right give you an idea of the view from the top. I basically started at the bridge that you can see in the bottom right hand corner, then wall the way up.

I parked the car, ran on flat ground for about 10 min till I hit the hill, then went up and down it three times, then ran back to the car. I got my 4.5 miles in 53:02. The weather was really nice and warm, and it felt good to work hard. Legs are actually feeling not too bad today, only my arms have a bit of residual stiffness in them from Wednesday's weight routine. I think Thursday will now become my hills day because I really enjoyed the challenge.

There were a ton of people out on the pathways - lots of rollerbladers, a dog obedience class, a bikini boot camp group. The oddest thing I saw was a couple wearing surgical masks while they were out for their stroll. I wonder if they were worried about pollution?

Colleen - It is too bad you won't be making it for the Calgary half this year. It would have been nice to meet. Will you be at WDW in January?
Susie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I think you should definitely be proud of your accomplishments over the last year, and your attitude is wonderful. Undertaking a half marathon is an impressive feat. I'm glad you had a great trip to Italy, and have a good time in Austria!! Wow - jet setter!
Christa - Break a leg tonight!
Karen - Loved your photos.
Megan - Sure - send some guys from Boston my way!
Kristi - Way to go on getting your walk/run in and having it feel so great!
Terri - :wizard: for both ankles!!! :grouphug:
Krista - Hope you are doing OK today. Still in a sauna?
Andrew - Glad to hear your training is going well, despite L/W/YTO.
Cam - Fingers crossed for you on the scale budge. Just when I think I am nearly across the first 10 lbs threshold it ceases to budge.
Bill - Hope you and the family feel better soon. Good luck with the parents this weekend!
Carrie - Fingers crossed for your new lifts. 3/4"??? Glad to hear the booty is feeling better though.
Stephanie - Your daughter!! :rotfl2:
Sara - Good luck with the taper!
Dave - Sounds like volunteering was a lot of fun.

I raced on Sunday and they still haven't posted the results online yet....can't update my siggie until they do! Have a good Friday everyone!

Morning all!!

Krista/Dave-- Well, it's a new car for me anyways. :teeth: My old girl was on her last legs (337K miles...) so it was time. It's so weird to own something "new" (to me..... after 48 payments...)

Stacey-- 5K and then the Half, totally doable. Just don't try for a sub-20:00 in the 5K and you'll be fine.

Kim-- I'm running the full at Waterfront. I think the course for the half is great, but that whole out and back section out to Thompson park during the full looks looooong. I've wanted to do this one for a while, so I'm looking forward to it.

Bill-- :welcome: Congrats on your recovery!! :thumbsup2

Susie-- Just back from Italy and now off to Austria?? Want to change lives??

Carrie-- Have a great trip!!!

Wednesday night's run was a complete stonker. 4.05 miles in 40:30, so 10:00/mile. The heat forced me to stop short of the five mile mark, which cheesed me off more than a little, but better safe than sorry.

Yesterday night was 3 miles in 28:38, or 9:36/mile. Again with the heat...

I need to really, really start getting up early on these hot days and run in the morning. I think I'll HAVE to do that with my LR tomorrow, or else I just don't see that happening. I'm getting more than a little concerned about my 5K in three weeks. My goal was to run it somewhere in the 25-26 minute range AND run the whole thing.... and I guess we'll see. It SHOULD be doable on race day. The race starts at 10am, so it could be warmer than usual but I suppose I'll just have to give it a shot.

This weekend is trip-planning palooza for me :teeth: :teeth: We're changing our cruise trip plans (mainly dropping the WDW post-cruise stay, but going to MVMCP   on the 20th), I need to firm up marathon trip plans, plans for Toronto in three weeks, book my hotel for Waterfront and see what I can come up with for a July weekend in WDW to see Bjorn Again. Luckily, the weather is going to be awful here this weekend. Good for trip planning, stinks for the 8-miler.

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Greetings all -

I have no trainnig to report as the electricity went out yet again, so our alarms didn't go off and we slept until 5:45. :headache:

Cindy - What?? Electrodes? :scared: NO WAY could I do that!

Susie - Wow, you world traveller! Happy happy birthday! :bday:

Karen - Great pictures! :thumbsup2

Kristi - OMG you always make me laugh! :rotfl: Oh I'm so glad you didn't hate it! I don't know why we do these things to ourselves. We put off exercising then when we finally do it, we remember that hey, we LIKE it! And thanks, now that Aerosmith song is stuck in my head.

Terri - Ouch! Major :wizard:.

Krista - Geez, what a day you had! T.G.I.F eh?

Cam - I can't believe you work until 7:30 THEN train. By 7:30pm I'm starting to think about going to bed.

Bill - Ohhh, I hope you feel better today. Just in time for the grandparent's arrival. Yeah, they probably won't notice if you're not around. Heck, Charlie's parents never even notice if I'm in the same room!

Carrie - :wizard: that your booty continues to be pain free.

Stephanie - Oh from a young 'um thats cute! :goodvibes But my MIL once saw Charlie and I hugging and she was looking at us and smiled and when we saw her she said "You know, you two can't get close because your bellys are too big." Isn't she sweet?? :headache:

Dave - We WANT you there in January. What can we do that will help make it happen??? :confused3

Hey, there's Kevin! :yay:

Good morning WISH Warriors, and a special greeting to the other social misfits who are fellow members of "YARC".

