Wk of May 20--WISH Walking/Running Club

Mel - Congrats on those negative splits!! Is it just me or are you becoming a real speed demon?!

Renee - Congrats on the 6 miles!! I keep saying I need a garmin too... for nothing more than to keep me on pace.

Stephanie - There is nothing worse than needing a bathroom while you are running. I am so sorry!! Sounds like you are shooting for about the same pace I am this year. Also... LOL... about the viagra call!!

Lynne and Matt - I didn't know you guys were doing the ironman 1/2 at WDW!! We drove past a whole bunch of you when we went to EPCOT on Sunday!!

Craig - I am so sorry to hear about the situation with your mother. That just plain sucks. I understand exactly what you mean about not feeling you were quite prepared for WDW in 07. Afterwards I felt like I had done the distance, but had never really put in all the work I should have.

Krista - At least I'm not the only one who does that now everytime we go to WDW... I can't help it!!

Dave - is your DD6 running the 5k's with you? The reason I ask is because my DS6 is adamant about running the 5k at Animal Kingdom this year. I was curious how she handled it. I'll go read the race report too.

Megan - I have to agree with Christa. For me it has alway been about the miles, because time can vary so greatly. As she said though, that's just me, others may feel differently.

Kristi - I would be so upset if I were those runners!!

I am seriously thinking about getting a tattoo myself. I just haven't figured out what I want yet. I'll probably wait until after the full in January though. See if I am happier about my time this year.

Anway, I ran 3 miles on Monday, but couldn't exactly keep tyrack of my time. I forgot my watch at home, so I estimated at about 26min. DS6 ran 1 mile in 20 minutes with a r2/w1 ratio. He is doing really good. This morning we were supposed to go for a run, but Michael woke up throwing up this morning. Obviously Olive Garden didn't settle to well last night. So he stayed home and I went out for 3 miles with DS2 in the jogging stroller. Finished in 25:25!! I am really happy about my times this year. Last year I was struggling to keep up with a 10 min mile!! I guess it's true the more you run the faster you get!! I have another 3 miles on Friday, and 4 on Saturday.

Would any of you mind taking a look at this training plan and letting me know what you think? Last year I literally ran the bare minimum. I ran 3 days a week.... tues, thurs, and sat. And I think the highest my weekly mileage was like 29 miles. And that was after my 23 mile LR. I would really like to increase my weekly mileage with this training plan, and actually put in the full effort that running this race deserves. I would be doing the mileage build up and then the 18 week plan. Let me know what you guys think.

Greetings all.

Please remind me to stay away from other forums. I should never post anywhere but on the WISH board. People aren't so nice in other places. :sad2:

Anyway, yesterday when I made plans to run outside this morning, I forgot it was a rest day. So, today I have nothing to report.:rolleyes1

Krista - I have no idea what I did over on the ToT thread! :confused3 Guess it was just my turn in the barrel. Seems like they are going after Cam now. Poor girl. I think they gave her a virtual wedgie!

Howard - Hey, great to see you! :goodvibes

Paul - Great to see you too! :goodvibes Hows the little guy?

Kristi - OMG, that's terrible. How embarrassing for them. :upsidedow Geez.

Kristi - Remind me to never do that one! DH told me about that. Yikes!

Dana - WOrld's laziest runner checking in here. Runnign 5 days a week looks like adn injury waiting to happen IMO. I would not go more than 4. Supplement w/XT if you must, but that just looks like ay too much. Again, this is coming frm teh world's laziest runner. I never see myself going beyond the MfM full plan.

Andrew - Hope your mom is ok and does not find any new aches after the fact.

Dave - Thanks for commiserating. My only good thought is that I had PT at 6:30 this am, so I did not watch teh game. That would have been too depressing.

Howard - Good to see you!!!! Hope you find mroe tiem to train soon! you need a break!!

Judy - :grouphug: Do we need to form WISH mob elsewhere??? Let em at 'em!!!!

Krista - Oh no!!!! No IT problems. Are you sure you don't want ot give yourself a night off???

Leanna - Congrats on teh great run!!!!!

Melissa, Sunny & Helen - We miss you!!!!!!!!!:sad1:

Hey all... Just a quicky from me. Work and family stress again, so I am in the dumps a bit. Last night I did my Balance Ball challenge ala Cam (cruches and pushups). Tonight I am going to speed walk the track to get back into moving. I would run, but I have a meeting afterwards and I don't want to be a sweaty dripping mess.

Krista - My foot feel GREAT! It was tender on Monday, the day after. But now it is great. I am so happy about that. Oh and I am chicken of tatoos also. I just need some courage (says the cowardly lion!!). The guy that got the 13.1 on his ankle said he was really worried about the pain because he is a wuss, and he said because the tattoo was small that it really didn't hurt much at all.

Paul - Oh PLEASE post a little pic of the tattoo, I would love to see the design!

