Wk of May 20--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi everybody!! We're back! :sad1: Walt Disney World was great, but Stephen and I both agreed that the marathon has ruined WDW for us. When we walk around the parks or drive around property, all we could think of was the marathon course and how we felt at that particular mile. :rotfl: :rotfl: I got a couple of runs in during the week, but that was it, Stephen was much more faithful and got all of his runs in, including an 8 miler. Oh, and I gained 5lbs. :sad2: I guess it's back to rabbit food for me. ;)

Okay, I'm off to catch up with the thread from last week and this week. Be back later!!!

HELLO HELLO !!!

I have missed you guys, I tried to keep up reading the thread last week, but settling into full time work and balancing a family is way harder than I thought. Oh yeah, and getting ready to move. Anyway I will not even attempt to catch up with last week's thread I will start on this weeks. I would like to say first, THANK YOU to everyone for the well wishes on our back problems. I am sad to report it is not any better, but it is not getting any worse and I managed to run 3 times last week, with some good paces.
The best was Friday evening did 5.5 miles in 45 minutes. The first mile was a 9 min pace so the other 4.5 were 8 min.  Happy with that considering the pain. OK now to catch up this week.

Mel I'm glad to hear your speedy runs are coming back!!!:cheer2:

Renee Good job on the 6 miles and brag all you want about DS :woohoo: !!

Stephanie That stinks about the stomach fit, but awesome run before the problem. (And I agree about the "some things are too much information" - may I just say ewww!!)

Cam I'm glad that Howard can train for CDC with you and have fun that meeting with kitchen designer!! :cool1:

Craig Conratulations on your daughter's graduation and her stopping to hug you on stage - oh yeah gave me chills. Regarding the mother situation, I am very sorry for you and you have no idea how much I can relate. One of my sisters did not even come to my graduation party because of all the turmoil that my mother has caused in our family lately. I tried to ask her to set herself aside for one day and let me enjoy my day, but my sister and her family still did not come, just to avoid a scene (because we had a HUGE one on Easter). To top it all off we are living in her house right now (moving out in 3 weeks!!!! so I have to just deal until we move). I am very sorry that you have to make such a difficult decision. :headache:

Laurie Awesome job on the run and I'm glad I'm not the only one who could not keep up this week.

OH gotta go back to work right now. I WILL finish the catch up at lunch

angie

I'm baaaaaaaaaaack... more later, after driving back from Orlando to Navarre from 1am-8am this morning I have to go straight to work...:coffee:

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I just wanted to let everyone know that I posted the race report from the 5K with my princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, on the race report thread. It's long with pictures. I'll catch up with everyone later today.

Hey everyone. Today I am home on a rest day. Actually, it's my birthday day off from last week. I am in recovery from my 1/2 marathon and rotten cold which is in my chest now.

I just posted my race report and pics on the Report Thread. Hopefully I will be back later. I have lots of laundry and cleaning to do on my day off... FUN FUN!

I thought I'd pop in and say hi because I keep hearing what a great thread this is. I'll share my story about my run that wasn't today. I had a long day yesterday as I had to work graduation for the university I work at and was on my feet allllll day. But I woke up to do my first official day of running using the Marathoning for Mortals training schedule. Well all my sports bras but one were in the wash but my mom and I couldn't find where she'd put that one. (And I wasn't wearing a wet bra.) Also my brand new shorts were MIA. My search took so long that I had to skip my run and get ready for work. Well no sooner am I ready then my mom finds my new shorts in with the dirty laundry. (I don't know why.) And then I go to grab my sandals that I lent my sister and find my sports bra hanging out of one of her shirts. She's two sizes smaller then me so I'm not sure why she wanted it, maybe she likes that it's pink? So I guess this is the running gods way of telling me to run tonight instead of this morning.

But now I'm wondering if I should use the Marathoning for Mortals training schedule or the runnersworld.com smart coach program I just found. Anyone have any suggestions?

Megan

Good Morning!

I ran for 50 minutes this morning, and I got to 4 miles, which is new for me. I love it when I can run before work, I feel like I've already had a success before I get going. I think I'm calmer for the commute, too...

Megan -- I am a fairly new runner, and a big fan of the Penguin programs. Someone with more experience will have better advice, but as a newby who really needed a helping hand, I have found the Bingham books to be awesome.

Jen -- I hope you feel better soon!

Dave -- I have to check out your report!

Matt-- Get some rest later, that was quite a drive!

Angie-- Just hang it there and it will all eventually come together. You have alot on your plate right now!

