Wk of May 27--WISH Running/Walking Club

Ok Who else thinks they have enough screws loose to be considered for membership?
:wave2:

Dave - thanks for thinking of me. No rest for me. No exercise either. :sad2: I am in crazy-prep mode for a yard sale Saturday. Fingers crossed I get rid of alot of 'stuff' and make some $$$ too!

eta: can someone tell me where to find the ToT clippie?

Yard sale is a dirty word in my house. The one and only time my dear lady had one, (while I was at work), she sold the following things of mine::eek:

Solid maple, English Dart board cabinet, with horse hair dart board and three sets of custom made matched darts.......$5.00

2 complete sets of Auqa Lung brand snorkeling equipment: $3.00 per set.

This is getting painful to remember so I'll quit there, I think the fact that they were gifts from my first wife might have had something to do with the sales.

Of course you can join our club Kristi. You have all the requirements. You run around wearing signal yellow shirts and have been known to laugh way to much.

Dave:hippie:

Vic we can't sacrifice virgins anymore. They have a union now:
:lmao:

Good morning team!!!!

I would really like to be part of the You ain't right club.....but if you ask most of my friends anyone who travels any type of distance not in a motorized vehicle "ain't right":thumbsup2

Poppinspal Pixie Dust for your ankle and toe:wizard:

Cindylou Thank you for the plan

Christa Wow busy weekend

Jackie Hope your feeling better soon....I add one also:mickeybar what the heck make it 2:mickeybar

Kevin Are you doing the 1/2 or the full???? Look for me and DH we are going to wear our WISH shirts. Also thank you for the advise

Laurie Good luck this weekend at the rink. Definately have to meet up over the weekend

Karen Thank you for the input and advise...I am feeling it is doable now

Howard WOW You Rock:worship: :worship: Congrats on all your success

Mike Glad you had fun at WDW...

Gotta get ready for work, have a great day all.

Kim

Good luck finding one!

Come to think of it, we do have a number of never been married members so I guess we can assume either they would qualify or are hell-bound heathens! ;) Just kidding!!
I guess this is one time I am glad that I have been married twice, and therefore not sacrifce-worthy! :rotfl2:
I am extra hell-bound though. Chad was living with me while I was still technically married to butthead (for lack of a dis-friendly term). I did not meet Chad until after I filed for divorce & kicked the ex out though - I swear! I am such a heathen! :rotfl2:

Dave - sorry about your bad yard sale experience! And yes, things from the first spouse do need to go - no matter what they are. (you probably should have gotten more money for your items though!) Chad was also married before, so unfortunately we are well-versed in this sort of thing. ;-)

Cam - :lmao:

Howard - You rock!!!! Congrats on all the races!!!

Laurie - That is so cool! Playing at a hockey championship in Canada is too cool!!! Good luck!!!:wizard: :cheer2:

Just finished my 5th night of working on the pool. I think I'm done. Poor dh has 1 night to go. I really need to get a work out in, though.

Tomorrow, we leave for a quick trip to Chicago to see WIcked!!! :woohoo: Beeing teh non-city folk we are, that likely mens no run Saturday. Our hotel shoudl have a fitness facility, though. So, many a trip on teh elyptical. As opposed to a trip on th TM. Those are bad. :rolleyes1

OK, time to work. :(

Morning team!

Dave(skywalker)--you could always join DH and I at the Akron Marathon in Sept--doesn't cool aunt live close by???? But we're all still holding out that you'll be with us in Jan! Thanks on complimenting the sub-9s--we'll see how I do on LR this weekend. I'm hoping that I can transfer my TM workout speed to the road. DH and I start our 18 week marathon training next week, and I'd really like to keep up with the sub-9s

DaveWW--me, me--Let me in too!!! Is there hazing involved????:lmao:

Kristi--good luck with the yard sale! Hope you make big bucks!

Mike(optimator)--that trip sounds like fun! Glad your DD had agreat bday--can't say the same for mine:rolleyes: I suppose for me to geta surprise bday trip DH would actually have to remember my bday--that's right guys, he forgot! But he's been sucking up ever since!