All this tattoo talk... just plain sillyness. Wonder if Disney has an authorized tattoo parlor??

HonneiBee, yes the WISH forum is wonderful. Some of the other Forums have people who get there jollies by being mean. I used to be a regular on Runners World till it got that way.

Krista, we love HonneiBee and Cam, just playful teasing. I have no dought if someone really ticked them two little fireballs off the butt kicking would be of historic proportions.

Is everyone having as beautiful weather as we are here in Southern Kentucky today. 60 degrees this morning, sunny and a gentle breeze. I walked 4 miles on my hills.

Have a great day y'all.

Dana - The plan looks solid, but don't just jump into it...you will need to build up your mileage b/4 starting to run that many miles...I personally do not run that many times a week even thoug my mileage is around 30 miles a week. 3 - 4 times running with a few bike sessions in it. Are you doing Goofy? If not, I would also not do back to back LRs...there is just no need for it and it is hard on the body....This is just IMO though.

Howard - I am asking the same question as Cecilia. Why do you start that fast? That may be the reason you are loosing steam during your runs....:confused3

Dave - WTG on your WO!:cool1:

I ran 3 yesterday and about 3 today...not sure on the exact mileage. Just kinda running to get the steps in with DDs home...They have a track aroung some soccer fields with a playground so I took DDs there today. I will have to do my LRs (Long runs and Long Rides) on the days DH is home or going into work later....
OOHHH, the Chicken Nuggets are done...must feed my "starving" children!

Megan - Welcome to the Team. I am on the MFM Run/Walk Marathon Training plan (say that 10 times fast). I chose it because, well we had the book. At first I thought the time thing was like "Hey, what about miles and whatnot"...but the time thing works pretty well for me. I have a Timex Ironman watch that I can use the interval timer to beep me for my run/walk times. Downside is not being able to listen to music, but I could always look at my watch frequently....but for now getting my pace down, keeping my posture right, and listening to my breathing and footsteps is working well for me.

Thank you! I'm starting this week on MFM run half marathon(can't we come up with shorter names for these?) and figure the only thing I have signed up for is the ToT race so I'll give this a try and if it's not working out for me I can switch over to a plan that's more miles based. The whole idea of training based on time is new to me but I figure if it works for so many I"ll give it a chance. My dbf finally convinced me to get the Nike kit for my ipod and so tomorrow I will test that out for the first time. I love running to music so this seemed like a good way to get both things I wanted. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

All this talk about tattoos gives me the urge to get one but I'm not sure I could ever pick one and go with it. I always wanted a hockey related one because that was or is my life for most months of the year but if I decide to do a full marathon at some point getting one as a reward for that would be neat.

Megan

Wed=Speed work for me. I hate it--but it certainly helps. I did a 5 min warm-up at 10:00, then 4X800s at 7:30 with slow jog/walking intervals in between. I honestly felt like vomiting after the last 800, but now feeling much better!

Also got our room squared away for ToT. Can't believe that the only studio accomodations for DVC available that weekend are at SSR--I tried everywhere else. Oh well, no biggie--we love it there--just wanted to be a little closer to MGM.

Christa--had to laugh about your "starving" kiddos! As we were leaving the community center about an hour ago, Emma tells me she's STARVING, in her most drama queen-like voice. Poor child, I never feed her!;)

Carrie--I voted over on the other thread!

Dana--I usually run 5 times a week (3 shorter runs, 1 speed workout, and 1 LR), do one xtraining session, and at least one day of weight training. Yeah, I do live in the gym most mornings. Good luck with increasing the mileage!

Okay, DD wants to do a "project" now--My non-creative self now has to come up with something to do. Will "chat" later!

Megan - MfM R Half, that's about as short as I can get ya'. ;) Hockey is your life? Please share. :D We have at least 2 other rec league hockey players here IIRC. Yours sounded pretty intense, though. COlor me jealous. I only played a bit in college rec league.

Stephanie - I waitlisted fro BWVm,, but wih F&G, I figure there's no way. The walking distance to Ghiardelli's is nice, though. :D BTW, do you egt teh Family Fun Weekender magazine e-mails? Weekly e-mails iwth cute crafts and some other stuff. Might want ot give it a try.

Carrie and Stephanie--Stephen and I are at SSR for the ToT as well. Party at our studio?? ;)

Dana: I think if you were training just to finish a marathon that plan might be fine, but since you already know you can finish, I'm imagining you'd like to finish faster or stronger. I've been seeing lots of training plans lately where they stress the quality of the miles you run vs. the quantity. There was an article this month in RW about the FIRST plan and in March there was another plan that I mentioned in my post to Craig yesterday called Trick yourself Fit. These plans are designed to work on both pace and distance. Ultimately you need to find a plan that makes sense to you, and if doing the extra miles will help you to feel more confident then maybe that's the way for you to go. Good luck.