Krista-- Just keep telling yourself how yummy those veggies are. Let me know if it works!;)

Kristi -- I checked the website and it does seem to be a bit on the scary side for expenses. Now I'm afraid the new hot thing will be to have your birthday party there. Maybe no one will tell ds...

Jackie -- The universe was speaking to you. I'm glad dd wasn't out and about when it happened.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Maria

I got in 2 miles yesterday on the TM, but today, bright as I am, wanted to run outside. I checked to see if the wind was blowing (windy CO!) but it didn't seem to be, so I didn't bring my earmuffs (who would think you'd need earmuffs in 50 degrees in May?). Well, the 1.5 miles out were fine, but back, it got windy. Then my ears started hurting, even though I had headphones in that blocked some of the wind (I can't take any wind on my ears). Wow, what a struggle that last mile was! But of course, I made it back, what else could I do but keep going.

But, I learned a lesson- always take your earmuffs, even if you think you don't need them!

I love reading all the race reports, can't wait to read yours Matt. I had a dream this morning right before I woke up that I was at WDW and I was asking someone "Did the Ironman already come through here?" Where that came from I don't know. I guess I'd like to be a spectator at an Ironman?!?

Megan- sorry about the run that never was. Somedays are just like that! You'll get it in tonight!

Happy Monday morning! Can't believe how much there is to catch up on ...

Stephanie - LOL on the Viagra call! I don't even want to know.
Kristi - I certainly hope a water park counts as XT; we're doing an amusement park this weekend and I'm going to count it!
CAM - Great TM workout! I think I'd go nuts being on one for an hour.
Monte - Happy travels to VA
Craig - Sorry about the big scene with mom. It's really unbelievable how many crazy mom stories are out there. I think I'm going to save them and read them before I go visit my kids when they're adults!
Laurie - Great pace for 5 miles!!
Bill - What fun cakes! I'd hate to have to cut them.
Maria - 2 posts and it's only Monday!
Christa - Sounds like a good, fun bike ride! Nice to have a training partner.
Jackie - I'm wondering if your DD and my DD were at the same Relay for Life Friday night???
Krista - Welcome back! Can't wait to hear about the trip!
Angie - I'm so impressed that you're keeping up your running even with back problems.
Dave - I'll say it again on this post -- great race report! Congrats to all!
Jen -Off day? I count cleaning the house as XT!
Megan - What program in M for M are you using? I'm doing the Half Marathon Run right now and will basically use the Marathon Run after that. However, I'm increasing the mileages on the Marathon Run program b/c I want to run farther than 20 miles before I attempt a marathon. (My long run will be 24.)
Stacey - I'm with you on the ears! Mine are very sensistive to wind.

DS made it to the championship game in the soccer tournament and then lost. There were lots of tears, but then he and 3 other teammates went swimming and got over it. He has finished in the last 6 tournaments (soccer and baseball) that he's been in and he really, really wants to win! I'm very proud of him for the way he played - they never gave up and left it all on the field.

Finally, my workout: I did a 60 minute run today. For some perverse reason I decided that my run Saturday was so bad that I should do some hills. (??? Does this mean I'm going "goofy" in the head?) So I did and it was killer, but it still felt better than I felt on Saturday. I do enjoy running this time of year as the honeysuckle is blooming. Smells so good! I'm definitely not used to the heat yet, though. It's gonna be a long summer.

Happy training!
Renee

Greetings Racing Team -

Alright, I'm done goofing off.

This past weekend was three days of gluttony. All birthday related, but still. Combine that with haphazard training since I've been back from the Minnie...and it ain't pretty.

So, this morning I did 45 min @ 4.0 @ 1%. It's getting light out early now so I think tomorrow I will go outside and train.

Christa
- Congratulations on that totally awesome 5K! :thumbsup2

Mike
- Ohh, I'm sorry to hear what happened when you were helping out such a worthy cause. I am reactive hypoglycemic so I think I know how you felt. Hey, four brownies works for me!

Mel - You go girl! You were really trucking! :woohoo: Enjoy your vacation!

Kristi - You won tickets again? Ok I mean they weren't GGD tickets, but still... Cool to go before it was open to the public.

Cam - You are always so busy I can't even keep up! YAY for Howard being done!

Craig - Congratulations to Lesley! :goodvibes And as for your mother..... Grrrrrrr. It would be un-Disney-like for me to say what I really think. :headache: You have my sympathies. Perhaps we can get a group rate and send your mother and my MIL to the moon!

Laurie - Wow! :thumbsup2 You are getting so fast! Way to go!