Well, we bought our return tickets from Orlando for ToT--Airtran had a great one-way fare--now we just need to find tickets to Orlando. Hey, anyone going to MNSSHP on Sunday night? Looks like you can get the advance sales discount price for Sunday and not Friday; we're all about giving Mickey our $$$, but saving every little bit helps us go back the next time!

No training to report from me today--I'm babysitting into the afternoon, and then DD has tennis camp. Have agreat day all!

Stephanie! We're doing SUnday night MNSSHP!!!!! HOpefully, I will have gotten over your dh missing your b-day by then, or he may not want to attend to many more DIS functions. ;)

Laurie-Have fun at your hockey tournament. You're making me want to find a league to play in and to take another trip to Toronto. (I loved my visit to Toronto, it was so great.) When I went to Nationals with my college hockey team the tournament was in Atlanta, talk about random place for hockey.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes on my ankle and toe. The toe seems to only bother me when I'm wearing flip flops(which I knew would be the case) so I'm not wearing them. The ankle is a different story. I ran/walked 2 miles this morning in 22 minutes. The bad news is my ankle still hurts, the good news is it's getting easier to run with.

I thought I'd share this story because maybe others will find a little motivation or something of that sort in it. My bf and I were in the car last night and we passed a girl running who was wearing shorter running shorts. My bf asked me why I didn't wear those instead of wearing compression shorts under my shorts, he thought that would cure my issue. He didn't realize the only reason my shorts ridding up bothered me was because of chub rub as some would call it. So I explained to him that I was over weight and so I'd still have a problem with that because the shorts didn't cover enough of the leg. After gently giving me a lecture on self esteem and the fact that I'm already back to what I weighed when we met he said something that really helped... he told me that I should remember that I"m out there every day working out and that's more then most people can say. He went on to remind me that I was training for a race which even fewer people would do. So he told me I should stop being so hard on how I look and to remember at I'm out there accomplishing something. Thought I'd share because I'm sure I"m not the only one whose ever needed this reminder.

Off to get a shot and ask my doctor about this ankle. Catch you all later.

Megan

Hey all... no training to report for yesterday since I was packed with meetings and stuff. I am so exausted. I plan to get something in today, don't know when tho. This weekend we are going camping, so I have to get the camper wiped down and packed. First one of the season since we have been so busy and I haven't even had time to prepare. UGHHHH....

Dave - Oh the current stress is a totally new one. It occurs at work and home since I work with family and involves some illegal stuff happening to my parents by my aunt. I can't talk about it now, but it is very disheartening and upsetting for everyone. I swear, one day I will write a best seller on my life because it is one big soap opera!!!

Kristi - GOOD LUCK on the sale. We are doing one in July, the town is doing a town wide one so we should get decent traffic.

Howard - It's great to see you on the boards again. You have really done a lot in the few years you have been running. CONGRATS! Is school done yet or are you going all summer also?

OK, work calls. Type atcha later!

Megan -- what a sweetie! Surely a keeper!
Laurie -- Good luck this weekend. What an awesome opportunity -- well-earned, of course!
Judy -- I hope you are finding that being a human pincushion at least yielded some good results.
Vic and Dave -- I think I definitely qualify. Ask Howard! ;)
Mike -- so glad your DD had an awesome birthday. Great job getting out there even while you were on vacation. Oh, and I can sympathize-- I cry every time I am heading away from WDW toward MCO, too. :sad1:
Carrie -- I'd definitely think the poolwork counts as cross-training. Have a "WICKED" awesome time in Chicago! Andrew and I saw the play 2 summers ago and we still talk about it and want to see it again.

I know I missed many, many people. Sorry! Sending hugs to all! :grouphug: and pixiedust:

Wow....Thursday already...! I can't wait for the weekend to get here. It is my SIL's birthday on Saturday and we are driving out to Banff (great resort town in the Rockies) for afternoon tea at the Fairmont to celebrate. And the weather this weekend is supposed to be really nice.