I went out to enjoy an easy day work out, so since the humididy was nice and muggy, I thought I'd do my course with the nice big hill the goes up to the top of WKU. I did make it an easy 4.5 miler though by going a min per mile slower than PR pace for that route. It was a pleasent hour walk and I felt very relaxed at the end.

Am I the only one who wakes up excited to get out on the road and get my exercise done. How silly is it that the highlight of the day is sweating in the heat while scampering up a long hill.

Tell yourself today how happy and blessed you are and mean it.

Dave:hippie:

Legs are actually feeling not too bad today, only my arms have a bit of residual stiffness in them from Wednesday's weight routine.

I think I spoke too soon. I just stood up. My booty hurts. Does that mean if I keep this up I'll make it smaller?

Dave - We WANT you there in January. What can we do that will help make it happen??? :confused3
Oh, you're very kind Judy. Hmmmmm, provide babysitting so DW and I can go have an adult weekend and the DDs don't miss school? Seriously, I'm just in a holding pattern right now until the deadline draws nearer. Then I'll sit down and talk with DW and come up with a plan. I want to be there too.

Good morning team!!!!!

Poppinspal I love the hockey bashing but have to be cheering for the Sens....Go Sens Go....or at least show up for a game.....:lmao:

Carrie You hired someone that isn't a disney fan????:confused3

Leana Wow nice area for a run

Kevin Look forward to seeing you there......Wow looks like you are in TO more then I am and I live about 45 mins away.

Dave So have you booked yet???:rolleyes1

Sorry to all I missed, they just fired a girl here at the office and all kinds of chatter going on outside my office so I better go join in or they will think I am surfing the internet....oh wait I am:surfweb:

I will be starting my 1/2 training on Sunday so will start to have something to report.

Kim

Christa - WICKED post your higness. Good luck with your run AND your show opener tomorrow!

Andrew - :lmao: :lmao: LOVE the "Your higness" Why does my family not realize that I am royality? The princess: princess: do call me the "Evil Queen" though...Hope your life gets a little easier! WTG on the training though...glad you are back!

Dave (windwalker) -
Am I the only one who wakes up excited to get out on the road and get my exercise done. How silly is it that the highlight of the day is sweating in the heat while scampering up a long hill.
And this is what makes you perfect for the YARC! I am right there with you though! It is so easy to get up at 0500 to get my LR in...but other days...not so much.:confused3

And I just want to thank Kim for my nomination into the YARC...and all the runs that got me there...and all the cold soaks after the runs..and Judy who is the fearless leader...and.....:rotfl:

Karen - Love the pics! You guys are GLOW'N in your WISH shirts. WTG on the race!:cool1:

Terri - lots of :wizard: :wizard: for your ankle(s)

Christa--Good luck with your show tomorrow!! Are you in a bunch of different companies or do you guys just work yourselves to death???
Krista - Yes to both...I do shows for a company called Narroway Productions...that is the company I work with...but every Sunday, I do a children's show for our Church called Big Mama's Attic...so every week I have to learn around a 10 page script for that...but I LOVE IT! I WISH I could really make a living acting/singing...but I am an Acter/Counselor:) Hope you had fun with Christian Bale last night.;) And sweating is xtraining!!!!:scared1:

Mike and Kathy - Glad you guys had such a great time! I understand crying when leaving WDW...DH and I always cry really loud as we are leaving the WDW grounds....:sad1:

Bill - Hope you feel better!:wizard:

Cam - You are so AWESOME! Bree and I talked about how cool you are today while we were running....

Stephanie - LOVE the story! I understand! Remember, it was my DDprincess: who told me I had a big butt in my bike shorts....

Christa- I saw you went running with your DDs on the track yesterday. How'd they like it? Did you ever do that butterfly run with them? Good luck on the show this weekend.
Dave (SKYwalker) - I ran and they played with dolls and stuffed animals...around a month ago, I did the butterfly run with them and they loved it. But they just wanted to "play" yesterday.

Leana - WOW! That is some Hill work! And so beautiful!

Kevin - WTG on the run! Good luck with the planning and 8 miler!

Oh, you're very kind Judy. Hmmmmm, provide babysitting so DW and I can go have an adult weekend and the DDs don't miss school?
Yeah Dave! Hey Judy, Can you babysit for me too? DDs missing school is always an issue!:lmao: :lmao:

My training - I ran 14 today....I started at 0600 and did a 6.5 loop. Bree started around 0645 at the same place to do a 7.5 mile loop. I finished my 6.5 then started the 7.5 to meet up with Bree. It took me about 4 miles to catch her. So we did the last 3 together. I know I was running btwn a 8:30 and 9 MPM until I met up with Bree...then I don't know. I was tired b/c we rehearsed until midnight!

OK! I think I am caught up..sorry if I missed someone!
Thanks for the :wizard: :wizard: for tonights show!:cool2:

FYI-- From the Walt Disney World Marathon site...

The Half Marathon has reached capacity!!!

I hope everyone got in....

OMG! Half reached capacity darn quick!

Kevin - The heat this weke has been killer. Standing in 18" of water tuning screws has been plenty work out for me. What's your 5K? BTW, some of my PTs knew you.

Keep forgetting: Have any of you hockey fans seen the VS commercial where the guy is in the locker room and can't get into, what I'm assuming is, a cold tub??? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We are atheletes!!!!!!:goodvibes

Dave, Christa - There's only one problem with your plan. I'll be in Florida too! :)

OK we really need to give this some thought.