Bill - Cool cakes! Lynnda has a real talent there! So, ummm...where's my piece? :confused3

Krista & Steve & Matt
- YAY, I'm glad you guys are back. I know, you have to get back to real life, but I'll be looking forward to pictures and race reports. :rolleyes1

Jen - Ohh, I hope you are feeling better. I'm off to read your race report now. :yay:

Have we heard from Sunny? :confused3

OK more catching up:

Bill Those cakes are awesome. And YEAHH  Timmy going so long. I hope it happens more often at better times!!

Kristi My DS 11 will be so jealous, Red Sox are his FAV!!! And I hope you get some sleep soon!!:goodvibes

Krista Glad you got some runs in and I'm sorry you have to go back to rabbit food - I HATE RABBIT FOOD.

Ok gotta go again. MOre later

angie

Maria-I think the book has some great information and I'm so glad I got it. But comparing the training plans in the book vs the ones on runnersworld I just think the runnersworld ones would be easier for me to follow in terms of how they map it out. (One is measured in time, runnersworld is measured in miles. Maybe I just need to buy a watch!)

Renee-As I said my first run of the program is today so I'm going to start the Half Marathon Run. I'm not confident enough yet in my knowledge of running to start fiddling with distances or times that's why I'm looking for a program I can just follow till maybe I figure things out for myself. Oh and I agree, I enjoy running this time of year but I'm a fan of the lilacs.

Hey guys! Long time no talk. You know, it was great being in WDW for an entire week without a laptop so that I wasn't tempted to check my work e-mail, but it stunk because we couldn't keep up with you guys, either. Rest assured, we were definitely thinking of you all. I'm going to try to catch up with last week's thread to make sure I didn't miss any big news, but I haven't even had a chance to open it yet. You know how that first day back to work after a vacation goes..... :sad2:

Krista's right, the marathon has ruined WDW for us. We talked about the course around 600 times as we drove all over property. You know, it's a good thing that every January isn't as warm as this past one, because driving around and seeing the course again brought back some vivid memories of just how miserably hot it was on that weekend 4 months ago. Let's hope for 30 degrees with snow flurries next year. :thumbsup2

Great job to everyone who raced this weekend! I did get a chance to skim through that thread, and it looks like everyone did really well.

Ok, gotta go do some real work, but I just had to pop in to say Hi. Hope everyone had a great weekend. Talk to you all later!

Steve

Megan - Welcome!!! Many (most?) of us use MfM. Th ewhole time vs. miles things can be ablessing or a curse, depending on ho wyou feel that day (If you're dead, you know the max time you'll be out. If you're feeling great, running nfaster won't get you done sooner.) I must say that it's really cool when so many poeple are following MfM and are doing teh same distances at the same time.

Steve & Krista - Welcome back!! We missed you!

Kevin - Good luck this week!

Bill - Cool Cakes! COngrats on teh 8-hour PR! ;)

Judy - Happy Belated b-day!!!

Craig & Martha - :grouphug: :grouphug: Congrats to Lesley!!!

Mel - Have a great trip & COngrats on being a speed demon!!!

Again, this is not tohe day fo rme to catch up with everyone. :(

CAm - You? from He**??? No way!!!!!!

Well, I walked a total of 7 miles in my new inserts and heel lift Friday night adn Saturday morning. Many new muscles hurt and my left knee has informed me that it was quit content being a slacker and not taking up it's share of the road. Did some gardening Saturday, but I've done more.

WOke up yesterday and could barely walk. My back, the area where teh DO said people have trouble with leg lenght issues, was killing me. I iced all day adn did not accomplish much. Poor dh worked his tail off and would not let me do anything. It's alittel better today. I have no idea if it's the gardening, teh lift or the orthotics or all three. On teh bright side, the nerve pain has been gone since I woke up Saturday. Now, I've just got to figure the rest out. This is getting a little frustrating.

Popping in. This is my girls' last week of school and then Saturday we head off to our cruise and the Poly so I doubt I'll be on much for a few weeks. I'm very busy! (Hey, somebody wanna come pack fro me?!?)

Well, I did the run I was dreading yesterday and it went well! :woohoo:
The longest I've run is R5/W1 and yesterday my program increased to R10/W1. I was so worried, but I ended up feeling good the whole time. I'm so happy!

I had to R10/W1 for 55 minutes. I ended up going 4.5 miles with an average pace of 12:18. Not my fastest pace, but this is the most I've ever run!

Unfortunately, I had to run in my neighborhood. DH was gonna go run with me on this trail we like, but he hurt his knee! I'm very worried cause running has really helped him with his health, personality, etc. He is gonna give it a rest for a few days and see how it feels. I really hope he didn't do something to it.