008_lrg.jpg

Last night I got in 45 min of weight training. Tonight I have another 4.5 miles scheduled. I think I'm going to run up and down some hills in my neighborhood.

Vic - What adorable puppies! I love the labbycam.
Jackie - Hope you are feeling better soon and can fight it off before your trip to WDW.
Laurie - What a great accomplishment for your hockey team. Have a great time in Toronto!
Stacey - If you take things slowly and don't try to shoot for a PR on your 5K the day before I think you could do both (not ever having tried this before though...) I ran the 5K and the 15K back to back and I didn't feel as though the 5K had worn me out. I was just sure to not try to go out too fast. I've considered the 5K as well, but that plus the Goofy seems, well just way too goofy. Although it would be nice to get as many medals from Disney as I can!
Karen - I'm sure yard work qualifies as XT. Hope those allergies feel better!
Howard - What an amazing accomplishment, it is such an inspiration. Also a great PR on your 5K. I'd be happy to get below 30 min. My PR is 30:28 - crazily enough from the first 5K I ever ran... I was carrying a little less weight back then though...
Mike - What a wonderful trip for your DD! And what great airfare too - less than $30??? I miss living in the US and having access to all those great SW fares! Congrats on getting your run in while on holiday too.
Dave - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that we'll be seeing you in January!
Kristi - Good luck with your yard sale!
WWDave - Sorry to hear that yard sale is a dirty word in your house. It sounds like some people got some really good deals...
Carrie - Have a great trip to Chicago! I haven't seen the musical but I've heard it is really good. Did read the book though...
Stephanie - Good luck with your 18 week plan! Oh no, hubby forgot your birthday? Glad he is trying to make up for it now!
Stephanie and Carrie - We are doing Thursday MNSSHP. At the time I thought we would be flying out on Sunday, but now we are leaving Monday instead. Unfortunately no discount for Thursday night...sigh...
Megan - Take care of that ankle of yours, hope it feels better soon. Good luck at the doctor. And what a sweet BF! Where can I find one of those?
Jen - :wizard: for all the stress you are under now.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Hi all!

What a run today! I was doing a 5 miler; a simple out and back. The way out felt great; I did my first mile in 9:30 and was at the halfway mark at 23:30 when my cell phone rang. My DD had gone out running and gotten sick -- cramped up; felt like she was going to throw up. So there I am literally as far away from the car as possible with a panicked teenager on the line. I got her to lie down and had DS get her a cool washclothe and some water to drink. Being a good mom, I started to run back to the car. Not being Mrs Incredible, I was unable to keep up the pace I set back with (panic, anyone?) and ended up running/walking. (I figured that I'd adopt the strategy of all those people who beat me in 5Ks by sprinting and walking while I just kept up a steady pace.) I made some calls home during the walking to make sure she was feeling better (she was) and finally made it back to the car and home. I found out she had gone out without eating or drinking anything this morning; this after we spent the day yesterday in the sun at a friend's pool. We've gotten her refueled and feeling better and hopefully she's learned something here. I guess all's well that ends well.

Howard - I'm impressed! That's quite a resume you've built up!
Mike - Sounds like you had a great WDW trip!
Dave - Going for a PR in the heat and humidity?!? Is this why you're a charter member of the you ain't right club?
Carrie - Enjoy Chicago and Wicked! I've seen it twice on Broadway and love it!
Megan - Hope your toe and ankle continue to improve!
Leana - Banff looks wonderful (and cool!) Have fun!

Happy training, all!
Renee

Renee - -what a scary time for you. I am glad the problem was easily diagnosed and resolved. Poor kid -- she probably thought she was doing something so good and healthy for her. hopefully, she didn't get turned off of running. for Mom --I'm sure your heart rate is just back to normal. ;)

Good morning fellow You Ain't Right members. :upsidedow

This morning I hopped on the TM, if for no other reason than because I watched High Society. Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly. Does it get any better than that? I think not. :goodvibes

Anyway, I did 3 miles at a "just in front of the sweepers" pace. Once in a while, sometimes, it's nice to just get on and walk and get lost in a movie, and not worry about going faster and pushing harder.