Cindy

Hi team!

Just wanted to stop by and report some training. I have a half marathon coming up on June 2nd and got in a 13 miler a few weeks ago and then a 10miler on Monday. It was so hot! I finished the run at 11:45 a.m. and it was 82 degrees and the sun was beating down on me. Not looking forward to training through the summer. I ran a 10K tempo run on the treadmill today in 57:22, that is a 9:17 pace. (Not quite the 9 minute miles some, Dave, Craig and Steve are bringing in, but I am getting there!)

DH is back in China for two weeks. He arrives home a few days before the half marathon, I hope he is able to run it too!

Stephanie, awesome job on your speed work today. How long are your recovery intervals?

Megan, good luck with starting the plan. It is great to have something to follow!:thumbsup2

Dana, wow, you did great in the WDW Marathon with the training you put in! Imagine what you will be able to do when you follow that plan!:cheer2:

Krista and Steve, welcome back! We missed you.

Dave, congratulate the princesses for me! I am sure that is an experience they will treasure!princess: princess:

Howard, good to hear from you. Before long you will be cranking out those 10-14 milers!:dance3:

Carrie, hope work is going better for you!

Sara, how was your Alaska cruise?

Craig, sorry to hear about your difficulties last week! I refrained from telling my mother-in-law stories. Let's just say I am glad there is 2000 miles between us.

Colleen

Sara - I've been wanting to know about the cruise too! Details! Details! :teeth:

Party in Krista & Steve's room!

Make me stop.... I keep searching out races to run. I am addicted. I need help! It's like I have to find a race to fill in any open weekend I have. UGHHHHH... DH says No, by the way!

Krista - I was not planning on the ToT... but I really want to. Maybe I can camp out on your patio!!!!

Colleen - OK, so at WDW you wanted to run with slow old me... look at the speed you have. I am like running with dead weight! :rotfl2:

Carrie-The brief version(although not that brief) of my life with hockey is that I didn't play growing up but rather had to live through my brother who started playing when he was four. I grew up in the rinks and around hockey families. I worked in a rink for a few years. (I played soccer most my life I should mention and was very aggressive, that's why my dad kept me out of hockey, he was nervous boys wouldn't react well to that.) Junior year of hs I quit high school soccer(still played rec. league) to start a town hockey program for girls. Senior year I started a club high school girls hockey team that got varsity approval the day of my senior prom. (Needless to say I never played on the team but that season I played on three teams as it was so no loss I guess, expect I never lettered in hockey. :( ) I played on my schools team in college and after I left school I went back and became a coach for my town's program. I also have season tickets to a local men's college team so I spend most of Sept-June following some level of hockey. My dad always has said he regrets not putting me in hockey sooner. (His worries about me keeping up with boys was put to rest when I took up going to my brother's practices with him to help me get better. I took my hits but I kept up.) And that's the very semi-brief version of my hockey life.

Colleen-Thanks! I think that having a plan to follow will help me get much more focused on what I have to do.

Howard - Do you purposely go out fast for your first mile? A little speed work before settling down into a rhythm? Your times look good, especially your 5k times but I am wondering if your over all time could improve if you paced yourself on the first mile. Not that I have any clue. Good Luck with the weight loss - stress adds pounds faster than anything!

To answer several questions (you must think I'm nuts :rotfl: ) about my fast start times. It is not really intentional, however, I do it to warm up, get the heart pumping and stretch a bit.

I like to run at the local state park (Bellevue) which has a old harness racing (cinder) track which is a mile and an eighth long. It is flat and "fast." I usually run a lap there and then head off to the Northern Delaware Greenway (NDG) which is a paved path which runs approximately 3 miles to another county owned park (Rockwood Park & Mansion) and then I loop back, finishing with more laps on the old harness racing track. The NDG is a rolling path (black top) cut through woods which curves, dips, and climbs to match the terrain. It is a beautiful running path with a canopy of trees most of the way. (My Garmin is not happy about that!) It is a challenge to run (just ask Cam). That is why my times get much slower as I get into the miles 3, 4, 5 and 6. It is not that I am worn out from the fast lap at the beginning.

So, although I do not intentionally go there to run a first mile in blistering speed, it just happens that way. As I get into shape and start knocking out the 10 to 14 milers (as Colleen says), my pace will improve.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! You are stuck with me for a while. :rolleyes1 :thumbsup2

:grouphug:

Well, I did two runs this week and neither went very well. I am just not feeling the whole running thing this week. I think it has to do with being really busy this week. I had to run field day at my school yesterday and that totally drained me!!!

At any rate, I did 3 miles on Monday, finished with a 10:13 pace and then did 4 miles today with an 11:45 pace. I started out great both days but just died and had to walk to finish. I am supposed to do a 5 mile race this weekend, I think I just really need to push myself to get out there and do it! Hopefully, that willl make me feel better!!