Well, I hope everyone is doing well and I'll try to pop in again before we leave. I'm hoping I'll stick with my program while on vacation!

Hi Everyone-

I ran a little 10K this weekend. Its was a Peachtree Qualifier.

For those of you that don't know, the Peachtree Road Race is the world's largest 10K with over 50,000 runners/walkers. The entry form is printed in the Atlanta Journal the 3rd Saturday in March and the first 40,000 entrants are given numbers. Runners who have an official 10K result under 55 minutes are "qualifiers" and are given a timing chip. They also start right after the elite runners -shortly after 7am. Since the race is in Georgia on July 4th, start time is critical. The last group doesn't start until after 9am and race numbers are a lottery for all non qualifiers.

Anyway, I had a GREAT race and I finished in 54:47.

I am still walking on air 3 days later!

Dave - I loved your race report! I hope your daughters realize just how incredible it is to finish a 5K at their ages - I was 35 before I ran my first.

Matt - I can't wait to read your report

Jen - Congratulations on a great race.

Goofyguy - Way to go for doing the relay. I am glad someone had brownies and Pizza for you to eat. Be careful for a few days after one of those episodes. It always takes me a couple of days to fully recover from a crash.

Well, I am off - all 3 kids are in the championship games of their softball and baseball tournaments tonight! Yikes! Thank goodness for wonderful neighbors and friends who are going to the girls games while I take DS7 to his game. This single mom stuff is tough!

Cecilia

Megan - WELCOME! IMO...the time thing would mess me up. I would be afraid that I was not getting the mileage in. I totally stick to mileage...but that is me..most people at first, do not know how long it will take them to go a certain mileage so planning to run 90 min could mean you are doing 10 miles or 7 miles...that is a big diff. But thats just me.:confused3

Matt - I tracked you and Lynne! You both did great! :cool1:

Cecilia - WTG on the qualifying time!:cool1: I have never run a 10k:lmao: ! I find that funny..done 5k, 8k, 1/2 marathon, and marathon. But never an official 10k.

Shan - I don't know if I told you, but my Skirt worked great in my 5k this weekend!:cool1:

Krista & Steve - Glad you are back! But I know you WISH you were still at WDW! Krista...5lbs...you are so small that would not even matter! It is water weight!;)

Judy - AHHH...gluttony...one of the 7 deadly sins!:goodvibes

Haven't WO yet today. Today was DD's last day of school so my training will have to be very flexable.
My 5k pic and report is now on tricharlotte.com  I still cannot believe that I placed in my age group!:cool1:

Perfect Christa! :yay:
Mine came Saturday but I haven't run in it yet. I think I'm between sizes. I must have tried on the small and medium five times each trying to decide. DH said they both looked the same. I ended up sending the small back to exchange for another color in a medium. I think the medium showed less of my tummy.

Cecilia, I'm also in the Atlanta area. Was this the Chattahoochee race? DH and I wanted to do the Peachtree, but we'll be out of town. Maybe next year!

I really need to be packing. :rolleyes1

Good evening everyone!

DH, Calcio, said it all. I cannot believe MIL blamed me for everything from the weather to there being too many people in the car! I cannot believe she would be so selfish as to throw a tantrum on Lesley's day! I have to stop talking about it before my blood pressure goes too high.

We are off to Italy for Lesley's graduation trip. Two weeks in Italy. 2. Dinner overlooking the Adriadic. Gondola ride. All that sculpture, history and sunshine! Ah, I am calm, I am calm.

To everyone on these boards--thank you for all your support. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll do so. Good luck to everyone in races, training or just plain having fun.

Hi Everyone,

Jackie: Congrats on your 10 min mile. That's great!! :woohoo:

Kristi: Glad you like your new DVD. Did I read this right, Zach gets to go to the game tonight? I'm so jealous. Go Sox!!

Cam: Good news for Howard. Good job on working out after being at work all day. :cool1:

Craig: So sorry about the situation w/ your Mom. It is sad if terminating the relationship is the only solution. pixiedust: that you'll find another way. Have a great trip.

Laurie: Hope the new shoes work out.

Bill: Great cakes. Kudos to Lynnda. Sorry your schedule is so packed. I hope you found time to relax.

Angie: Great job on your pace. Continued pixiedust: for your back problems.

Megan: Tough start to your training. Hope it gets better.

Carrie: Sorry that you're in so much pain. Hope it's just a matter of getting used to the inserts.

Shan: Congrats on doing R10/W1. Major milestone!!

Cecelia: Great job on your 10K. :yay:

I did my LR today. 8.12 mi at 10:16 pace. No more strength training to report. :sad1:

Have a great night everyone.

Cindy