Cam will refresh every 60 seconds and be on periodically during the day
OMG I just about spit out my granola bar when I read that! OMG! HA HA HA HA! :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Karen - Sorry about the allergies but really glad to see you here two days in a row!

Howard - WOW! :worship: You have done so many events, you're like a professional! Maybe we can get you a sponsor, like Nike or someone. :thumbsup2

MikeOptimator - I'm so touched that you thought of me as you passed my future place of employment. I love the FW cabins. Aren't they cool?

Stacey - I agree doing the 5K then the Half is totally do-able. Now that I think about it, I just might do that myself... Let me look into this. :rolleyes1

Dave - I started having tinnitus last summer. It never really bothered me but the last few months it has gotten much louder, especially on the left. I had my physical and spoke to my GP about it and she sent me to an ENT who gave me a multitude of tests for hearing and balance and then sent me to an MRI. Apparently there is nothing physically or medically wrong. Which is almost the bad news. I kinda wish they had found something. So we are trying some alternative therapies. Dr Cam started me on vitamin C, which worked for her. The ENT suggested I try acupuncture. I'm also considering B12 shots since I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years and it often happens that we don't get enough B12, which is also a possible cause of the tinnitus. Anyway, to answer your question, I have only had one session so far. I had needles in my feet, legs, arms and hands, and he wanted to do them in and behind my ears, but I just couldn't do that part. I have to go back Tuesday night - this time taking Charlie for moral support - so he can do the entire treatment. The doctor was very honest and told me if we don't see any improvement in four sessions then we can pretty much figure this won't help. When I woke up the next morning, though, I actually didn't have any ringing at all for about half an hour. I'm staying open minded and hopeful. I'm sorry you have it too. It's very annoying sometimes.

Kristi - I knew I really liked you for a reason. :yay: Now I have lots of reasons.

Stephanie - Where's that Whack-A-Husband smilie?!?!

Megan
- :thumbsup2 to your DH. He's a total doll!

Carrie - I hope you guys have a fabulous time! :yay:

Leana - Oh! Oh! I have always wanted to go to Banff. :) Pictures please!

Megan - Your dh is absolutely right! And many of us do need that reminder. Then again, there are some of us who see all this effort as a license to eat. :rolleyes1 Yeah, I'm still working o that. At least I am putting my steps in, miost of the time, when I'm not injured.

Jen - So, did they decvide on school?

Renee - OMG! How scary! I hope dd has learned and you won't have to deal with that again. Glad she's ok! Quite the cardio for you. :scared1:

Renee, glad DD is feeling better! I really need to watch my kids when they play outside with friends or are at the pool, because they do forget to drink water.

Sara, great time on your last 20 miler before Grandma's!

Leana, good luck in the Calgary half next month, we won't be making it into Alberta this year with our annual summer trip to Canada. I will miss that mountain air!

Megan, wow, that is great support you have! We all need those little reminders from time to time!

Kristi, you were outside without sunscreen? Ouch! My skin hurts just thinking about getting a sunburn. I hope you are feeling better. I think the older I get the more I feel the heat and sun! I always run with a running hat and sunglasses.

Kim, congrats for signing up!

Hey Cam and Howard!:wave2:

Jen, hope the girls are doing well!

Hi Lynnda, sounds like you have a little tough time with Timmy. I hope he is feeling better and you are getting some rest!

Dave Windwalker, ugg, on the dartboard!

Dave Skywalker, your miles you are putting in are so impressive, Mike is right, you really need to find a way to make it to Disney, it won't be the same without you!:)

Stacey, yes, go for both races.

Karen, ah, allergies. DS has always had to a battle with pollen and then now DD8 has developed some, her eyes have been red and watery for weeks.

Carrie! Have you posted a report on the bridge run yet? I need to go look for it!

Hi Krista and Steve! :wave2:

I am in taper mode for my half marathon this weekend. I will head out and get my last 3 miler in today. Our course is really hilly and it will be 70 degrees at 7:00 a.m. race start! I am really hoping for under 2:10. But we will see!

Colleen

Last night, I got the bright idea to have my son drive me 4 miles away from my house, and I would walk/run home, you know, to change up my route and all...well, about .5 mile home, I could feel a blister starting, but, um, I didn't have ANYTHING with me, no phone, no bandaids, no water, no nothin! So, I sucked it up and made it home, and now have a HUGE blister, just under my toes, from big toe to ring toe, it's about the size of a half dollar. Anyone have any advice on pain relief? I soaked it for awhile last night, and loaded it up with Neo, but it's still throbbing...and forget about walking right now, I'm doing a cute little limp (ok, not so cute, but?)

At the suggestion of chimera/Mel, who I understand is the real boss until Big Vic pulled an Alexander Haig and took control, I am posting to give some background on me and why I have requested entrance onto the WISH Team. (For those who have read some of my other posts and threads, not much new to report as of now (except I have settled on Brooks Beast running shoes and so far they are great), but tomorrow, June 1, feels like its the day big changes are going to start for good.) I believe that most of the same things listed below would also apply to admission into the You Ain't Right Club (will there be t-shirts and hats for that too?) if the Sargaent at Arms approves. I might even be willing to do some pro bono work negotiating with the virgin's union if that helps me get into YARC.

So here is my background: (1) I am a mid 40s male and have never participated in any distance events; (2) I have had both hips replaced in the past two years (with complications)--thus doc has OKed trying the half marathon, but requires that I walk-no running permitted; (3) I need to lose 100+ lbs(I have done it before and am starting once again); (4) I have a job with long hours spent primarily sitting at a desk (or in vehicles travelling or at a table in a court room [that's for my job, not with regard to my extracurricular activities]); (5) I am a former "athlete" in high school and college (20+ years ago--football, wrestling, rugby, etc. (i.e., participate in small defined spaces with time limits)); (6) I am registetred for and determined to complete the 2008 Donald; (7) I would love to do the ToT if I didn't think my wife would have me committed (but as she might regardless, I'm still considering giving it a try); (8) I need to do a lot of training and get eating healthy again; (9) I have been posting a little to the training while losing weight thread and have sought motivation/advice via PMs from some WISH/distance event veterans; (10) I have 4 kiddos doing lots of activities that I'd like to be around for for many years to come as well as participate some; (11) I have been reading these boards often for support and advice as I really do not have home support yet (see #7 above), but I am sure it will come at home with me showing my commitment; and (12) most importantly, I did order a WISH hat.

Thank you everyone for your past advice to my questions and in advance for any advice and motivation you provide in the future as I start this new journey "one step" at a time.

Bill

Pat'sBill - ROTFL!!!!

PungoAngie - This goes against the advice of many people, but it was the way I was taught as a young runner. Drain the blister. I usually cut a small slit, so that it will not refill. Mak sure you use steril scissors or needles...) Put Noesporin or other anti-biotic on it and cover. This should help the throbbing. Be absolutely sure to keep it covered and keep antibiotic on it. Infections on your foot are bad.

Bill--what an amazing story that you're getting back out on the road after the hip surgeries. My dad is post-hip replacement, and he's had to give up running (and being that he was fast in his prime, he won't walk. That silly pride getting in the way). Lots of luck with the weight loss adn getting that support from the home team. Please keep posting and keeping us up to date on your training!

Carrie--cool that you are doing the party on Sunday. Have fun in Chicago. My SIL lives in Naperville and just took MIL to see Wicked! Too fun!

Oh, and so ya'll won't be too disappointed in DH for forgetting the bday--no. 1 he was born with the male doofus gene (ladies, it must be part of that Y chromosome) and no.2 he had already bought my present the week before--not that that excuses the forgetting the actual day--he is a great guy, just a doofus sometimes:laughing:
